  1. I cant say how blessed I am to have purchased this item. Israel and New Breed are annointed and gifted, and they have blessed millions around the world, but the experience in South Africa is hard to put into words.
Songs such as Alpha & Omega, Not Forgotten, I Will, and featuring Jonathan Butler was a true treat. In addition to the DVD, I had to get the cd so I can hear the music whereever I am!

  2. Excellent! Awesome! are the words to describe this Album by Israel and New Breed. Pure Excellent!!!! Takes me into the presence of the LORD.
    Thank you Israel!

  3. Israel and his crew were blessed to be on the Mother Land. I truly enjoy the song "All Around me". The beat; the words; the sound. Just awesome.
Dr. Israel King,Ph.D. Author of How To Keep A Man

  4. I am extremely pleased with this item. It is actually one of the best purchases that I have made from Amazon. I plan on ordering some copies for friends and family in the future.

  5. I feel like I'm in Africa. My baby-cousin bought this cd home from college, and the tears will not stop. It is filled with the spirit--you can hear and feel the power of the spirit in this music. I had never heard of Israel before this, how blessed--Wow! That's all I can say.

  1. This recording is absolutely off the chain. I keep listening to it over and over again. You can feel God's Spirit moving through each song. I Loved it!

  2. This CD is food for the heart...and the head.
I am neither a traditional Christian nor belong to an organized religion
but am a music lover, student, and instructor who has been pulled up by this CD.
    Rodney Frazier (producer),
    Arthur Dyer (music director)
and Kirk are the real news...12 years after the fact.
To say that this material has stood the test of a decade would be gross understatement. The arrangements are outstanding, harmonies phat and tight.
Fun as the newer hip hop material is (through which I discovered the earlier work), Kirk is so solidly a proponent of the original idiom... as well as an extension of it.
Wow.The first and last cuts on the CD are the ones that I play over and over.
I haven't used them up yet.

  3. This album will make you a christian if you are not one. The songs are uplifting and praise filled. Lord knows you'll love it. My whole family does.

  4. KIRK FRANKLIN IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE GOSPEL SINGER IN THE WORLD. HIS MUSIC IS SO AMAZING AND I LOVE ALL OF HIS SONGS.THIS CD IS A CLASSIC. THIS IS HIS DEBUT ALBUM AND FOR A DEBUT ALBUM HE DID AN AMAZING JOB. I LOVE THIS ENTIRE CD. ALL OF THE SONGS ARE AMAZING AND THIS IS ONE OF HIS BEST CD. YOU ARE GETTING YOUR MONEY'S WORTH SO GO OUT AND BUY IT. IF YOU LOVE KIRK FRANKLIN THEN YOU WILL TURLY LOVE THIS ALBUM.

  5. This is the must have Kirk Franklin CD to add to your gospel collection. Even though it came out over 10 years ago, this is still my favorite CD of his. As much as I am a Kirk Franklin fan, this is the one that I can listen to straight through without using the skip button. If you don't have it, get it. If you already have it, listen and enjoy it again.

  1. Another great cd by stryper. What else coud I say. The cd is as great as the cassette. A must for anyone collecting christian metal music. Just like I remember when they first came out. They know how to get the message accross. They really rock.

  2. "To Hell With the Devil" and "Soldiers Under Command" are both classic Christian rock album but which one is better? At least from "To Hell With the Devil" Stryper often plays more songs than "Soldiers...". The Devil's 'nightmare song' "To Hell With the Devil", "Calling on You", "Free", "The Way", and their greatest hit, the ballad, "Honestly" are played probably in every gig they have had in 00's. Also "More Than a Man" and "Sing-Along Song" are very often in the set lists. This album reprents everything that Stryper has to offer: heaviness, tenderness, a great message, and great songs with great playing and singing. Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, Timothy Gaines, and Oz Fox are truly God's soldiers. However, there's more great songs that just those seven I mentioned at first; "All of Me" is a great beautiful ballad, "Rocking the World" really rocks, and "Holding on" is also a good song, although quite basic stuff for Stryper. "More than a Man" could be called "To Heaven With Jesus" also because if you sing it and mean what you sing, you're soul will be saved. Great album, I recommend this together with the album "Soldiers Under Commandment" because they both are Christian metal classics.
Stars: Honestly, To Hell With the Devil, The Way, More Than a Man

