- Some of the music sounds very secular - reminds me a lot of the Cure - but that's okay in my book. If you like praise and worship music, you should like this!
- This is a great CD. Many of the songs speak of the intimacy of relationship with God, others speak of the great hope we have of the reward we have coming as the fruit of our faithfulness and devotion now. We need to be reminded that no matter what we are going through now, when this world is all over and we are in eternity with God (that is, "Home" as one of the songs speaks of) it's an understatement to say that whatever sacrifice we have made for the cause of Christ is going to be worth it.
- This album is a great album to woship and praise with. I love the level of intimacy with God that this album carries. AWESOME!
- This is definitly a fav of mine out of the Hillsong worship series.Darlene is at he best here as well as the whole team.I love the very first song, which is the title song "For All You've Done".I have heard a version from the Lakewood Church, but i think Hillsong have a unique sound.I have become a fan of them since becoming a Christian in November 2004.I havnt actualy been to the conference as this is a Sydney thing, and i live in Melbourne. But one time around i am sure to go.
I love it when the play a fast song and the crown jump around and stuff, looks cool. The second song is "One Way",and that song has a very catchy tune and is very well known. Its a great song and i enjoy the next song as well "Evermore".This song gets sorta addictive, and is a definite fav of mine.Next is "With All I Am",slower but a very good song.
I love the next song "Sing",another slow one but its another realy good song also."Hallelujah",is another fav of mine from the CD,this is a long song but is a good one.I like the whole cd cant pick a bad song here, and its consistently good.
- This CD set is just full of powerful worship music. Lyrically simple, yet profound and biblical, and the music is full of angelic melodies... Good stuff.

5 comments about Another Time, Another Place: Timeless Christian Classics.
- Oh, Avalon, what happened?
I have purchased every Avalon album since the debut album - save for "Maze of Grace," which wasn't available in my country, and owning a copy now seems superfluous - and loved most of them, above all "Oxygen," my favorite Contemporary Christian album of all time. I would've defended Avalon to the teeth, including this release, were it not for the sheer fact that this album bored me to tears.
As timeless Christian classics go, I've only heard of three songs on "Another Time, Another Place," so I listen to the rest of it tabula rasa. I was truly looking forward to "Place in This World," the song that opened my eyes to Christianity. To my surprise, Greg, Janna, Jody, and Melissa swap verses and choruses, which jars the melodic flow, IMHO (male sings verse, female sings chorus? Why not just sing straight into it, or make PITW a full male-sung song?) I was expecting blow-me-away harmonies and instrumentation, and didn't get it, which was a let-down.
As another Amazon reviewer notes, the electronic beats on "El Shaddai" are indeed disconcerting and distracting. For me, the greatest disservice was done to "Testify To Love." Michael Passons has set a bar so high up that one honestly cannot expect Greg Long to match. Jody tries gamely to fill in the gap, but the exquisite vocal harmonies that characterized the classic TtL are not present here (a solo female voice on "for as along as I shall live, I'll testify, testify, all my life I'll testify..."? That section screams for sing-along harmonies! The TtL version on "Testify to Love" greatest hits compilation featuring the Katinas was a million miles better!). The end result is a half-baked concoction that does not match the exuberance, joy, and power of the original. It breaks my heart that Avalon cannot meet the standards it has set for itself with this revival of their own hit.
(As an aside, I respectfully disagree with one reviewer on "Stand." I think "Stand" stands to be one of Avalon's more noteworthy albums precisely because it signified their intention to try something new. If "Another Time, Another Place" is supposed to be a return-to-form of sorts, I'd much rather prefer the rockier Avalon. What is "new" with this album? Another set of revivals? As if "Faith" didn't already do that.)
Thankfully, there are a few shining gems on this album, most courtesy of ever-brilliant Jody McBrayer. His beautiful voice shines brightest on "El Shaddai" (which makes it all the more annoying that the phony electronica beats water down the simple gorgeousness of this song!). Melissa and Janna rip the roof off on "God is In Control." "People Need the Lord," "Solid As the Rock," and "Friend of a Wounded Heart" are also worth mentioning due to the exquisite vocal work present here.
