- Buy This! Groovy!I met Dez Cadena, and he was in a bad moOd,but if I woulda known earlier that he was the singer of D.C.3,I would've kissed him Passionately.Another Marky story for Steve: Marky brought up this band, and didn't believe I'd ever heard of them, he sang some of their stuff and I said Yeah! That's the band that made Annihilator Vol. 1 come alive.Best guitar riffs and trippy rock and enthusiastic joyous lYrics ever.

- Been a Ramones fan for decades saw them numerous times in the 70's, 80's and their last tour. This is simply a great album for what it is. I loved "spiderman", Joey was born to sing it. This cd is worth it's weight in gold just for that song alone. Some Ramones' collections are just too long, unlike the original albums, so it's nice to throw in the cd player this disc, hear some great songs in a digestable fashion. The Ramones weren't about overkill, that just wanted to knock you down right away! This album also really shows how tight these guys were live. Definitely get it.
- I was also at this amazing show at the Academy. Wish the entire set was on the CD. There was crew filming the show that night. Has anyone seen this on video anywhere?
- The Ramones Greatest Hits Live is a cd everyone should own. The Ramones can play their songs slow/fast or not at all and still rock. Although I liked many more of their songs played slower (earlier albums) I still enjoyed every minute of this album.
- This show was great, I was there and it was the best Ramones show I ever saw. Its just to bad so many tunes did not make it on.
- I was lucky that I got this disc as a gift, so I didn't waste any money on it. It rates one star only because zero isn't an option. Buy ANY other Ramones disc; get this one only if you're trying to complete your collection. Trust me, the Ramones never sounded worse than they do on "Greatest Hits Live".

- I think that this is a really good buy for a dead milkmen fan. This CD is great, the dead milkmen live from the peak of there performace. I love the way that they change the lyrics and they get the crowd into it, almost makes you feel like you were there
- I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this CD. Having seen the DM live 3 times, I knew that their live show isn't exactly always sonically impressive.
Look at it this way- Pink Floyd and the other bloated 'quad-sound-only' live-acts can sleep soundly at night. That said, the performances captured on this CD are VERY energetic, and the song selection is pretty much spot-on. I agree with the previous review - if this is your first DM CD, I would start with, say, "Big Lizard" or "Beezelbubba" (as with any group, it's never a good idea to start with a live-album). For all DM fans, however, this is a GREAT, worthy purchase.
- I like the Dead Milkmen, so I like this cd, but if you've never heard them, try their studio stuff first. This cd probably won't win over too many new fans. Try Beezlebubba, Bucky Fellini, or Richard, Not Dick or whatever it's called. (if you can find it) Anyway, back to THIS cd. It has sort of a raw production, but not so raw that it sounds completely bad. Some well known songs are performed like "Punk Rock Girl" and "Bitchin Camaro". This show was recorded during the Beelzebubba tour, I assume, because there are no songs that came out after that on this cd. There is a hidden track at the end. You'll find a live version of "If I Had A Gun". If you're already a DM fan, this cd is for you. If you're not familiar, get a studio cd first.

