  1. Flipper is god--god is Flipper. There is no other band past, present or future that can/will replicate Flipper. A genre unto themselves Flipper transends all that is rock and all that is punk. They deconstructed and reconstructed and laughed at themselves and everyone else in the process and unlike most of their punk peers at the time, there is no underlining political agenda, in fact there is no agenda at all. This recording here captures the band in all their drunken stupor and is probably the best live document from the post-punk era. There is not a weak moment here and Flipper will drain you mixing rock and punk in a volatile combustable droned out molatov cocktail. Flipper is a love em or hate em situation. Enuff said---droned out , fuzzed out feedback laden and drunk off their gords, Flipper are the true kings of oblivion get it now and long live Will Shatter(R.I.P)

  2. Flipper is not your conventional sound. Its music is characterized by a superficial texture of raw music filled with the passion for the love of the music. Underneath this surface, the anger of a lost generation boils through.

  3. Flipper once again out does itself with all of the great, rockin' hits we've grown to love. From simple, straight forward grinding riffs to snarling memorable vocals, this album becomes a must get to all who love screaming and thrashing. A great album to rip your hair out too.

  4. Essential live documentation of this unique West Coast Hardcore phenomenon. Bass and drums lay down simple riffs, a vocalist spits sarcastic defiance at the audience and the guitarist improvises a firestorm of distortion and feedback unparalleled since the Velvets 'Sister Ray'. Grinding, repetitive and remarkably addictive, Flipper are guaranteed to wash your blues right down the drain . . along with the rest of your mind!

5 comments about Lou Reed Live.

  1. The music from this CD was recorded during the same concert from which Rock 'N' Roll Animal was taken. Lesser known songs, but great musicianship. Fans should have this.

  2. Yes, it's from the same show that produced the peerless ROCK AND ROLL ANIMAL, but there's a reason it wasn't released as a double album along with that classic. R&RA is non-stop killer and this one just isn't. It isn't bad in itself; it's just that the bathos effect is, well, in effect. Heck, there isn't even a live shot on the cover so you don't get another gander at Lou's black fingernail polish. Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter are, of course quite awesome. But after all these years, I still wonder: is that Lester Bangs bellowing "LOU REED SUCKS!!!" after Sad Song?

  3. Warning this overpriced import IS released domestically as Lou Reed Extended Versions. This CD is the second half of the Rock N Roll Animal show but not as compelling. Just friendly advice from one Lou Reed fan who paid $40.00 for an import when I walked in the next day into a gas station to see Lou Reed - Extended Versions took it home and found out the hard way it is the same exact CD...same master too!! Buyer Beware hope you find this helpful.

  4. Get Rock n Roll animal 1st !
That is a god rocking album sent from heaven
When you know every lick, then get this.... its like the bonus CD

Don't get me wrong - its good, darn good - theres just an even better one out there.

  5. As noted many times before, this is the rest of the show that produced "Rock N Roll Animal". Lou is in good voice and the band is still presenting things with an intense arena style sound.
Here the emphasis is on his solo material with only one Velvet's song in the mix and the difference between the material is glaring. The solo work is much weaker than the Velvet covers, but the performance of it more than saves the day.
Recommended to lovers of "R-N-R Animal" for the rest of the story.

  1. Hearing these versions of Token Of Your Love and Teenage Dream makes you wish there were more "live" T. Rex available from this era. These two songs alone are worth the price. A video of this gig would have been great to see.

  2. Interesting capture of T Rex live, with mediocre sound quality. Often times the crowd overpowers Marc and the band, but great song selection and energy overcomes some of this. Good addition for folks who already own most of the catalogue.

  3. While these live shows do not represent T. Rex at its 1971-1973 peak, the disc is a great piece of history--1) it is one of Marc Bolan's only live discs 2) the main CD is of the final tour of Marc's life, while his career was finally on the upswing again and he was sounding great, just months before the fatal car crash. Docked one star simply because the sound has a few glitches. Had he lived, Bolan would have made far more of an impact in the U.S. than he did. This release shows he had assembled a great group of musicians again (some who had played with Bowie) and still had the genius songwriting spark.

