  1. Mark Stuart called me last year to ask if he & Stacey could play at the Coffee House Concerts Series in Memphis, which I run. I knew their name, but wasn't overly familiar with their music. I asked for a sample and this is what they sent. All it took was one listen - I called Mark back and said, "Where do I sign?" They put on one of the best shows the Coffee House Concerts Series has ever seen, and this album is very much what it was like. If you ever get the chance to see them live, take advantage of it, you'll remember it for a long time. If you can't see them live, buy this CD - it's the next best thing.

  2. I have seen Stacey and Mark in Concert at the Down Home, at Merlefest and own all their albums. Stacey is not only a voice but a personality. She can make you cry and laugh at the same time. Mark plays a great guitar and adds some great vocals. This live album gives the listener a great idea of what being there is like. Wish more DJ's would play her music...Jack

  1. A very thourough look at one of the many overlooked bands of the eighties. There genious is very obvious on most tracks and John Peel always seemed to bring out the best of every artist that sat in his studio.

5 comments about Live Rare Remix Box.

  1. I was impressed by the fast delivery of the product. It arrived in great condition as well. I would buy from this vendor again in the future.

  2. I didn't want to invest in this set based on the
previous reviews. But I finally gave in because sometimes
you need more chilis. I don't care for the remix of Give it Away.
A song this good shouldn't be messed with. The live portion just
isn't as good as Hyde Park or Off the Map - I guess I'm spoiled. But
the rare disc - even tho its only 4 songs they justify the cost. It
is the peppers between 'Mother's Milk' and BSSM. 'Sikamikanico' is a
rocking, 'everything-you-like-about-the-peppers'. Everyone is at their
    best.

  3. Amazon didn't make a mistake those are all of the songs on all three discs. $63 is a little more than I'm willing to pay for 13 songs.

  4. Amazon only lists the contents of disc 1, and that seems to have a lot of repetition. Not too surprising from the current "experts" posting reviews, but: Nobody here has bothered to tell what else you get for your $60+. What years (and RHCP incarnations) does it cover? What songs? How much filler? Any other materials worth mentioning in the set? Photos? Write-ups?

  5. Ah, yes, you definitely seem like a die hard "CHILLIS" fan. So big a fan, in fact, that you can even spell "chili" right. So die hard that you must use all capital letters when speaking their name. What a fantastic commentary, nice work.

5 comments about Warped Tour: 2004 Compilation.

  1. CAUTION:
THESE ARE NOT LIVE RECORDINGS LIKE THE OTHER WARPED DISCS.

Nontheless, a great collection of music with a few mediocre songs.

  2. One of the best compilation CD's out there. Great sample of the genre.

  3. the fisrt disc is sissy sounding people singing. the only good song is by go betty go. and the other disc is stupid screamo and spazoid stuff. what a waste of money!! :(

  4. This 2 disc compilation of all aspects of alternative is a must-have for anyone that likes it. They managed not only to put ther best bands at the time (2004), on these discs, but they also scrounged up the very best songs. If there was one song that each of these bands would've played at the Grammys, (if the Grammys played alternative, which they don't) these would be it. Again it's all aspects of alternative. You have your general punk "Jersey", and then you have your emo "Lightweight Holiday" "Amber Pacific" and you also have your ska "Big D and the Kids Table" and you have your hardcore punk "From First to Last" and your 90's wave punk "The Casualties". If you love alternative theres nothing to not love about this. I bought this the first day it came to store and i still give it a good work-out in my cd player.

  5. Well first off when i bought this cd like over a year ago.. i was just a greenday and Blink-182 junkie. had been for like 3 years. Then i bought this cd hoping to find some new bands and slowly started getting into other Punk/Emo/Alternitive/Screamo bands..
    This cd introduced me to..
    *A New Found Glory*
    *Anti-Flag*
    *Atmosphere*
    *Bad Religion*
    *Chronic Future*
    *Coheed & Cambria*
    *Halifax*
    *Hazen Street*
    *Matchbook Romance*
    *Motion City Soundtrack*
    *MxPx*
    *Simple Plan*
Which in time introduced me to other bands and now music is my life and i have over 3,000 songs in little over a year so ya this cd hits home for me and i sugest it and its 2003 and 2005 counterpart.. well im sure all of them but those are the ones i have to anyone... also this review really bugged me...

