1 comments about Don't Munchen It: Live in Europe 1978.
- I was lucky enough to catch the reformed Pirates in the UK on this series of tours, and they were without a doubt one of the best power trios I have ever seen.
Mick Green is one of the most respected and influential guitarists in the history of Rock, easily on a par with the mighty Keith Richards, and 'live' he was just something else.
While ironically, he had never played on the original recording of Shakin' All Over (it was a session guy filling in for Caddy) he is THE guitarist you associate with the song, and when I saw them in Leeds, England, Mick's 'Shakin' power chords seemed to be an intriguing blend of jazz and metal.
The atmosphere was electric when I saw them, and that comes across in this superb set, in which at every gig, they had the audience eating out of their hands.
These boys are the real deal, and their very existence is a fine tribute to the memory of the awesome Johnny Kidd, who sadly died in a car crash in 1966.
This is as good as it gets, folks.

- MXPX is not a band generally liked by people claiming to be "true punk rock" fans, and to be honest, the band is not really punk rock at all. MXPX is decidedly pop punk, in line with bands like Good Charlotte or Blink-182, but MXPX brings a certain level of reality to their music that is mostly evident on their live album, recorded at the 9:30 Club in Baltimore. Baltimore has a huge punk scene, and yet MXPX, with melody, harmonies and happinessm completely blew everyone away with the release of this album. Here we have a band with true skill and the subsequent recording of a live album without any added "studio magic", like Blink-182's "Mark, Tom and Travis Show", that is also a testement to their ability to play their songs without fault and to make a truly great live show. I can't rate individual songs off the album, as I consider it to be almost one long song, and prefer to view it like I would a show, but all these songs are well handled enough for me to confidently give the album 5 stars. It will not disappoint, wether you're a die-hard fan or have only just heard of MXPX.
- This is the only mxpx cd I have ever heard and its great. I doubt the other stuff they have made could be this good but if it is its definately worth investigating. this cd has several songs that are less than 2 minutes and one that is less than 30 seconds. At first thought you would think that short songs would be hard to like however they are just as good as the longer ones they made. the best short songs in my opinion are lefetime enlightenment, wantad, andrea, and fist vs tact. the better long songs include tomorrows another day, sometimes you have to ask yourself, time brings change, invitation to understanding, middlename, and punk rawk show. the music on this cd seems to be strongly inspired by various emotions and or feelings one might have doing normal stuff on a day to day basis. since they put 23 songs on the cd and it is a live album of stuff they already made it shuould be a good glimpse of what the band is like overall.
- Some people are saying that this is for die hard fans (which I am) but that isn't true. It shows how much energy they have at their shows. So if you are new to MxPx or you are an old fan, this is a great album. Invitation to Understanding is done a lot faster then usual. The KKK Took My Baby Away was done really well as well. But the best part of the CD is Chick Magnet. I love Mike's bass solo and his cool "Ba do da" part near the end rocks. So, in summary, this is great and you should get it as well as "Panic" which is going to be awesome.
- This CD rocks!I love every song except for Downfalll of Western Civilization. Hate to say it, but this song completely sucks. Don't let this mislead you though, every other song ROCKS! If your new to MXPX, first buy Let It Happen, then get this.
Fav. songs on At The Show:
Im OK Your OK
Punk Rawk Show
KKK Took My Baby Away-Ramones Rock!
Cold and all alone
- Of course nothing beats actually seeing them live, but the recording is decent. It doesn't really capture their power though. You see MXPX does their best with their older stuff, and if it were up to me they'd make one that would top Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo or Pokinatcha, but sadly they decided to go and produce boring pop-punk stuff, but this CD will remind you of what they use to be. A definate must buy!!!

5 comments about Swans Are Dead (Live '95-'97).
- Swans are an intimidating prospect for any listener; a constant evolution of confrontational, brooding, enigmatic intensity. This live album is a great introduction for the newcomer, and essential document for the completist. It contains a fine version of their greatest ever song, 'Helpless Child', and definitive versions of many others from the final two studio albums. More importantly, it better outlines their 15 year progression from gutter brutality to sublime magnificence than any other record in their back catalogue. The transformation of 'I Crawled' from the 'Young God' EP provides the most obvious example. A near perfect representation of one of the definitive underground bands.
