5 comments about Alive and Transported (CD/DVD).

  1. This cd rocks! This is Toby at his finest. All his best on one cd plus some greats from dcTalk. The dvd of the concert is great. I listen to this all the time. If you are a fan of TMac, this should be your next purchase.

  2. Toby Mac is phenomenal at really portraying the Christian life as it should be: an everyday party celebrating our Lord Jesus Christ. There should be no if's, and's, but's about it, we need to enjoy being Christians and Toby and the Diverse City Band are a great example. Buy this CD/DVD pack and you'll be ready to "Turn On the Ignition."

  3. The live performances were incredible, the best I have been to, so when I heard they were making a DVD I could not wait.
Its just a very high quality production all the way around.

  4. Excellent graphics, music and esp liked the interview with band members. I watch it often for reinforcement of Christian values as well as entertainment.

  5. Concert CD's are a bit hit or miss. Most can succeed by drawing the listener into the audience, and make them part of the experience, with the energy, sing-a-longs and the like. However, if you just do a straight up live CD and don't try to bring the energy or new material, you'll flop every time. Thankfully, when it comes to Christian Music Mistro TobyMac, you don't have to worry about a lack of energy.

During uptempo songs, he'll be jumping on the stage, in the air, and in the concert's most satisfying moment, into the crowd. And it's not just Toby; his band is as energetic and get their party on just as easy, and every member gets their moment. I especially enjoyed Toby's guitarist, Tim Rosenau, with his great work on the guitar and the trumpet. He looked like he was having a pretty good time, getting into the action and the energy, all while strumming at the guitar.

But, to experience this high energy atmosphere, you have to watch the DVD, because this energy is only amplified by the camera works that zips, zooms, jumps, and then zooms again. It's like everybody took a can of Red Bull before starting the concert.

There are some problems with the collection though. You might listen to just the CD portion, maybe twice when you own this collection, even if you're a hardcore Mac fan. By the contrast, the CD actually seems a bit sleepy, and a bit devoid of a jolt. But even if you watch the DVD, there are a few songs that just don't translate to this live CD. "Boomin'" was meant to be boomin' out your car studio in full surround sound stereo in your car. Live, it just sounds like it's missing something.

The song selection is pretty good. All the hits, and a few favorites from DC Talk. However, all those songs you didn't really care for on the albums, your opinion isn't likely to change on them with this CD. While I did like "J-Train" a little better, I only liked that crazy energy with the others.

But wait, that isn't all, I must either criticize the audience, or the sound guy, because when Toby had the crowd sing along to a couple songs, the crowd sounded pretty weak. Whether the mike just didn't catch it, or this was a Monday concert, we might never know.

Overall, a must for Mac fans. It's energetic and you get the feel when you're watching the DVD. And while the CD won't serve you much use, the DVD will be your companion for all those sleepy study nights. I don't know what TobyMac will do next, but he always seems to have something new up his sleeve, and it's usually something pretty good. But next re-mix CD, is going to have a lot of ground to cover.

3 comments about Bebo Norman.

  1. I've been a huge fan of Bebo Norman for the past decade as he has consistently released songs that have touched me such as The Hammer Holds, Tip Of My Heart, Nothing Without You and I Will Lift My Eyes. He is a truth telling folk music style singer-songwriter like Rich Mullins, Derek Webb and Todd Agnew, all favorites of mine. Having recently changed labels to BEC Records, this is his first recording as a new father of his 1 year old son Smith and and it has quickly become my favorite album by Bebo Norman and it is one of my top albums of 2008!

Bebo Norman is richly loaded with personal themes of coming out of depression, prayerful reflection and hope-filled expressions of joy in Christ. This album stands out like Deep Enough To Dream by Chris Rice in that you can't help but root for this album and artist because you can immediately identify with the personal nature of the songs. The first track is a great example. Pull Me Out is a song about Bebo's battle with depression and calling out for God's grace. Hear It From Me is another standout song in that we can all relate to Bebo's prayer. Every song is truly brilliant and personal and the song I can't stop listening to is the first single Britney, written as an apology to Britney Spears for how our culture tells lies about what's beautiful and what will give life. Bebo says: "it is also an invitation to the truth about a God who is bigger than the pain this world leaves us in." It is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard and as a father of 3 daughters, it wrecks me everytime.

