1. Don't bother. This is basically the same "No Way Out But Forward Go" live show, but without the second disc of video from the show. Skip it and get that two disc "No Way Out..." re-issue.



2. Shoulda recognized the track order I suppose, but for the price I won't beat myself up too much. It's a nice cover photo of mid-80's KJ, but spend the cash on No Way Out But Forward Go, instead. The packaging on that is [bad], but you get to watch the performance on video, too.

1. this is the recording where I recognized Jeffrey Lee Pierce was getting his Hendrix on and fully emerging from the shadows of the other guitar players previously tied to him. and in a lot of ways, this new sound changed the focus of the band. the dirty swamp rock and blues, the hoodoo, got replaced by many epic, heroin=laced and magesterial mainlines to oblivion. The howl grew starker and longer, the cry sadder. The fast ones, as time wore on, began to sound clumsy, unfocused and missplaced. Pierce no longer needed the agitation. The pain had been located. The evolution of dissipation ultimately led to the strung-out imaginings of hollowed out ghosts haunting bars in post-war Vietnam in "Lucky Jim." That, like the discovery of Kurtz at the end of "Apocalypse Now," is the final evidence that, in the end, there was nothing but miserable, wasteful death. And, sometimes, it may appear beautiful.

1. The music from this CD was recorded during the same concert from which Rock 'N' Roll Animal was taken. Lesser known songs, but great musicianship. Fans should have this.



2. Yes, it's from the same show that produced the peerless ROCK AND ROLL ANIMAL, but there's a reason it wasn't released as a double album along with that classic. R&RA is non-stop killer and this one just isn't. It isn't bad in itself; it's just that the bathos effect is, well, in effect. Heck, there isn't even a live shot on the cover so you don't get another gander at Lou's black fingernail polish. Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter are, of course quite awesome. But after all these years, I still wonder: is that Lester Bangs bellowing "LOU REED SUCKS!!!" after Sad Song?



3. Warning this overpriced import IS released domestically as Lou Reed Extended Versions. This CD is the second half of the Rock N Roll Animal show but not as compelling. Just friendly advice from one Lou Reed fan who paid $40.00 for an import when I walked in the next day into a gas station to see Lou Reed - Extended Versions took it home and found out the hard way it is the same exact CD...same master too!! Buyer Beware hope you find this helpful.



4. Get Rock n Roll animal 1st !
   That is a god rocking album sent from heaven
   When you know every lick, then get this.... its like the bonus CD
   
   Don't get me wrong - its good, darn good - theres just an even better one out there.



5. As noted many times before, this is the rest of the show that produced "Rock N Roll Animal". Lou is in good voice and the band is still presenting things with an intense arena style sound.
   Here the emphasis is on his solo material with only one Velvet's song in the mix and the difference between the material is glaring. The solo work is much weaker than the Velvet covers, but the performance of it more than saves the day.
   Recommended to lovers of "R-N-R Animal" for the rest of the story.

1. This was the first Dickies album I ever listened to, and it hooked me. This particular set includes all of the classics "trisha toyota", "If stewart could talk", "the banna splits theme", Simon & Garfunkle "Eve of Destruction" and "pretty please me". The live energy is overflowing, the talk with the crowd hightens the enjoyment. the sound mixing is not too bad either. This band never took themselves to seriously (possibly why more kids don't mention them as oftern as the clash or the sex pistols today), but it was all for the good of us. Pick this album up if you want some old school punk served the way it should be, LIVE, FAST, AND LOUD.