- Swans were probably the only band in the world who could play the same two chords for 15 minutes and still keep the listeners at the edge of their seat the whole time. A great live testament to this truly amazing band.
- Swans is on my top 10 favorite groups list. And considering I've been listening to, buying and loving music since 1955, that's high praise. Swans Are Dead is one of their greatest sets, and I'm listening to it right now. For those of you who missed it, it's being rereleased in a few days (May 2003).
Among misterwarm's reviewing problems is criticizing art based on one's opinion of the artist. Biographical Fallacy is a big aesthetic booboo, buddy. Furthermore, how can anyone call Michael Gira arrogant while praising CHARLTON HESTON?? Wow!
- Once again the Swans leave us a fine little piece of musical wonderfulness, reworking or completely rewriting the music of some of their older songs and giving us a few more to enjoy. For those of you unfamiliar with the Swans, this may not be the best album to introduce you with, but any Swans is good Swans. For those of you that have seen the Swans live, especially on their final tour, this album is a must have. Though Jarboe yet again makes me think she was the reason for their death, the Gira songs are absolutely breath taking in their raw, aggresive forms. The New version of Bloodpromise is a work of art in my not so humble opinion. Go buy Swans stuff now.
- Though nothing can fully recreate the surreal power of a live swans concert, and those who were fortunate enough to witness such majick would likely be disapointed by any attempt to do so, "Swans Are Dead" is a beautiful album, and well worth any price. The first (white) disc, an archive of the 95-96 tour, features live versions of their newer work, mostly from the last studio album "Soundtracks for the Blind". Though an excellent disc, I could not feel its full effect due to anticipation for the second (black) disc and the much talked about final song "Feel Happiness", Michael Gira's emotional tribute to his "child" whom he devoted fifteen years of his life to. The album's only weak moment, in my opinion, is a stuffy rendition "Blood on Your Hands" in which the listener may believe Jarboe has as cold. Nevertheless, I cannot stress enough how essential the music of swans is. Buy this album and any other you may come across.

- When I first bought this bootleg I thought it was extremely overrated and wasnt that great. Reason being was that it does have about 5-6 mistakes through the show. Its a really loose and relaxed show like another guy mentioned. The more you listen to it the more that is obvious. The guys have fun and put on a pretty tight show, except for those few flubs. No show is perfect. The sound mix is still as clear as a live show can be. A good sound mix. The setlist is also pretty strong. Its not the best Euro show from 2000, but is still a strong performance of a wonderful band having a great time. Thats what counts to me. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a good show from the band. It may take some time to really dig in to its beauty, but its worth it. Im still trying to dig deeper into it. Its really a different show.
- From the unprecedented opener "Nothing as it Seems", you know the Cardfiff show is going to be unlike any other on the tour. Great versions of Binaural's rockers 'Breakerfall' and 'God's Dice' follow. The performance of 'Insignificance' is the highlight of the show: probably the best I've heard, and I've heard quite a few. The rarity 'I Got S***' makes an oddly early appearance, and the same can be said for the next song- 'Alive'. With every bootleg I get that lacks this song, I can tell you I miss hearing it. It may not be Pearl Jam's best, but it's anthemic, it's moving, and it's definitive of the band themselves. The performance here is excellent. 'Pilate' off of Yield is a nice surprise, and 'Once' is a surprising rocker of a set ender. The nine song encore is marred only by another horribly butchered version of 'Immortality', but saved by good versions of 'Black' and 'Smile', as well as the obligatory 'Yellow Ledbetter'.
If you like the setlist on this bootleg, especially the Binaural and Ten songs, I can tell you you won't be disappointed by the performance.
- I'm from Cardiff, and I went to this gig. Thought that it was a really good show and Eddie Vedder made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end as always.
My favourite part of the evening was when the whole place joined in to sing Betterman and it sounds great on the CD.