As another aside, Shaun Shankel, album producer, did a spectacular job on Mandisa's "True Beauty." This album, not so much. We know he is capable of magic, and I think he can still pull it off, if Sparrow gets him for Avalon's next project.
I am used to the high standards that Avalon has set for itself. "Love Won't Leave You" was Avalon's last Top 20 CCM hit; since then, it's been tough pickings on any CCM chart. I wouldn't say CCM radio, AC or Inspo, has outgrown the group; I would say that the material has been largely substandard. This album is so sub-standard that the record label would not even give me PHOTOS with my CD booklet! I buy an Avalon album and I don't get a single photo of the group?? COME ON!
Get these guys back in the studio, hook them up with some current songwriters whose sound matches the sound the group really wants to achieve - you want rock, go to Mac Powell, Lincoln Brewster or Jeremy Camp, you want updated Europop, talk to Peter Furler, or go experiment with Southern gospel like you did with "I'll Fly Away" and come up with something amazing with David Mullen at the helm, or make a live worship album, since it seems to be the last territory of CCM the group hasn't delved into yet - and make an album that will make people sit up and take notice.
I don't expect to get good reviews with this review. It's the first negative review I've ever written, and it pains me immensely to write it. I only hope that the passion with which I love Avalon will lead other fans to forgive me for what I wrote, and know that I join them in eagerly awaiting the next studio album, which I pray will be THE album that will make me proud to be an Avalonian.
- After the truly awful 'Stand' and 'The Creed', I didn't have too high hopes for this recent release from Avalon. Thankfully the tendency to over sing songs and the heavy handed, rock orientated production that marred these previous two releases has been toned down a little.
Although I miss the sparkle of albums such as their 2001 'Oxygen' release, there are some good songs here that are worthy of a mention. These include the title track, 'Place In The World' and ' Thy Word'.
A reworking of one of their biggest hits 'Testify To Love' does seem a little pointless and hints that this talented foursome may be running out of fresh ideas.
- Any misconceptions or apprehensions I had about Avalon's renditions of some of my beloved Christians classics were quickly dismissed as soon as the first song played on this CD. Avalon lend their great harmony and talent to make these songs sound refreshing and beautiful, yet still faithful to the original composition. There are no disappointments on this album; it was even fun to hear on of their own classic song "Testify to Love" redone.
My favorites: God is in Control, Solid as A Rock, and Another Time-Another Place.
I haven't pursued to check out the "bonus" portion on the CD yet on my computer, so I cannot comment on that part. Other than that, Avalon did a beautiful job with this album.
- As usual Avalon hits its mark. The harmonies are tight and each song showcases some aspect of their collective talents. Either I was reacquainted with songs from the past (Place in this World, For the Sake of the Call) or I was introduced to songs that I missed the first time they were hits (Addictive Love, The Basics of Life). The messages of these songs are outstanding and delivered with heartfelt emotion. The classic song that should have been added due to its impact early on in the "Jesus movement" was Easter Song. That song is tailor-made for their voices!
This is a 4 out of 5 stars for the bonus content. I know some people like the whole "enhanced cd" marketing, but I don't like having to put myself on a database just to access the hidden treasures. I wish they could have just put "Praise the Lord" on the album instead of making you jump through hoops to get to it. I am still getting spam from yungsemaj.com as a result of trying to access that song and it has been months.
- Another Time, Another Place by Avalon is a good way to revisit some of the greatest Christian songs of all time. "We Will Stand," "Friend of a Wounded Heart," "El Shaddai" and others can easily be regarded as some of the most memorable and enduring compositions ever performed by Christian artists. Here they are interpreted for a new generation by one of Christian music's premier vocal groups.
Those familiar with the songs may be surprised at how revved-up they sound. Some have a rock edge like "For the Sake of the Call," which actually sounds better than the original. Modern production and arrangements have revitalized the songs so that they are not as sleepy as the originals might sound to today's generation.