********Um I liked this CD, but really I was expecting more. More Punk Rock, the magority of the 52 songs are hard rock. Like From Autoum to Ashes, they're like hard rock. The only real punk rock is the New Foud Glory, Coheed and Cambria, NOFX, Flogging Molly, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, and some others. But most of its hard rock. If you classify some of the songs on the cd punk rock, you dont know punk rock you freakin poser. I bought the cd at Best Buy expecting it to be great, and for 5 dollars it seemed great. The punk rock thats on it is good, but some of the music just dosent cut it. Another thing I found lousy about this Cd is that they didnt have all the bands that where even at the Warped Tour, where was Senses Fail and Story of the Year and Hidden in Plain View?, are they not good enough. They should have gotten rid of all the crappy hard rock and put these great bands in their place. I gave the CD 3 stars, I am figuring that its a fair grade for a CD that isnt what it should be, but then is what it is and is good at it. I would recommend buying this CD, but if you truely are a punk rock fan dont expect the punk you deserve on the Warped Tour.*******

He has no idea what hes talking about...
    A) Autumn to ashes isnt hardcore its screamo so he doesnt know what hardcore or screamo is
B)Coheed, TBS, And THursday are emo not punk
C)He says he only likes punk but is wishing that senses fail, Hidden in plain view, and Story of the year was on there all emo just contridicded himself again.
SO in escence he is an idiot who knows nothing of punk...
    Thank you
    travis

  1. Like most of the reviewers before me, we admit that this is not the best Bad Brains Live CD if you only consider the audience size and participation, production, etc. But when you listen to the raw energy of the band, the individual and combined musical performances by each member(much better than the "Youth are getting restless")and the song selections...you will understand and experience the true Bad Brains at their best.

HR seemed to be inspired during his vocal performances on their classics, and Dr. Know's guitar solos are sonically stratospheric.

On an artistic level, comparing their two live CDs are just like comparing Picasso to Leonardo. Both are creative geniuses, however Leornado is technically proficent where Picasso's work seems raw and more emotional. I believe the "Live" CD is true raw perfection where the "Youth Are Getting Restless" is obviously more polished.

I had this on cassette and fnally found a copy on CD...it is in my permanent rotation! Get it now!!!

  2. Bad Brains have to have been at this time, the tightest band I have ever heard play live (which I did on numerous occasions 1988-1993). And this recording captures their tight, high energy performances perfectly.

While I like "Youth Are Getting Restless", I think this recording better captures the sound and fury of the "I Against I" era of Bad Brains (my favorite point in their career). This is one of my top 3 personal favorite live recordings....it definately does the band justice !

  3. This is a really good cd, it shows the Bad Brains could play great concerts in front of little crowds. The songs are all good choices, and sound even better than the album versions. My personal favorite is I and I Survive. H.R.'s voice is really energetic on songs like At The Movies and Secret 77. This was of a concert from around 1988, when they were really into metal. Bad Brains were original, and you can hear their performing talent.

  4. This is a really great "Bad Brains" album, with a good live performance, and even better song selection. Included is "Right Brigade", "I Against I", "Re-Ignition", and the cover of "Day Tripper". I could listen to this punk reggae forever. But, even though this and "Spirit Electricity" are great live albums, neither is as good as "The Youth Are Getting Restless". That's 17 tracks of furious perfection. Too bad they don't play like it anymore.

  5. bad brains what a great band here is sum of their songs recorded live in 84 i think. the album is great not as hard core as the usual but great for being done live.

5 comments about Heroin Hates You.

  1. First off let me start by saying, wow, what a title! The killer title as well as the cheap packaging led me to that I had stumbled upon something quite magnificent; if not a hidden gem it was at least a novelty recording of an iggy pop concert. Unfortunately, 'Heroin Hates You' falls into that later catagory.
We realize by listening to this cd that without the stooges backing him up onstage that the sonic power of the music is greatly diminished almost to the point where it becomes hard to enjoy once you've been familiar with his other more groundbreaking work.
Some people swear by Iggy Pop's 'The Idiot'; an album which has intgrueged me at times but never manages to distinguish itself to me as an all time classic. That album's fine studio work (Bowie) kept in the backround a flaw that becomes much more apperent on Heroin Hates You.
The flaw is that without the brothers Ashetone backing him up much of the passion, focus and intensity we saw in the stooges is, 10 years later, missing.
The sound quality in Heroin Hates You is pretty good, well above what I expected based on its' very basic packaging. And there are even a few moments of brilliant furious sonic intensity that reverberate blissfully into the listeners eardrums. Just a few though; and while having this cd in my collection isn't a bad thing it's just not neccesary.
Unless you are collecting all the iggy pop cds for some reason, then i suggest to skip this one. Instead I suggest looking at the first three stooge CDs, all of which have recently been expaned and remasted. A live concert from that era might be a better option- Telluric Chaos or Metallic KO, for instance. Also check out Lust for Life and the Idiot before you spend your time and money on Heroin Hates You

