5 comments about The Archie Show: The Complete Series.
- I have a wonderful souvenir from this famous TV series when I was a child and now, I'm so happy for having this box set released on CD. I think this kind of series is much better than modern TV series for children. Archie's programs have not violence, sex and so forth. It was so inocent, white and I appreciate it so much.
- these are shows i remember as a kid. love to watch them over and over.
- The Archies make their DVD debut in this 2-DVD set from Genius Products, which brings us all 17 original Archie cartoons from 1968.
Archie has a long history, first coming on the scene in 1941 as a character in PEP COMICS and continuing as one of history's most well-known teenagers (six and a half decades later, Archie is STILL 17 years old). This series, created by Filmation in 1968 as a relief from their superhero franchises (Lou Schemier mentions on an interview in this set that "if it had a cape, we did it"), is almost a straight translation from the source material, literally presenting Archie and crew as an animated comic, with the characters themselves speaking directly to the viewer and introducing their own stories. (This would carry over into both the ARCHIE'S FUNHOUSE and SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH series, creating a feeling of involvement in the show for the viewer.)
The series recounts the misadventures of one Archie Andrews (voiced by Dal McKennon), who lives in Riverdale and divides his time between classes at Riverdale High and hanging out with friends at Pop's Chok'lit Shop, the local malt shop and teen diner. His friends include fickle rich-girl Veronica Lodge (Jane Webb), stalwart and level-headed Betty Cooper (Webb again), incorrigible prankster Reggie Mantle (John Erwin) and hamburger fiend Jughead Jones (Howard Morris), plus Jughead's dog Hot Dog (McKennon again), who provides running "thought-commentary" on the various goings-on within the Archies. Most of the stories, which have a definite and possibly deliberate 1940s-50s small-town-life feel, begin innocently enough and escalate into chaos, with a resolution for all parties involved at the end. If you have ever read any Archie comics, you can watch one of these and basically figure out what will happen.
A unique feature (for its time) of this show was its dance-of-the-week and song segments, with various Archies demonstrating and teaching dances to viewers and the group performing songs as a rock band (called The Archies, natch). Most of the song segments predate modern music video by about 13 years, and can be accessed on a "jukebox" feature on the DVDs that allows you to play any song segment at leisure.
The package itself is quite nice, with colorful artwork and an interesting clear-plastic slipcover. The DVDs are designed to look like 45-rpm singles, and the package includes a comic book that reprints an EVERYTHING'S ARCHIE comic from 1969, in which the gang from Riverdale meets the collective brain trust of Filmation Studios (Lou Schemier, Norm Prescott and Hal Sutherland, all excellently caricatured). The video transfers are good for such an elderly series, but the colors are not especially bright.
If you are an ARCHIE fan you will enjoy this set, but the average viewer should be warned: this is very much a time capsule. An excellently presented time capsule, to be sure, but a time capsule nevertheless. Enjoy at your leisure.
- Wow! What a blast from the past. I had grown up with Archie and I can't seem to stop for very long. I had collected the comic digests for a long time and then stopped for a while but then recently got back into it, I grab one or three in the checkout lines of a supermarket and read it until it's finished mostly after I get it with the need to go to sleep for work the next day out of my mind.
So as for the old cartoon. It is dated, that's for sure, there is what I call "cut and paste" throughout a lot of the episodes. (Cut and paste being: using the same animation to save money.) However, for those who liked it back in the day I think it'll bring back some memories causing you to laugh at either how stupid it is or that you just remembered having a good time watching the show.
The journey through memory lane starts at the menu screen where the "Everything's Archie" song is played with some animation of the opening and closing credits. There is nothing--to me, more enjoyable than hearing the song that I remembered the words too after so many years.
This review is personal, the 4 stars I give it are because I do enjoy it, but I'm also an animation snob and once you have quality Japanese Anime such as Cowboy Bebop, Eureka Seven or DearS, watching the Archie Show is like watching the trash that is on late-night on Cartoon Network--actually, Archie is way better than that.
I recommend "The Archie Show" to anyone who loved it growing up, even if it's to watch just once more, it is fun, memorable and enjoyable.
Later...