5 comments about Farewell: Live from the Universal Amphitheatre.
- They were just a joy and delight, and certainly one of the best live acts of the '80s and '90s. I only give this farewell perfomance 4 stars, because I would have given anything for a live version of "Elevator Man." But if you never saw them live, or if you did, and miss them like crazy, don't deprive yourself of this CD (or the DVD). They went out at their fierce, funny, joyful best.
- I used to go to Boingo every Hollween-- I'd still be going if they were still jamming. I went to the last show at the Meadows (which was the est place to see them)-- and I had the pleasure of being at the very last show at the Universal Amphitheatre-- I remember the last show being alot longer (like 4 hours)-- But hey this CD is great! If your a fan you'll get some goose bumps.
- Samual noted that this album contains one song, "Water" not available elsewhere. There are actually four songs.
"Water" was actually the easiest song of the four to obtain. It was recorded for an album, but never released. However, bootlegs of the studio recording are pretty common.
"Burn Me Up" and "Piggies" were introduced during the 1994 tour, after the last album was recorded. "Burn Me Up" is pretty much a throw-away- it might have been better if the horn parts had actually been played by the horns instead of on keyboard. The '94 tour had no horns, so I suspect they just didn't have time to learn the new songs for this brief Farewell tour.
"Piggies" is a little better- it proves that Elfman had been listening to a lot of Primus at the time. (Priums themselves were playing a piece of Elfman music from Pee Wee's Big Adventure before their shows the same year, and Elfman mentions this on the PWBA DVD.)
But the big get here is "Clowns Of Death". This song MAY pre-date the 1994 tour, but I'm not aware of any studio versions. (OB sometimes played secret shows under the name "Clowns Of Death") This is one of my favorites of OBs heavier material.
Along with those tracks, the album contains 3 songs which have never been released on CD- "I'm So Bad" and "Ain't This The Life" from their debut EP, and "Helpless", which appeared only on the cassette version of their final album. And, as mentioned, the live version of "Change" is a great improvement, turning the meandering 16 minute mess of the studio version into one of my favorite OB tunes.
- This isn't just a "best-of" collection or "useless compilation" like the person below me says, it's the final show EVER of the almighty Oingo Boingo, making this more of a historical artifact. If that seems a bit extreme to say it's because I really believe Elfman and company to be musical geniuses who were never really given their due or much respect at all. Why? Just because they were quirky and (God forbid) FUN?! Get this cd and the DVD of the show as well to get the full experience of what these guys were like live. I would give almost anything to have been there for this show, but at least I have this great sounding cd to listen to for all time. Boingo STILL rule!
- Oingo Boingo had more compilations than any band has a right to and they all suck. Godawful songs like "Wild Sex In The Working Class", "No Spill Blood", "Piggies", "Sweat", "Grey Matter", "Little Girls", "Insects", and "Nasty Habits" ruin this one along with the necessities and marginal filler. This is one group where choosing the highlights should be easy. OK so you have to choose the overused and rather bland "Dead Man's Party", the fun "Wierd Science", and classics "Who Do You Want To Be?" and "Only A Lad". From there you pick "Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me", "Winning Side", "Gratitude", "Stay", "Just Another Day", "No One Lives Forever", "Help Me", "Only Makes Me Laugh", "On The Outside", "Wake Up, It's 1984", and "Same Man I Was Before". From the new direction you can choose from "Where Do All My Friends Go?", "My Life", "New Generation", and "Home Again" from Boi-Ngo and the first 3 songs and maybe some others from Boingo might be OK to fill out the CD. Easy!!!

4 comments about Sweatbox: Spoken Word 1987-1988.
- SPOKEN WORD AT ITS BEST. ITS LIKE, MY STORIES ARE IN NEED OF A RE-EDIT AFTER LISTENING TO THIS STUFF. AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS ARE ROLLINS PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT AN APPEARANCE ON LETTERMAN MIGHT BE LIKE FOR HIM....YOU WANT SOME ENTERTAINMENT, COME IN AND BURN...COMMENTS WELCOME AT nick82e@hotmail.com
- Yet another record whose full enjoyability is hampered by poor sound quality, "Sweatbox" is a damn fine collection of spoken word otherwise. Get this record for three of the best bits Rollins has ever done: "Getting Home", "Running/Crawling" and the momentous "Blueprints for the Destruction of Earth". Blueprints is Rollins' groundbreaking (window, bone, concrete, mountain-breaking) rant that spits in the face of all political correctness and whiny tiptoeing around hot-button issues. Is he kidding? Maybe. Is it funny? DEFINITELY.
"Getting Home" is fast-paced, well-written, and a hilariously funny description of all the tribulations Rollins suffered while attempting to get home from a particularly difficult tour. I saw him re-visit the piece last year, and it lacked the same power and humor, it being several years after the actual event. Other standout bits include "Sex Ed", "Friction" and "Late Night Phone Blues". Rollins is more than a funnyman, he is also one of the spokesmen for the disenfranchised young. Like Jello Biafra, Henry hears from youth whose parents can't/don't wish to deal with them, people who have had hard roads to follow, and can identify with the man they hear on the records. Henry leads his listeners from laughter to thought, to self-examination (never pretty), and back to laughter again. You finish one of these cds feeling spent, worn out, because you cannot listen to what Rollins says without having it change you a little bit each time.
- Seriously. The only reason this cd gets only four stars is because of the sound quality. Mr. Rollins is one helluva storyteller, and he's got lots of tales to spin... after you've listened to this or any of his other spoken word stuff, you'll feel as though you know the guy. and you'll probably want his job, too. this stuff will make you laugh, and then he hits you with something that makes you ponder existence... quite remarkable. always remember... Henry is an optimist, but his optimism "wears heavy boots and is loud".
- I've got all of Hank's spoken word CDs (and books)& this has to be one of the best. It's always been hard for me to believe after hearing Black Flag & Rollins Band that Hank has such a sense of humor and a brain. I honestly believe his spoken word stuff is the best, followed closely by his books. His lyrics seem trite compared to the other two. A great CD, even if you're not into Rollins. He'll make you laugh at times, but he'll always make you think. Something we need nowadays.
