  1. If you've ever seen Dwight live he puts on a fantastic show. I rarely like live albums, but I do this one. Well worth the money and adding to your collection. Some great cuts on a wide variety of songs, that showcase Dwight's talent.

  2. Dwight's version of "Suspicious Minds" would even make the Big E proud.

  3. Even if you have his greatest hits, the Reprise box set, or albums containing the studio versions of these songs, this live album is STILL a MUST. The energy and musicianship, not mention Dwight's own incomparable vocals, are fantatsic. And there are great live versions of songs you can't find anywhere else, like Rocky Road Blues, Fast As You, Long White Cadillac, Two Doors Down and more. Whether you're just now catching on to the genius and talent of DY's music, or are already a fan with lots of his albums, this is one you won't regret owning. It'd certainly one of my top 3 favorites.

  4. This live album is a disappointment. Dwight Yoakam's
best studio work has crystal clear sound (vocals and
    instruments) and lively energetic arrangements.
Unfortunately, Dwight never seems to get in the
groove during the concert[s] and his performance
is lackluster. Another disappointment is that the
sound quality is poor, even for a live album. The
redeeming qualities are the choice of some of his
best songs and his band is in good shape. Standouts
are "Lonesome Roads" and "A Thousand Miles From
    Nowhere."

  5. Dwight Yoakam may be the most underappreciated of contemporary artists. He has, from day one, been catergorized as a country artist, but whether he's doing country, western, bluegrass, blues, soul, or just good ole rock and roll, it's just pure Dwight. He has an ability to merge musical styles and make things his own, like that of a Ray Charles or an Otis Redding. And music aside, he may be the best lyric writer in any genre'. Unlike most country artists, whose live outings seem to be packaged, over produced, virtual replicas of their recordings, Yoakam does as great soul artists do. He takes his songs and his great band to inspiring new heights. His version of "Lonesome Roads" oozes soul, far outdoing the original, and has brilliant work by the extremely underrated guitarist, Pete Anderson and fiddle wonder, Scott Joss. The band's tight work on "Long White Cadillac" becomes an orgasmic jam with all the excitement of a Booker T. & the MGs workout. At first listen, a casual Yoakam fan may not appreciate its greatness. But this may be, aside from perhaps either of his two greatest hits collections, the quintessential Dwight Yoakam album.

  1. I've got this on vinyl, and it's on my turntable right now actually. It's the same album as the CD that's available, no more or less song-wise, and I really like it, and recommend it. If you get it on vinyl there's an interesting note from Shane that I'm not sure would be in the sleeve for the CD. The first three sessions are with Beki Bondage as vocalist and the last four tracks, from a session in 1984 on the David "Kid" Jensen show have Lia singing. Each session is about four to five tracks, and the band's sound changes a little each session.

1 comments about Live: Anthology.

  1. Basically a compilation of three live albums: Ballroom Blitz - Live at the Lyceum (CD1), Live at Newcastle (CD2. 1-10), & School Bullies (CD2, 11-18). Punk music is all about the attitude and energy, and a live album is therefore the only real way to listen to these tracks. This album doesn't disappoint in that regard: CD 2 includes the concert staple "Sensible's a wanker" chant from the audience along with some other gems. Some sections aren't a continuous recording (the 10 track Live at Newcastle CD was trimmed from a longer version of the same album) but fades are used to make this not too noticeable. Great CD, you're getting 3 albums so you can't go wrong.