None of this should be taken to mean that the songs are significantly different. The excellent "People Get Ready" has the same strong gospel vibe. "We Will Stand," another highlight, features guest vocals by Russ Taff and a choir. "People Need the Lord" is as beautiful as ever. "Place in This World" is still moving after all these years. It's also great to have a new version of "Friend of a Wounded Heart," a Wayne Watson song that is probably underrated.
Most arrangements work well. Two possible exceptions are "Thy Word" and "El Shaddai," which are more experimental in the hopes of making these familiar songs sound fresh. Some may find the prominent programmed percussion on "El Shaddai" bothersome. "Thy Word" is better with a loop that is more subdued.
Sadly, due to a heart condition and a recent vocal ailment, this will be the last recording to feature Jody McBrayer, one of the original founders of the group. Jeremi Richardson has taken his place. Janna Long, the last original member of the group, said that the group has no plans to disband, "We will continue to move forward in our ministry as long as God opens doors for us to do so."
The last track is an update of the group's signature song, "Testify to Love." It's a fitting conclusion, and it may be the best track on the recording.
They still have strong voices, excellent harmonizing, intricate arrangements and a modern pop sound. When you combine that with the group's strong ministry focus, there's a lot more testifying that they can do.

- Absolutely wonderful gospel songs that I would NoT be without! Exellent & came timely.
- I LOVWE THE MISSISSIPPI MASS CHOIR AND THIS CD. THIS CD HAS THE CHOIR HIGHEST AND BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD. I LOVE ALL THE SONGS. EVEN THE ONES THAT I NEVER HEARD BEFORE I STILL LOVE. THE MISSISSIPPI MASS CHOIR IS THE BEST. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GET THIS CD. IT IS WORTH YOUR MONEY
- This is an excellent CD for multiple reasons. Primarily, the presence of God was felt while I was listening to it and it was evident that that choir is anointed by God. The sound quality of the choir in this CD is excellent and music is outstanding. The singers are also superior to other mass choirs, especially their soloistic abilities. The CD is very fluid and connected, much like a live CD. The length of the CD is ideal and some of the songs remind me of the old, C.O.G.I.C.-type of church. Overall, this is a superior CD and a must to buy.
- These songs were good. I especially like "I Remember Mama" because it brings back some of the times I shared with my mother and how she kept our family together. Great collection of gospel songs.

- Actual I'm Kentucky Dave's wife and Vern Gosdin is in the top 5 of my male artist. His voice is a one in only. For anyone out there that has never heard Vern's beautiful voice needs to give him a listen. So many of the older great singers are being pushed aside for what ever this so called country music of today. This CD is a great CD like all his CD's,but this one has special meaning to me.The songs on this CD are very uplifting and the background vocal and music is great. I especially recommend this CD if your going through a trying time in your life.I had this CD before and loaned it out and never got it back.I had tried many stores and couldn't find it,so I turned to Amazon.com I might add that i received my CD much faster then I thought I would.Very good service Amazon.Thank you Jan
- Vern Gosdin has a unique voice, I love listening to him. Wish he would make more albums.
- This is on of the best gospel album's I have ever heard / I would recomend it to anyone. This man has a tremendous voice. I can see why they call him the voice
- It's great to see this album available on cd. Any fan of Vern Gosdin - which should mean any fan of great country singing - will love hearing the Voice in fine form. However, I found the '80s production to be stiff, almost freeze-dried on some songs. Nevertheless, the lead and harmony singing are so heartfelt and beautiful, and the price is so good, that if you are at all a fan of Vern, this is certainly worth the price.
- This is a great concept and timeless recording from one of the greatest country singers of all time. It bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary gospel and will appeal to gospel, country and bluegrass followers. Recorded in the early 80's and just recently released on CD, this recording is as fresh and natural as this morning's dew. Shining bright on this recording are the tight bluegrass harmony vocals which pepper up each tune and the slick guitar work of Ray Flacke. An exceptional effort !

5 comments about The Very Best of The Winans.
- The Winans CD is a must have. Song after song puts a smile on my face. My Winans collection would not be complete without this one.