Pick up Bebo Norman and you won't regret it. For me this is a 5 star album.

  2. Bebo Norman has an amazing gift to tap into human nature while at the same time reflecting a loving God.

Each new album builds on the one before. He has a supernatural gift (thank you Holy Spirit) of tapping into emotions -- mine included. This creates the sense that the songs become my own individual anthems for life.

  3. Prime Cuts: Britney, One Bright Hour, The Only Hope

In a xeric genre of overused clichés, simplistic answers and theological aloofness, Norman's self titled CD is a gushing oasis. In line with his repertoire of thought provoking songs such as "My Eyes Have Seen Holy," "Be My Covering" and "The Rebel Jesus," these new songs go beyond the veneer of spiritual truths. Not only are they Biblically informed, Norman has a way of applying God's word in stories that are fresh, engaging and piquant. Centering around the truth that God's has the ability to restore the spiritual vacuous Norman (via these songs) applies this doctrine to various facets of life including that of a troubled life of a superstar named Spears on the single "Britney." Vis-à-vis his earlier works which has a folk slant, this eponymous effort has a slicker pop sound with a frequent nod in the edgier rock direction. The ballads are also heavier with a thumping beat except for album closer "One Bright Hour." With just a sparse piano, "One Bright Hour" begins reverently before building up to a glorious majestic crescendo that so enhances the song's message of hope in view of God's coming kingdom at the end times.

Easily the highlight of the album is the aforementioned "Britney." Considering the recent moral plight Britney Spears has had been through, "Britney" is an open apology to the troubled singer of what the media has done: "Britney, I'm sorry for the stones we throw/We tear you down just so we can watch the show/Britney, I'm sorry for the words we say/We point the finger as you fall from grace." But the song takes a step farther with the offer that God has not given up on the troubled singer: "Britney, I do believe that love has come/Here for the broken, here for the ones like us." Delivered with sensitivity and love, this is indeed a magnum opus of how to minister without being preachy, how to reach out without being judgmental. Another song that deals with this theme of restoration of the broken is the heartfelt "Never Saw You Coming;" listen especially to the earnestness of Norman on this exquisitely written ballad.

Of late, no song captures the foolishness of not desiring God a poignantly as the ballad "The Only Hope:" "I want a crumb, but you are a feast/I want a song, but you are a symphony/I want a star, but you are a galaxy/And I have resolved that I'm much better off in what you have for me. Sounding very much like James Taylor with its guitar intro, "Not Living in the In Between" expresses the need for devotion to each other to be more than skin deep; a clarion call especially for today's western Christendom. However, not everything works: "Pull It Out" and "Hear It from Me" suffer from the anonymous guitar-laden rock confection that has been so prevalent in today's contemporary Christian music.

Norman's creative and thoughtful ability to convey Biblical truths are of the highest order. Further, his prophetic stance of not being afraid to speak to current situations is admirable. Nevertheless, at times the melodies of the song tend to trail behind. Also, the leaning towards a more rockish may give this disc a more contemporary edge. However, it also makes a few of the tracks sound like a million songs out there.

5 comments about How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites Live from the Grand Ole Opry.

  1. This is a wonderful compilation of gospel songs. They are definitely old favorites and I am so glad they were finally put together with some wonderful singers on one CD! Brings back a lot of memories for me.

  2. hymns by grand ole opry members, what better music could you asked for? All perfomrmances were fantasic, especially Dierks Bentley's

  3. I like most of this CD. As could be expected, since it's from the Grand Ole Opry, some of the songs lean toward bluegrass and some are a little more hardcore country. Vince Gill and Carrie Underwood are the standouts. I also recommend the How Great Thou Art CD by the Gaithers. Amazon accidentally sent that to me on my first order, but when I saw it, I decided to keep it and reorder this one. They are both worth having.

