- i bought mine from the man on tour in the 90s. i told him i like the albums where there was lots of stuff on his voice like i especially mentioned rev norb #2.he handed me this one. boy, was he not kidding... of course i bought every album he ever did but this one was a big time favorite..not only do you get the all time fave "cut the mullet", but "dovetail joint"(a computer one note r2d2 version of wesley singing the chorus) and "you better find my pistol" (a harsh metallic type monster wesley)..and of course the title track of the killer diller docu masterpiece..."the daddy of rock and roll"....very consistent cut to cut and not as repetitive due to the effects added and the extreme nature of em... has more suprises than most of his albums put together...if you only have the hits and want a handful more and like the voice effects..this is the one
- Wesley hits hard on this one. Among his series to be released on FUSE Records, this album housed the now cult hit "cut the mullet." Among other jems, "Sharyl Davis" needs to be experienced by anyone who considers themselves a fan of the self proclaimed "daddy of rock & roll."

- New-school Pigface releases are always a mixed bag, and "Head..." is no exception.
The collaborative nature of Pigface has always meant that every CD was new and unexpected... with Atkins' familiar production touches, and signature drum loops & casette tape scratching. As the years progressed, artists have come and gone and Pigface has remained a ever-shifting garage rock project, and not really a band.
"Head..." and the album from which it was remixed, "Easy Listening" feature artists such as Bile, Nocturne, Dope, etc... and the CD has emerged FAR more polished than older Pigface releases, and the overall sound emulates the aforementioned bands.
Personally I can't stand the "Bile" school of electronic rock. (I saw them open for KMFDM, they were terrible) Don't get me wrong, I love electronic rock... but the bands collaborating on this Pigface release are ones that I find pretty mediocre.
There are, however, a few really solid tracks on this release. The opening track is an unbelievable remix of Insect/Suspect which was great in the first place. The Defrag remix of "Bitch" is fast and intense and the beats are all shattered into a million pieces.
The album slows down real quick after that.
My advice? Buy "Easy Listening" and see if you hate it. If you don't, you will enjoy this as well.
- The only complaint I have is WHY SO MANY VERSIONS OF "Closer To Heaven" ??? The only SAPPY Pigface tune Ive EVER heard and they do it 4 or 5 times??? Its done well and all but still...Maybe if it was "Closer To Hell" I'd like it, who knows. HOWEVER, "King Of Negativity" is absolutely wicked! Worth the full price of the disc...that depends what the "full price" is I suppose? I got damn lucky and got my copy at a pawn shop for two buck$, and it just happens to have God's ...ooops, I mean Martin Atkins autograph on the cover. BOTTOM LINE: Martin Atkins is an incredible artist that knows more about music than most people on this planet ever will, so I dont think he's capable of doing crappy music. With that in mind buy the disc and piss off, aspholes! Peace.
P.S. Check out "The Damage Manual", another kick-ass band w/Atkins/Walker/Connely & the Mighty JAH WOBBLE on bass
- What can I Possibly say that has not already been said about this band. The Remixes are excellent except for the tiring loops of "Closer to Heaven"...the Colony 5 remix of "B1tch" will have you dancing till the edge of dawn and then some. Godhead's "King of Negativity" chilling, very chilling. If you enjoy Pigface as a band you need to get "HEad"

- This album seemed like some sort of nightmare when I used to listen stoned in college, rooted to the couch unable to move because of the FEAR and the beauty and energy in this disc. Finally I'd crawl to the stereo intending to stop it so I could relax, then a new song would start and I'd curl up and whimper with pleasure/pain again. Rumour has it they were on a group acid trip during the making of this, and it sounds like it. God, it's wonderful.

- Never has any group built their entire career upon the wacky nonsense of the Bonzo Dog Band (formerly Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band). When a song's lyrics include phrases like "The Shirt Event" and "The Electric Shirt Collar" you know it's something you just have to hear whether you really want to or not.