  4. Nothing can top hearing Marc Bolan & T.Rex live, except that is... Marc Bolan & T.Rex LIVE!
But as that (sadly) is never to be again, the next best thing is LIVE recordings of the King of Glam/Bopping Elf/Godfather of Punk.
This Cd ROCKS! Great quality, when you think that in 1977 the technical equipment was NOTHING like it is today!
Bolan's unique (and very often COPIED vocal style - Bono:U2 amongst them), reverberates deliciously thru both discs.
The music is pure Bolan Boogie/Bop/Rock.
Its very easy to see the Legacy Bolan has imprinted on Popular music, as even today his style has transgressed time and space. His original sound, as is proved by the countless covers, is as actual now as it was in the 70's. Check out the recent & excellent "(Bang A Gong)Get It On" covers by the likes of LONDON BUS STOP or NATURAL BORN HIPPIES, garanteed to get your bones shakin'!
T.REX fan or not, "Marc Bolan & T.Rex Live 1977" is NOT just a Blast From The Past, but a Top actual account of how Timeless-Music should be played!!!
Go out & buy this one, and let your kids hear it too!
    Allan-Michael

  5. This Live T Rex CD must rate at one of the worst live performances ever recorded. All the eliments people love about Bolan and T Rex are missing. The nice guitar riffs are lost and the Bolan voice is particularly not good . I even asked myself if it was really him singing. No, he didn't try too hard that night, did he? He couldn't have known he was being recorded and that it was going to be released. He would never have alowed it out.A total [upset]. Save your money and buy some of his studio material

5 comments about Show.

  1. one of my favorite albums of the cure... lots of great songs live... better than bootleg quality and was in my town dtown detroit michigan

  2. Often compared unfavorably to Paris, Show is a fantastic collection of performances from the Wish tour.
Robert Smith created a guitar heavy sound by loading this touring band with extra players and the overall effect is a wall of elegant chaos. From the opening, swirling, chords of 'Open' to the closing feedback frenzy of 'End' 'Show' is more of an experience than rock show.

My favorite track is the protracted version 'Pictures of You'; it's sweeping and elegant, evoking dark and ominous emotions I've rarely experienced listening to music.

Highly recommended but, then again, you'll find I say that about the entire Cure package

  3. This is a great live album, with an exceptional sound quality.

The Cure have always been known to put on a good live performance and here is the proof. The album starts off with Tape, an instrumental, which blends into Open, the first song off of the classic album Wish. This blending of songs never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and sets the standard for the rest of the gig.

Much of the content of this gig is from the Wish album as this was recorded during the Wish Tour in 1992. It's great to hear live versions of songs such as Cut, From The Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Trust, Doing the Unstuck and End, as well as older classics such as A Night Like This and Never Enough.

The only criticisms I have of this live album are that there are too many 'singles.' I am not a fan of the Cures singles and have grown bored of listening to Friday I'm In Love, Lets Go To Bed, Inbetween Days, Lullaby, High and The Walk. Show has one too many singles and this makes the difference between a 4 and a 5 star rating. This is to be expected though as the Cure are unfortunately more widely known as being a 'singles band.'

Another unfortunate thing about the live album is that it is not the complete gig. The DVD / Video contains the 5 song encore: Primary, Boys Don't Cry, Why Can't I Be You, To Wish Impossible Things and A Forest.

The extended version of A Forest yet again showcases the Cure line-up of Smith, Gallup, Thompson, Williams and Bamonte as a well oiled machine. This is by far the best version of A Forest I have ever heard and ends the gig on a stratospheric high note. Robert improvises lyrics and this is followed by Porl Thompson's agressive guitar work bringing the song to an intense crescendo. A work of true artists. Just a pity its not included on the cd.