  4. I did not get to enjoy this as it was a gift for a friend but she
    liked it very much.

  5. Trace Adkins track is fantastic as always and the other male singers do well, however, the female singers didn't sound that great.

5 comments about Toddler Tunes.

  1. My son's face lights up when I play this CD in the car. I like the variety of songs and children's voices. I don't particularly like the children's CDs with adult voices because I think it sounds cheesy (unless its Julie Andrews- only exception). Needless to say, I am really glad I found this one.

  2. I got this CD for my daughter on her 1st birthday. She loves it. Although some songs were repeat from her other CD, it has different lyrics and helps me combine all the different versus when I sing back the song to my daughter. She listens to it daily on her way to day care and enjoys it everytime. I like the fact that all the songs are sung by kids.

  3. I looked a long time for a children's CD that had actual kids' voices, but was understandable and inexpensive. I have a almost 5 year old, 2 1/2 year old and a 7 month old. I mainly bought it for my 2 1/2 year old girl because she loves to sing. She obviously loves it and has fun trying to sing with all of the songs. What was surprising was that my almost 5 year old enjoyed it too. He has Aspergers (a form of autism) and often gets upset when I put new music on. I even found him singing along with a few songs. Quite a miracle for him! The most surprising thing though was that I enjoyed it too and found myself singing along. The songs brought back a lot of great memories when I was a kid and I even learned a few new songs. This is definitely a cheap way to keep your kids entertained without the TV. It was definitely worth the few dollars I paid for it.

  4. This CD has most of the typical toddler favorite songs so my 2 yo enjoys it. The price was right- and it makes her happy- but don't expect spectacular vocals- some of the kids are too young to sing in tune LOL. I don't really see the point of the second set of tracks though....

  5. My daughter is obsessed with this CD. It's so nice to hear a children's CD where the kids can actually sing and it's not irritating to listen to. We can't go anywhere in the car without a Cedarmont Kids CD. The song choices are great, and it's a wonderful change from CDs where either the kids simply yell/sing or adults pretend to sing like kids. Thank you!

5 comments about Remedy Club Tour Edition (CD+DVD).

  1. As others have said, this is a great CD+DVD set. You get a full concert DVD in 5.1, in 16x9 widescreen format and you get an audio CD of the same concert. Both CD and DVD are well produced. Bonus features include a great documentary and little slices of time with each band member showing how they play select parts... I just can't say enough positive about this set, I wish every worship pastor/record artist would put out a package like this.

  2. This DVD/CD is awesome. The rearrangements for David Crowder's songs are phenomenal. I actually like the live recordings better than the studio's. Not only do you get the entire live performance in 5.1 surround sound glory, you get a documentary following the band's tour as well as instructional videos done by each individual band member for the songs.

    The highlights of this performance:

"Neverending"- David Crowder pulls out a modified Guitar Hero Controller that is actually a fully functional musical instrument

"Can You Feel it?" - A trippy techno-esque performance that was DJ'd/mixed on the spot by each band member on stage.

    "Foreverandever etc" - The keytar!

I Saw the Light - DC*B does bluegrass gospel with banjos!

Every song is different and each is awesome in its own way. The lyrics are really inspirational (I love "Remedy"), and seeing the worship live by the entire congregation is a much different experience than listening to the studio recordings. Even better I can take these tracks on my Zune to get through my long days at the university.

Can't say good enough things about DC*B Remedy Club Tour. It's definitely a keeper. Also check out Skillet's "Comatose Comes Alive", their live performance on DVD/CD of the Comatose tour (premiers October 22nd)

  3. Five Stars from the great white north!
Having been to seven DC*B Concerts, and been able to meet with most of the band several times, we can't say enough great things about this combo set! These guys are incredible!
Filming the Remedy Club Tour was a great idea for those of us who couldn't attend their live concerts in the big cities they toured through. We really miss being on the concert path, but not the big city life, so this was a welcome addition to our DVD collection!
    "Our God is here!
    We believe You're here
    We can feel You here
    We can see You here
    We believe You're here
    You are here
    You are here!"

  4. Well, I see that David Crowder himself already chimed in with a comment on another review here. Perhaps we'll be graced with his presence on this one as well.

