- Well I was at this show on the night of Oct. 31 2001. It was about the 30th time seeing the Murder City Devils, it was a great show but a very sad night. My friend and I went and decided for once we would not do what we normally do during those shows (which was get in the middle of the pit) we decided just to stand there and watch. It was the last time we would ever get to see the Devil's again.
It wasn't the best show of theirs I have ever seen, but still it was amazing. What suprised me the most was how they performed how they always did, half-drunk and moving around the stage, with Spencer changing about half the songs with switching chouruses for verses and etc. I bet some people thought with a final show from a band they would try to make it as perfect sounding as they could. But no they felt it more important to have fun, which is what I always liked.
As far as the cd goes it is still great, though it doesn't compare to actually having been there. I feel bad for anyone who never got the chance to even see them live, when I and my friends have stayed after shows to talk with them, and they always would. We had some good times with them, I'll never forget when Dann gave me two dollars because I needed to buy something. They were just friendly (drunken) people all around and they put on one amazing show.....
They will be missed
- First of all, the sound quality is great, even if all of the performances were not so great. But that's what happens when you have a combination of extremely high energy and alcohol. The Murder City Devils were truly one of the greatest pure rock n roll bands ever, and this show was outstanding. WARNING: Do not make this cd your first purchase of MCD material, otherwise you may not like it. This cd was meant for the fans, so become aware of all their previous material before purchasing this live cd, because it is exactly that, really live. The DVD of this show is even better than the cd, and I give that 5 out of 5 stars. Broken Glass almost brought a tear to my eye when I watched it for the first time. Murder City never disappointed to give a great show and this cd proves that fact.
- i, sadly, was one year too late for the bliss that was the murder city devils, but i feel that their music will live on in my heart. and especially the hearts of those who experienced it all.
and although it's not quite the same i feel this cd captured perfectly the experience of a murder city devils show as i have dreamed it many times before.
the beautiful guitar tones of dan and nate, the bold steady drumming of coady, the smooth basslines of one of my biggest musical influences derek fudesco, a delightful cameo by the wonderful andrea zolo, and a drunken spencer moody doing what he does best. everything but unique stylings of leslie harding on the organ. but i feel nick dewitt did a fine job.
-Ben
- a great bullet to the head for the killing of a monster of sad songs and sailors. to bad too soon a great band with talent disappears into the ports of corpses.
- This album is by no means perfect. There is plenty of feedback, messed up instruments, mic in mouth singing, and I don't think the lyrics to even one song are correct. (I can't judge the new songs because I haven't heard the originals, but I would bet the new songs are messed up too.) All this is just the way to go for the Devils, however. They were a crazy raucaus band, and for anyone who already has all of the albums, this is definitely worth picking up. It makes me sad to listen to it, as they were one of my favorite bands, but at least they went out loud and drunk like they always were.

- You've got to love Howard Jones. To sustain a worth-while career in the fickle muzik world for over 20 years & still be responsible for producing some exceptional, beautifully crafted tunes is some feather to have in your cap!! Here, on this LIVE DELUX cd, he brings together a collection of his classic songs updating them with such a vibriant 21st century feel. Its intentionally LOUD, fast paced & shows that re-inventing 1's muzik can be a real joy for existing fans & a worthy introduction to new fans who will no doubt relish in the new direction Howard's taking his muzik!! just take the 'Infinity 'from Ministry mixed by Ferry Corsten for example & Howar'd inclusion on there ' Just Look At You Now ' or Sept 2004's ' Slip Away ' single from Mohito feat. Howard which was a massif house club anthem!! If thats not enough check out the fantastic new album REVOLUTION OF THE HEART due out May 2005 or the 20th Anniversary DVD due out 28th March 2005!!
The man is well & truly back.....not that he ever went away!!
DO UORSELF A FAVOR--------------------> BUY THIS GREAT SOUNDING CD!!