- Noone knows more about nor appreciates more than do I The Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band. Noone. I first became aware of the Bonzos when they made a cameo appearance in the Beatle's feature Magical Mystery Tour. I was disappointed to learn that John Lennon had objected to their inclusion, but, thankfully, Paul McCartney, who had "discovered" them, prevailed, and the Bonzos made it to the otherwise unimportant film's final cut. I had purchased all of the Bonzos' to-date released albums by the summer of 1971, when I was just 16 years old. I learned more of the Bonzos thanks to the eclectic programming of our local free-form FM radio station in Sacramento, CA, KZAP, and I attended their only concert tour of the US in 1969 when they opened for Led Zeppelin. Well after the band's breakup, I had the privilage of attending intimate performances by both Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall during tours of their solo acts. I sat front row during a concert date on Elton John's US tour following the release of Honky Chateau when Elton featured "Legs" Larry Smith tap-dancing in ski boots atop the grand piano. I was a huge fan especially of Stanshall's, and in later years attended an exclusive Tokyo screening of the film version of Rawlinson's End, starring Trevor Howard as jolly, bucolic, old Sir Geoffrey. And for all of this, it is my highly informed opinion that of the Bonzos' many and extravagantly produced albums, Tadpoles is their finest work. Among the many gems on this album is the best-ever cover of a one-hit-wonder's hit, Billy "Boris" Pickett's Monster Mash, featuring Stanshall both out-Borising Pickett and out-Borising Boris Karloff, the original object of Pickett's impersonation. Typical of the genius of the Bonzos' their cover vastly surpassed the original--and featured the additional line "Igor! Have you watered the brains today, Igor?"--much as their musical parody of the Beatles on their final album, Let's Make Up and Be Friendly, vastly surpassed the Beatles. In fact, it is my unimpeachable opinion that the Bonzos were the original Beatles and that only after discovering the Bonzos, the Beatles were inspired to make their career-transforming leap from Mersey Beat to Psychedelia. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an auto da fe to attend in my tent.
- While this is not The Bonzo's greatest work (that title belongs to URBAN SPACEMAN, also known as THE DOUGHNUT IN GRANNY'S GREENHOUSE), it is, along with their GORILLA, among some of most innovative and hilarious musical satire ever produced. After all these years, this is not only still funny, it's actually quite enjoyable as music. The musicianship is deceptively complex and accomplished, while the lyrics rival anything to come out of British comedy, Monty Python included (various members of The Python and the Bonzo's worked on each other's projects). Although most of the songs are originals, there is one cover, 'Monster Mash,' which will be more familiar to some listeners (of a certain age) than the Bobby Pickett version. The eclectic range of music here, inspired by several decades of changing styles, makes this recording endlessly entertaining: We are transported to the Late 20's/early 30's ('Tubas In The Moonlight,' 'By A Waterfall,' 'Doctor Jazz') the late 50's/early 60's ('Monster Mash,' 'Canyons Of Your Mind,' the latter a cheeky Elvis send-up), and on towards the age of heavy metal (the guitar work on 'Mr. Apollo'). The Spirits of Spike Jones and His City Slickers are invoked by zany ditties such as 'Hunting Tigers Out In India' and 'Ali-Baba's Camel,' complete with sound effects and vocal asides. 'Shirt' pokes fun at man-on-the-street interviews, and 'Ready-Mades' would be at home on any number of '60's psychedelic rock albums (a strange combination of Bee Gees, Beatles and early Pink Floyd). Songs like 'Tubas' and 'Waterfall' seem to anticipate the rise of the more serious, reverential careers of Ry Cooder (his JAZZ album), John Fahey (OLD-FASHIONED LOVE and AFTER THE BALL), and Leon Redbone (his entire catalog). For fans of important memorabilia from the '60's and early '70's, British comedy up to the present, and musical parody of any kind, this is indispensible. It is becoming hard-to-find, so get it soon!