  3. I had heard of Stryper in the 80s, then in the 90s they were about as 80s as totally 80s gets. Then they made a comeback this decade. This is their best aklbum, featuring the huge hit Honestly with a woman on vocals. The rest of the album is more straight forward metal, not really Christian lyrics all the time but condemning Satan. I picked up the Roxx Regime which contains Yellow and Black Attack and Honestly, and the only track better than hOnestly on there is From Wrong to Right. Abyss the opener gets things going, a joke their not. With this album they have gotten rid of most of the 50s influences into a much more EMO Poison meets Slayer tongue in cheek Christian metal band with a "we're the Christian metal kings" humor. Don't miss it!

  4. Come on, admit it.... you remember the old days when MTV actually played music, watching the Stryper videos playing and rocking out to the music.

I got the urge to hear some of their classic hits again, so I picked up the first four CDs via Amazon. I fully expected to listen to them now and think, "Huh, I remember them being so much better than this...."

I was wrong. Their original songs still rock as hard today as any other band out there in their sound genre. They didn't go for half the gimicky sound that some of the bands had, they just stuck to a standard rock & roll formula that worked, and it sounds just as great today as it did back then.

Well worth the meager price paid for the CDs. ;-)

  5. If you want to hear Styper hungry, but polished: driven, but uncompromising lyrically...then this is your album. Listen to the song More than a Man. These guys were big in the secular market in 1986, but this song gives praise and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ himself. It's a wonderful album!

3 comments about How Sweet the Sound: My All-Time Favorites.

  1. This CD was purchased for my mother in law, and she has been enjoying it every day.

  2. I am 60 years of age and wanted a good album of GBS which would remind me of my earlier years. I am somewhat disappointed with this because it is a fairly recent recording (late 1990's) and the great singer sounds a bit tired, his age reveals itself in his voice. There is no doubting however the quality, even of the older man, but for me I will continue to hunt for earlier recordings. The selection of pieces can be very subjective but I think the fan of GBS would be very pleased with the tracks laid on this CD. In addition the way he overcomes the weakness in his voice by slight modifications both to pace and range of note is very tastefully done.
Like all of his music this too will grow on you if you give it time.
If this was all there is I would buy it... but I know there is better... somewhere.

  3. I happened to listen to Bev Shea from Bill Gaither's Home Coming Series. What a wonderful man & his songs. They stir my spirit & soul. The words have deep meaning. I would recommend any buyer who has some classic taste to get this album and listen & sing along realising the words. May GOD Bless such people and give them long life and raise more people like Bev Shea for HIS glory.

I am buyer from India. Thanks for the wonderful job done by Amazon. The packing was excellent. Although it took a long time around 1 1/2 months to reach my place, it reached us safe.

May Jesus our Lord & Saviour be glorified by the talents that he has blessed us with.

    Thanks

  1. Comparing Thankful and Mary Mary, my favorite is Thankful!! Couldn't listen to Incredible yet. Its not available here. Nevertheless, still listening to this one and am not fed up with it. ;))

Love you girls!! Keep it up!

  2. A friend of mine played this CD at a car wash we had, and I was hooked on hearing it that one time. Track after track, Mary Mary comes at you, bringing creativity, fun and great music to your eye. Its a great CD. I has to buy it...and this purchase was the first CD I had bought in quite a looooooooong while!

  3. Every song on the CD is a hit! This is the best gospel CD I have purchased that has 99% of the songs on it that are good.

  4. I love MaryMary a lot but this CD wasn't doing it with me. Their two previous efforts were definitely better with "Thankful" being their best. The album wasn't long enough, buy the time you was getting your praise on, the album was done. The songs weren't as relatable to the younger crowd than "Thankful". The best songs on the album are "Heaven", "Yesterday", and "Save Me". It was a decent effort, but I would like to see the old MaryMary back.