- I like all the songs on the CD, but I can't listen to it. I've got the limited edition numbered version, and I'm assuming the music is the same across the different versions that came out. I like Howard Jones enough to special order a limited edition disk, so I'm not slamming him because I don't like him. He's just taken the louness trend that ruins most of today's pop and rock music to such an extreme that I can't listen to the CD.
To be more specific about why I don't like the CD, the music has been compressed so much that there are no dynamics left. It's compressed even more than Perform.01. Put another way, the CD is too LOUD! There's so much compression that I can easily hear distortion and crackling in some of the tracks. If you like being intimate and involved in your music, forget this disk. This CD is loud and in your face, and too loud to enjoy listening to by a long shot. I don't like being shouted at by anyone. Chris Hudec
- The interesting aspect to this live CD is how it was engineered to make the music the focus and not so much the concert. So although you can hear the crowds the songs themselves retain a studio feel. This is good because all of these classics have been taken back to the drawing board and reworked. And believe me it is fabulous!
"Conditioning" starts off with this guitar rift and rock sound that made me think "oh no! the wrong CD came in the package!". But don't fear because the recognizable synth enters and the new version is so fresh and cool! "New Song" comes in a bit more reflective with a slowed down pace that matches Howard's ability to be serious and fun! Neat little scratching and crowd chanting too! "Like to Get to Know you Well" has the synth matching with some softer percusion and electric guitar. This version is incredible! As usual on this song and "What is Love" Howard allows some time for the audience to sing in! "Collective Heartbeat" is an instrumental trancy techno number which seems perfect for Howard's oeurve. Although techno I believe I hear guitar that I am assuming is real! "Hide and Seek" here samples a little from the orchestral version making this song more haunting and meaningful. An allegory that has become a longtime fan favorite to discuss over late night coffee. "All I Want" is really changed here! More synthy with some piano accents and pulsing beat. Excellent! "Hunt the Self" has vintage synth sounds, guitar, and Howard declaring "the world is my hunting ground". The guitar adds grit to high charge declaration! "The feeling is strong!" "Let the People Have their Say" seems to saunter out of the synth and guitar with Howard's vocal taking control. An excellent number from the PEOPLE album! "You Know I love you" is a hi NRG stomp techno version of the 1987 hit!! Try keeping up with this!! "Things Can only Get Better" starts out with actual album version playing and then Howard and co. take over. Casual vocal delivery of this great song!! "What Is Love" starts out ultraslow as if to tease the audience and listenters! Then this beat comes in rides along the song speeding it up! Howard always sounds amazing singing this song! "Everlasting Love" and "No One is to Blame" are two bonus studio remakes that are increidble!! If you love Howard then PLEASE treat yourself to these great remakes and live show!

- The first 6 songs are intense riot/punk stuff, live in 77,and they rule. The 7th song is "acoustic" though it features nothing but an acoustic guitar and dual Ari Up&Nina Hagen vocals. The "dub era" songs are downright boring and don't even sound like dub to me (at least in the reggae sense of the word).I guess the cd is OK for the first 6 tracks, just not exactly the best bang for the buck.
- There are two halves to this CD - one of the early, pre-Cut punk stuff, one of the later more overtly reggae/African influenced stuff. This is an accurate depicition of the band at these stages, full of irreverance and spastic musical joy. I love the Slits and saw them several times, this is more like what they were than any of their studio recordings manage to express.
- These live recordings are much more interesting than the studio versions. The "punk era" performances are best, the later versions are less exciting. Overall, a good introduction to the band. It's just a pity that Budgie doesn't appear.
- These live recordings of the slits are pretty awful, even by punk standards. The music plods and Ari, lead singer, sounds ghastly, like she doesn't know what to do with the mike. A very disappointing (& I would say exploitative) CD.

- . . .give this one a chance! It's a swell pop disk, garagey in it's verve and zest, but it DOESN'T fall into the garage-rock pitfall of being shamelessly retro/hipster. Modern, sassy, and witty -- not to mention melodic and quirky musically. You won't regret this. . .

