  1. Everyone should buy it! I've been there that night (Muziekcentrum Vredenburg, Utrecht, 29 april 1997). It's a pity you can not hear the audience, it was in a small hall, only 1700 people who all were really wild, screaming, stagediving, crowdsurfing and so on. Damon had a cold, wasn't feeling well but you couldn't hear or see that, only when he was talking he had a voice even lower than he normally has. But he was jumping all around the stage and enthousiastic as never before. On this cd you can hear some songs of this perfect show. Dont' hesitate, just buy!

  2. Blur just cannot do something wrong. This is a great album of live versions from their last Lp. Do you wanna listen to an accelerated version of song2 or a Country Sad Ballad Man full of feelings? buy it

  3. Here's what you get: a superior version of "Country Sad Ballad Man" (of the 3 I own, I think this is the best), a decent rendition of "Song 2" and "M.O.R", a pretty good job at "On Your Own" and "Death of a Party" . . . all in all, if you liked the songs on "Blur", you'll like these, too.

  1. Alive

As Sex Pistols recordings go, this is well worth the money I spent on it. I highly recommend it.

  2. Double disc set of 26 studio and live recordings:
DISC ONE: [1] God Save The Queen [2] Pretty Vacant [3] Problems [4] Emi [5] Liar [6] New York [7] Anarchy In The UK [8] No Feelings [9] Submission [10] I Wanna Be Me [11] Seventeen [12] Satellite
DISC TWO (Live recordings): [1] Anarchy In The UK [2] Did you No Wrong [3] I'm A Lazy Sod [4] New York [5] Stepping Stone [6] Liar [7] Pretty Vacant [8] Suburban Kids [9] Submission [10] Substitute [11] No Feelings [12] Problems [13] Don't Give Me No Lip [14] No Fun

  3. I love the Sex Pistols. They are a very good group of musicians, and were at their best live. This CD contains two discs, one featuring live tracks, and another featuring demo versions of songs of "Nevermind....", and two previously unreleased tracks. The first disc, the studio tracks, is very good. It seem weird to hear my favorite songs in different forms. For example, "Anarchy in the UK" is much, much slower, and it's easier to make out the words for new fans. The only problem I found with this is the bad production, but that should be expected since these are demos. The live disc is good, but it isn't the greatest live recording. It's hard to make out what Rotten is saying, but they do some non-Pistols songs, like "Stepping Stone" by the Monkees, and that novelty alone is almost worth the admission. Overall, if you can listen to the production of "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, this CD should be no problem for anybody to listen to. I would reccomend this to any fan of the Pistols.

4 comments about In the Beginning (A Live Anthology) (Picture Disc).

  1. The first 6 songs are intense riot/punk stuff, live in 77,and they rule. The 7th song is "acoustic" though it features nothing but an acoustic guitar and dual Ari Up&Nina Hagen vocals. The "dub era" songs are downright boring and don't even sound like dub to me (at least in the reggae sense of the word).I guess the cd is OK for the first 6 tracks, just not exactly the best bang for the buck.

  2. There are two halves to this CD - one of the early, pre-Cut punk stuff, one of the later more overtly reggae/African influenced stuff. This is an accurate depicition of the band at these stages, full of irreverance and spastic musical joy. I love the Slits and saw them several times, this is more like what they were than any of their studio recordings manage to express.

  3. These live recordings are much more interesting than the studio versions. The "punk era" performances are best, the later versions are less exciting. Overall, a good introduction to the band. It's just a pity that Budgie doesn't appear.

  4. These live recordings of the slits are pretty awful, even by punk standards. The music plods and Ari, lead singer, sounds ghastly, like she doesn't know what to do with the mike. A very disappointing (& I would say exploitative) CD.

1 comments about Detours Live.

  1. Recorded on their 20th anniversary tour, Detours is a marvelous showcase of where Saga has been musically over the past two decades. Unlike other bands that have been around awhile, Saga performs tracks from throughout their career from their beginnings ("You're Not Alone") to their latest ("Welcome To The Zoo"). Of course, the big two are on this 2-disc package ("Wind Him Up" and "On The Loose") but so are really cool tracks like "Interview" and the acoustic version of "The Security of Illusion."

Soundwise, the performances on the package are among the best live recordings I've ever heard and banter with the audience isn't played down. In other words, you could very well be listening to a live broadcast happening at this very moment.

On the negative side, do we really need a hidden drum solo at the end of disc 2? Also, a number of times during audience participation, the house mikes are either not turned up all the way or not even there. At least twice singer/keyboardist Michael Sadler seems to be talking to himself.

Yet, those two minor points aside, this 22-song set is a perfect jumping on point for those whose knowledge of Saga began and ended with "Worlds Apart." Additionally, both CD's are enhanced with video (concert) footage of "Pitchman" and "The Intermission." This is a great package and a must-have.

  1. Like most of the reviewers before me, we admit that this is not the best Bad Brains Live CD if you only consider the audience size and participation, production, etc. But when you listen to the raw energy of the band, the individual and combined musical performances by each member(much better than the "Youth are getting restless")and the song selections...you will understand and experience the true Bad Brains at their best.

HR seemed to be inspired during his vocal performances on their classics, and Dr. Know's guitar solos are sonically stratospheric.

On an artistic level, comparing their two live CDs are just like comparing Picasso to Leonardo. Both are creative geniuses, however Leornado is technically proficent where Picasso's work seems raw and more emotional. I believe the "Live" CD is true raw perfection where the "Youth Are Getting Restless" is obviously more polished.

I had this on cassette and fnally found a copy on CD...it is in my permanent rotation! Get it now!!!

  2. Bad Brains have to have been at this time, the tightest band I have ever heard play live (which I did on numerous occasions 1988-1993). And this recording captures their tight, high energy performances perfectly.

While I like "Youth Are Getting Restless", I think this recording better captures the sound and fury of the "I Against I" era of Bad Brains (my favorite point in their career). This is one of my top 3 personal favorite live recordings....it definately does the band justice !

  3. This is a really good cd, it shows the Bad Brains could play great concerts in front of little crowds. The songs are all good choices, and sound even better than the album versions. My personal favorite is I and I Survive. H.R.'s voice is really energetic on songs like At The Movies and Secret 77. This was of a concert from around 1988, when they were really into metal. Bad Brains were original, and you can hear their performing talent.

  4. This is a really great "Bad Brains" album, with a good live performance, and even better song selection. Included is "Right Brigade", "I Against I", "Re-Ignition", and the cover of "Day Tripper". I could listen to this punk reggae forever. But, even though this and "Spirit Electricity" are great live albums, neither is as good as "The Youth Are Getting Restless". That's 17 tracks of furious perfection. Too bad they don't play like it anymore.

  5. bad brains what a great band here is sum of their songs recorded live in 84 i think. the album is great not as hard core as the usual but great for being done live.