A great live cd, documenting the best Cure line-up in their prime.

  4. I think including songs like The Love Cats, or any older Cure, would have ruined the melancholy mood of this concert completely. Obviously he's one of those "you're not a real fan unless you like their old stuff" kinda guys. Well I think the Cure did their best work from Head On the Door through Wish. I mean, their old stuff is awesome too, but in a different way. I've been a long time Cure fan, and Wish is my favorite album, and since this concert took place shortly after Wish was released, you could only expect them to focus mainly on those songs. Wish's lyrics are amazing if you've ever bothered to really read through them, so how can you criticize songs like From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Cut or End? They're great songs. In fact, I think the song that could have been cut from here was Friday I'm In Love; I've just never been a fan. Replace that with Apart and it's a perfect concert. The biggest improvement is in A Night Like This---the guitar solo instead of the sax solo makes it a whole new song. If you're like me and Wish and Disintegration are your favorite Cure albums, you owe it to yourself to check out this live performance, it rocks.

  5. Some reviewers might think it's edgy -or that it makes for good writing- to insult a body of work as heavy-handedly as the editorial reviewer for amazon.com did.

But now that the uninformed, self-righteous bunk is all over-- let's go ahead and tell the truth about this amazing live performance. Please keep in mind that I usually *hate* concert recordings....

With regard to the "disposable product" comment, all I have to say is this: a friend gave me this album for my birthday in 1994. I have listened to it more than once a week for a decade.

In other words, it stayed interesting through middle school, high school, college, and my first year of marriage. I listened to it this morning. I'm still finding new things to love about this album. And last time I looked, there wasn't a Fat Bob in sight.

If you love music that melds ethereal, mellow, Gibson archtop sound (a characteristic of classic New Order and Smiths) with driving pop rhythm-- buy Show. If you want a great CD for long car trips, buy it. If you want to stay calm in DC traffic at rush hour.... you get the idea.

A host of beautiful but not so well-known songs is offered with a few safe hits for good measure. If you're bored with overplayed Cure, this is a refreshing experience. If you just want the hits, well... this album is a great tool for broadening your taste. Don't ever settle for just the greatest hits.

And don't worry. Show isn't just for die-hard fans. I learned to love this band working my way back from it. I wasn't the only one.... my parents, who are 60, discovered them as well.

If you buy this performace in any format, you will not be disappointed.

  1. I don't have the greatest stereo in my car to begin with, but I can't listen to this album at all in my car. The audio is terrible. For GG fans and collectors that would like to just sit down and listen to it, go ahead and buy it. There's some really cool stuff on this one... especially on the live audio and some freestyle stuff he does at the end.

To sum it up: Collectors go ahead and buy it. Just don't plan on jamming to it because the audio sucks.

  2. Okay, this recording has some of the greatest songs GG Allin has EVER recorded. The trouble is, the music sounds like its been put through a meat grinder. No real GG Allin fan expects good sound quality ripping through the speakers along with GG's toothless growl, but its nice when you can actually HEAR the music. It's just intolerable. Or maybe I just got spoiled listening to Hated in the Nation 700 times in a row first.By the way, Hated in the Nation is probably the best GG Album you can get, next to... Drunks and Junkies, followed closely by Brutality and Bloodshed for all. Hated in the Nation, FFD and J, and B and B for all are MUST HAVE'S for ANY GG fan, or anyone who can laugh at the sick, depraved, disgusting and violent. Also recommended to parents of Goth children. At least you're kids haven't found GG yet!!!

