  1. In my point of view, It's Captain at his best. What a great show it surely was that night in Amsterdam, Holland. Great Classics has been put on the album. Some less known stuff adapted for live performance sound so good too. For example: Common Geoffrey Brown, The Kamikaze millionnaire are my favorite in the album and they are played in a so good way. I Hightly recommand this album.

  2. Captain Sensible's Live at the Milky Way (1995) has to be the greatest live album ever recorded. The disc was recorded on the last stop of Captain Sensible's tour of Europe. His backing group The Ugly Sods (Paul Gray, Malcom Dixon and Garrie Dreadful) are all in top form. The good Captain plays all of his best known material and delivers the best stage banter I have ever heard on CD. The crowd gives him the business and he gives it back tenfold.

Space synth and other noise is added to bridge some of the songs together. The album has high production values and the final product shows. If you love punk, psychedelic music
or live performances then this disc is a keeper. Captain Sensible has never sounded better.

    Highly recommended.

  3. Hi,

I dont have the album allthough I am browsing for it for years now. But I had the best evenings at The Milky Way in Amsterdam that evening. Cappie at his best, dragged a bicycle on stage at one point trying to ride in playing outstandig guitar in his undies.

    Cheers Mr Capt.

    Greetz

    E. from Holland

  4. Captain Sensible first found fame as the bassist/guitarist with UK punk band The Damned. Live at the Milky Way was recorded in the early 90's with fellow ex-Damned member Paul Gray. Blistering versions of Damned originals Neat Neat Neat, Love Song and New Rose as well as the mandatory Smash It Up. The rest of the set comes from his solo career including a great version of his UK No.1 hit Happy Talk. Finishing up with a cover of Hey Joe and the song he wrote about the Falklands conflict Glad Its All Over. Sensible reveals the showman that he is, plenty of good songs, crowd interation, between song banter and of course the Sensibles a wanker chant. This is one live album you won't be bored with after a couple of plays and leaves you wishing you had been there to see it in the flesh. If you enjoy this check out the Damned back catalogue and the Captains solo work. Glad its all over? no I'm going to play it again.

  1. This is an excellent album to really get into power violence/grind/thrash. It also has really good sludge from bands like Noothgrush, Cavity, and Cattlepress. Its all live and it hasnt been doctored up or over dubbed so its as stripped down and pure as it gets. This showcases the best of the fiesta Grande shows 1-5. An excellent cd all the way around.

  2. This album is great...all of the slap a ham greats are on it. Its all live so a couple of the songs are of poor quality but the rest are good. Its also good for those who have been to all of the fiesta gandes and just want to have it to remember. Come on....Plutocracy,Spazz,No Le$$,Dystopia(+many others) 'nuff said.

2 comments about Live at Leeds (The Who?)/From Beer to Eternity.

  1. My first exposure to the Macc Lads was back around 1990. I was in a record shop somewhere in London and they were BLASTING the "From Beer To Eternity" album, side 2 (this was back when vinyl was still the norm). I remember being stunned by the blend of ferocious singing, over-the-top lyrics, and the fact that despite the unrelenting negativity of the vocals, most of the songs were as catchy and poppy as, say, the Ramones or the Buzzcocks. "Fluffy Pup" in particular just stuck in my head. The thing was, at that point in my life I was still just a little too sensitive and P.C., despite my love of punk, to take the plunge and buy all album so clearly full of hate.

well, I never did forget "Fluffy Pup." Fancy that, one listen and I remembered it for almost 20 years. So here I am, about to turn 40, and I finally went ahead and bought this double-cd. I'm so mad at myself for not buying it back in the day, because there's a ton of really great pop-flavored punk songs here. Yes, you have to be able to hear past all the mean-spirited ranting (and some of their stuff I am sure I'll never be able to stomach), but for all the profanity there's quite a few brilliant lines scattered throughout. Muttley Macclad, bassist/singer/leader, has a surly, growling voice that suits the music perfectly. And his natural sense of melody means the songs stay in your head, no matter how vile the lyrics are!

The pairing of "From Beer To Eternity" and the live album works really well. "Live at Leeds (The Who?)" is basically a "best of" compilation from their first two albums and early ep's. "Miss Macclesfield" should have been a top-ten hit, it is so full of hooks; of course the lyrics gauranteed no radio would touch it.

So hide your womenfolk (and your sheep), get out the beer and turn up the volume, because these guys took no prisoners.

  2. These albums sound great remastered. The only problem I have is that Anagram decided to tone down the liner notes and change some of the words. I guess they have to try and appeal to the limpwristed lefty punk crowd who might happen to buy this. If you are an easily offended, PC college opinionated nerd punk, then you might wanna just stick with your Leftover Crack or Anti-Flag or silly Business or Cocksparrer "streetpunk". The Macc Lads are not for you. Go back to your cardboard box in front of your parents mansion with your $2000 laptop and pretend like you are squatting...This music is for people with problems and it is great!!!!!!!!!!

