  1. This is a live cd featuring: 1.Real Wild Child, 2.Blah Blah Blah, 3.Some Weird Sin, 4.China Girl, 5.Lust For Life, 6.Nightclubbing, 7.Five Foot One, 8.Shades, 9.No Fun, 10.I Wanna Be Your Dog. That set list makes me think it is a concert from the Ritz in New york in 1986, except for "No Fun", which sounds like it is from the Channel in Boston in 1988. If you have "Live Ritz N.Y.C." & "Live In NYC" & any of the many versions of the Boston concert, you don't need this. Of course, it's really cheap, so it's not a big deal if you're collecting everything, like I am. The 3 stars is cause it's not from a great time in Iggy's career, & I get tired of all the repackaging.

4 comments about Never Mind The Bollocks.

  1. Not much needs to be said about NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, but the second disc is a necessary purchase even if you bought the SEX PISTOLS BOX, which is full of demos (but not all of them). There was not enough time to fit everything on that, so some tracks were cut from it. This 2CD set was issued first. The following track list was found after researching on the web. This info is not on the set (actually almost no info is on the set).

    1. Seventeen *
    2. Satellite *
    3. No Feelings *
    4. I Wanna Be Me *
    5. Submission
Dave Goodman Session, Riverside / Denmark St, July 1976

    6. Anarchy in the UK
Dave Goodman Session, Wessex Studios, October `76

    7. GSTQ
    8. Problems *
    9. Pretty Vacant *
    10. Liar *
    11. EMI *
    12. New York
Dave Goodman Session, Gooseberry Studios, January 1977

    13. Problems
    14. No Feelings
    15. Pretty Vacant
Chris Speeding Session, Majestic studios May 1976

    16. Submission *
    17. No Feelings
    18. EMI
    19. Satellite
    20. Seventeen
Chris Thomas NMTB session, Wessex, Summer 1977

    21. Anarchy in the UK
Dave Goodman Session, Riverside / Denmark St, July 1976

    *Not on SEX PISTOLS BOX

One thing nice about this edition is that it has the original import color combo, yellow and pink, instead of the later issue released in the US, green and pink. The song list of the CD corresponds to the song titles of the original SPUNK bootleg LP.

  2. This British version of Bollocks has a much clearer mix than the US version! That in itself is worth it since it's one of the greatest albums of all times. SPUNK is '77 demos and the Chris Spedding demos sounding their best. OK, I bought it for about 5 bucks less - if you don't want to pay full price, it's well worth searching for at a lower price; or check back here for a possible future discount.

  3. I agree with the previous reviewer, but have to add a little historical background so you understand where the appeal possibly comes from. Because who doesn't already own "Bollocks?"

Prior to (and even after) the release of their one and only proper album, "Spunk" was one of the most highly sought after bootlegs on the market; most of the tunes were performed either live, or else underproduced, with Chris Spedding doing some of the guitar tracks (while the Pistols were trying to find a label that would take them).

After the fact, "Spunk" has some interesting tid-bits, but nothing you couldn't already find on a plethora of subsequent boots ("Flogging A Dead Horse", "Some Product", "The Swindle Continues", etc.).

A decent value, but not the essential work some would have you believe.

  4. The first CD is "Bollocks" in all it's snotty glory, still raging like a tornado that's just demolished a hardware store.

The second CD are a series of demos for the first album, including three recorded (as I understand it ) with Chris Spedding on guitar. Nice to have and all, but hardly essential.

    For completists only.

5 comments about Sister Midnight.

  1. This is a very cool and unusual CD. Plus the price was good, and the shipping was fast. Good job!

  2. This was Iggy's comeback. The Stooges were done with, and it was time for him to try to revive his name. This is Iggy at his best, LIVE!

  3. This release is for diehard fans only. Please trust me, or just play the sound samples and hear for yourself. This is bootleg quality. Hot Wacks would rate this good to very good soundboard at best. A great tracklist & decent performance from Iggy are not enough to recommend this. New Iggy fans would be best served by purchasing the "Live At The Avenue B" dvd for arguably one of the best live Iggy documents available. Long time fans may want this to complete their collection; even though you might only play it once or twice.

