  1. Sid Vicious, along with Glen Matlock Rat Scabies and Steve New, blast through punk covers and Sex Pistols originals like there's no tomorrow. Well there really weren't too many tomorrows for for Sid Vicious. This gig was recorded live at the Electric Ballroom in London the day before Sid left for the US to meet his fate. Excellent versions of Eddie Cochran, Stooges, Heartbreakers and Dolls songs. You can even hear Nancy Spungen in the audience. A complete punk universe captured on tape. A must buy if you like the Sex Pistols and above bands

  1. this cd has all of the same songs as in insomniac but insomniac has alot more tracks the only song on here thats not on insomniac is knowledge. (check out the new superhits album before you buy it, i have most of the songs on it and i only have five greenday cds) a four because of the lack tracks and because it has the same songs. but its greenday so its got to be great

  2. "Bowling Bowling Bowling Parking Parking" is Green Day's first live EP, and they sound even better playing live than they do on their regular albums. Their punk attitude shows through more when they play live than on any other album, even "Dookie." The tracks are few here, only 7 songs, but it is still an incredible record. Personally, I think "Brain Stew" is the best track on this album, but every song is great. I highly suggest this to any Green Day fan. Don't let the high price drive you away, it is well worth the money!

  3. Despite the shortage of tracks, this CD has the live versions of most of Green Day's best songs- which sound BETTER than the Album versions. I think that Brain Stew is the best song on this CD. A must-buy for Green Day fans!

  4. I Bought this CD because I Wanted to own all the green day CD's. The only bad thing about this live cd is there is only seven songs! Where are the rest! [Only] 7 songs? Its worth it if you like green day as much as i do.

  5. 'Bowling Bowling Bowling Parking Parking' is the first of the two live Green Day records released officially by Reprise Records, and the only thing it lacks is length. There are only 7 songs blasted out quickly by the punk-rock kings, but a worthwhile purchase nonetheless. 'Knowledge', the fourth song on the record, is especially good and a fun song to listen to live. With the live experience of Green Day in their existence, this album is certainly very good, and easier to get too than the large amount of Green Day bootleg cds there are. Teamed up with the second official live recording, 'Foot In Mouth', 'Bowling... Parking...' results in a very enjoyable record that gives you the brilliant experience of Green Day LIVE!

  1. A good Spacemen 3 live CD release, but way too similar to their 'Spacemen Are Go!' disc(see my review).A worthy hour long live concert from 1988,apparently.I saw a review somewhere(cannot remember where)suggesting that this might ACTUALLY be the same show, but re-edited.Either way,'Performance...' is fun to listen to late at night.Tunes that stood out were "Things'll Never Be The Same",the mind-levitating "Take Me To The Other Side","Walking With Jesus",Sun Ra's "Starship" and "Revolution".Good neo-psychedelia.Get ONLY if you don't already have the previously mentioned 'Spacemen Are Go!' or if you happen to be a die-hard fan.

  2. While tracks like Mary Anne, Rollercoaster, and the one-two-three punch of Starship, Revolution, and Suicide are good, the rest is a little give and take.

For one thing, four of the ten tracks are covers (Mary Anne, Roller Coaster, Come Together, and Starship) which makes one wonder if there wasn't a show that had live versions of say, Call the Doctor or Come Down Easy, etc. That, and the disc sounds as if it was culled from multiple sources.

Either way, the disc is worth buying, if only for the last three tracks.

  3. This is a wonderful, blasted example of the Spacemen 3's euphoric, trance-inducing sound. Were there anyone to question the Spacemen's validity as an artistic entity in my presence I would wonder whether this individual might be missing the point. Features all the hits which led Forced Exposure to give them the monniker: "Urine Salesmen of the Apocalypse". Too great.

  4. Some people argue that Spacemen 3 were terribly over rated, while those who know realize Sp3 as the precursor for the entire shoe gazer movement. This live album should prove the doubters wrong. All thier classic songs are here: Mary Anne, Walkin with Jesus, Take Me to the other side, et. al, and they are all great. The greatest thing about this album is the final four song arc of Repeater, Starship, Revolution and Suicide, which is one long white-noise anthem that is sure to get your blood running. If you've never heard Sp3 before don't buy this album first, but don't be afraid of the sheer brilliance of these lads.