  1. l.e.s. stitches in my opinion are one of the best live punk bands around today. their singer mick is full of energy and after catching two of their shows they are the real deal. i saw them two nights ago play to at least 15 people at a tiny bar and saw them two years ago open for the u.s. bombs at a huge club and guess what... 15 people or 1,500 people these guys still give the same energetic performance each time! mick was up dancing on the bar, singing/flirting with girls and througout each song interacted with the crowd (he took my friends hat off and ran around with it on)not to many bands that aren't you're average local bands do that anymore like mick does. also i shouldn't forget to mention that mick and the rest of the guys (curt, damien, kid blanks)are great guys! let me also take some time to ... ... ...! johnny rotten NEVER EVER has enteracted with a crowd and rarely left the stage at his sets because he was to afraid of messing up his clothing and ego. by throwing promo cds out there makes you a rock star? rock stars would charge you $15 for those promos but they are giving them out...something that most indie bands do (bouncing souls have done this a few times at shows i've seen-btw...l.e.s. hasn't stolen anything from the souls and both are great bands and nice in person!)but i guess all rock stars like the l.e.s stitches still are working at their everyday jobs and earning a paycheck and not making a living off the road...right? l.e.s. are still your everyday average group of guys with everyday people jobs and not to mention one ... of a live band so everyone should check them out when they hit you're town and check out their other 3 cds (their latest one, lower east side is amazing and in my opinion one of the best punk rock albums in a very long time)support this band because they truly are one of the best around!

  2. les stitches sadly believe they are a quality punk band. I had the misfourtune of sitting through their set about two weeks ago, perhaps thee most cliche band, ever. They are so typical and bland.

cliche acts they did while onstage:

    1. singer tried too hard to be Johnny Rotten 2. singer constantly cursed, in a sad attempt to sound "punk rock" 4. offered no words of interest while onstage 5. they all acted like rockstars, throwing promo cd's into the tiny crowd, are you kidding me?

Jeez, this band is an embarassment. They also seem to lift a lot of riffs from Bouncing Souls, which is a great band, unlike LES. No creativity, no room for growth, just nothing.,,,there are so many more bands that do it better, which is why LES don't leave NYC on tour too often.

  3. its a cool cd and a good band, but the recording is kinda low quality but its something new so check it out..

4 comments about Australia Tour EP 2002.

  1. From the uninspired CD name, to having tracks 2 and 3 switched, to having the final track spelled differently than the original, to being a live CD without an audience, this is one oddball CD. The Pernice Bros were already unplugged enough, their sound did not need further mellowing. Even soft instruments like pianos and strings are ditched in favor of acoustic guitars, and the music suffers as a result. Get their excellent World Won't End and Yours... CD's instead.

  2. This EP includes songs from the Pernice Brothers' Overcome By Happiness and The World Won't End CDs. For the most part these songs are similar to the original recordings except with less instrumentation. "All I Know" is sans piano and adds acoustic guitars which give it a more cheerful (or slightly less depressing at least) sound. A sort of bar room sing/mope along version.. I would buy it for that track only, plus "Dimmest Star" has some great electric guitar which stands out more on this version than on the original. This CD is a good introduction to the Pernice Brothers music if you are hesitant on buying their full length CDs or are unsure which to start with.

  3. Joe Pernice writes some of the most gorgeous pop melodies of all time and his band continues to provide great support. This EP, featuring new recordings of songs from the first two Pernice Brothers albums ("Dimmest Star" and "All I Know" from 'Overcome by Happiness' and "Flaming Wreck", "Cronulla Breakdown", and "Bright Side" from 'The World Won't End') continues true to form. These songs were recorded in January of 2002 (in Brooklyn, NY) to celebrate/promote the Australia Tour of 2002 in support of the terrific 'World Won't End' cd. They're fairly stripped down, subdued versions performed by Joe with Thom Monahan, Peyton Pinkerton, and Ben Wheelock. Those familiar with the songs already will enjoy the presentation of the songs provided on this EP--particularly the version of "Flaming Wreck" and "Bright Side" which are, IMO, superior to the originals. A must purchase for Pernice Brothers' fans and a worthy purchase for any wise soul looking for great pop music. Nobody does it better in the 21st century. Highly Recommended.

  4. i picked this up under the impression that it had all new songs, but it turned out to be mostly other versions of songs off the 'world won't end' album. nevertheless, this is essential listening for any pernice brothers fan, as it includes gorgeously restrained live-in-the-studio versions that add quite a new angle to the original album recordings. i don't have my other pernice bros cds handy here so i can't check for their tracklistings, but i'm pretty sure this also includes two new (and great) songs.