- Ever since my dad first bought their tapes in the mid- 90's, I've been listening and loving the harmony of The Winanas. I think I know every song because every song is different and you can't help but join in when they sing. The ballads, gospel that is, are so moving and the duets with Vanessa Bell and Anita Baker are wonderful. if you have never heard these men sing, you're missing something so melodious and mind blowing. I'm telling you if a kid at the age of 10 can fall in love them, then you can too. I love The Winans Music!
- The question is... should you buy this CD? The answer is YES!
I have loved the Winans from the first time I heard them back in the early 80s. It is such a blessing to have a CD like this full of some of their best songs which give praise to the Lord and are a great witness. I had actually forgotten many of the song titles but was prompted to get this because I wanted a CD version of their song "Tomorrow", one of the greatest witness songs ever written in my opinion. Well, I got it and so much more! After hearing certain notes, the songs came back to me & I was so glad. I had missed those songs over the years and they uplifted me immediately.
The Winans were the precurser to the contemporary gospel music of today but still highlighted their traditional roots. If you like gospel music or even r&b with a purpose, I don't see how you could possibly not like this CD. You'll play it over and over and it will minister to you. Songs like "The Question Is", "Uphold Me", "Restoration" & "Ain't No Need to Worry" (w/ Anita Baker) are some of my most favorites. But, honestly, I love all the songs on this CD. So, get your praise on for real and get this CD! I very highly recommend it.
- I LOVE THIS WHOLE CD. I LIKED THE WINANS THEY WERE A GOOD GOSPEL GROUP. THEY MADE SOME GREAT GOSPEL MUSIC AND I ENJOY ALL OF THE SONGS THAT ARE ON HERE. I REMEMBER WHEN MY MOM USED TO PLAY THESE SONGS I LOVE ALL OF THESE SONGS ON HERE. THIS IS A GOOD DISC I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BUY THIS CD IF THEY ENJOY THE WINANS OR IF THEY LIKE GOOD GOSPEL MUSIC. THIS IS A GREAT CD AND EVERY SONG ON HERE IS GREAT.
- what got me into the Winans was "It's time" the cut they did with Guy.Teddy Riley truly turned that track out with the Winans bringing the Grit&Soul."Friend" was also my cut with them&Aaron Hall.but My Main cut is "PayDay" with R.Kelly.that song truly hits.also Vanessa bell Armstrong&Anita Baker make solid tracks with the Winans as well.this is a Must have collection who truly touched me with there Gift.

- This item has come and I purchased it for my mother-in-law. She likes it vrey much.
- Daniel O'Donnell is better than wonderful and yes he is handsome and Mary Duff is beautiful. If you are a DOD fan then you must have this one. I agree they showed the audience quite a bit but I enjoyed seeing everyone so "into" these songs. This DVD does not have the fun stuff that I like between DOD and MD but I understand that. You could tell for sure that his heart was really into this show. It was nice seeing his mother and Majella there too.
- I thought this was a wonderful tape.Daniel is a wonderful singer and very good looking!!!!!!!. I wished they would of showed him more than the audience. I first saw Daniel on PBS and fell in love with him. I can't wait to see him in Branson this November.
- IF YOU LIKE DANIEL O'DONNELL, YOU WILL LOVE THIS NEW LAVISHLY PRODUCED DVD WHICH IS ALREADY RELEASED IN THE UK. FILMED AT THE HELIX THEATRE, DUBLIN IT FEATURES A 65 PIECE ORCHESTRA, 70 STRONG CHOIR, TOP LONDON GOSPEL GROUP THE OMEGA SINGERS AND OF COURSE, THE BEAUTIFUL MARY DUFF. - i love this album! i think Truth continues to concentrate on delivering different messages, all Biblical, with his amazing flow and great beats. i like this album a little better than "Open Book", where it's apparent that he was making beats to appeal to a wider audience(i don't much like crunk, or Southern rap, but, to each his own right?), so for me, personally, i couldn't get passed those beats to listen to the lyrics. however, THIS album is on repeat over and over in my car-i've had it for 2 months now. bottom line? amazing lyrics, catchy beats, and great messages-i haven't listened to secular rap since i got this album!