  4. Sister Midnight is one of the best live albums I've ever heard. I'm suprised it isnt more popular in the Iggy Pop catalogue. Iggy's voice is in great form, raw and raspy yet also soothing and seductive and the guitars are fuzzed out and reverberating all throughout. This performance of "Gimme Danger" I consider to be far superior to the Raw Power version, it just is bursting with a fierce energy and exhuberance that makes the original seem tame by comparison. Iggy's reputation has frequently been battered with drug and sex accusations but this live recording seems plagued by neither, the sound is great and his performance is simply raw and powerful. A must have if your an Iggy fan.

  5. I am a huge collector of iggy's music having this under a different title I took my chances and bought it again and was amazed at the sound quality. As far as live I would recommend this along with Hippodrome (Paris 77).

  1. I recently got this cd for my birthday. To be honest, I really only knew a few songs from the Fixx (One Thing Leads To Another, Red Skies, Are We Ourselves). mostly their earlier material, my junior high years) I prefer "live" albums over any studio or greatest hits packages so I decided to get this live album by the Fixx.WOW, was I impressed!!!! It opened up a whole new list of songs by the Fixx to me. Their music is very well written and put together and sounds even better when played live. "Subterranean", "I'm Life", "The Fool" and "Secret Separation" are just a few of the highlights to this recording. The music flows good together, and makes for a great 72 minutes of listening!!!The Fixx rock!!! Excellent musicianship!!! This is a very good cd and one that I would definitely recommend to anyone.

2 comments about Plays Venus in Furs and Other Velvet Underground Songs.

  1. Pop Kulcher Review: Just as every lame high school cover band has to get its start by making a stab at "Louie Louie" or "Twist & Shout," every alternative band (at least since the rise of R.E.M.) has to have an obligatory Velvet Underground cover in their repertoire. In late 1997, Dutch alterna-grungesters Bettie Serveert took it a step further, going on a brief tour playing nothing but Velvet Underground songs. This disc is a nifty little souvenir from that tour, offering 10 VU tunes from a November 1997 gig in Amsterdam. Stretching beyond a single song works well, giving the band a shot to move beyond the obvious choices ("Rock & Roll," "Beginning to See the Light" and "What Goes On") to the noisier, more free-form elements of the VU songbook ("Venus in Furs," "European Son," "Black Angel's Death Song"). The latter tunes fare best, giving the band a chance to stretch its Crazy Horse-like distortion workouts beyond the confines of the band's own, poppier songs. Also nice are a rollicking "I Can't Stand It" and a touching "Stephanie Says." The only downside is the length of the disc; while it clocks in at a respectable 60 minutes, the setlist illustrated in the liner notes shows that 6 songs got cut. But that's a minor gripe; all in all, this is a terrific gesture, giving fans who couldn't quite make it to Holland for the concert a chance to hear the show.

  2. An easy album to sum up: If you like Bettie Serveert, the Dutch alt-rockers with the sweet female vocals backed by a noisy Dinosaur Jr./Neil Young-influenced guitar sound, you'll enjoy this album, just for the novelty of hearing them perform cover songs by a very different (darker, more experimental) kind of band. If you're a Velvet Underground fan, you might enjoy hearing an slightly odd spin on the favorites you've heard a million times.

An essentially friendly, upbeat band with a female lead singer like the Betties is not the obvious choice to cover "Black Angel's Death Song," "Venus In Furs," or "European Son." The band's musical chops are up to it, but Carol van Dijk's unnaturally low vocals are occasionally laughable in her attempt to sound menacing. The later-period Velvets songs like "Beginning to See the Light" and "What Goes On" are a less awkward fit. At times, the tempos and vocal phrasing are slavish imitations; it would have been nice if the group had reworked the arrangements a bit more. Still, one could argue Bettie Serveert does at least as good a job with these songs as the VU did during its brief reunion for a '93 European tour.

Not essential listening, but it's fun, and worth seeking out for the diehards.