  2. I am a huge Iggy fan. I own all official Iggy / Stooges albums and many "unofficial" or bootleg releases. The sound quality on this CD is poor. The sound is muffled throughout and you can hear the "tape hiss" during quiet sections. However the show itself is really good. I recommend this for Iggy completists and for its historical value of a recording with Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) and Brian James (The Damned).

  3. I saw this show.....Checking my tape recording off KROQ the next morning. Couldn't believe it was the show I had just seen. The sound at the show had been unbelieveable. This mix was awful in comparison. I've gotten over it as the years have gone by, and this is no doubt the best representation of the show thats available. A GREAT IGGY performance. What you can't see as you are listening to this would boost the approval to a 10. The stage slowly sinking lower and lower as the band disappears before your eyes. The stage and band on the verge of total collapse thru out. Iggy engaging/confronting the audience like it was the Grande Ballroom in 1969. Punks hanging from the ceiling gurders at the Stardust, upside down , having midget fights. Spit, gobs and insults flying everywhere. I can clearly hear meself and partner in crime Rusty at points thru out this recording. What a treat this cd is from a personnal stand point. What a vital RnR document of Iggy on the edge from a historical stand point. As I slumped to the sidewalk outside the Stardust after this gig and gazed towards the stars, there it was! The local L.A. t.v. station that at that point, Connie Chung was doing the news for. The beauty and the beast indeed!!
A seminal show. BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I had a tough time finding a copy of this CD.'Heroin...' was recorded at a Los Angeles gig in November,1979.From the sound quality,I believe this may have been a soundboard recording. This is the title's first authorized release as it's been put out before as a 2-lp bootleg. So,when you get 'Heroin...',you won't get side four of the boot.Rest assure, this is still a great archive show by the Igster. The line-up for this gig included original Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and The Damned guitarist Brian James.Who could ask for more?As for the tunes, most of them are good to hear played live,I liked "Real Cool Time","Dog Food","New Values","Five Foot One" and "No Fun" the best.Comes with a 16-page informative booklet. One of those CD's that's nice to play at 2am.

  5. Great Iggy live CD! A must for the true Iggy fan. Crank up the volume to the max for No Fun. If that won't give you a rush I don't know what else to suggest!

  1. The Smugglers make a great showing with this live disc! These guys are great and the boyz are from my home town and I have met some of them too - nice nice guys! fun fun

  2. Canada's Smugglers have pulled out all the stops with this live album commermerating their 10 years together. It is mixed exellently, and captures the Smugglers at their best, playing garage-rockin' songs from their past albums, and throwing some new stuff out as well, including covers of Elvis, and the young fresh fellows! Their kick-ass, funny, and rockin' songs will get anyone out of their seats, and onto the dance floor.

  1. What great songs, and what great performances. Live captures Vitus at the height of its powers. One listen and you'll know that Saint Vitus IS doom.

  2. any good rock band has to really be able to prove themselves as a great live band, and this blast from the past definitely does just that. Saint Vitus was a classic doom band, sure, but to me they were just a great "rock" band plain & simple. Southern Lord records does a great job here and gets my praise for choosing to re-issue this live album that has probably been out of print for at least a decade now. recorded during their Mournful Cries European tour, they do great versions of songs from their first album, all the way up to M.C. probably one of the only official live records from one of the most under-rated bands out there, this show is truly a rare snapshot in time featuring the great Wino. after this tour, they did one last album with him, the almighty "V". after that album, he left Vitus to reform his old band, The Obsessed.

  3. I never got to see Saint Vitus live, back in the day but now I have a great collection of live Saint Vitus with this album. If you were into Saint Vitus at all get this album is what I have to say. Most live albums never live up to the polished studio tracks. But it's cool to hear Wino live like this and Dave Chandler is a guitar guru. This album has this energy and the band sounded great. For a live album I have to award it five stars. It's very heavy stuff, yaaaaaaa.
