5 comments about Greatest Hymns.

  1. I love Selah and their voices. I was disappointed in some of the arrangements of these hymms. They are wonderful hymms but for my tastes some of them were too jazzed up. I would have liked better to hear the beautiful voices of Salah singing the hymms in a more traditional way!!
    thank you

  2. Powerful voices with such deep reverence; amazing renditions of ageless hymns that comfort the soul.

  3. Wonderful CD filled with great harmony. The Hymns have been very refreshing to listen to. Not over done but put together just right.

  4. For me, this was the perfect blend of traditional hymns with interesting musical spins put on them. I especially love the blues-tinged version of Amazing Grace and the African pieces.

I think there's something very likeable and strong about the group -- I just discovered them from a piece on a WOW Worship CD and really enjoy them. Their voices are really good, the piano is great, and I love the harmonies. Their music definitely touches me.

It sounds as though the original trio has partially disbanded. I hope they all get back together and make lots more CDs. I think they're terrific.

  5. I spent quite a bit of money before finding a Christian CD that I really liked. This one is exactly what I was looking for. Every song is as beautiful as the one before it, and they all give you a wonderful feeling inside.

5 comments about Beyond Measure.

  1. Jeremy Camp is one of my favorite soloist. I liked this CD a lot, it has a lot of 4 & 5 star songs on it.

  2. This is more produced than he earlier stuff. THe songs just seem weaker to me. I dont know if it is because he has much more a hectic schedule than writing his earlier stuff.

The album is worth a listen, and had a few hits on the radio.

  3. This album is not as solid rock as his earlier releases. I actually didn't know much about Jeremy Camp at all until I went to the Virginia Beach,Va libraries and checked out his albums about a year ago. I love some songs on this album such as Let It Fade, Give You Glory, and Give Me Jesus but the others sound more like an experimentation with pop or other music styles. I do like artists that have quite a bit of variety and style in their music, but Jeremy Camp is hit or miss. You get the feeling that it's more of been there, done that with other artists that are accustomed more to christian rock. Its good, and I like Jeremy Camp but his songs can't touch Mercy Me's All That Is Within Me album! That album is by far the most impressive in my whole collection so far! More creativity and inspirational songs like the ones I mentioned need to be in there.

  4. J Camp really lays his heart out and rocks yet another album. This is a great cd.

  5. This album is probably the best album I've heard from Jeremy Camp so far! The beats are great, the lyrics are dynamic, and it makes you want to listen to it over, and over. It brings a true inspiration in the believers of God, a must own for any Christian music listener.

5 comments about Remedy.

  1. Each album by DCB is just a little different. This one really mixed it up from what I was expecting. It to me not as user friendly as their earlier stuff, but we all grow in different directions.

  2. Funny, but maybe it takes time for each DC*B release to become my favorite as I didn't love "A Collision" compared to "Illuminate" and I don't love "Remedy" compared to "A Collision", yet. Certainly some songs standout on "Remedy" like "Never Let Go", "Surely We Can Change", "Can You Feel It", "The Glory Of It All" and "Everything Glorious". Another gem by DC*B. I'm guessing in another few months this will be my favorite.

  3. First, I'd like to establish that I have listened to a broad range of music growing up as a classical violinist and pianist. I have listened to all types of "classical" music, world music, secular music through the ages, hip hop, independent artists. I know a lot about music and there is not a song on this album I don't love.
At first I was surprised that this album didn't create a greater applause but understand why now. The vocal style is more 80's rock, not clear and pretty but emotional and good nonetheless. Next, the style in which this album was produced is similar to some energetic electronica sounds popular today that you'd find in secular bands such as Postal Service, Psapp, Bitter:Sweet. I love this about the album because SO much Christian music sounds the same. DCB, however, ventures outside of the stale standard rock band set that it seems these unadventurous Christian reviewers are missing. Last, this is an AMAZING worship album and I don't know how someone can say that it doesn't inspire praise.