  1. This is one of the best live compilations of the late 80's Steve Earle & The Dukes incarnation. The atmosphere is great and, apart from the usual suspects, the cover versions of the Stones "Dead Flowers" and old Irish (& Waterboys) song "When will we be married" are both riveting - the latter, one of the best covers of this song you will ever hear. Steve and the Band were on good form when this was recorded. Campaign for its re-release now!

5 comments about Berlin Live: Sacred and Profane.

  1. LET ME JUST SAY THIS. LAST WEEKEND, WHICH I BELIEVE WAS OCTORBER 6TH...
S0ME FRIENDS AND I SAW BERLIN'S ACT AT THE COACH HOUSE IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO. HAVING NEVER BEEN A FAN, ALTHOUGH I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED "METRO,"
I WAS ABSOLUTELY KNOCED OUT BY A PERFORMANCE FROM ALL ON STAGE. THE ORIGINAL SONGS AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED DON'T HOLD A CANDLE TO THESE UDATED
ROCK AND ROLL DRIVEN VERSIONS. TERI'S NEW BAND IS TIGHTER THAN EVER. I MUST GIVE KUDO'S TO HER 3 VERY TALENTED BANDMATES. THEREFORE, I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND PURCHASING "LIVE, SACRED AND PROFANE," RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE WHOLE DISC IS FANTASTIC..AND.."METRO" RULES. IT IS ON THIS DISC, A ROCK IN ROLL ANTHEM IN ITS OWN RIGHT. TO WITNESS AND HEAR A WELL SEASONED
    PROFESSIONAL IS A TREAT!

  2. This is such a great cd...Well worth it for the fan and/or casual fan, but please buy it new off the official website before you pay a huge amount used! Terri will even autograph it and it will only cost you $20!!!! It is such a great cd with all the hits and more live! Plus an Awesome Cover of Blondies Shayla!
It is a must for any Berlin fan!!!!

  3. It was SO nice to see some new material from Berlin. The live cuts are great and lively and Terri Nunn never sounded better. The new material, some live and some recorded, ain't bad either. I really liked "Steps" and "XGirl," written with Charlotte Caffey of the Go-Gos.

Its nice to see that at least one 80s band has not disappeared and is still kicking a-s!

  4. The new berlin album sacred and profane is one of the best live albums ever done.It was done in a small venue, therefor it feels like you were at the concert.Berlins sound is more Rock live and if you ever seen them live you know what I am talking about,Teris vocals are stronger than ever,I strongly suggest if like to rock a little pick up the new berlin -its hot

  5. First let me tell you, the energy that resonates off this CD alone is amazing. I can't imagine what the real concert was like. Terry Nunn sings an amazing set of songs, and her performance is truly remarkable.

I am not usually a fan of Live Cd's, because the songs usually sound bad or nothing like you remembered. This set of live songs are different from their origionals, but the way they are sung is really good.

I was also afraid to purchase this CD when I heard that there was a lot more guitar than synthesiser. Being a big synth-pop fan, this scared me off, but luckily I gave it a shot anyway.

Synth or no synth, these songs are sung beautifully and you will love your favourites sung with an energetic band and audience! In the song "No More Words", Terry interacts with the audience letting them sing part of the chorus.

Personal Picks: "No More Words", "Metro" (you have got to hear this one) "Masqurade", "Tell Me Why" ... well at this rate I'll name the whole CD, but it is a stellar performance.

What I would've done to be in that concert...

5 comments about 9-15-2000 Brussels.

  1. "Stunningly clear recording"--the official review certainly got that right! I can't stress enough how this might be the highest fidelity live album outside of the classical realm, and many of the older songs have a clarity and power that they couldn't achieve on the studio albums (not every engineer knows how to properly mic a suspended bass spring).

I recommend this both to longtime fans and anyone looking for their first EN album. You get an excellent overview of their body of work over a cohesive 2 hour experience, and it's only $10.

  2. While no recording could ever truly capture the spontaneity and energy of an EN show, the quality here makes it very worthwhile. This is one of my favorite live albums ever. Blixa's onstage commentary reveals warmth, and humor that may surprise many of his American fans. Unlike many profound artists, you can hear in his voice just how much he enjoys his work. And the songs are astonishing live. We get used to assuming that everything is processed and coming out of some keyboard live, and very little actually is. Everything from compressed air, to a large metal tub is used as an instrument.