- One of the greatest concerts I have ever been to. Whipping just all out rocked! Great versions of Faithfull, Dissident, SOLAT, Go. Off He Goes has an awesome solo by Mike. THE BEST!
- I was at this show freezing along with everyone else. GREAT show!!!
- This was my first PJ boot, and is still my favorite, even compared to the Mansfield 2003 show, which is incredible also. East Troy set in stone my feeling that this band loves and is devoted to its fans, and visa versa. They played- and the fans waited and rocked- in 20 degree weather. The intensity makes your hair stand up. I only wish I had been there. I'd stand through a hurricane to see this band- they are great, and because their fans- myself included- are so wild about them, the mutual love makes the music even more personal and amazing. Their talent and integrity continue to amaze me, as does this album, after what must be 100+ listens. Fantastic boot.
- Like a lot of the people who already have reviewed this, I too was at this show (my 2nd PJ experience). I'm a huge PJ fan, and an owner of all the OSB's, along with numerous recordings from years past. I really have nothing to add that hasn't been said, other than it was a little disappointing to have RVM as the closer..end of first, second set (or like Seattle 2, the 5th song), but a little weak for a closer. However, it was cold and and the rest of the set was aggressive with Eddie even addressing those who get their hands on this bootleg. A must have for true PJ fans. Great to hear Porch!!
- I attended this experiment in hypothermia, and it was one of the most memorable concerts in my life. This CD is worth every penny to Pearl Jam fans, and is a good reminder of that intense night. If you weren't able to attend, you missed a very interesting show. The temperature was somewhere in the mid to low twenties, and there was a light, constant breeze. All this meant that the show was a little shorter than others. Fortunately, Pearl Jam made it up to their fans the next night in Chicago, which was indoors. All in all, if you need another live version of a lot of great songs, buy this album.

5 comments about 08/6/00 - Bercy, Paris, France.
- This live performance captured in Bercy is one of the best from the European tour back in 2000. Its a tight, energetic, and largely enjoyable show. Both for new fans and old ones as well. The band makes only a few flub ups during the show. Ed messes up the lyrical arrangment in Evacuation, but its still a pretty good version! One of the guitars messes up at the beginning of Hail Hail. Thats the only flaw that really sticks out. Pretty much thats the only 2 big mistakes. Theres a little messed up note at the very beginning of In Hiding, but it actually sounds kinda cool. It ends up being a good version of the song. Gods Dice and Yellow Ledbetter are the real stick outs of the show. Both songs are played a lot better than normal. Especially Ledbetter. Ive not heard a better or cooler version of the song. Its the only version I even listen to! Ive read a review of this album where they said it was only an average performance and that Eds voice was weak here. They couldnt be more wrong. Ed really sounds good at this show. AS he did for most of the 2000 tour. That statement made me wait to get this show instead of going ahead and buying it. If you happen to want to try to buy this, dont let that opinion stop you beacause this is out of print and that price may change from 20 dollars to 90! This show is very good and I recommend it to anyone who may still be wanting to buy these older shows.
- This show from the City of Light has been unfairly tagged as boringly professional. While the "professional" aspect is certainly evident (it is one of the more mistake-free shows from the tour), the "boring" part is highly subjective. To me, the band sounds intent on hitting every note as hard as they can, but making sure it is the right note. They certainly do not mail in this performance; just listen to Mike McReady bear down on "Even Flow", and you'll get the idea. One of the better European bootlegs. Don't miss it!
- This was my first pearl jam concert ever. Im from mexico, and since the band has never been here i had the opportunity to see them when i was in france. The concert started out rocking with sometimes. This was one of the most intense performances i had ever seen. The set continued to flow in an impressive beautifull manner. Everything was perfect in the show. All the pauses (most of which are not included in the cds), everything Eddie said, all the music. Perhaps what i didnt like much was the lack of a new cover or an improv, but all in all the show was absolutely fabulous. In my opinion this show is in between the 15 best shows of the tour.
- Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This is an above-average performance and one of the highlights of the European portion of the 2000 bootleg series. Unlike in all of the other non-English speaking nations on the tour, Eddie Vedder speaks to the crowd in their own language here, perhaps remembering some old high school French lessons. Regardless, large portions of the crowds in those other countries understood Eddie's English anyway (unless they were just happy to hear him say anything), but Eddie works this Parisian crowd well and they are extra enthusiastic. This show presents an especially strong performance by the band, with Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron laying down the rhythms flawlessly, while Mike McCready's solos are even more intense than usual. While there are some crushing heavy rockers here, like "Gods' Dice," "Go," and "Hail Hail," on this evening the band really shine on the mid-tempo numbers. This includes very impressive renditions of "In Hiding," "Wishlist" (which was rather sappy in its original form but is much stronger throughout this tour), and the best "Yellow Ledbetter" to this point in the series.
- Great standard set list from the European tour with a few nice extras. Highlights from the main set are the rarely played "Pilate," "In Hiding," and an excellent version of "RVM." The encore is pretty standard although begins with three rocking numbers, "Hail, Hail," "Go," and "Once." Not an amazing show but solid none-the-less.

- That quote is from the, well, let's call them liner notes of this CD. It really fits this CD well, this quote, because you feel like you are there. Experiencing every song and every breath with these two fabulously talented singer-songwriters. From "Something 'Bout You" to "When We're Gone, Long Gone" and every song in between, this CD shows the talent of these two. Kevin's rendition of the John Hiatt song "Train to Birmingham" may well be my favorite on this disc but every song is delivered perfectly. This album is ideal for savvy Americana fans as well as fans of those "writers nights" experienced in a listening room in Nashville. It showcases not only their songwriting skills but also their ability to deliver a stunning and meaningful performance as an artist. This album is truly simple in some ways but terribly complex in others and to write a review of such an album is a diffcult feat.
- I had the good fortune to be present on one of the nights this CD was being recorded. It was a mesmerising experience for me and one of the best live performances I have ever had the privilege to be present at.
I have had this CD since April this year (it was released first in Australia to coincide with a return visit from Kieran and Kevin) and I have hardly had it off the CD player since. It's one of those timeless and constantly engaging disks that just keep on making an impression. Kieran and Kevin were wonderful to see live together and this CD displays their remarkable talents for writing exceptional songs and supporting those songs with tasteful instrumentality, as each of them accompanies the other turn about. Acoustic music is very much my favourite kind of music, and Keiran and Kevin take it to new heights on this CD - the playing is quite exquisite. It is really hard to choose favorite tracks on this CD as all the tracks have merit and are rendered with taste and (after all) are such good songs in themselves. If you like good acoustic music with interesting songs, sung by voices that are individual and arresting, I think you would like this CD
- First off, I have to say I am much more familiar with Kevin Welch's material than I am Kieran Kane's, but suffice it to say they work very well together in this bare-bones live acoustic setting that took place in November 12th and 13th of last year (1999) in Australia. It's two singer/songwriters who display their hearts and souls to the listener. It all comes up trumps, because it's all played with NO pretension and NO gimmickry. It's two guys, their guitars and their songs. I particularly like Kevin's "Something About You", "Life Down Here On Earth", the amazing story-telling of "Some Kind Of Paradise" and the fantastic reading of John Hiatt's "Train To Birmingham." Among Kieran's, I like "Eight More Miles", "If I Could Be There", and, especially "When We're Gone, Long Gone."
I wish Kevin had played something from his most recent album, "Beneath My Wheels", but I can't complain too much. This is really good stuff, especially in an age of OVERproduction and studio wizardry it's VERY NICE to hear what's really most important anyway: it's what it always comes down to in the end: the SONGS! ......and well, these guys get it done right. So, enough's enough! What are you waiting for? Dig in everyone........
- Kieran Kane and Kevin Welch are two of the finest -- well, "singer-songwriters" is much-too-ordinary a term for these two, so I'll have to borrow a phrase from Carter & Grammer, who claim to play "postmodern mythic American music" -- two of the finest mythologists making American music today.