    By Track:
Glory of It All - Great for worship. Talks about God's enduring love for us all.
Can You Feel It? - Topic: Can you feel God's presence surrounding you?
Everything Glorious - beautiful love song to God.
---Neverending... -- A fun worship song which points to how God's divine nature and our reason for life centers in His never-ending existence.
Never Let Go - A passionate ballad about God's steadfastness
O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing - Lyrics sound like a hymn but a contemporary mix
Rain Down - An impassioned cry to God set in a minor key
We Won't Be Quiet - Another fun worship song overflowing with God's joy
Remedy - A ballad about how God is the only Remedy for our troubled world
Surely We Can Change - A wonderful ballad and my favorite track on this album (though it's hard to choose). Everyone I think can relate to feeling helpless in the face of the world's depravity. This beautiful song sings as a prayer.

If you are completely adverse to electronic orchestration I can understand disliking this album. It definitely has a lot of energy and should appeal to plenty teenage Christ followers. I have definitely had many wonderful moments drawing near to God with the music and would hate for you to miss out on account of reviewers with obsolete taste in music.

  4. Remedy is no remedy for the poor styling, poor vocal quality, and lack of worship this band brings. The band sound brings a jittery delivery that does not engender worship.

In years to come we will look around and people will say, David Crowder - who? Some of the songs will endure, but only when redone in a truly worshipful style.

  5. 'Remedy' is a well done CD with several good praise songs.

There are few standout tracks, but none are bad either. The best song is 'Everything Glorious'. Perhaps my expectations were too high after his album 'A Collision', but this one just does not seem that impressive to me. It is really pretty average.

For anyone who is not familiar with this group, I would definitely recommend their album, A Collision. It is a 'must have' for any Christian music fan.

  1. This album is my absolute favorite, for several reasons. First, Every song speaks directly to my own heart in every sitution. This music really gets in your soul. Second, It's completly clean, and encouraging. It's not too often hese days you find music that is safe and good for your heart. Lastly, the music is solid gold!! Edgy, passionate, and full of Jesus! I totally rcomend this CD to anyone who loves music. Oh! and it's way better than their other records!

  2. this is a great Christian rock band, if you listen to Lifehouse or bands similar to them, then you will love Barlow Girl.

  3. Casual fans of Barlow Girl may be familiar with their powerful and loving ballads such as "Enough" and "I Need You To Love Me," but purchasing this album will let you in on a big secret: These ladies know how to rock. With the opening cut, "Grey," new fans will realize that the solid lyric and music stylings of the Girls' CCM light hits transitions perfectly into their rock songs. This carries on into songs like "Let Go" and and even pop rockers like "5 Minutes Of Fame."

If you like Christian bands like Superchic(k) or music along the lines of Kelly Clarkson's album "Breakaway" (but more moving and definitely more rockin'), check out Barlow Girl's "Another Journal Entry). They have a couple of other albums out as well, and they are also worth a look.

    Highly recommended.

  4. I absolutely LOVE this album. These songs are contemporary and fun to listen to but the lyrics are still meaningful. There is a great mix of rock and more traditional folk-ish songs, great harmony, and even a little rap stuck in - there is something for everyone on this album. The more I listen to this album, the more I love it! I listen to it EVERY day!!! I highly recommend this album to any christian looking for modern music with strong faith-based lyrics.

  5. Another Journal Entry is another quality CD by BarlowGirl. It combines good rock and roll with solid, positive lyrics. The lead singer has a very beautiful voice.

There are several very good songs on here. Some of my favorites are as follows: Grey, Let Go, I Need You To Love Me, and Never Alone.

This group combines some very good attributes: positive, inspirational lyrics that parents will appreciate with energetic rock that will appeal to teenagers. Actually, their appeal is far broader than just teens. This is good stuff for anyone.

If you are looking for something to buy for a teenage girl especially, I highly recommend BarlowGirl.

5 comments about Christmas Offerings.

  1. I normaly buy 1 CD of CHRISTmas music each year. This one is tied for #1 for my all time favorite CHRISTmas CD's, which is saying allot since I have about 25 other CHRISTmas cd's. Well worth the price...