  3. to me, this, along with "antisocial personality disorder-live" and "brutality and bloodshed for all", is essential gg allin...i am not a big fan of his ealier stuff..there is something missing from that. it may just be the fact that he sounds like he should be singing for bad religion on a lot of that stuff, or it may be the music itself...i don't know...but here and on the ones that i mentioned earlier, you get the animal...

never before, and possibly, never again will a person be able to put all of his anger and frustration into the form of a voice...there are times when he hardly seems human(which may be because he was too trashed to remember the words and simply growls along, who knows with gg)...

if you are on this page then you are either a fan or, at least, have heard the stories and legends...if you fall into the latter category, grab this album and find out what all of the fuss is about...if it is too raw for you, that is ok, it will be for most...but,on the off chance, that it strikes a chord with you....look into more of his stuff...

  4. The first twelve cuts on this CD comprise the '93 Fastlane show from Asbury Park, NJ, and is, without a doubt, one of G.G.'s best efforts. Certainly it is his most emotional. Here, he not only thanks his band for sticking with him while he was incarcerated up in Michigan, he even tells the audience that they were "cool" for coming out to see him! That's a first and only.

Obviously the Murder Junkies, G.G.'s last and best band, spent a lot of time practicing, for I've never heard them play better. This recording also contains one of G.G.'s great speeches, touching on the Lolapalooza Tour and related matters.

As for the music, well, if you've never heard G.G. Allin, this is the CD to start with. Extreme versions of "Bite It You Scum" and eleven other tunes that put everybody to shame, from Metallica and those lame poser metalheads, all the way through soft rock, punk rock, folk rock, and any other kind of music you can think of.

This CD proves the obvious once again: two and two is four, water is wet, and G.G. is the only true rock 'n' roller.

5 comments about Metallic K.O. 2xCD.

  1. Performance art at its most decadent, the 2-CD set chronicles the destruction of The Stooges and the fall of Iggy (Pop) Stooge from personal demons.

Bolstered with additional material, this infamous live "bootleg" from more than 30 years ago was initially only available as an import album.

The two concerts chronicled - October 1973 and the band's final gig in February 1974 - is a sonic implosion due to any number of issues. The end is near, as a crazed Iggy implores the raucous crowd to throw more ice, eggs, beer bottles and jelly beans. The band limps along with muzak, sounding the closing chords for a wild ride that had gone so wrong.

This is all too real....and dangerous when breaking glass is the soundscape.

  2. The band is killing it and Iggy's between song banter is hilarious. This kinda stuff just doesn't happen at shows anymore.

Unless, of course, it's a Mighty High show. Check out Mighty High...In Drug City.

  3. It's fun to hear the Spinal Tap moments where he baits the crowd (once), but this was a so-so night for Iggy and Co. After slogging through a half a dozen similar CD's, it's clear that these guys got a lot of help in the studio.People who like the legendary rep of this disc would do better to just buy the tee shirt.

  4. This is basically a legitimized bootleg album so the sound quality isn't the best. It is however, a landmark in Rock 'n' Roll/Punk history. The Ig did in fact issue a public challenge to a local M/C club, but it was the Scorpions and not the Angels. Turns out that one of the Scorpions jumped on stage at the Rock 'n' Roll Farm the week before and punched Iggy in the face, but enough of that. This is history, if you're a collector and a punk, get this 'cause you'll dig it. Cut it a little slack and remember the times (and the old Michigan Palace...what a great place to see a show that was). This isn't a listen to all the time type of recording, it's a historical document that needs to be appreciated for what it is. If you are the type that can't do this, this one's not for you. If you're from Detroit and you don't have it...I think it may be a felony. All others check local laws before ordering.

  5. I have only been listening to the Stooges for maybe 4 or 5 months. I first purchased Raw Power and then The Stooges and Funhouse. This band is great and I was looking for more to listen to so I turned to this. When I first heard this yesterday, I was blown away. Though the mix is God awful, the energy and power that made the studio albums so great is definatly present in this. If you LOVE the Stooges and Iggy Pop and you are looking for more, I recommend this, but only if you REALLY want more. If your not that into the Stooges than this is NOT for you. O and if you only like The Stooges and Funhouse and don't like Raw Power (because the music is a little different), then you probably won't like this.

    And Iggy's comments are funny.
