- Many people imagine that SLF's best live album was their most commercially successful ('Hanx'). This one is much better. One gets a very clear sense of the energy of the band live. The charisma of Jake Burns comes across equally well. They demonstrate clearly the interaction between group and audience which made them one of the best live acts of all time. The version of 'Gotta getaway' here is an all-time career high on that level. Although it features some of the same songs as the earlier 'Hanx' many of these have been reworked. After the disappointment of the 'No sleep til Belfast' live album this one shows the group back on track. A must for anyone interested in this band.

- A live set taken from near the end of the Bollweevils reign in the summer of 1995. The jacket art from the cover all the way down to the spine is an homage, parody, or just a plain swipe (whichever you prefer) of the Misfits' classic live album "Evilive." I dig all the songs here, classic Bollweevils. Like the live versions of most every rock song, it's nice to hear interpretations as performed in front of an audience, though the tunes are not as good as the studio versions appearing on the regular releases.
The most jarring point in the recording is the tracks "Bring Back Paul" and "The Fight!" capturing the band's comments and show-goer reaction to an altercation between friends of the band and the venue's bouncers. With no visual reference, the listener can't tell how bad the bouncers were roughing people up, but I don't think this is necessarily like the final scenes at Altamont Speedway in "Gimmie Shelter" either.
I also wouldn't be able to say of this is the Bollweevils at their best or their tightest live, but I suspect that this particular performance was chosen for the record, as it were, as the band's way of undercutting the credibility of the Metro and its then management for the disruption of the band's music and the audience's enjoyment of said music.
As the liner notes indicate the Metro would declare the Bollweevils banned for life after the show, even though vocalist Daryl states in no uncertain terms that due to the incidents they would never play there again anyway. Clearly you`ve got bridges being burned by both parties, and releasing "Evilive" gives the Bollweevils the last word on the subject.
Remember, this is the band's presentation of the evidence, but it is just their side of the story, while the other side doesn`t even get a rebuttal let alone a chance to tell their version of things; and the court of public opinion unfortunately doesn't always weigh matters equally.
Underground politics, scene rivalries, and reputation slandering aside, this is the Bollweevils and their live cuts are worth checking out, but I wonder what shows documenting the band at their tightest wound up in a metal can somewhere because we had to have the live recordings documenting that the Metro shouldn't have messed with the band or their friends.
- The Bollweevils are brillant. This excellent release captures these Chicago natives during an intense live show. Sound is top quality without a scratch and the bass is really heavy. These guys are blessed to have a great vocalist. There are periodic breaks between and during the songs: Security beating up the kids, fans fighting, and band stops. The sixteen songs here, show you how a great live show should be:Intense,Raw,and Fun. Finale is a fanTastic song.

- Having heard several live Fall albums, I can honestly say this is one of the best. The sound is great and, if not for the cheers in between songs, sounds like in-studio. The performance is outstanding. I'd especially like to cite the first song, "Australians in Europe." I usually shy away from eight-minute-long songs, but Mark's shriek (a la "Smile" and others) is in fine form, accentuated by a perfectly-timed delay effect. Stripped-down performances of all songs. Highly recommended.
Tracks are: 1. Australians In Europe 2. Shoulder Pads 3. Ghost In My House 4. Hey Luciani 5. Terry Waite Sez 6. Fiery Jack 7. Lucifer Over Lancs

3 comments about Live at the Ritz NYC (1986).
- I was at these shows, changed my life as a 17 year old. I have a beat up VHS of the clips they ran on MTV when Iggy hosted 120 Minutes. His band was tight, the track list exquisite.
- I WAS THE DJ/MD AT THE RITZ. IGGY ALWAYS RULES. THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF JUST THAT.
- My best friend Luke was one of the lucky ones,he was there in 1986 at the Ritz and was witness to what is, in my humble opinion, the greatest live performance in Rock&Roll history.I have been looking for a copy of IGGY POP'S live at the Ritz for over ten years and now thanks to Amazon.com and the internet I have found a truly breathtaking CD recorded in New York City. From the opening song,"I Got A Right" to the final song,IGGY and his group will blow you away with some of the coolest guitar riffs and rocking bass lines with a poppin' beat, and of course lyrics that speak volumes by the man himself. This CD is right up there with the greatest rock recordings from Led Zep,The Stones,Ozzy&Black Sabath and a few others that we all love. This CD has IGGY'S best tunes including some stooges stuff as well as the "Blah Blah Blah" songs wich were from his then latest album circa 1986.Any fan of Rock will love this CD,but for any hard-core IGGY POP fans this is truly a compilement of some of his finest work.I would highly recommend this CD to anyone. Although this is my personal favorite IGGY has some really great CD's that are all top notch music.Thanx Amazon for finding this awesome piece of music history...

2 comments about Extended Versions.
- This is the same concert as the "Columbia: Live at Missouri University", with one exception: it's only 10 of the 14 songs. Get the Columbia CD -- it's five stars.
What a rip off this is.
- It's called "Extended Versions" for some reason. Minimal packaging merely states "Recorded Live." There's no indication of where or when this concert took place, which is a pity. There isn't even a listing of personnel. But it's obviously from their career and/or performing height. A tight set of ten of their best songs. They sound fluid and organic and--best of all--confident, in front of what sounds like a small audience. Every track cooks, and surpasses its studio version. If you've never heard Big Star, this would be a perfect entry point. This early 70's band was out on a limb, looking for some Liverpool/Memphis/ Power Pop amalgamation, joined with the nakedness, the emotional directness, of their lyrics. Their instability, I hear, is legendary, so it's great to hear a live CD of them captured at their best--because there probably won't be any others.

- excellent , probably the best live performance available of the vibrators in the middle of the punk explosion in england. Incredible version of ''keep it clean'' with wild guitar feedback...great version of ''sex kick'' and ''he's a psycho''....definately the vibrators live album to own.
