- Good quality product of a singer admired a while back. Unable to procure thus far until recently via Amazon. Definitely for the romantics worldwide. Fabulous.
- It could not be better!!! I bought it to give it as a present, but I ended up keeping it for myself :). Being myself far away from my country (Mexico) makes these Romances even more delightful. The production's quality, Luis Miguel's voice and the songs' clever selection make this compilation priceless.
- TODOS LOS ROMANCES IS A 3 CD COMPILATION. #1 AND #3 CONSIST OF MAINLY VERY ROMANATIC BALLADS. BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENTATION. SOUNDS LIKE A WORLD CLASS ORCHESTRA BACKING HIS STRONG SOULFUL VOICE. #2 IS MY FAVORITE ALTHOUGH IT HAS THE SAME BEAUTIFUL ORCHESTRAL SOUND, IN THIS CD YOU HEAR THE MEXICAN/LATINO INFLUENCE. THEY'RE ARE A COUPLE OF MARIACHI SONGS INCLUDED SUNG IN HIS STYLE THAT ARE AWESOME. BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.
- I FIRST HEARD THIS CD IN A RESTAURANT AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE VOICE. ALTHOUGH I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH, THE WORDS SEEM TO STIR SUCH PEACEFUL AND LOVING FEELINGS IN ME.

5 comments about Astor Piazzolla.
- A 10 CD box of always interesting, often great, music by Piazzolla- and at this price? Wow. Though recorded over different years, the sound quality, while not uniform, is always clear, and appears to be true stereo. The company that issued this also has a number of other bargain boxes of great jazz musicians- the others I have are excellent as well.
- So many american citizens names what is below Mexico as Banana Republics and confund what is country, capital, state, etc. in Brazil/Argentin/Buenos Aires/Rio/Sao Paulo/Brasilia. Brazil speaks portuguese, its capital is Brasilia, the national music is samba and it won 5 times the Socker worldcup. Argentina speaks Spanish, its capital is Buenos Aires, the national music is Tango and it won 2 times the socker worlcup. There is a lot of competition between the 2 countries, mainly Argentina at the end of WW II was the 4th largest econimy in the world and from this time it has been continuosly lost position, while Brazil in opposite is today the 8th largest economy in the world with all the indicators going up. But the subject is music.
Astor Piazzolla is in my opinion the greatest Argentine contribution for the world music. He in life was hated for some (a lot) purist Argentine because he lived many years abroad and of course shows in his music the influence of others music styles, creating a Fusion Jazz TANGO. Of course what Argentines hate Brazilian will love.
In South America music he is only behind Antonio Carlos (TOM) Jobin, the Bossa Nova Icon.
- While there are several repeats of songs (works) in the 10-CD set, they are recorded at different periods in the late Astor Piazzolla's musical life, with different groupings of musicians. There is an incredible amount of song material in this set for such a small amount of money. The recording quality is variable, no doubt due to the quality of the original recordings, but it is still very good overall for the collection as a whole. For anyone just newly learning about Piazzolla, this is a very good collection to have as a starter set, at a very low price. And, for an oldtimer like me who already has a lot of CD albums of both Piazzolla performances and those of others who have covered his work with different instrumentation, I still added a lot of new song titles to my Piazzolla song list. I was lucky enough to have seen Piazzolla perform in concert in Miami about 1-2 years before his stroke, and 3-4 years before he died in 1992. I was also lucky to have heard and learned about his work before that time, even though it was long after he became famous (I never owned a Piazzolla record). It would have been nice to have an explanatory booklet ("liner notes") about the various works, even if the set cost a couple bucks more, which is why I downgraded to 4 stars.
- An amazing musician. It's a great price and a wealth of material to enjoy, study and love. Beautiful.
- I already own more than fifty Piazzolla CDs and so was more than a little curious about what new material could be gleaned from this ambitious box set. What I found is that despite thinking that my collection must be nearing completion, my collection is far from complete indeed! While most of the songs are very familiar, at least eighty percent of the arrangements are not.
The songs within are mostly from the late 60s-70s period of Piazzolla's long and glorious career. There are some live recordings, some recordings in Portuguese, some in Italian, and some recordings made with some of the more obscure Piazzolla ensembles as well as a modest number of arrangements as presented on recordings I already own. In short, this is a veritable treasure trove of some of the twentieth century's finest compositions. After hearing this set for the first time, I wondered just how many more of Piazzolla's recordings have yet to be released. There are no favorite songs here, they are all good. This box set is an incredible bargain-do the math-which belongs in every music lover's collection. In addition to 10 CDs, the buyer gets an informative booklet. Get it while it is still available, it is one of the best deals I have ever gotten.