- This dude is truly blessed. You can't listen to this music and tell me its not of Christ. This is one of my favorite rap albums. Rap tends to be harder to listen to for people who are used to other styles but, it offers something that most other genres don't and that's the ability to get a message across with so much contents in it. You can tell a whole story in one song.
- A christian rapper who knows his stuff, and is only worried about getting the message out. Great stuff!
- Every song on this album is reppin' Christ to the fullest. Da Truth is definitely one the best Christian hip hop artists out there. Love this cd!!!
- Highly recommended. "Da' T.R.U.T.H. is an extremely intelligent young man. In the age of "hip-hop," Da' T.R.U.T.H. has the ability to speak to our young people while still maintaining a standard. It's Rap, but, he does not look like the typical "rap artist." His pants are not sagging, nor does he look like a "thug." I was extremely impressed. His music didn't glorify him, but, every song glorified Christ and directed you to the Father.

5 comments about Crystal Clear.
- This is the BEST CD Jaci has made! It is very exciting Latin music. It is a Christian recording, but will hold the excitement of teenagers. I know, because I bought one for me, one for my grandaughter for her birthday (she loved mine so much and she's 14), and one for her boyfriend who had been listening to his sister's CD and had been wanting it! He is 15! If you like fast, exciting Latin music, by all means, don't miss getting this one!
- The lady can sing, but her "Christian" message is compromised because of her part in "Chasing Papi", where she played a woman who - had she had the chance - would have hopped into bed with her on-screen boyfriend prior to marriage. It's "Crystal Clear" to me that Jaci broke my heart in a million pieces when she played that part. It's really tragic to see such a beautiful young lady with such a opowerful voice and message now reduced to nothing more than a hypocritical wannabee, much in the same way that Stacie Orrico is now becoming.....and is it just me, or is it coincidence that these two womens' album covers look strikingly similar? It appears their paths in life are similar, too: compromising a message and a stand that once set them worlds apart. As with a recent review of Orrico that I made, I'll give Jaci Velasquez her due: she can sing, and what I mean by that is sing the roof off of a house! This album was excellent.....was. Now, whenever I think or hear of Jaci Velasquez, I can only think one word: HYPOCRITE.
- Jaci Velasquez is a young singer who has a great voice and a great start to her career. Although she doesn't write all her songs, she does quite a lot of them and I think they're great, and nobody's gonna change my mind. I have several of her CDs and this is one of my favorites. Just so you know, I think the samples they chose here are horrible and I think you will like the CD a lot better unless you are just one of those people who can't be pleased and critisize everything, like some people who have written on here.
- ok heres the deal. jaci is an average singer that has a hype of this superwonderful voice and powerhouse. it's not true. her voice is nice at best and her songs are (generally) trite and simple, with melodies stolen from current pop songs (tell me you can't sing Jennifer Lopez's (don't get me started on her sub-par singing voice)"if you had my love" to the chorus of jaci's "every time i fall". if i was j.lo's agent i'd sue). this isn't her only song that does this, but i can't remember anymore so it's hard to believe me, i know. :) I had (notice - HAD) the enhanced version that encluded exclusive interviews (!!) with jaci at home. it was all so touching...anyways. so i got "special insight" to the song on the album. she said everyone but her didn't want "crystal clear" to be on the album but she insisted. too bad she didn't listen. its one of those confusing songs that leaves you thinking "wait...are you talking about God...or your boyfriend?!?" if you wanna sing a love song (which CC most assuredly is) than DO it! don't try to pass if off as singing to God, cuz it just comes off as a little weird and confusing. and I don't have enough time to get started on "Adore Adore Adore Adore...etc etc etc" what she needs is a window (ok ok it's a bad joke sorry). but actually i like to use the door when i hear that song. i don't recommend this to ANYone! if you MUST get a jaci cd, then i hesitantly suggest "unspoken"(also a kinda dumb song but 2 to 3 star cd). ok im done.
- This was sooo great. I borrowed this CD from a friend and after a few listens i was stunned. The first time i listened to it, I found it kind of slow, but the more i listened, i found the lyrics helpful, and i found i was almost entraced with it. i reccomend this. i really do.