I've been a huge DC*B fan since the time "Can You Hear Us" was first placed on Christian bookstore shelves across the country. The band has always offered something fresh compared to the rest of the current market / industry, and I applaud them for staying true to who they are and what they desire to be.

The problem for me with Remedy and the Remedy Club tour is that who they are and perhaps what they're aspiring to be, just isn't my cup-of-tea anymore. This isn't their fault, I'm just not as interested in their more recent recordings and creativity as I was in their older releases. That being said, before I get into specific comments on the Remedy Club Tour recording itself, I'll state my thoughts on additional DC*B recordings.

"Can You Hear Us" - I purchased this album and contacted friends and family letting them know that a new artist was on the scene and they needed to purchase this album immediately. It was absolutely fantastic!

"Illuminate" - Wow. This album truly blew me away. On a scale of 1-10 I would definitely be willing to offer this album an 11. I don't believe I've heard this good of an album since Steve Taylor's "squint" - and while nothing may ever top "/Squint", the DC*B sure made the best possible effort to do so. (I'm showing my age by speaking of Steve Taylor, I'm sure.)

"Sunsets and Sushi" - new recordings from Illuminate...sign me up!

"A Collision" - This is different. I like it, sort of. It's certainly creative and I like that the band decided to be a little more artistic and stretch themselves and the listeners a bit. I'll be sure to tell family and friends what songs they'll like.

"B Collision" - more of the same...I'll purchase it. But was it worth the cost?

"Remedy" - Well, we're back to recording an album of songs and not 4 different parts to a bigger story. It's OK, I guess. Too bad it's only got 6 tracks on it that that are new original songs as "The Glory of It All", "Everything Glorious", "O For A Thousand Tongues", and "Rain Down" have all been done before. (minus "O For a Thousand Tongues" by the DC*B...but it's been done.)

"Remedy Club Tour" - Man, with so much great stuff the DC*B has put out there over the past 6 years, I'm limited to hearing mainly the tracks from "Remedy" and "A Collision". How sad.

    My thoughts:

I'm Trying To Make You Sing (A Collision) - This is a great opener for the album. I cannot commend the DC*B enough for beginning the recording with this track. Superb choice!

The Glory of It All (Remedy) - Another great track and recording. I may enjoy the "God of Our City" a little more, but the keyboard part is played correctly on this one. That's a plus.

Can You Feel It? (Remedy) - Don't get me wrong, this is a great track, and I'm glad it's on the album. However, it's got a very similar feel to "Do No t Move" which is far-better in my opinion. Still, I'm glad to have this live recording of it.

Everything Glorious (Remedy) - A good track, and it needed to be on here.

...Neverending... (Remedy) - No offense, but I've never really liked this song. It sounds a little too much like summer camp and doesn't go with other things the band has written. Hearing it live doesn't help.

Here is Our King (A Collision) - Yes, this one also needed to be included. Glad to have it on one pure DC*B live recording and not mixed in with all the other Passion artists. A great song!

You Are My Joy (A Collision) - this track is decent, but certainly not one of my favorites. Having it on the original album and a Passion recording was enough for me.

We Won't Be Quiet (Remedy) - very much like "We Win" from A Collision. Nothing new under the sun with this one...and having it live is OK, but it certainly isn't a standout on the album. Again, I feel like I should be at summer camp.

Foreverandever Etc (A Collsion) - It's OK...but A Collision certainly had some better choices than this one.

A Beautiful Collision (A Collision) - finally, this is one of the best tracks...now we're getting somewhere again.

Never Let Go (Remedy) - I love this song. I really do.

Remedy (Remedy) - The lyrics of this song are spectacular. I'm never one to criticize DC's lyrics. He's a poet, that's for sure. I love to hear an acoustic re-rendered version of this one.

I Saw the Light (A Collision) - Didn't we already get this on the original album and on B Collision? I'm sure this song is a blast to play live and a blast to participate in live. But hearing it on a recording does very little for the vibe that likely happens in a live setting. DC*B -- Please let this one die...