I loved this band years ago, when I only knew them for their noise, and metal objects used for brutal sounding percussion. I love them even more now, for the instruments they make are even weirder, but the music is hypnotic and beautiful. And though they may have matured with age, they can still scare you if they want to. This is more than industrial music. This is groundbreaking art that continues to inspire people.

  3. Yeah I know that most of these songs are on albums and everywhere else but many of the songs ( particularly Silence Is Sexy ) allow to track to breathe a bit more. I still don't like it but it sounds a whole lot better than the studio version. Excellent sound quality and bizarre mutterings from Blixa when the song hasn't started at times. They even lost a couple of verses from Newtons Gravititlichkeit ( but I'm sure they have a copy of their album somewhere and will find the lyrics ). Otherwise all I have to say is that the crowd seem to enjoying the show. Perhaps a little too much when you consider that Jubel is 2 and a half minutes of live cheering after Redukt which leaves you wondering " Was that really necessary? Couldn't they just cut that out? " Nevertheless an excellent live show. Also if you've been doubtful over which albums you should get of Neubauten - this will come as a handy accessory

  4. First, I was really delightfully surprised by the quality of the recording. It sounds great. & the songs on this cd do often sound different from studio recordings. There's even some really great new material on this cd that I don't know from anything else by Neubauten. Great cd, worthwhile, recommended.

  5. The German band "Collapsing New Buildings" seems more timely than ever, after over twenty years in existence. I hesitate to call them an "industrial" band because I think they surpassed that genre many years ago; since "Tabula Rasa" Neubauten have been making sound art that manages to bridge the divide between high-concept and musical aggression. Their sound is like none other, and serves as a reminder in this age of ultra-sophisticated electronic synthesizers that the most beautiful, elegant--and also most frightening, dark, and foreboding--music can be made from the tools at hand: a shopping cart, a powerdrill, a bamboo stick, pipes, and electrical current. In the world of Neubauten, the powerlines sing.

"9-15-200, Brussels" captures a remarkable, inspiring performance. The sound quality is excellent, and more importantly, the songs are rendered with artistry and passion. Their rendition of "NNNAAAMMM" is spellbinding and worth the cost of the package alone.

I continue to be amazed that Neubauten is not as well known as the Velvet Underground or the Clash. They are truly the most awe-inducing musicians working today. Listening to them pulls you into a world where music is part of the exhilerating riskiness of life. Listening to Neubauten makes one feel as if the world itself hangs in the balance, as if it could all come crashing down in flame in an instant. And it can. It can.

5 comments about Sturm & Drang Tour 2002.

  1. I think that this one is better, because I believe that ATTAK is a better album overall than WWIII. It is easier for me to listen to this album than the WWIII live album.

  2. I originally bought S&D Tour CD for a friend of mine, but then kept it for myself, and I was happy I did, I think.

This is a great sampler of KMFDM's stompable stuff - DIY, Megalomaniac, and Sturm Und Drang - so you can save some money to get a taste of the good KMFDM if you're just starting out on your journey to salvation through KMFDM.

"Boots" is really fun, especially live. "Megalomaniac" and "DIY" are uncharacteristically less energetic than they should be.

All in all, this is an alright album. Get it if you're a n00b to KMFDM, along with Symbols and Naive.

  3. I got a gift certifacte for my birthday and have been snatching up a few of teh KMFDM cd's I like. So i figured that this could be a lot of fun as well. Skold isn't there, and only after buying the cd did I realize he was out before the tour started, so I can only blame myself for this. But the song selection I can pick on KMFDM for. Also, the lack of power in some of the songs is very prevalant. DIY rocks, but the live version has no energy. Sturm und Drang is the best song on ATTAK yet it is incredibly weak, and the best part of the song is ruined by a crowd that didn't even participate in a "KMFDM" sing a long. very upsetting. "Dirty" is performed pretty well, and the song Boots recieves a pretty good performance, but overall, I should have picked up a different CD.

  4. Some of these tracks are great but then they're mixed with some that could be better. It could have been better there's no doubt about that but perhaps with a different show or if they hadn't rush released this CD as a " limited " release ( I still see it in the shops though )

    One for the fans really

  5. this was a worthwhile relase, but it had some serious flaws. the song selection is lackluster..."the only good one's a dead one" was performed live, and is unarguably one of the best pig songs ever, yet it doesn't make release? and they pile on the bad (we might as well come out and say it) "yohoho" instead? i'd also like to hear more of their older works, perhaps with a bit of a retooling with their new sound. instead, many of the tracks sound like the studio songs, just not as clear and with worse vocals--sasha's voice seemed to fade out a bit on some of the tracks, and he didn't have that much emotion or energy.

overall, a nice release but not worth the price. good for collectors/fans/what-have-you, but newcomers should try a different album (*cough cough* NIHIL *cough cough*).