- A particularly mellow, relaxed night in Cardiff, Wales didn't make for a bad show. In fact, it made for a good, smooth performance. I don't think it's better than another show I have Boston2 and there are probably more that are better, but I haven't heard one that is this easy going with an "evenflow" or with as good of a song list. Some highlights of the show are "Black" which is probably my favorite PJ song as well as "Betterman" and "Leatherman." Overall, a good buy.
- Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. The ninth show of the tour, in mysterious but beautiful Cardiff, Wales, constitutes one of the most solid, no-nonsense performances of the early part of the 2000 World Tour. This show is not incredibly dramatic, ear-catching, or especially powerful in any way. So if you only listen to this bootleg a few times, you may not notice how loose, relaxed, and insistent this performance really is. This requires close listening, but your patience will be rewarded. The rhythm section of Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron are in an especially limber and even bluesy mood, giving the songs an extra bit of swing. The guitar interplay by Stone Gossard and Mike McCready is relaxed and flawless. Eddie Vedder is clearly in a good mood, and while he keeps the stage talk relatively low-key in this gig, he's clearly having fun with the crowd, especially in his story about a tour guide named Jerry. This show has the benefit of a rather unconventional set list, as compared to many of the other bootlegs. "Nothing As It Seems" is the show opener for the only time in the tour, and this is a great idea, because the song can often be a mid-show downer but works very well as the opener. Crushing renditions of the heavy rockers "Gods' Dice," "Red Mosquito," and "I Got Shit" make welcome appearances early in the set, while some more rarities like "Spin the Black Circle" and "Smile" appear in the encore. Pearl Jam had apparently never been to this town before, and may not be there ever again, but the Cardiffians should be talking about this for years to come.

- When I was at a merch. stand, some one asked about "the live one" which is this album, and Casey Royer, actually standing behind the counter, said it was his favorite of any D.I. album, and he was pretty proud of it, and any one he'd ever talked to had said it was the best D.I. album they'd heard. "The recording is great, and it's got all the best songs." Then the guy asked where all the D.I. shirts were. "We sold all the shirts at our last show."
- This has to be the best live album I've ever heard. It was recorded in 1992, and DI doesn't sound like they were past their prime at all(strange, seeing as how the State of Shock album was released just a couple of years later. What a difference a change of lineup makes!) The songs all sound great, Casey Royer's never irritating, and they play all of their best known material. This is DI's last great album, and they went out with a bang!
- When D.I. frontman Casey Royer pounded the surf beat skins for So. Cal bands like the Detours and the legendary Adolescents he had a pretty good thing going. But, when he busted out on his own and started delivering stuff like "O.C. Life" and "Richard Hung Himself" he definietely lept into a league of his own. In fact, D.I. showcases how great the Adolecents really were. On this live disc there's a lot of social commentary and buzz sawing riffs. Royer and his hired hands play with a lot of energy here, although the Rikk Agnew penned songs miss the punk fretboard master's touch. I live no where near So. Cal, but these songs really speak about what America has become. Great stuff.
- D.I. is definitely like one of punks most ultimate bands
- D.I. is the greatest Punk Rock at its best and its live!!! This CD is great for old school punk rockers!

- As great as Fishbone's studio albums are, this is one act that has always thrived and amazed live, where their character can shine in full effect. After all how could a mere stereo audio recording do justice to the full-frontal assault created by the beyond-colorful personalities of the dudes in Fishbone? So here we finally have a CD AND DVD together for one low price. The sound is awesome, just try it w/headphones (or those earbuds you probably use for everything..). AND you get to SEE the band putting it down live. Norwood, the killer bassist always said that they just tried to do what P-Funk said and "take it to the stage" and they do! You MUST check this out...and if you're new to Fishbone then I have mad envy for you. you're in for a great trip...
