  1. The music is very inspirational, and the singles on track 11, 12, and 13 for "Yes" are so emotional that they touch your heart with hope.

  2. This CD is amazing. I have the video as well and it sets the atmosphere everytime I press play.

  3. This is a great Gospel CD. all should listen to it and enjoy! I listen as I am driving to work, and it helps me to prepare for the day.

  4. To GOD be the glory! I LOVE this CD! I get chills and can feel the Holy Spirit come over me as I listen to this CD. This album is by far the best. I LOVE the song "Yes". Her voice is so powerful. It will bring you to tears. You will not be disappointed buying this CD!!!

  5. Wonderful live worship. I like Shekinah Glory Ministeries music cos its always full of God's presence. The music is not too slow and not too noisy, I think it fits for majority of people.

  1. Best ever??!! BEST EVER?!!! I CANT'T BELIEVE THIS! IF THESE SONGS ARE THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN SONGS EVER WHERE IS PETRA??? TELL ME WHERE IS THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN BAND?????!!! THIS IS MADNESS. AND ON TOP OF THAT: PLACE IN THIS WORLD???? MICHAEL W. SMITH HAS BETTER SONGS THAN THAT CHEESY BALLAD. THIS ALBUM IS LUDICROUS... WELL, AT LEAST IT HAS THE GREATEST SONG OF AMY GRANT: LEAD ME ON.
BUT WHERE IS PETRA? WHERE IS PETRA???!!! WHERE IS THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN BAND?????!!!!!!

  2. Nobody likes everything. I really loved the "blue disc" but didn't like the "gray disc" much. Someone did a really great job of categorizing and seperating the music by style. I like the "blue disc" an awful lot. It is well worth what I paid for it. The service was quick and trouble free. Overall I'm very satisfied.

  3. This is a really great Christian CD. I recommend it for anyone who loves contemporary Christian music!

  4. Not only is the quality great, but it's something you want to listen to over and over again!

  5. This was the first CD I purchased from this series. The music is definitely uplifting. There is a wide variety of artists on this CD to suit anybody's taste. I do my work listening to the music and it is great for a stress buster.
I especially like 'Stomp' by Kirk Franklin. This is a combination of a large black choir with an excellent sense of rhythm conducted by Kirk who also sings. The instrumentation behind the music is very rhythmic and great. I usually like other styles of music, but this particular piece is great! It's great to take along in the car if you want to listen to something that is a stress buster and also a prevention of boredom.

  1. Mike's lyrics are wrenched from his life's journey through good times and bad. His decision to wear his heart on his sleeve allows all of us to experience the hope that comes from living the blues. A little Boz Scaggs, a little Bob Dylan, his voice, music and message create a foot stompin hand clappin lift for the spirit. Religious music is personal and in your face preaching is often a huge turn-off. This music is different. Try to keep from singing along with Can't no grave hold My body down. His acoustic guitar is the perfect accompaniment for music that entertains and inspires.

  2. I had never heard of Mike Farris before I saw him on the Gospel Music Channel one night. His voice intrigued me so I decided to order his CD. The songs on the CD sound like a mixture of many different styles of music: everything from Negro spirituals to Blues, Soul, and Funk, with a heavy dose of New Orleans flavor. Some folks will probably not care for it. I can say that is like nothing I have ever heard before. I can say that it will affect you in some way. At times you will want to raise your hands, look toward heaven and praise God. At other times you will want to sit, close your eyes, and connect with the song on a deep spiritual level. At other times you'll tap your toes and maybe even want to get up and dance. The CD is outside what I normally listen too, but I can't seem to get enough of it.

  3. This is, simply put, a great CD. Mike Farris' powerful voice and his backing vocalists blend well with the soulful sound of his band. While this is lyrically a religious-based album, and I am not in the least bit religious, I enjoy the music for its qualities of being both refreshingly entertaining and uplifting. There is not a 'throw away' song on the album. It is solid from beginning to end. I just saw the band live and they are incredible live. They are able to sing full-out and create the energy displayed on the album. They sang and played full throttle. Their love of the music came across clearly and you could tell that they had as good of a time on stage as the audience did, which danced and sang as Mike Farris and the Roseland Rhythm Review played.