- This album by the extremely English dada jazz-rock outfit contains some of their shiniest gems. This cover of the "Monster Mash" is probably the one that most people know, in which Igor is asked if he's watered the brains, and Viv laughs wonderfully demonically in the fade-out. The last two tracks are in a class of their own. Particularly if you can get anyone to air-guitar the solo on "Canyons"... (Thanks, Roj!).

- Folk Implosion is made up of ex-Sebadoh singer/songwriter Lou Barlow and his partner John Davis. This obviously created a lot of hype. Thankfully, even with the album being arguably uneven (though that more has to do with the fact that it has 3 GREAT songs and the others are simply "good"), Folk Implosion managed to write some GREAT songs (these would be "Pole Position", "Insinuation" and "Checking In"). These songs are simply some of the best indie rock tunes that I have the pleasure of owning. These songs essentially make the album a classic as the rest are merely "good". It also seems pretty original for some reason, even though it sounds like it was influenced by many other bands. Lou Barlow is still a very good singer, and although he doesn't necessarily go for any high notes you won't care about that at all. The lyrics are surprisingly good here, and oftentimes they're pretty memorable (and catchy). The musicianship is also extremely good (and clear) here - it sounds like lo-fi indie rock. Basically, there's a lot one will like about this album. Lou Barlow and indie rock fans will love this album, and I think other people probably will too! Highly recommended!
Highlights include:
the entire album!
- Like I thought of the "Take a look inside" CD.....these are really just the reference material which the later CDs have grown from. The better CD to buy is "One Part Lullaby" or even the "KIDS" soundtrack....where the beats and melodies are more compicated and interwoven....more mature sound.
- Either that, or I can't tell what's cool anymore.Even at 30, I still think this is an unpolished alternative gem. Warm,lo-fi minimalist pluckings showcase introspective love bummer lyrics that chronicle the darker side of affection. Sure, it isn't radio friendly, but is that the measure of goodness? You'll get high mileage out of this CD-hard to tire of. Shoegazers take note, this is your record.
- This is nice indie rock for teenagers as it gets. I mean, its not the Beatles, but it has its place and it does have some really good songs like Burning Paper (the best on the Cd in my opinion), Insinuation, and Checking In.
Something about playing this album in Oct or Nov when it starts to get really chilly outside and you've just broken up with someone. That's how I first heard it. Not to say it cheered me up at all, but I listen to it now and I am instantly transported to walking home one late afternoon in November as the sun was starting to weaken out, and I had on a sweater, but I was still cold and I had just broken up with my girlfriend. And of course, I am listening to this thing in my walkman. So now, forever until the end of time, that is what I think of listening to this album. Arghhhh!! I don't have any of their other albums, except for that early one that says on the back: 20 songs in 14 minutes, or something like that. That one sounds like my ex-girlfriend's brother's band in the garage when they didn't have a bass player and they only knew three songs and the drummer couldn't keep in time!! Oh, gee, I've just put on the CD, and here it comes, the opening bars of Pole Position and there I am walking on that sidewalk with all those kids riding bikes and laughing, and there I was dwelling on a broken heart and this was my soundtrack. I hope you have better listening experiences than I did. Don't listen to ANY cd if you just broke up with your girlfriend. That CD will never make you think of anyone else but her.
- Yes, definitely One Part Lullaby made use of more instruments, but that doesn't mean that it has a better sound. If you were already a fan of the Folk Implosion, you would get bored of One Part Lullaby easily; it sounds as if trying to go mainstream. I highly recommend Dare to be Surprised because it has more of an original and lo-fi sound. Great album.

- The song beach boy is quite enjoyable and the live tracks are okay. It has computer enhancements which are rather clever.
"beach boy" and studio performances of the live tracks appear on the album "Raygun Suitcase", which after repeated listenings I find quite satisfying. incidently "Raygun Suitcase" does contain a very basic performance of "Surfer Girl" that wouldn't sound much out of place on the Beach Boys album "Wild Honey". This EP and the album are no longer in print, pere ubu and Tim/Kerr parted ways because of a legal dispute, someday they may be re-issued. Cross your fingers but don't hold your breathe, any album released since 1988 up to "pennsylvana" just doesn't seem to get back into issue once discontinued. Why the song was entitled "beach boy" isn't apparent to me as beach boy or surf references are not mentioned.