  2. This is one of the best Christmas albums I have ever owned. I'm a contemporary worship leader for my church, and it can be very difficult to arrange Christmas songs with a contemporary edge. Third Day does it beautifully, and without compromising the heart of the original songs. Not only did I enjoy listening to this album, but I used it as a blueprint for many of our arrangements this Christmas season. Their original songs on this album are also very good. This edges out MercyMe's "Christmas Sessions" as my favorite Christmas CD because of how true they stayed to the original versions, with a Southern rock twist of course! Get this CD, you won't be disappointed!

  3. Christmas Offerings is absolutely an amazing and personal Christmas journey with Third Day. It respresents all that is and all that is hoped for, it is definitely one of the best! Third Day is truly one of the greatest artist in music!!

  4. I have a big stack of Christmas CDs and this is one of my favorites, keeping in mind that what I like in a Christmas album is rock versions of traditional favorites. That's mostly what you'll find here. All the traditional carols are very solid on this disc, and very upbeat.

As is usually my opinion, the original songs are the weaker ones on the album. Christmas Like a Child is completely forgettable, but not to the point that you want to skip it and Merry Christmas goes for the sappiness jugular. It will likely either bring tears to your eyes or cause them to roll so far back in your head it hurts.

The old favorites more than make up for the new tracks and I will be listening to this one all season, and for many more to come. Overall, a great CD.

  1. John P Kee & VIP Mass Choir is on point once again. I find 'FAVOR' in this cd. Carol Thomas sings like no tomorrow on "WINNER" (what a positive title) Ernest Pugh, Jason Nelson and Lejuene Thompson adds so much to this Live effort. Another winner added to my John P Kee collection.

  2. This is album is HOT. Every track takes you a little higher. My favorite is "Your favor." Pastor Kee, keep doing your thing!

5 comments about It's a Wonderful Christmas.

  1. I have most of Michael W. Smith's CD, especially all three of his Christmas CDs. It's a Wonderful Christmas is my favorite out of the three. It really gets the holiday season going. Along with Josh Groban, Michael W. Smith is another artist I'll listen to during the holidays. I prefer Michael W. Smith and Josh Groban over Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby any day.

  2. I don't understand why people just shoving into Josh Groban's Xmas CD. I couldn't stand listen that whole CD.
I guess people prefer HYPE over "substance" and I just love this beautiful W. Smith CD.

  3. I am amazed at any artist that can compose music from scratch and yet somehow attain the beautiful sound of the season. Michael W Smith has definitely accomplished this in his latest album, It's a Wonderful Christmas.

This CD is composed of a selection of all new original songs for the season, written almost entirely by MWS himself. Every song is beautifully composed and reminds us why Christmas is one of the best times of the year.

I recommend this product without any reservations. If you like listening to Christmas music and are not afraid to try something new, this is an excellent selection!

  4. Once again, Michael W. Smith brings us a sweet combination of songs to lift the heart and soul. Easy on the ears.

  5. Michael W. Smith fans enjoy this c.d. full of their favorite hero's best stuff. For some 25 years or so, he has been composing a grand style of orchestral flourishes that I think I would have imagined composing myself when I was say 8 or 9 years old -- if I had known anything about music, that is. I think Michael W. has a glorious musical gift that needs a couple things:
    1) He should not sing his own music. It requires a larger voice.
    2) He needs to find a more solid definitive expression for the sounds he is being moved to put to music. Somehow, there is something better that is not quite getting all the way formed.

There is no doubt that he knows from where his inspiration comes. I would encourage him to spend some time letting the Spirit-to-spirit connection grow stonger and then letting himself be led through different musical expressions to find better ways to reveal it. He might start with other voices and with smaller assemblages of instruments, finding something that is true before drowning it with large orchestrations.

That said, it is still true that folks that have liked Michael W. Smith recordings before will play this one over and over and over. My bride opened it Christmas morning and has been playing it ever since. That must be what "happily ever after" means.

5 comments about Jesus Freak.

  1. This album is awesome! They made music that really spoke to me and how I really am. DC Talk is just a fun group that make good music worshipping God and you cant beat that.