  4. Let's rewind about 12 years to 1996 and Cleveland, Ohio. I was in a smoke filled bar with some friends having one to many beers waiting for The Why Store to come on stage as the headlining act. I actually don't remember much of the Why Store show, but what I did remember was a band called Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies (SCW) with Mike Farris as the lead man up-front. As soon as Mike started singing, I couldn't believe what I was hearing! The power and soul in his vocals was powerful, and inspirational at the same time, like being at a big tent revival, but without the evangelizing. There were times of full out eruption to quiet melodic sounds coming from the stack amps. Absolutely incredible!! I was hooked from then on. Fast forward 12 years to 2008. I long gave up the bars and beers am was sitting at home watching the Gospel Music Channel (GMC) and I hear this same distinct voice coming from the TV as I did so many times before but couldn't believe it was on GMC???. Was this the Mike Farris I knew from SCW! I was right, it was!! Hallelujah!! I found out (OK I am a bit behind here) Mike is still singing and has elevated it to another level indeed!! Singing for our Savior! This CD "Salvation in Lights" is quite the testimony for Mike. It really showcases his voice and talent, all of which he gives thanks to the Lord God almighty. A must have CD if you want to hear some Louisiana style grass roots soul filled gospel music! I love this CD and can't wait to see Mike on tour again. This time I will be drunk on the Holy Spirit!!

  5. I was not familiar with his previous work as the frontman of the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies but after hearing of his Salvation story and of his musical experience I thought He would be someone to check out. I am so glad I did this is such a great album with very powerful and soulful vocals. It has its own unique sound that doesnt really sound like anyone else out there today. It is great for all ages with a souful, gospel, rock, R&b, and blues sound. I love his cover of Sam Cooke's "Change is Gonna Come" and his version of the hymn "Precious Lord Take My Hand." Again a great album that reaches both the young and the old.

  1. jonny lang always just floors me... i like this cd.... its nice to know hes not just blue............. always powerful and i still will drive a longggggggggggggggggg way to watch him live.... its different but ever changing as any good artist will do........ love you jonny lang.....

  2. Lots of complaints on here from prior Jonny Lang fans. I only learned of Lang recently, so I am only familiar with his new work. It is outstanding. I bet most complaints are not really about the music or artist himself, but rather that they were expecting something more similar to his past work. For what it is though, it is unique, inspiring , and has a great beat.

  3. I am (was) a great fan of Jonny Lang. I have seen him a few times in concert and loved that a young kid could play the guitar like he did.

Sure this album changes from darker themes to a more christian theme but that is not my beef with the album. The problem is that he apparently has gradually given up on playing the guitar in his songs. He was an excellent soloist and if he wants to find religion, fine, just keep playing the instrument that got you there. He is dangerously close to becoming a christian-backstreet boy.

Jonny, you dont have to do drugs or sing about sin to make great music. This is not, musically speaking, great music.

    Maybe next album...

  4. You can tell he has now experienced life, and is not just soulfully singing about it....although he did THAT well, too!

  5. Love it!
I understand why this Jonny Lang album is award winning.
    Excellent, Jonny! Keep it up!

  1. During one Sunday afternoon, I had the television on to CMT watching the top 20 songs when the infomercial for this album came on. While I love all of the songs, I will say that I am not crazy about all of the country updates. Overall, I would buy the album again because there are enough songs that I enjoy that would entice me to be interested in purchasing it.

  2. This CD was very disappointing. I was hoping for something I could sing along with and this was not it!

  3. I love this CD. It has the best country gospel sound of any I have.
Great to get you moving in the kitchen or to sit and listen to in silence.
Reminds me of the music from "Cowboy Church" in Nashville. Works for me.

  4. The songs on the disc are as advertised, but the sound quality was extremely poor, no, not poor, but bad.

  5. I have enjoyed listening to these familiar songs that are sung in churches every Sunday, including my own. All in all, it is a good album.

  1. Great video. The Bishop has always been on the right track in his speaking. This video is a nice one to add to your collection. It's one to pick up when you've been to church but didn't get enough church for that day. If you need uplifting at anytime of the day or night. This is worth the purchase.

  2. I watched this four times and then blessed two friends with it. When T.D. Jakes says: "It takes a radical person...", it's exhilarting to see that Jakes is an awesome and amazing role model. Praise the Lord!