  1. this is better than performance...many of these songs were not played often...great sound

  2. Have heard from a couple of reliable sources that this CD is most likely a bootleg. Not sure, don't really care because EITHER way,'Spacemen Are Go!' is a damn fine live recording of the band upon their last tour that apparently took place in Germany in 1989.At this point, the band had changed it's line up to a four piece with two members that would later become founding members of Spiritualized. The tracks that I thought stood out are their 13th Floor Elevators cover "Rollercoaster","Walking With Jesus"(Spiritualized STILL plays this tune in their live sets to this day),"Things'll Never Be The Same","Revolution" and the stunning 16-minute "Suicide".Ignore the negative reviews of this title you may've seen.Plain and simple,a good heavy drone space rock disc that fully deserves a place in your music collection.

  3. How many times is this band going to release the same songs in a different order on a different cd with a different cover recorded from a different angle in a different shoddy studio??? make it stop...

  4. When I think of "Psychedelic", my first thoughts are usually the lighter, "fluffier" brand epitomized by The Beatles, The Monkees, even The Banana Splits (! ). THIS is more the "serious", genuinely drug-induced variety. It drones-- on and on-- in a rather monotonous fashion. Which means, depending on your tastes, this could either be seen as "boring", or "just what the pusher ordered". I imagine this might make an interesting background for lovers (providing you've also got some flashing colored lights on as well!). Was the band ON drugs when they did this-- is it supposed to make listeners FEEL like they are-- or would BEING on them while listening enhance the experience (as, legend goes, it did while watching 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY from the front row)? Okay-- it's not MY thing. But maybe it's just NOT the place to start-- and unfortunately, this WAS my first Spacemen 3 album. Oh well! I DO love the packaging, though. The back is a photo of Thunderbird 5 in space. The front is a blurry, trippy, color-distorted painting of Thunderbird 2-- hence the logo and title references. Anyone who's a Gerry Anderson fan can't be ALL bad!

  5. Spacemen Are Go! sounds like it was recorded on a hand-held microcassette recorder duct-taped to the bottom of a toilet in the back of a noisy bar. There's no way Spacemen 3 could have sanctioned this release. It makes Daniel Johnston's Homestead recordings sound like 48-track digital.

5 comments about Dance Craze - The Best of British Ska... Live!.

  1. Yes,unfortunately the excellent tracks by Madness aren't on the CD. What everyone fails to mention though are the extra tracks that weren't on the original vinyl edition. Nearly the entire, very excellent, "Too Much Too Young" EP by The Specials ( AKA ) is found here. As is another track by The Selecter "Carry Go Bring Come", which also wasn't on the original release. So the CD isn't quite the same without Madness, it's still great. But what do I care as I have both. Now put on your loafers, wingtips, creepers or jack boots and start Moon Stomping!!!!!!!!

  2. The original Dance Craze album introduced me to ska almost 20 years ago. The album changed my life, encouraging me to search out albums from all the bands: The Specials, The Selecter, Madness, Bad Manners, The (English) Beat (sadly, the Bodysnatchers only put out singles, so I couldn't get anything for them in the States). Unlike a great many live albums, this one really communicated the frenetic energy of a live show.

When they re-released this album I was excited to have the opportunity to replace my original worn out copy. While it is still very good, all of the Madness tracks have been removed. I know this is probably a contract issue, but the Madness tunes were some of the best. It leaves a BIG hole in the flow of the album.

Sooo, while this is still a great primer for folks who are new to early 80s British ska, try to track down a copy of the original. Better yet, try to track down a copy of the video. It's got 2-3 times as many songs, and you get to SEE how great the bands were, and how they really got the audiences dancing.