  2. I'm gay*

Now that I have your attention, lemme stop for a second and talk about this great album. This album belongs to the dreaded genre known as Christian rock. But it's still a shining beacon in a sea of nothingness, and it's guiding you to the world of Christianity in the eyes of Talt, Smith, and McKeehan, with a little help from their friends.

Well, before I rant on about the songs, you must give credit to the numerous musicians that led a hand making the infectious music. Not to mention Mark Heimermann, who gets songwriting credits on nearly every song. I think he mostly produced it, but I was a little unimpressed to figure out the three main guys didn't write the songs alone. The thing is, did Mark write it? Fustrating stuff, but I must take of five points for the score. It's my review!

Alright, with everything bad out of the way (that's not much. There's a laundry list for most Christian rock), I got nothing but praise for this album. dc Talk knock down walls on this album, both vocally and musically (at least for christian rock). The editorial reviewer is right, this album is an oddity, and unlike the knocking down walls, the sound itself is one of a kind, in a lot of music. The great thing is how great it actually is. Diversity and breaking of rules means nothing if it sucks. Not the case with Jesus Freak. The music is memorable, dense, catchy, and, it just sounds great. It won't bore you at all.

The vocals, for the most part, are excellent. There's some rapping, soulful singing, and it sounds remarkably their own. Which is great, but they, as a whole, are great singers. Original? Who cares. They sound great together, and that's what counts. While they never played any instruments, they are like a compact, powerful trio, only in vocal form. At least in my opinion.

Finally, the lyrics. Typical lyrics? Nope. There are some great messages on this album, not the typical "I love you god" _____ that so many bands do. Read into them, it tops it. I give more flying _________ about the music.

One cavet though, if you are not a Christian, skip this one. The music may be sensual to you, but it may not affect you, because the music can't move you with the lyrics. Indeed, this was made for Christians (well everybody, but Christians will most likely get something out of this). Atheists will probalely be turned off from it. If you are a Christian, buy it now. Render Amy Grant useless.

    9.5/10

*Not true. Seriously. If I were gay, it would show (not in my music!)

  3. I bought this tape back in the 1990's when it came out. I immediately liked their sound. I have 3 of their CD's now, but this is my favorite. The lead singer has a great voice and their sound is similar to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Good messages as well.

  4. I believe DC Talk to the greatest band to ever walk the earth. Toby Mac is a brilliant producer, and the group as a whole are some of the finest talents you will ever find. Their diversity is profound, as each of their albums conforms to the popular sound of the year it was released, and as such each of their albums is drastically different from the other.

For Jesus Freak, the genre was Grunge/Rock...and this album is UNBELIEVABLY good. Arguably the best they produced. This album is also quite possibly one of the greatest the Christian music industry has ever produced.

  5. 'Jesus Freak' may well be the greatest album in the history of rock music. At the very least, it is the best album in the annals of Christian rock.

It has something for everyone. This collection includes several genres including pop, rock, rap, and grunge. Very few groups could pull off what they do with this album. Most bands are lucky to do one genre well, let alone several.

Among the best songs on this album are the following: So Help Me God, Colored People, Jesus Freak, What If I Stumble, and In the Light. Several others are very good also.

This is an album that never gets old. It is one that is fun to listen to anytime. Highly recommended!

  1. This amazing man combined an R&B flow with Gospel lyrics, making this cd great! I've loved it since the 1st time I put it in my cd player. For those who are attempting to listen to less secular music - this is for you!!

  2. Product was in better condition than described. It also arrived allot sooner than I expected considering I am in Iraq.

  3. I am a a 49 year old christian male who happens to love gospel music. This CD is fresh and hot with R & B influences that can be appreciated by all ages. Canton's ability to Rap and sing is incredible. The music is sweet and the beats are hot. It's a must have that should be added to everyones gospel music collection.