  1. No stars at all...This tape Stinks...very baaad.
The backup singers ruin this tape.

    Ralphael, the OLD one

  2. The booming bass of Tennessee Ernie Ford is truly something to behold. The envy of opera baritones, Tennessee Ernie Ford is one of the few singers (Crosby and Como come to mind) who can sing the saddest of laments one minute and turn around and sing the funniest of ditties the next. His discography reflects this, and spans from country to rock and from gospel to pop. But, of all Tennessee Ernie Ford's music, I prefer his gospel. His deep, emotive baritone is perfect for shading the notes of even the most wistful heavenly pleas. This CD compilation represents an excellent sampling of his many gospel LPs. Every type of gospel song is present, from the obscure to the ubiquitous. However, what separates these versions of hymns from others is untimely Tennessee himself. A man of deep Christian faith, he instils these hymns with a level of emotion and a depth of feeling seldom heard, and certainly beyond what even the original composers may have imagined. From these recordings, it is easy to see why his first album, aptly titled `Hymns,' spent 277 weeks on the best selling charts.

The song choices can hardly be faulted, representing the complete spectrum of his gospel recording stretching from the early 1960's right into the late 1970's. Taken as a whole, this is an excellent sampling while we await the eventual re-release of his entire gospel discography. Though great, it is not a perfect release by any means. Not that there is anything wrong with the songs, mind you, just the quality and sources used. Although no documentation is provided, it appears that this CD uses at least three different levels of sourcing for its songs, which results in some very uneven sound quality. The good news is that there appears to be 1st generation masters used on many of the tracks, especially the tracks sourced from the `Spiritual' and `Hymn' long players. However, these are not original version of those tracks. In 1962 both aforementioned LPs were re-recorded in full stereophonic sound, and those are the versions brilliantly present here. There is one curious change though. The song "In the Garden" is sourced from the vinyl of the 1956 mono version, resulting in the worst sounding effort in the disc. Most other songs have middling sound quality, as all other songs, save the ones recorded with the The Jordanaires, appear to be sourced from 2nd generation masters.

I strongly recommend purchasing this with the recently re-released LPs of `Hymns' and `Spirituals.' Although the track listing between those two albums and this set may seem to overlap, they do not. The versions are, in fact, completely different.

If you like gospel music, you might as well start with the best, and this is it. You will not find a better singer of Christian songs.

    A.J. Smith
    A 19-year old music fan

  3. Very meaningful and olden but golden songs along with songs that I'd not heard before.

  4. Amazing Grace: 40 Treasured Hymns-I will take the title of this CD set and call it "Amazing Music" by one of my favorite singers of all time. His voice is always strong and soars about the backup singers. My favorite of the 40 hymns on these two CD's is: "Did You Think to Pray?". On the last chorus of this hymn, Tennessee Ernie takes the bass part and blends it with the backup singers in a way that touches my heart every time I hear it. A purchase of this item is money WELL spent! Bill Joe Nix, Shelbyville, Tennessee 37160

  5. Awesome! For many years my husband and I have loved listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford, and we certainly are not disappointed with this collection. It is difficult to find these old hymns and, much more so, to hear them performed as only this man did.

5 comments about At San Quentin.

  1. Johnny Cash is undoubtedly as essential to American music as Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Hank Williams. His contributions are admired by both country aficionados and rockers alike. On none of his releases is the reason why as apparent as with his "Live At San Quentin" release.

Here, we're treated to rousing renditions of early Cash classics "Big River," "I Still Miss Somone," and "I Walk The Line" alongside revamped versions of "Folsom Prison Blues," "Ring Of Fire," and "Wreck Of The Old 97." Needless to say, the addition of Carl Perkins to the list of backing musicians has a great deal to do with the musical quality of this show! However, the musical highlights don't stop there:

At San Quentin, Cash introduces new numbers / soon to be hits such as "A Boy Named Sue" and "Jackson," as well as the biting "San Quentin" and "Starkville City Jail." On the double-disc boxed set, Cash also welcomes upcoming act The Statler Brothers and bluegrass favorites The Carter Family (now consisting of Mother Maybelle and her daughters). No longer limited to merely country or gospel numbers, modern era folk and rock covers include the eclectic and often-covered "Break My Mind," the Lovin' Spoonful's "Darlin' Companion," Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing On My Mind," and Carl Perkins' classic "Blue Suede Shoes" (performed by the master himself)!

Cash's passing would leave an empty space in American music, but the legacy of recordings he left behind and the artists he inspired (and continues to inspire) will deservedly live on as a true American treasure.

  2. Everyone knows Johnny Cash is a legend, and this album shows why that is the case. Not only does it showcase his talent, but it gives you a glimpse of the person as well. Vintage Cash and worth every penny!