- I've actually have had this dvd set since the first week it was available. It was exactly what I had expected. The 12 minute shorts were silly and typical for saturday morning shows at that time. I really enjoyed the jukebox menu (except that you could not play all) It would play one video at a time then you would have to select another song. All sounded and looked good except for the last song on disc one called "Hide and seek". It must have been dubbed from a VHS source. It was compressed and had the looks of a video tape. It was great to see and hear these other great songs that get no radio play like Sugar Sugar. I,m actually tired of that song that I skip it on my Archie CD's. The Archies have always been fun to read and watch since I was a kid. I even have my older brothers Halloween Archie custume. I hadn't seen it in 25
years until last fall. Anyhoo, I plan on getting the next Archie dvd "Funhouse" and look forward to some other Archie music vidios. The Archie show is worth getting just for the music videos. I Highly recommend this DVD.

5 comments about Spongebob Squarepants: The Best Day Ever.
- My kids love this CD. We play it in the car and sing with it over and over.
- According to my 7 year old grandson, "Love it! Love it! Love it! Love it!" This is the best song to start the day! The other music is fun, too.
- I dont have enough time to write something about each of these songs, but this cd is great!!! My favorite songs are: The Best Day Ever, Employee of the Month, Barnacles, Doing the Krabby Patty and Bikini Bottom/Rock Bottom. I reccomend this cd to Spongebob lovers.SpongeBob SquarePants - Season 4, Vol. 1SpongeBob SquarePants - Season 4, Vol. 2
- Get ready for an amazing experience that will change your listening habits....then put on this album. The first song is a mind-blower! "The Best Day Ever" seems like a cute little summer fun song but after you get into it you realize that musically it's really heavy! This is like a Beach Boys song that sucks you in with it's cute little beat and lyric and then knocks you out with it's musical sophistication.
The next song is "Employee Of The Month". This is pure power-pop. The Who circa 1966 meets The Turtles.WOW!!!
"Under My Rock" is sung by Patrick. This is classic garage-rock. Rave-up at the end reminds me of The Count Five.
"My Tighty Whiteys" is simply the best song and best production that has been released since the hey day of the Brill Building. Again...this seems simple but it's super sophisticated! My vote for best bridge since "Wouldn't It Be Nice?". Andy Paley and Tom Kenny are a great writing team! This is what's missing from pop music!
There is something for every pop music fan on this album. Guest stars include...Brian Wilson , Mandy Barnett, Nino Tempo , Tommy Ramone, Flaco Jimenez, James Burton , N.R.B.Q., Tommy Morgan , Jerry "The Geator" Blavett
etc..
I never get tired of this record. It's on in my car all the time. I've given it to all my hip friends and they all love it , as do their young kids and their stoner , college-age kids!
It's a HIT!!!!
- my granddaughter truly enjoyed this we often listen to it while doing chores and sing along

5 comments about Baby Einstein Gift Pack Volume 1 (Baby Bach/Baby Newton/Baby Einstein/Baby Shakespeare).
- MY SON SITS IN HIS CHAIR QUIETLY WATCHING THESE VIDEOS WHILE I AM BUSY CLEANING THE HOUSE.
- The creators of these DVD's have done their homework. They really must have studied how to keep the child focused. Excellent!
- We have the Baby Einstein Gift Pack volume 1, that includes 4 tapes - Baby Bach, Baby Newton, Baby Shakespeare and the Language Nursery. It has been a month since my 10 month old daughter started watching these. In fact, her TV time every day is pretty much just the Baby Einstein video time. She started out plainly surprised and it was not clear how she felt about them. Now she is much much more expressive...she loves them! She is actually seeing a lot of things that I teach her using a book. I think her reaction to the different moving colors, shapes and objects is very much along the lines of what effect it was intended to generate in a baby. I watch it with her every time and use it as a tool to teach her a lot of common things. Baby Newton and Baby Shakespeare are very educational. Baby Bach is a delight to watch for her and she particularly enjoys the music. However we did not quite relish the Language Nursery. For babies and kids, I think it is a little too early to hear so many confusing foreign noises, when they are actually still trying to communicate using one or may be two languages . Also, some videos overuse a few toys. There is a repetitive display of certain unappealing toys. Watching my daughter watch it every day, I am convinced that it is worth every penny. I would strongly recommend it to any parent who would like to teach and have some fun TV time with his/her baby.