  4. I was greatly dissatisfied when I listened to this CD, I bought it because his first CD was good and yet different, however, none of these songs ministered to me at all, not only that, it was a self-glorifying CD, he made too many references to worldly singers and himself (listen closely). I am so tired of these gospel artists making music as a career and not for ministry. It's alright to be different, but we are suppose to be separate, if I played this loud in my car my neighbors would think I'm bumpin' to the same stuff they listen to. Let's really be about KINGDOM BUSINESS!

  5. This was one of the best (if not THE best) cd I've gotten this year! The lyrics, production, and singing are outstanding. Canton could easily be a superstar if he went mainstream which makes me admire him even more for doing the gospel music thing. My top 3 songs are "Hater Day," "Kingdom Business," and "My Day" but all of the songs are definitely worth a listen. If you're in to good hip hop and r&b you definitely won't regret getting this one! Positive message + positively good talent & faith = a hit cd.

  1. It's a great CD. Glad I bought it. I actually have it at work and listen to it every day.

  2. I love this cd. Love forever Shines is better than I hhad hope for. I had bought it for one song and now there is a few songs I truly like. thank you Amazon for your service. You are the best

  3. I have enjoyed listening to this CD. Although there are a few songs I dislike, the majority are good. I purchased a used CD and I am glad I did. I do not feel this CD is good enough to have paid full price.

  4. even though I consider Regina as one of the greatest female vocalist
singers , this new style of Gospel is not for her, She is more like
soul-love music. I hope she can do something like before, but still
    this album is excellent.

  5. In the late eighties every "Quiet Storm" DJ on the planet was playing "Baby Come to Me," the bellowing slow jam by Regina Belle that seemingly seduced the charts overnight. Into the nineties, Belle manufactured numerous hit love songs -- "Is This Love?," "Make It Like It Was," "Show Me the Way," and "All I Want Is Forever" (with JT Taylor of Kool & The Gang) -- all well written and colored by her feminine tenor tones. Whether in a duet or alone, Regina was the embodiment of soulful grown folks music and one of the most recognizable and celebrated R&B vocalists of that period.
When well-known artists record an album in a genre different from the one for which they're known, it can often feel a bit forced. But for Jazz/Soul vocalist Regina Belle, a pastor's wife who has long been an outspoken believer, the move seems so obvious that it begs the question, Why didn't she take this leap of faith before?
"God says the time is right", says Regina. "He's transitioning me to do a work for him. It was opportune".
The new offering by the acclaimed songstress is a triumphant homage to God's faithfulness through it all, a testament to how His goodness and mercy followed the vocalist all the days of her life, from the cradle all the way through her decorated music career. Most importantly, the album is a tribute to the singer's gospel music heritage--14 songs that speak to the bedrock of Regina Belle's faith, never more evident in the disc's stunning centerpiece, the stirring traditional first single, "God Is Good"
Her contemporary and good friend Shirley Murdock who has walked a parallel path personally and professionally (both were leading ladies in R&B and are now first ladies in their husbands' churches), appears on the album in a duet entitled "I Call on Jesus".
Award-winning Gospel artist, Melvin Williams (Williams Brothers) duets with Regina on the song, "Good To Be Loved" as well Williams' vocals can be heard accompanying her on background on the first single, "God Is Good".
This album will undoubtedly build on Regina's success to date. Her voice embodies so much: wistful yearning, romanticism, sadness, joy and more.
Regina Belle, a noted songwriter in her own right, penned many of the songs featured on the project, while working alongside Chris Walker who produced and co-produced all but two songs on the CD. Musical talent seemingly runs in the family as her brother Bernard Belle, a well-known music industry songwriter, wrote, produced and arranged two of the album's tracks.
The tracks she wrote demonstrate her own writing ability, while her interpretations are fresh and personal.
There is very much the sense of Regina singing these absolutely as she wants, meandering and taking her time over the lyrics in a luxurious fashion.
That's the way I like it though, an artist who can effortlessly evoke feeling no matter what style she embarks on, and while her music all has her signature touch her albums never, and I mean never, falls into the rut of redundancy.
David (Letterman), Jay (Leno), Ellen (DeGeneres), and Oprah (Winfrey) : please, take note of this !