No One Like You (Illuminate) - Wow - they actually decided to put a track from Illuminate on here. Yes, it needed to be included, but why, why, why only two tracks from the best album? It's just sad.

O Praise Him (Illuminate) - Well, this HAD to make the recording. Still, absolutely nothing from "Can You Hear Us" and only these two tracks from "Illuminate". Oh well... at least I've got those albums on hand.

Surely We Can Change (Remedy) - a good track to end with. Our team has done this one live a couple of times with some wonderful multi-media background images to go along with it. A tear-jerker when done well.

    Overall pros:
It's a decent effort from one of the most brilliant lyricists of our time and the DC*B as a whole. I love these guys...I really do. I'll give it 3.5 stars (7 of 10). I rounded it down to help out the amazon 'curve'.

    Cons:
The acoustic feel and flare that was once a staple of the DC*B with some nice melodic electric guitar blends and riffs has died and everything now focuses more on the electric / rocking side of things. This works well for tracks like "No One Like You" but hearing an entire album without any beautiful acoustic guitar work saddens me. I'd love to hear some recordings like the demo of "Heaven Came Down", "Obsession", and many others played live. Throwing in tracks like "Coming Toward" as an intro to something else would be nice, too.

As another person already posted, including the chords on the DVD to have them available while playing is a joke. I applaud the effort, but I agree, when somebody sees that lyrics / chords are included, they expect to see a PDF file they can print out and play along with. I love that the Vineyard "Dwell" album had both the downloadable file and a DVD to watch the artists play along. (This isn't a knock on the DC*B themselves, just the industry as a whole for thinking this is what people really want. Six Step Records should know better. If you want people to purchase the CD and not just download the tracks from itunes, amazon, or heaven-forbid -- the Zune Marketplace, you'd better give them what they want.)

    What I'd love to have:
The DC*B has enough stuff to put out a 2+ hour 2-CD set incorporating old and new recordings into one solid concert. While I appreciate that this was the "Remedy Club Tour" and therefore many tracks from Remedy had to be incorporated, I'd love to hear some throwbacks and have a longer concert to experience. Additionally, mixing the tracks so that one can actually hear DC's acoustic guitar being played would definitely be beneficial. It's sad that a great-sounding musician with great-sounding gear often isn't heard on a recording such as this.

  5. This CD/DVD combo has tons of good stuff for the price of a regular CD. These are some of my favorite features:

-the whole concert in 5.1 surround
-the set list for this show is a great combination of songs from their last few CDs.
-the behind the scenes and "learn the songs" features are awesome for any musician. They all go into extraordinary detail on their setups, right down to walking through each pedal on their pedalboards! (for the guitarists). It's also great to find out about the more unusual instruments they have going on (i.e., toy robot, guitar hero controller, keytar, toy piano, etc.). Even for non-musicians, it gives you a great insight and appreciation for the music they make.

All of this is in addition to the fact that this band is wonderfully innovative and has a great sound on top of deep, meaningful, lyrical content. If you like DCB, you'll love them after this DVD. If you've never heard em, this is a great intro and you'll be left wanting more.

  1. My children spent hours listening, singing and doing the actions to this CD. Great choice as a motivator for kids to learn the songs. Catchy tunes and fun too ..even adaults will find the CD fun too..
    I recommend this CD..

  2. I am so happy with this product. Action Bible Songs One day I was trying to find songs that I could teach to my daughter that had motions and I stumbled upon this one. The moment I started playing the songs, I was completely surprised when my daughter (almost 2), started singing with them! This happens to be the cd they use at her Sunday School Class, or Children's Ministry. She lights up every time we play the cd and sing along! It's wonderful to have the same thing from church to play at home...and for a great price!

  3. I gave these CDs to our moms groups and they love it.
The music is fun and the preschoolers learn songs from the bible.

  4. This is a really nice, positive, energetic CD. When my 9 month old get's cranky in the car I pop this CD in and it appears to calm him. My 4 year old nephew loves to sing along. Great buy for the money!

  5. My Grandchildren love this CD we listen to it most of the time in the car. They know all the words and each have their favorite songs.