- My son absolutely loves the baby einstein videos. I'm so glad that they have come out with some wonderful toys and such for little minds to expand. They are without a doubt awesome. I recommend them to everyone. Even those of my friends that don't have babies yet!
- Even I watch! Kids love to see moving toys, bright colors, sound effects, and hear music. Not so impressed with some of the newer ones like Doolittle, and he one with the computer graphics turns me off, but the kids like it. I also bought the Speech Therapy Home Practice Videos Series: R Words All AroundUs, S Words All Around Us, and Vocabulary All Around Us - great for speech therapy practice!

5 comments about Disney's Sing-Along Songs - Happy Haunting.
- ...have loved this sing-along video and continue to ask for it every year. Of course, I started with the VHS, but was so happy to find the DVD a couple of years ago. So, even if some reviewers find this little vid less than stimulating, over 700 elementary music students per year beg to differ.
- Yes this DVD is pretty cheesy and annoying from an adults point of view but my kids LOVE it! My kids are 1, 3 & 5 and everytime we put in this movie they dance, jump and sing through the entire DVD. When they brought it to show their cousins (2,3 &4) all six kids were moving and dancing to all the songs. I think that the kids like that the movie is not completely animated and that the children are real as well as Mickey, Minnie, etc. Regardless of how annoying the DVD is to adults, we do enjoy watching the kids sing, dance and giggle until they are worn out!
- A little scary for younger kids but still a lot of fun and entertaining for the whole family.
- My two and 3 year olds used to be slightly afraid of the scary trees and wicked witch in this DVD, but now they totally love both! They'll watch this video all year long! It's more like one continuous story than most of the other singalongs I've seen. It takes place in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland---there's a Halloween party there. The songs are very catchy and fun for all to sing!
- Contrary to some of the negative reviews, we found this video very entertaining. Give Disney a break! There are some slighlty spooky moments to keep the little ones engaged, and the simple acting and familiar songs are perfect for kids under eight.

5 comments about Drake and Josh, Vol. 1 - Suddenly Brothers.
- I came across this show by chance.
I am middle aged and don't watch kid shows or any cartoons for that matter.
It's embarrasasing to admit, but I love this show. I can't remember the last time I saw such a (new) funny show. The only series I normally watch is "Heroes" but I now have a TiVo season pass to "Drake and Josh". The physical comedy (especially Josh) is hilarious. The pratfalls of these two had me laughing like an 8 year old. Josh's timing and delivery is instinctive. His facial expressions alone will make you howl. I predict he is going to be a big star like Jim Carrey one day --- no, bigger.
When these guys are older, I think they could have a very successful movie career as a comedic duo along the lines of Curtis/Lemmon, Abbott & Costello, Martin/Lewis, Gibson/Glover.
- I became interested in this show after watching a couple of episodes in a local channel. It got my attention because it made me laugh A LOT! Since then I started to follow it and to love it. Ok, ok....it is for kids (and by the way, I am 25), but it has everything you want in good TV -great chemistry between the leading characters, silly and funny situations, simpleness and above all I think what makes it great is that it has charisma- I hope they release more DVD's in the future. Mmmm...another thing I must add is that I think this show got me because I see so much of me in Josh -lol-.Drake's character, on the other hand is quite the opposite, but one can't help but to love them both.
- Drake and Josh Suddenly Brothers is hilarious. It shows us Drake and Josh from the beginning. Drake is not happy about having a new brother because lets face it, Josh is really goofy, but as Drake gets to know him he finds out that he really does love him and from there comedy insues. This movie only has 4 episodes, but it also comes with some entertaining bloopers.
- If your kids are fans of the Drake and Josh TV show, you'll probably want to add this to your collection.
The DVD contains episodes from the series and is typical of this type of program for older kids and pre-teens. Each episode deals with a different topic or situation typical to kids around that age -- though admitedly, some of the issues and situations would only come up if you lived in CA or you were progeny of yuppie parents.
The episodes are highly entertaining and there's good chemistry between the actors. Each episode has an underlying message, but it's never preachy nor so obvious that it feels like they're beating you over the head with it.
