- These recordings have been remastered from tapes belonging to Ernie Brooks and it is a shame they were not released before. This is pure rock in progress and the unique chance to catch the young and angry Jonathan with his perfect "highway" band, the Modern Lovers.
Had the world been submitted to those songs when they actually were performed, the story of rock would certainly have taken a different path. None of any marketing undercoverstrategy is present here, this was done before punk era and it is pure fun and passion. The version of "I'm straight" which is here is my all time favourite, it is raunchy and Jonathan is playing it like a genuine episode of his life. "Wake up sleepy head" with the intro with John Felice, still 16 and a Real Kid to be, is one of those great lost Jonathan anthems. These recordings are essential, and are the perfect match to "Precise Modern Lovers", but for die hard fans it is different and better. "Foggy notion" is the obvious tribute to the Velvets which Jonathan still worships nowadays. In many other songs, the Modern lovers sound like the true followers of the NYC band.
- This cd is worth it just for "96 Tears" & "Wake Up Sleepyheads", which you can only find here. Throw in the only live versions of "Old World" & "Modern World" out there, & an "I'm Straight" that's different from the one on "Precise M. L.s Order", & it's essential. All in all "Precise" is better for rarities, but until they come up with a "Complete Live Lovers", you must have both. The most interesting songs to me are the cover songs "96 Tears" & "Foggy Notion", which sound like they could've been written by Jonathan & point out the influence that 60's garage rock & the Velvet Underground had on them. What was completely new was Jonathan's lyrics & delivery, which were very influential (the guy from the Violent Femmes is the only one that really came close).

- The Velvet Crush rock a bit harder and faster on this live album. Is it because power pop giant Tommy Keene is sitting in on guitar ? Don't know. This is a fun album that catches a great power pop band playing smoking versions of some of their best songs. Great live sound production too -- no pro-tool enhancement, or computer corrected vocals. Buy this album. Pick up all of Tommy Keene's albums too (his live album is a great start).

- I got this without having Damned Damned Damned but I got it and firgured ehh its only 3 dollars more and 2 more discs I might as well get it! Great decision on my part, the live material is great and I love the album. Deffinately buy this if you're even a minor fan of The Damned, you wont be dissapointed at all!
- If you've been a fan of The Damned for any substantial period of time, you most likely own a copy of Damned Damned Damned. My copy is well worn on vinyl and I have subsequently replaced it with other copies. I say other copies because this album in it's original form is a punk rock masterpiece. What more could be done to get me to run out and buy another version? Well, let's just say the impossible is possible. The 30th Anniversary Edition of Damned Damned Damned is the well worth tracking down. In the States, it's a hard-to-find import and is definitely worth the search. The original release is contained on the first CD with a generous amount of bonus material on the following two discs, most of previously unreleased except for the pesky bootlegs that have appeared over the years.
The Damned are one of the greatest punk bands to ever emerge from the UK and while some site The Clash as the one punk band that mattered, I'd beg to differ. Both bands had a rocky history of sorts, but The Damned came through it with their heads held high and managed to write one of the best comeback albums of any band's career (Grave Disorder-check it out!). Fans of their punk years will eat this up as will fans of their later more gothic era.
Up the punks, this is one album each and every punk rocker should own, it's genius!
- It's difficult to believe that 30 years later, The Damned's music is still so relevant and so unmistakably powerful! My favorite track has to be New Rose - the first punk rock single ever released (on October 22, 1976). Just hearing the first few seconds of New Rose drums gives me an adrenaline rush like nothing else! You can't go wrong with The Damned... they may have stumbled onto genius, but it's theirs for the keeping!
- This CD contains some of the greatest songs ever by the Damned, my favorite forefathers of punk. If you only buy one from them, this should be it. Although I know you'll want more.....

- It was released on two cassetes, I only have one
- While this is an EXCELLENT album, and the MOVIE is super rare, I don't believe the record to be worth so much! I just recently bought my copy at Wax N Facts in Atlanta for less than ten dollars, and I've been seeing it on Ebay for five bucks. $90 is just a little much... however, if you don't agree and want to buy it for $50 bucks, just contact me.
- The best ever panorama of the alternative (then) music scene in the early 80's. The Police in top (then) form. Devo when Devo WAS Devo. The Cramps in a completely obscene performance. Lost gems like Au Pairs, Athletic Spizz, Alley Cats and others lost in the battle to limelight. Can't recommend it enough. I do have the double-vinyl (not for sale) AND the VHS but we really need the CD (extra, previously unreleased tracks???) and DVD.
- Please Please Please, this cd is a classic for new wave and punk lovers. Re-issued please
- URGH! a Music War was first a film and double LP soundtrack. It was released back in 1982, when I was first getting my feet wet in British and American post-punk music. The film itself is great, showcasing a variety of acts all under the loose umbrella of "New Wave" from the power-pop of the Police, the Go-Go's, and XTC, to the electro musings of Gary Numan, and the totally uncatagorizable, sadly missed and WAY ahead of his time Klaus Nomi. Each group was shown playing one song each, and the film hops all over the globe, from New York, Santa Monica, to Paris and London. Unfortunately, there are several groups in the film not on the original double LP ( which I still have ) such as Invisible Sex and Spodgness Abounds ( I think I spelled that correctly, my memory fails me ) and more than that, there are several artists on the original double Lp that were left off the CD release, such as Toyah Wilcox. I suppose this was done in order to fit all they could on one compact disc, but it is a disservice to both the artists and the fans of the original movie. Why can this movie not be re-released on DVD?? Is there not an audience for it? I have seen several used copies of the VHS cassette on E-bay and the like, going for upwards of $100.The original film and double LP format I would give 5 stars. It is an invaluable document of early eighties alternative rock. However, I dock the CD release a few points for leaving out so many great songs and artists. Until this is re-released on DVD, I will hold on to my LP, thank you very much, and play it, scratches and all, and re-live those early, crazy days of my youth.