- Fishbone are legendary...let me just begin by saying that. There were ranked most exciting live act by Dappa Like Zappa; They have influenced countless bands and hip-hop acts, befriended many more bands and such...i mean come on, its undeniable! After dealing with a bunch of garbage from Columbia, and dealing with legal whoas, and lack of promotion, they eventually moved to their own record label. Now this album was done through High Times Magazine and they simply didnt do the band justice! Dont get me wrong, its a great album, but thanks no thanks to High Times...the recording quality lacks and there are type-o's on the back cover...granted, being an indie band, their stuff is bound to be a bit ruff around the edges-and like i said, the album (especially teamed with the DVD) is still great...just not as great as it could've been....ah the whoas of independance. Furthermore, the DVD doesnt do justice to Fishbone's live performance...Fishbone is typically full of energy and motion, and on this DVD they're more layed back...but that is undoubtably do to the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF POT BEING SMOKED BY EVERYONE!!!! BUT...the crowd shots are tight...there are people EVERYWHERE...and a dancing section in the front where some fans are gettin down and there's this person wearing a psychedelic light outfit...its great! AND in all the album/dvd combo is a great bye (but wouldnt be a good purchase for someone new to Fishbone).
- No Fishbone fan can afford to be without this CD/DVD recording of what proved to be one of their last concerts - at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam.
From Angelo Moore's bizarre opening rap, to the sonic blitz of "Sunless Saturday" and the turbo-charged skank of "Cholly", this is pure killer vibes.
How could a band so talented be treated so shabbily by the music industry? Moore's bitter rant, which closes the DVD version, spells out just how used and abused Fishbone were.
Tragic. But at least we have this souvenir of their greatness.
- Fishbone is red hot!!. Fishbone plays a great mix of ol' an new songs to skank and go nuts to!! Over 70 minutes of music. Great quality sound, recommended for music fans with eclectic taste!! If you like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Brains, 247 spyz, Living Colour, Sublime, They Might Be Giants, Weapon of Choice, you are gonna love fishbone!
- Great live cd. Of course fishbone is always great live but the best part of this cd is you get a dvd of the concert as well. It's like getting two for the price of one which is great. I didn't even know it came with a dvd when I ordered it so it was a great suprise to get that one top of the cd. A must have for any fishbone fan.

- Everyone admits that the sound quality is awful on this recording. What they don't tell you is that the guitars sound out of tune and the vocals sound like crap on most songs. If you don't own any Misfits, don't start here. Start with Static Age...a Great Album...
- The Misfits are quite simply the coolest band on earth!!! The Misfits live were what shows should be about, fast, fun, and absolutely full of energy. This live cd is great, the sound quality is not very good, but that is not nearly enough to make this a less-than-amazing album. I wish it could've had some more tracks on it, but they put some of the best Misfits material on here. As well as, some less-known songs like Ghouls Night Out, and Horror Hotel. Highlights of the album are: Astro Zombies, Ghouls Night Out, Night of the Living Dead, All Hell Breaks Loose, We Are 138, and the best of all Horror Business. Overall this album is just incredibly fast and fun. This album is a MUST HAVE for any true Misfits fan.
- I love the Misfits, but this live CD is really not very good. It's not the music of course, and not really the performance either, it's the recording, this is just an awful recording. Now the performance itself isn't exactly top-notch, it's pretty sloppy, but this is punk music after all. But again, this may just go back to the sub par recording. All in all I enjoyed the CD, I just prefer their studio work more.
- Usually, I'm not a fan of live albums. It seems that in most cases, artists either spend too much time trying to mimic their studio creations note for note on stage or tinker with their recorded cuts so much that the result on stage is unrecognizable from the songs that fans came to hear. On this album (which is one of the only "official" live releases of their relatively brief career), the Misfits have created a live album that bounces with energy, and is really an absolute joy to listen to. The live performances stay true to their original studio-recorded counterparts, but are injected with fierce vitality. The playing is sometimes sloppy, but the band seems genuinely thrilled to be on stage. Clearly, this is when the band was still hungry, still had something to prove to a public that was by and large ignoring them.
A few of the tracks on this album actually improve on studio tracks; for example, the live rendition of "Astro Zombies" completely blows away the relatively subdued studio version. The same can be said for "Horror Business" and "20 Eyes".
If you are a Misfits fan, I can't recommend this album enough. A blazing, energetic recording of a young band captured during some of their finest live performances. I often find myself listening to this album more than "Earth A.D." or "Walk Among Us". If you're looking for a summary of their awesome career as a band, check out Collection Vol. 1 and 2 first, but if you already enjoy what their music has to offer, listen to this live album to hear new takes on the songs you already enjoy.