  3. Due to contract problems Madness are not on the CD,Only on the now hard to get record.Still a great CD.Some of the best 2nd wave ska captured on this recording. The movie comes up for sale in scootering mag,s from England now and then ,but to be honest its not very good. Also if you get it from England you will need to change it over to watch it on north American TV,s.I dont think it was ever produced in the American version? Also look for World of SKIN,a great documenty from UK,and Made in Britain [a skinhead film].....HOPE THIS HELPS

  4. This CD contains some of the best of British Ska, or at least some of the best Ska bands recorded on 2 Tone. It's hard to beat live versions of some of these classics, and in fact, songs like Concrete Jungle (the Specials) and Mirror in the Bathroom (the English Beat) on this CD are superior to their studio counterparts. This is a wonderful sampler and a must-have for any Ska fan.

  5. I bought this album way back in the day and wanted to have it on CD, but it's missing MADNESS!! I'm glad I still have the original album and the video! Dance Craze is still a good CD because you can't get a better compilation of British SKA than this.

5 comments about Germicide: Live at the Whisky, 1977.

  1. This is only the second Germs release I've ever heard. How many 'actual' albums did they put out? Was very impressed with the sincerity of the Germs. They're a true-to-the-roots all out American punk band. They're dirty, rude, mean, offensive and have a totally violent additude. Perfect! Tracks I found myself looking forward to on this CD were "Sex Boy", "Sweet Dream", the slamming "Suicide Machine" and "Teenage Clone". Line-up: Darby Crash (R.I.P.)-vocals, Pat Smear-guitar, Lorna Doom-bass and Belinda Carlisle (Go-Go's) believe or not on drums. Should draw in old school followers of Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion, Black Flag and Circle Jerks to name just a few. A should have.

  2. Okay, the reviews are either 1 or 5. I give it a four because I bought it, ignored it on my iPod for almost a year, and have listened to it three times all the way through in the last 24 hours.

It is loud, sloppy, bratty and at times great. It is the definition of the whole DIY punk thing, like The Mekons first album (different for sure but with the same attitude). You can hear bits of pieces of trashy metal, Bowie, etc. Suicide Machine is my favorite track, but the insults, hurled bottles and trash are all there as well.

  3. OK, let`s get one thing straight. The Germs are one of my favorite punk bands ever, and I really like their music, as they recorded some of the best stuff the L.A -scene had to offer. But really, can anyone say that they like listening to this album? Admit it, the Germs were pretty disasterous as a live group. I`m not saying this about the band, in their last active years (circa 1979-80) the band was a tight gang, and everyone knew how to play their instruments. But even in their "heyday" (can you say that about the Germs anyway?) their live shows were a complete mess. For God`s sake, Darby had to consume a crapload of drugs to perform! And if Darby was the reason that their live shows were a train wreck in their best days, this one, this album was recorded in 1977. That was when the Germs couldn`t even play. Add to that the wasted performance by Darby (in the time of this album, Bobby Pyn) and you`ve got yourself a very, very bad live album.

If you`re a fanatic Germs -fan, then I assume you already have this, but really. For a band this self-destructive and short-lived, all you need is the essential (MIA) The Complete Anthology. It has almost everything they recorded, plus a couple live tracks.

  4. ...five for pure atmosphere. This is not the band that would later record "Germs(GI)"; this is four kids screwing around, having fun. There are hints of talent in songs like 'Forming' and 'Let's Pretend', but most of the set is a mess. Still, the importance of the moment that "Germicide" documents--the infancy of America's most influential punk scene--cannot be diminished. For a frightening contrast(and I'm not using "frightening" in a hyperbolic way), listen to this CD and then watch the documentary "The Decline of Western Civilization" in which the late-period Germs appear. It will give you an idea of the dark depths plumbed on the L.A. punk scene in the space of two and a half years.

  5. As one reviewer noted, this album about sums up the punk 'philosophy' that anyone can put together a band. And indeed, this sounds like anyone did put together a band and got booked at the Whiskey.

The value here is basically historical--early Germs, early punk, lots of attitude, absolutely unlistenable at times, etc. The band is not, er, polished, and the audience is rowdy. The result is an album you won't be popping in regularly.

As a punk 'document', it's of mild interest. The MIA collection is the set to get for this brief band, whose singer had the misfortune of dying right before John Lennon, thus losing all chances of 'fame'.