  5. I LISTEN TO THIS CD WHEN IM IN MY DARKEST HOURS, WHEN IM CLEANING UP THE HOUSE OR DRIVING IN THE CAR VERY INSPIRATIONAL

  1. Much has been published about Elvis and just when you think you have read, seen and heard it all, along comes "He touched me". It shows the spiritual side of Elvis, a side he maintained throughout his life, a spirituality that is demonstrated in this dvd. I thoroughly recommend "He touched me" to one and all.

  2. Gospel was a big part of Elvis' life and this DVD explores that side of him indepth. I've seen this wonderful DVD about 5 times and each time it brings tears to my eyes. I liked hearing the stories about him and I wish he was still around, but he lives on in all of our hearts.

  3. No one sings gospel like Elvis. This DVD gives a history of the influence of gospel music on Elvis' life. God loves a joyful noise, but in Elvis' case, God enjoyed hearing gospel music at its best, rather than the noise of the untalented. This DVD is a must-have for any Elvis fan! *****5 stars!

  4. I really loved this video. I found it very moving and it showed a side of Elvis that is often forgotten - one of his roots and of his special relationship with God, and the true man he was. I would recommend this to anyone interested in seeing the real Elvis.

  5. If you're an Elvis fan, then you need this DVD. His Gospel music is by far the best their is.

5 comments about Christopher Parkening - The Great Recordings ~ By America's Preeminent Guitar Virtuoso.

  1. If you are a fan of classical guitar than this is a must own set. I enjoy every moment.

  2. I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves music--period! Christopher Parkening is unquestionably one of the greatest classical guitarists of all-time. He embodies personal excellence like no other and is a brilliant artist. This CD is a must-have for any classical enthusiast. My favorite pieces include: Tárrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," "Romance," Bach's "Prelude No. 6," and Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez." There are other versions of these pieces as well, but I always prefer Parkening's renditions, as they are oh so extraordinary--especially the recording of Aranjuez!! Other guitarists never seem to capture the essence of Rodrigo's musical masterpiece (e.g., Göran Söllescher in "Mad About Guitars"). But Parkening did! And the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was a perfect accompaniment.

This CD is definitely worth buying. Included is a CD booklet, which illustrates the history of Parkening's illustrious career, interesting tidbits about all 25 recorded pieces, and several photos of his early life to his "breathtaking performance" at Rodrigo's 90th birthday celebration at the Royal Festival Hall in London, 1992.

  3. I am not going to go into great detail. I am working on a degree in classical guitar and I can say this is something to strive for. His musical interpretation of the peices represented here are some of the best I've heard. His tone, color, and phrasing is incredible.

  4. In guitar ` s playing there have been many renowned performers, gifted of exuberant technique. But curiously the Apollonian playing is not by itself strictly enough. The guitar is the instrument which is closer to heart as any other one. It demands from you passion and sentiment. There have been three well known guitarists, one of them from England and the other one from Spain and the third one from Japan whose sensibility was totally absent in their performances.

But fortunately for us, there have been notable interpreters that have been maintained a desired balance and contrast between brain and heart, achieving great distinction and total acknowledgement around the world. I would name eight primordial names along the instrument `s story. First of all: the mythic soloist Andres Segovia, Agustin Barrios (El Indio Mangore),Regino Sainz de la Maza, John Williams, Alirio Diaz, Manuel Berrueco, Siegfried Behrend and Christopher Parkening, among the most representative ones of a great list.

Christopher Parkening `s career has made a brilliant colorist, an impeccable and sensitive interpreter of this well reduced repertoire. His profound artistic conviction and convincing phrasing has been a perpetual motive of constant invitations and presentations around the world.

  5. A friend recommended this CD set to me after I mentioned that I enjoyed classical music. I was blown away when I heard it--I had never heard anyone play guitar like this. Parkening's use of the guitar more closely resembles a harp or harpsicord, but not a six-stringed instrument. I cannot think of enough superlatives to describe these CDs. Buy them, you won't be disappointed.