My son loves this, and I even find it entertaining. The only question, is when are more episodes going to be released. You'll want those, too.
- I think this is a great show, but I think they need to release a season set instead of doing Disney Channel-style 4-episode releases. I would pay good money for a season set, but I won't spend a cent on a disc with only four episodes. Are you listening, Nickelodeon?

2 comments about Sonic Christmas Blast.
- As many fans of Sonic the Hedgehog will remember, the 90's produced three cartoons featuring Sonic the Hedgehog as the main character, and the shows had nothing to do with each other. First there was Sonic the Hedgehog (dubbed Sat/AM by the fans because it came on Saturday mornings) which was a very serious, very dark show inwhich Dr. Robotnik had enslaved the world with robots and Sonic fought to free the planet with the help of the freedom fighters. Then there was Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, a Ren and Stimpy style show which featured lots of slapstick humor and was aimed at a younger audience. There was also Sonic Underground, which I thought was terrible and has nothing to do with this review, so let's ignore it.
This DVD attempts to mix the history from Sonic Sat/AM and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. It was much more faithful to the Adventures history, because while it featured the character of Princess Sally from Sat/Am she is only seen for about 30 seconds and has no lines, nor any real impact on the storyline. The city of Robotropolis and the SWAT bots make a guest appearance, though they bear little to no resemblence to their darker, Sat/Am counterparts.
The basic storyline is that Santa Clause is retiring and that Dr. Robotnik is taking over as his replacement. His evil plan is to make kids get him Christmas presents instead of giving presents to kids: Very epic! So, Sonic has to save Christmas from the fat guy in the red suit. As you've probably guessed, the appeal of this show is to very young children. Die hard fans of the Saturday morning cartoon, like myself, should stay away from this video at all costs. I personally returned the video to the store that I got it from and have vowed to never buy a movie without renting it first because of the experience.
- These are great, exciting Sonic episodes for the holidays.
We love this DVD at our house- highly recommended!

5 comments about Rocket Ship Beach.
- Started watching him on Sesame Street and then The Disney Channel, and my daughter was really into him. So we listened to his music, and went to one of his concerts (awesome!). The music is true, clean, and no "Barney-Wiggle" annoyances. Introduces the kids to various instruments Guitars, Drums, Accordions, etc.
The songs contain a very catchy beat for adults as well, and Father Goose takes nursery rhymes to a whole new level.
Dan Zanes offers a musical taste for all genres.
And thank you Dan Zanes and Friends and Amazon for going DRM Free!!!
Better Quality, Play Anywhere... DRM Free!
- Parents, prepare to have your lives changed! This is GREAT music that you and your kids will enjoy together. DZAF has created something that goes far beyond music that the kids will beg to hear and grown-ups can stand to play AGAIN in the mini-van. This is music that inspires music-making.
Since we "discovered" DZAF, my four year old spends her days singing, dancing, pretending she "is" Dan Zanes, pretending she's playing with Dan Zanes, and learning to play the piano and ukulele (yes, the DZ Flea edition!). She asked Santa for a harmonica. Just that. Is she learning catchy (ANNOYING) jingles about how to tie her shoes? No. Is she learning anything? Yes. Music is math, art, reading, writing, peace, love and happiness! She is learning that making music is bigger than the song; collaboration to create something good gives children a sense of inclusion, unity, curiosity, and goodwill that they carry with them when the song/dance party is over.
On a barely related note, if you have the chance, see DZAF in concert. The only thing better than hearing the music is experiencing the wild, all-ages folk show in person. Our recent concert experience was so incredible, we're driving 376 miles in March to see the band again!
Our faves from this CD are "Polly Wolly Doodle," "Go Down Emmanuel Road," "Sidewalks of New York," "Brown Girl in the Ring," and "Hello." If you ever get "Polly Wolly Doodle" out of your head, please tell me how you did it. Never mind, I think I'll hang on to it just a while longer. I hope your family will be as inspired by the work of this amazing band as mine has been.
- I used to play "alt" country/"roots" rock music with various bands, and I first heard of this in the Utne Reader. If you don't know Jimmie Rodgers from Freakwater, that's OK, but if your kid loves Barney and you prefer Neil Young (or maybe Steve Earle?), you'll probably want to begin introducing your little one to your discriminating aesthetic sensibilities. This is a good place to start.