- Jello Biafra is the MASTER of political satire. Not only do his lyrics rip through you with their acidity, but awe you with their wit and accuracy.
"Play ethnicky jazz/To parade your snazz/On your 5 grand stereo/Bragging that you know how the niggers feel cold/And the slum's got so much soul."
(Excerpt from "Holiday In Cambodia")
Even though those lyrics were written almost 30 years ago, I have yet to hear so few words that describe ignorant, suburban, wannabe-cool white kids so well. Paired with Biafra's lyrical genius, the musical styling of Flouride, Peligro, and East Bay Ray blast with raw, furious energy in just over 30 minutes. The songs are short, punchy, raw, and everything a punk album should be. Highlights include the afformented "Holiday In Cambodia", "Drug Me", "Chemical Warfare", "Let's Lynch The Landlord", and "Stealing People's Mail", however there is not one weak song on this album. A must have for any fan of the punk genre.
- Review number 112. Holy shaz-bat!! Believe it or not, as many of CD's I get the chance to listen to while borrowing from a friend, store employee, etc. without having to purchase the title unless I want to, I've never heard this ground-breaking debut album from the beloved Dead Kennedys. Love that insane album title! 'Fresh Fruits...' shows me just how extreme of a pure all-American hardcore punk band the Kennedys were. I mean, like didn't they practically invent 'hardcore'? You tell me. Either way, this fourteen track reissue really does it for me. Cuts I thought made a real statement were the insulting "Kill The Poor", "When You Get Drafted", the awesome "Let's Lynch The Landlord" (possibly an anthem for some?), "Stealing People's Mail" and probably their best known song that anyone who ever even listens to the radio should know, the in-your-mug "Holiday In Cambodia". Should rake in loyal fans and followers of the Sex Pistols, Alice Donut, The Germs, Minor Threat and of course Black Flag. Essential.
- The first full length album from Dead Kennedys is still foremost on the list of classic punk rock albums. Describing the band a leftover Vietnam War protest band, Jello B. and the Dks became the liberal conscience of the early punk underground scene. Picking up where the Sex Pistols' fell apart in San Francisco, California, Dead Kennedys continued the back-to-basics/music-as-message aesthetic of their British predecessors.
Jello's lyrics flip-flop from humorous to in-your-face in true satirical manner challenging the listener to divine whether he's a sick agitator or a wry social commentator. I've come to the conclusion that the songs are straw-man set ups delivered from the point of view to satiree; hopefully, I've been right all these years and the man isn't totally nuts.
Taking on subjects from hypocrisy of authority and waste of the unexamined life, "Fresh Fruit..." is as confrontational as it is fun to listen to, while as being just as relevant as when it was originally released. There's everything from the politics of County Joe to the energy of Joey Ramone here.
Unfortunately, current disagreements between the former band members find this album, along with the rest of the Dead Kennedys catalogue, in a control tug-of-war based more on financial disagreements than on ideological ones, which is in stark contrast to the spirit that the album was created in. If you can find an older copy on Alternative Tentacles Records, grab it because it'll be a long, long time before this material will be pressed again under the banner of the bat logo.
- this is definently one of the best punk albums of the 80's, along with circle jerks' group sex and adolescent's blue album. unfortunatly, like the other two bands, their latter efforts just didn't have what the debuts did. having said that, fresh fruit is a must-have for any punk collection. every song is great, from classics such as california uber alles, holiday in cambodia, and kill the poor to other great tracks such as when ya get drafted, let's lynch the landlord, chemical warfare, and funland at the beach, this album rocks from start to finish. get it today.
- This is classic old school punk rock. It's amazing how if you change a few names of the politicians and events that were written 26 years ago it even fits with current events ;) If you are young and haven't heard this give it a look it will blow you away.