  3. My husband loves this CD, but I have a hard time listening to the foul language and gospel music!

  4. Great music from a classic singer. Now part of my collection of Johnny Cash items. Price was very low when ordered with other Amazon items.

  5. My teenage son was so flipped out about getting this in the mail..We have listened to it everyday since..
In great condition and fast service.. I would definately purchase from this seller again

  1. I wasn't familiar with Matt Maher until his release of the song "Empty and Beautiful". I really liked the song and thought I would take a chance on purchasing the CD. The music is wonderfully uplifting and inspiring. Well worth spending a few extra dollars to have all of the music vs paying for one song. If you like Christian music, you will enjoy this CD.

  2. This is a very well done album. I have been a fan of Matt Maher for 2 years and I think he is one of the best and least known Christian writer and preformer. His music is fresh and brings you into a place of praise and worship. After listing to it a few time you will find yourself singing along. If you are a fan of Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall or Matt Redman this album should be part of your collection.

  3. Awesome, upbeat, Catholic rock music. The kids and I are jammin on the way to baseball practice each night to Matt Maher. It's great when you can find music to please everyone and even better when Daddy is on board with the music!

  4. Pretty good, but not his best work. I have to admit the new stuff is up to par with his previous work, but the older songs he included have been changed to be more "Protestant". Don't sell out, Matt! You are the best Catholic artist there is! I was disappointed about that, but overall, I would recommend it, especially for someone who has never owned a CD by Matt Maher.

  5. Matt Maher is my favorite Catholic artist out there. His songs are inspirational and very well written and preformed. The songs on this new CD are great and i recommend this, along with his other three CD's to everyone. This is a must buy if you want to start listening to music with a better message, or are a fan of Catholic/Christian music already. I've also met Matt, and hes just an all around nice guy, which made me want this CD even more!

5 comments about Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration.

  1. Quincy Jones already rocks my world. I have nothing but respect for him and the level of musical excellence that has always surrounded anything he put his considerable mind and talent to. But this re-imagining of Handel's Messiah from an African-American perspective is exceptional, extraordinary, unabated joy--especially in "And He Shall Purify" and "Hallelujah!" I am a middle-aged white musician/pianist/voice teacher in New York City. I got my Master's at Indiana University in voice. I was raised a Southern-Baptist even! I only offer up this information to suggest what an unlikely candidate I might be to enjoy this CD. I can't stop smiling and moving with these extraordinary performances when I put this CD on. God bless Michael O. Jackson for these vocal arrangements. I bow to the unsurpassed musical expertise, as well as the heart and soul demonstrated throughout the recording. And the mixing is something else--out of this world, truly!
This is one amazingly-inspired recording. Do yourself a huge favor and buy it for yourself and everyone you know. And get ready to rock out.

  2. I don't listen to all the tracks on this recording, but I've all but worn out 8, 12 and the final track, the Halleluia Chorus. Stevie with Take 6 is masterful, as well as Al Jarreau on the all-star big band session. The one disapointment that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the recording quality. I wanted to use Why Do the Nations... with Jarreau to audition a pair of high-end stereo speakers in the store, and the band sounded like they were recorded in a shoe-box. Unfortunate for such great musicianship and arranging.

  3. I heard this CD at a friend's house once, years ago, and spent five years searching for it since. It showed up in Amazon this year, and I now, finally!, own it for myself.

I LOVE this CD! It pays homage to the original, but brings a lively, joyful, unique sound to the musical ideas Handel started with. It modernizes it without degrading it in any way. I still love the original (Tafelmusik's is my favourite rendition, as true to the original ideas as possible), but I love this adaptation equally as much. Some top-name musicians perform here, too, and I love hearing them add their creative ideas to this project.

    5 stars, for sure!

  4. I had heard the Hallelujah Chorus before (it was played in my spinning class at Christmas time) so I knew how great a song it is. I was hoping that the rest of the album was close to that level of inspiration and excitement - but I was disappointed. I liked the first cut (a short history of Black music in America) and a couple other cuts, but the Hallelujah Chorus is definitely the best. Most of the others are just so - so, in my opinion. Still the album is worth getting, just for the Hallelujah Chorus!

  5. I have always loved the dance rhythms, especially in the Overature. It is a really wonderful collage of all the kinds of African American music through history. I do recommend this product for a different feel of Handel's Messiah.