  1. I bought their first album and I wasn't too excited about it...BUT THIS ALBUM...BIG IMPROVEMENT! I was skeptical at first because I have seen this at the store many times and wondered if they changed at all...and they did. The voices compliment each other more and the direction is more focused instead of being scattered everywhere...TRULY A TRANSFORMATION. From beginning to end...GREAT ALBUM!

  2. This CD reflects the anointing on James Fortune and FIYA. Every song stirs in your soul. This awesome, musical ministerial work is a must for your gospel collection. My favorite song is "I Trust".

  3. Very nice CD. My favorite songs on the CD are The Blood and There Ain't Nothing.

  4. A very dear friend gave me this CD and I find it awesome! It's uplifting, spiritual, fun, and has variation between the songs. This way, you don't feel like each song is a repetition of the last. My students enjoy some of the songs, and many of the songs just speak to my soul. God's using this one! I highly recommend it!

  5. Whether it's the fast pace songs that encourage you while your going through your Test and Trials, or the slow pace songs that lead you to Worship the KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS, this CD has it all. For those that are not that familiar with James Fortune & FIYA, this CD will make you anticipate their future releases.

  1. Elvis is great ,evey song was very inspirational, i am real pleased with this cd.

  2. There are 3 disks in this "complete gospel" album. While some are wonderful, many are poor as they were only "jamming" sessions and outside of Elvis' vocal range. I'm glad I didn't buy the recording and pay full price.

  3. My grandfather likes it very much. He just transitioned to cds with his new truck.

  4. This is Elvis at his best with the music he loved. With each song, you feel the emotion he sang with. This 3 cd set is the best. I highly recommend it, and to even to those who have never followed his music will feel his love.

  5. Singing Gospel Music. It's what Elvis loved the most, and what he did better than any mortal who ever lived on this earth. This incredible 3 CD set has every Gospel song ever done by the King - The 1 EP, three LPs, live performances, rehearsals, jam sessions. No one could do Gospel Music better than Mr. Presley & of all the various genres (rock, country, ballads, blues, etc.) Gospel was what he loved the best. I could listen to this music around the clock & it would never get old. Whether atheist or Bible Believer - YOU NEED THIS MUSIC - you'll never be the same. Thank you Elvis!!

  1. I was surprised to see that Amazon still had this product for sale. I own the CD and LOVE it! I have yet to see the DVD and I recently found out that it will be awhile before that will happen as the DVD has been pulled from the stores. The following is a direct quote from the Hillsong Australia music website regarding the DVD:

"It was recently brought to our attention that Michael Guglielmucci's illness is not what we have been led to believe. Michael has confirmed that he is not suffering with a terminal illness and is seeking professional help in Adelaide with the support of his family. This news has come as a great shock to everyone including, it seems, his own wife and family.

We were obviously shocked at Michael Guglielmucci's confession that he does not have a life-threatening illness. Because of the visual nature of the DVD, we are removing all footage of Michael and are planning to replace current stock with the re-mastered DVD shortly. With regard to the CD, we are working with our distributors and retailers to assess what further action is required."

Please be in prayer for Michael, his family and our brothers and sisters at Hillsong.

  2. What can I say... I absolutely love Hillsong's music and style of worship, so I just had to add this album to my Gospel/Christian Music arsenal. There are a variety of tracks and I'm sure you'll love them all.

This album is the total package and what I've been waiting for for a while now. If you love to worship, if you love to Praise God, this is the Album for you.

Also if you want to get the full effect of each performance, Get the DVD. Note: Some parts from the DVD are NOT on the CD. When you get it, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Watch it alone, watch it with friends, just WATCH IT! Truly inspiring and amazing to see so many people (young people) praising our God.

  3. I bought this through the Hillsong website as I can never wait until the US release. This did not disappoint. The glory of God was shining through these great worship leaders. Not a bad song in the bunch. My favorite was "Healer." Hopefully the US version will include the documentary on it, because that told an amazing story.

If you are a Hillsong fan, you will not be disappointed in the purchase of either the DVD or the CD.