I was a bit wary of the obviousness of "Polly Wolly Doodle," "Erie Canal" etc. but they are truly great renditions - soulful, charming and real - and capture what put these songs into the Americana canon in the first place. If you don't feel like springing for the "Anthology of American Folk Music," buy this. (You can also find & listen to the Anthology on Amazon if you are feeling adventurous).
This collection has become a benchmark of sorts in our family - my wife, my daughter (2 1/2) and I all love it, and it doesn't really matter WHY. I can give it no higher praise than that I would listen to it even if I didn't have a kid.
Also, keep your eye out for Dan and Friends live concerts in your area - a big return on investment for a family outing.
- I'm a first-time Mom who was looking for a CD both my daughter and I could enjoy. We rec'd this CD at Christmas along with "Buzz Buzz" by Laurie Berkner. This one is my personal favorite. I think I enjoy it as much, if not more than my daughter (who is 1). The songs are addicting and I, like a previous reviewer, find myself singing/humming them even when my daughter is not around. Polly Wolly Doodle and King Kong Kitchie are fabulous! I highly recommend giving this CD a spin. I'm sure my daughter will love it even more when she gets a little older.
- I was excited to receive this CD because of its great reviews. Once I received it however, I found it barely listenable. My toddler daughter looked and me and said "Off!Off!" and we took it off the CD player after only 10 minutes.
People can make of Raffi all they want, but at least his music is tolerable!
Don't waste your money on this lemon of a CD.

5 comments about Here Comes Peter Cottontail.
- This is a classic holiday film that possesses the same quality as the original Rudolph. Vincent Price is a great villain as usual.
- I bought this for my kids to watch. I remember it from when I was a kid. They loved it. They liked it better than the new Peter Cottontail Movie. I liked it too!
- Although "Amimagic" studios Rank & Bass produced over a dozen Christmas specials, they only made one Easter show and this is it! Charming re-imagining of the Peter Cottontail fable, with a year's worth of kid appeal. We follow Peter, who overslept and missed his attempt to become Official Easter Bunny, as he travels through one-year's time and almost every major holiday on the calendar. Think "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" meets "Holiday Inn." I only wish the cute music packed an Irving Berlin punch.
- My child loves this video & it's great to see it again since it was once upon a time broadcasted on TV.
- To me this delightful Easter special is everything that Easter should be for young children and adults alike. Coming from a far more innocent age of television "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", is one of the greatest creations from the Rankin and Bass team of animators who brought us of course the immortal television classics "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", and "Frosty the Snowman". Taking Easter as their theme here they have created a memorable lead character in the delightful Peter Cottontail and this special was a regular feature of our Easter viewing when I was growing up for many years. I still treasure this special now as an adult and in the beautifully restored DVD version of it now available I still marvel at the truly superb animation created here by this legendary team without the assistance of any computers. Definately an Easter classic, this funny and warm hearted story has most surely stood the test of time. In between my more religious themed viewing over this holiday I always include "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", and the other Rankin and Bass Easter themed special "The Easter Bunny is Comin' To Town", in my regular viewing and it's always a joy to revisit these "old friends", each Easter.

5 comments about Disney's Happiest Celebration on Earth.
- I have found that whenever I'm having a down sort of day, this music is the perfect mood booster. It reminds me of the great trips I had as a kid, and now with my own kids. It's great for when we're feeling like the next Disney trip is too far away. We put the CD in, and it's like having a bit of a mini-Disney vacation. The music tends to bring out the "Hey! Do you remember the time on the trip when..." It's a fun CD.
I do wish we'd bought the 2-CD version at Disneyland because we can't find it now. But this 1-CD version is still quite nice to have.
- Have to say I love it. It's like a Disney World soundtrack. I only wish it had the parade music on it from their lights parade that they pump through the park during the parade and fireworks. I had my first baby not long ago so it will probably be years before I get to go back. This keeps the spirit alive. Some people are bummed they can't go out and party, or sleep through the night, or go on exotic vacations when they have kids... I'm homesick for Disney and this gives me a fix for now!