1 comments about Café de los Maestros.
- For those who love the tango style of the Guardia Vieja and of the Golden Age, those days often seem to be alive only in the thankfully widely available recordings of the day. Tango Nuevo is now ascendant and the heirs of Tango Nuevo genius/prophet Astor Piazzolla are today taking tango in directions unimagineable just ten years ago! But wait, many of the old guard are still with us and still making great music today.
Cafe de los Maestros is a compilation in loving tribute to all those who continue maintain the traditions in the face of the mass-market touristic glitz that is the only face of the old guard of which most tango dilettantes are aware. In this set, each featured musician puts his/her own mark on an old composition using a base orchestra (Orquesta Tipica de los Maestros) and suitable chamber formations comprised of some of the best tango musicians of the day.
When I first saw this box advertised, I saw the song list and the list of artists. Some I knew, and some I didn't, but the idea behind its issue intrigued me, so I ordered it. What a rare treat! Not only were some of my favorite musicians here, but some of my favorite compositions as well. The rarity of the treat is in that the arrangements and the players of those arrangements are mostly new to me.
Let's look at the set one CD at a time.
On the first CD, I expected to enjoy mostly the work of Atilio Stampone, Osvaldo Berlingieri, Leopoldo Federico, and Mariano Mores.
As it turned out, my favorites on the disc were those numbers featuring Berlingieri, Federico, and Mores. The surprise is Alberto Podesta who belts out a memorable rendition of Percal.
On the second CD, I expected my favorites would be the works of Leopoldo Federico, Horacio Salgan, Osvaldo Berlingieri, Atilio Stampone and Mariano Mores again. While I did enjoy their contributions as I did the ones on the first disc, the surprise cuts turned out to be Un Cielo Para Los Dos, a guitar-based duet featuring Lagrima Rios and Gustavo Santaolalla, Carlos Lazzari's rendition of the famed La Punalada, and the magnificent interpretation of Chique by Ernesto Baffa and Ubaldo de Lio.
You might wonder why the box set costs considerably more than the two volumes bought separately. The reason is that with the box you get an elegant hard cover booklet containing photos, biographies and lyrics in Spanish and English. If that appeals to you, then the extra few dollars you spend is well worth it.
Whether you are one who prefers to listen to tango or are an avid dancer, this box set is right for you. This set is already getting heavy action in my CD rotation.

2 comments about Brasil: A Century of Song.
- I bought this box set because of all the major Brazilian stars featured in the set. I have a pretty extensive Brazilian collection, and I hoped this would fill in for some stars that I do not have in my collection. But it was not what I hoped for, the stars are there but they are not singing any of their good stuff, and many of the tracks feature multiple singers, like if they were singing for a fund raiser. The few good tunes that are in this collection don't justify the price.
- 'nuff said. If you want to know what Brazilian music is about in as compact a package as possible, this is it.

- I loved every song on this cd! Every song is energetic, fun, and soothing all at the same time. It's a must for anyone who loves latin music. It'll definitely get you on your feet, dancing in no time!
- Hot selection of Salsa dance tracks.
This UK label has great salsa compilations.
I plan to get every salsa title on Nascente and the defunct UK Charly that I can find.
The UK CD Mastering and pressing of Nascente's CDs is superb. The sound quality is audiophile .Compare the sound to any USA Fania CD and you will be amazed.

5 comments about Latin Oldies Trilogy.
- When it comes to those hard to find chicano oldies this collection has got it. Every song on the collection was a hit at it's time and still is today. When i'm talking (Tell Her She's Lovely) by (el Chicano) or maybe even a real love song oldie like (Mujer Mia) by (Joe Bataan) or even (Si Me Paro) by (Johnny Chingas) or (Cinco De Mayo) A not to popular but firme oldie by (war) or most of you chicanos have probably herd of the song (Chicano Park) that was built for the hispanic community. How could you forget it. This is just some of them theres even more. This is 1 collection that really exsplains the ways of the chicano life style. We will always have those memories of back in the days drinking and having partys, making romance with your loved, one or even just kickin back listing to something thats was good worth listing to. I will never forget those days when all this was in and to think we havent changed much, even if you think you have, get this collection and just kick back and you start to remember all those firme oldies and good times. This is 1 collection you chicanos would love my personal favorite song (Mujer Mia) by (Joe Bataan) but all these songs are a chingon must have in your oldies collection cause this is what true chicanos are all about cruisin with the homies, bumpin these oldies down hiland street, as for other chicano oldies collection nothing can beat!!! or even compete!!!
- All I have to say is that this is a great collection of Chicano cruisin' classics and kickin' it lovesongs. Man it really is a soundtrack to the Chicano lifestyle. A complete collection of the best. The best collection next to this is "Back to the barrio" - rare and hard to find Chicano classics vol. 1. this has many out of print and rare songs from back in the day. It has latin rock, latin funk, and latin soul. contact Chorizo Records www.chorizomusic2003@yahoo.com
- These songs have been with me since I was 15 cruisin in the '68 Chevy Impala my dad gave mr for my quince anos. They are like the soundtrack to our life. I fell in love with my fiancee for cherishing oldies as much as I do. They bring back so many memories. This box set says it all! Its Memories in a trilogy!
- I was watching TV last week, and on came a commercial using Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love", still one of my favorite songs. I hopped onto Amazon & found this CD collection. What a great set of choices! Some you would find on the radio today. But some I thought would be lost forever. I was living in Ft. Lauderdale in 1973, when I first heard El Chicano. If you've never heard "Tell Her She's Lovely", you are in for a treat. Still sounds as good as it did then, great lyrics, great sound.
- These songs are fantastic & make you feel good! They will always be loved and listened too. These songs have been around for many to enjoy, especially Latinas & Latinos. Viva La Raza! As a teen I was cruisin with these tunes... (8 track tapes) Now my hijos, are kickin it with them...(CD's) What a trip! ¡Que Loco!
And they think I'm not cool... ;-) yeah, right!CUL