They are two of the members of the renegade Dead Reckoners collective in Nashville who are dedicated to singing "country music" their way, which does not sound much like Music Row. On this CD, recorded live last autumn in Melbourne, each man takes a turn singing a song, then accompanying the other. None of the songs here are new to people who already know their repetiore, but then, I don't have to preach to the choir. Kevin is the one with the Oklahoma accent (gen-u-ine). Here he sings "Something 'Bout You" and "While I Was Loving You", up-tempo love tunes that he wrote, and also John Hyatt's "Train To Birmingham" (see if you don't get goosebumps while listening). His own songs "Some Kind of Paradise" and "Wilson's Tracks" are story songs with "edge". I'm very up on Kevin Welch's music. He has the trinity of qualities that make for a lasting musical performer -- great voice, great guitar and GREAT songs. Kieran, who was half of "The O'Kane's" band some years back, covers his own song (John Prine did the "famous" version) of "In A Town This Size", and does an impressive version of Hank Williams' "Ramblin' Man". They like to joke that together they are a lot like Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin. That's not true. But it's funny. The notable thing about this CD project is that while it sounds LIVE -- you hear Kevin clear his throat, for instance, and you hear them talk off-mic to the crowd -- it SOUNDS GREAT. No mud, no screeching, no boomyness. I'm pretty sure if you buy this CD, you will want Welch & Kane's whole catalog. I know I do.

- Great versions of these songs. The dedications at the end made me cry. This is a must-have for all Morrissey fans.
- Take Morrissey music and remove the overporduced polished studio glitz. That's what this EP is all about. It's AWESOME. It sounds like real Rockabilly Rock in it's raw and uncut natural habitat. This is my 2nd favorite Morrissey recording. Get this CD. Do it for yourself.
- Enjoyable live Morrissey show from KROQ in the 90s. Includes a wonderful version of "My Love Life"- a personal fave.A lot of annoying Moz fans who called the Richard blade show and left Moz messages. I recommend you skip that part unless you have a half hour to kill. Of course if you were on of those callers I imagine this would be most delightful.
- a quick run of three great tracks in the studio back in 1991. KROQ has always been a supporter of Moz and it's great to hear these live versions. "There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends" ditches the lonley piano for a decidedly more upbeat version and both "My Love Life" and "Sing Your Life" are performed well and are quite lovely. a nice little treat for fans.
- If you haven't purchased this one yet, it's probably about time. You've heard these songs on the radio, the internet, possibly even on Johnny Carson. This is a classic performance on a decade old CD single, it's impossible to tell how much longer it will be available; and the CD sounds better than anything that you've taped or streamed from the Richard Blade interview.

1 comments about The BBC Punk Sessions.
- This CD contains all of the Vibrators' recorded sessions as guests on the BBC's celebrated John Peel show, the nightly radio show which was the showcase for Punk Rock in the UK from 1976 onwards. It also features a live set, unique in that the lineup included Don Show and Dave Birch on keyboards, sax & bass, together with regulars Knox (guitar/lead vocals), Eddie (drums) & John Ellis (lead guitar/vocals). The sessions span the seminal years of their career leading up to the releases of their classic "Pure Mania" and "V2" albums. As drummer Eddie says in the sleeve notes, the musicianship developed as the sessions went on, from an embryonic punk band to the masterful "new wave" act they became. From a shaky version of "Nazi Baby", through punk anthems "Baby Baby", "Keep It Clean" and "London Girls" you can hear the band grow in stature and power. The real highlight is the March 6, 1978 session, with its excellent rocking version of "Fall In Love" and the best recording the Vibes ever made of their masterpiece "Troops Of Tomorrow". After hearing this version on the John Peel show, the verion of "Troops" which made it onto "V2" was disappointing in comparison. I've always thought that this session was the Vibrators finest hour, this track their best ever recording. I waited 22 years for that single track to be released. Here it is, packaged in a set of rarities, classics and historical curiosities from a great band of an unforgettable era. Don't miss it!