4 comments about Legacy...Hymns & Faith.

  1. great old hyms sung like an angel. amy grant at her best.

  2. I have been a fan of Amy's for quite some time now. i was very pleased to see that she made the leap back to here roots in this CD, however, i was disappointed when Amy decided to break songs up. "It is Well" would have been more beautiful on it's own. Amy also did this with some other selections which didn't seem to do justice to some of these very old hymns.

Amy in my opinion did it right on the second CD of old and favorite hymns letting each song stand on its own. It was far more pleasing to listen to the second CD.

  3. As Amy Grant fan, I pretty much love everything she does. However, this album did a good job of bringing new life to some old favorite hymns. While I enjoy listening to this at home, I find that I will often use it for background music at church (gathering, communion or after the service). It is a great album for pastors to have in their collections as well as Amy Grant fans.

  4. This is a wonderful collection of old time Christian songs of faith from Amy Grant. Magnificently produced by husband Vince Gill, it is at once artistically beautiful yet simply presented so that the words of faith are not overpowered by the productions. Grant made this album to commemorate her roots in Christian music and has lovingly rendered all those songs she sang as a child in church with her grandmother in a manner that would make her proud. It is gentle and soulful and the selections are perfect.

    1) "This is My Father's World"-This song has a ferris wheel kind of rhythm that ponders on the happiness of living in God's world in all its beauty.

    2) "My Jesus, I Love Thee"-There is a Scottish Highland kind of feeling to this selection as Amy sings of love for Jesus.

    3) "Softly and Tenderly"-Amy perfectly captures this haunting call for the weary to "come home" to God.

    4) "I Need Thee Every Hour/Nothing But the Blood"-The heartfelt "I Need Thee Every Hour" blends effortlessly into the rollicking tent revival duet of Amy and Vince on "Nothing but the Blood" that will have you feeling as though you should be up on your feet and clapping your hands together.

    5) "What You Already Own"-I am not sure if it was intentional or coincidence, but I could not help thinking of how Amy was abandoned by some in the Christian community for not being perfect. This gentle lament of sometimes being unfaithful and doing wrong and looking to God for strength shows his spirit remains with those with faith, which is played out by our lives.

    6) "It is Well With My Soul/The River's Gonna Keep on Rolling"-This beautful blending of songs has a flow like a river itself as Amy sings of God's love being like a river that keeps forgiving and makes us realize it is not possesions that are our legacy, but ourselves.

    7) "Do You Remember the Time"-This song is a longing for the innocence we all once had and an encouragement to hold on to how we once felt, when we were kids, and heaven seemed real.

    8) "Fields of Plenty/Be Still My Soul"-A melancholy guitar solo turns into a haunting admonition to leave things in God's hands, culminating with a voice over by Amy that is heartrending.

    9) "Imagine/Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus"-Amy's imagining what it will be like to see and be in His Glory ends in the brief ode to her love of Jesus.

    10) "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"-This great church hymn with it's terrific background vocals and country flavor makes you feel like you driving by an old country church during a different era.

    11) "Fairest Lord Jesus"-This is a guitar driven song of uplifting praise, and once again, makes you think of being in church.

    12) "Holy, Holy, Holy"-This is a beautiful song of love for God that is like looking out over a glorious vista of His creation.

    13) "What a Friend We Have in Jesus/Old Rugged Cross/How Great Thou Art"-Traditional church songs are beautifully melded together and offer a nostalgic longing for the faith of simpler times.

    14) "Marching to Zion"-The ending of a church service and that Scottish Highland feel return as Amy ends this wonderful album with an uplifting church hymn, choir and all.

This is a truly wonderful collection of songs born of faith that has a special feeling of old churches in the country and gatherings in small towns to sing praises. It is a very special CD that crosses boundaries and can be enjoyed by anyone who loves music.

It is a reminder to those of us who are jaded and world weary, who have stood next to the darkness and in it, who have seen a little too much, that good still does exist, as does hope.