- i loved it! and if you think the production is bad on the misfits other cd's wait til you hear this...waaaay worse. and the track list is so-so i would have liked more songs on here. so why 5 stars? because when you listen to this you are stepping back in time to a live misfits show. i can only imagine what seeing them live would be like. the coolest thing about this album to me is in between songs glenn is talking to the audience, cussing and rambling on. at the end of nike a go-go he sais, "we gotta tune up, we pound these f***ing guitars like jackhammers; what do you think we're lightweights?" the aggressiveness he exhibits is unbelievable. another highlight is henry rollins from black flag chimes in on the last track, we are 138. get this if you love the fits.

5 comments about Luna Live.
- I've only been listening to Luna for about two years now and can't be considered an expert. I kick myself one every couple of months for having lived in NYC in the 90's and seeing their name in the paper and yet never going to see them. I did get to see Dean and Britta play a show and renting that dvd they have really gives me an idea of how fine they were and are! Anyhow, I've bought all the albums and for what it's worth I listen to this the most. Maybe cause I used to be into jambands and the quality of a live cd doesn't bother me as long as there's some rocking nuiances that aren't on the album originally. There's plenty here!
- There's a couple of duds on this, but for the most part, it's got great jam versions of studio songs. If you're a Luna fan, it's well worth adding to your collection.
I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point for new fans, since you'll want to be familiar with several of their albums before you can fully appreciate the nuances they do here.
- Luna Live achieves the goal of any good live album. It introduces newcomers to this near-legendary alternative band, while showcasing enough new twists on their material to satisfy the most diehard of Luna fans.
Recorded at New York's Knitting Factory and Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club, Luna Live is much more than a document of their The Days Of Our Nights tour. Although the dark moodiness of that album's sound is apparent here, it's tempered with remarkable subtlety -- a quality often lost in live recordings. How that subtlety is achieved is what makes this CD worthwhile. There are fourteen tracks on Luna Live, and each is performed with a nearly ascetic, bare-bones ethos. It's as if Luna had decided to strip each song to its essentials, thus putting their lyrics and melodies front-and-center. The CD does have its share of flaws, however. What leaps out from its tracklisting is that no less than seven songs are culled from 1999's Penthouse album, and two of the songs are covers. For a band with no less than five studio albums, the remaining five songs are taken from their other four albums. Secondly, despite the masterful guitars of Dean Wareham and Sean Eden carrying the melodies, Wareham's deadpan voice tends to flatten the live intensity of several of the songs. All in all though, Live is a solid concert album that should please neophytes and connoisseurs alike.
- This was my first Luna record. What a way to begin!! I listened to the first couple of tracks on numerous occasions at the listening booths of numerous music stores and eventually broke down and bought it, mainly for the wonderfully enticing rendition of "Bewitched." Upon listening to the album in its entirety, and on a decent stereo, I was utterly amazed and completely smitten with this wonderous band. I have since bought a few of their other recordings and also had the opportunity to seem the band perform live down in Providence. This disk is perfect for both the Luna novice and the long-time fan.
- So I am a relative newcomer to the bands music, but I have seen them live. Although I agree that this CD is not nearly as magical as the real show, I have yet to hear a live CD that is the same as the experience. And isn't this the whole concept of recorded sound in the first place, to try and imitate the live event. We all know an imitation is never as good as the real thing. Seeing them in concert makes this CD even more special because the memory of the show can live on in your head over and over.
A great selection of songs from a great band to. This CD had all of my favorites, and I love this version of Puptent (the album version never quite did it for me). If you are a luna fan it is a must have, and this would be the second album after Bewitched I would recomend to a newcomer.

- I remember listening to this cassette when I was 17 yrs old and now, 15 yrs later I'm still listening to it. And I think its just as good today as it was back then, yeah the music is a bit on the garage band side but hey- thats whats great about it since the songs are all live. Reminds me of the times I have seen them play and I will always keep that close to me. This album has alot of special memories for me and my friends. I am so glad I was able to get this in the CD version so I can now share it with the youth of today.