- I have several Disney CDs - but I would rate this as the best one! I love listening to songs. It makes me feel like I'm right at Disneyland! Just close your eyes and imagine!
- I loved this. Despite the fact that many of the songs and sounds were from rides that no longer exist, I can still actually imagine being there. I personally would have liked to hear more of the music from the rides themselves rather that music trying to depict the essence of the ride. But all in all very enjoyable.
- Being the die hard Disneyland fans that we are, this CD is perfect! My kids could listen to it over and over. Definitetly a must for those of us who want a little bit of Disneyland in our every day lives:)

Wow, there is not a lot that leaves me speechless, but this album has done that. The improvements from the last album to this one are massive. The music has certainly matured as has the voices of both Nat and Alex. The lyrics have more depth and complexity and this album does not have songs like "Banana Smoothie" and "Taxi Cab" which adds to its strength. As for more expectations, this album has surpassed what I could have hoped for. I was expecting something in between this album and the last. It is still difficult to believe that this is the same group.
I Don't want to go to School
The improvement was between albums was noted almost immediately, and although not the best song, it is a load better than almost all of those on the first album. This song would be the most rock (if that makes much sense) on that the band has released. It's a good song, and it is true to almost everyone. 3.5/5
Eventually
Wow, what do I say about this song, it is right up there with the others in the album. It's catchy, it has depth, it's easy to listen to, and fits in with the other songs. It is a bit repetitive, but not in an annoying way. 3.5/5
Mystery Girl
Along side the other love songs on this album, this is bearable to listen to. It's upbeat and it's catchy, two things that are contagious and is really what makes the song work. 3/5
I'll Do Anything
Again Wow, this is one of my favourite songs on the album, although there is not a lot that separates top from bottom. It's catchy, it's simple, but it is performed well. 4.0/5
I've Got a Question
This song is different, especially with its opening. That said it is no less likeable than the rest of the album, and it still fits in well. Not quite as catchy as some of the others songs, but it still shows the improvement over the first album. 3.0/5
Body I Occupy
This is another of my favourite songs of the album, It's upbeat, it's catchy, it's simple and yet has some complexity about it at the same time, wow it's hard to find new things to say, so I don't sound like a broken record. 4.0
Why
Wow, there's that word again. For the first album my favourite song was "nowhere", this album it is this song. This is the song that strikes home with me. Whether intended or not, this song can be interpreted in so many different ways, and for me, it says everything I would like to say to my dad, if I wasn't such a coward. It has a simple depth like "Nowhere". 5/5
If you can make it Through the Rain
This is another song with that simple depth and can be interpreted a number of different ways. Yet, it does have the feel to it, to be one of the top songs of the album, still loads better than most of the first. 3.0/5
Proof of my Love
It is hard to fault this album, the improvements alone make it hard to see what's bad about it, this song is not what's bad about, but another example of how far they have come, and yet how far they still can go. 3.5/5
Great Trip
In regards to the theme of the song, this is the most different, it is very simple, yet it still manages to show the distance their music has come, it still manages to be right up their with the rest of the songs. 3.5
Three is Enough
Again Wow. Firstly what would I call this songs genre. From where I sit I sat it is R&B, go figure. This song along side "Why" shows how far Alex has come both vocally and with his lyrics and music since "I Could Be". It's catchy, it has a good beat to it, it's simple, a good combination in my books. 4.0/5
Everybody's Cried at least Once
This song, is simple, easy to listen, yet I felt that there could have been more to it. This is another repetitive song, but not annoyingly so. 3.0
Tall Girls, Short Girls... You
This song is straight to the point, it's blunt, it's contagious, it's a nice beat, what more is their to say. 3.5/5
Changing
As I have said, there is not a lot between the best song and the worst song of the album. For the record the song is strong both in regards lyrics and music. However there were a few moments in the song where Alex's vocals just didn't work, that was the only thing that kept it just below the others. Has they been right I would have hated to decided which song, was the worst.
Conclusion
All in All, Wow. The songs are a lot better than they were in the first album, their vocals have both matured well, although their it still a lot more to go. And yet there is still room for a lot more improvement which is well within their potential. A solid 4/5 for the album.
