  1. I bought this cd for my 1 year old son, who must listen to it every day. He points to the cd player and then once the cd is playing he dances to the songs. A true disney collection of songs. I recomend this product to all parents of young toddlers.

5 comments about Teletubbies - Look!.

  1. Here are a few fun facts about television and videos:

    - the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television at all to children under two years of age.
    - for every hour of television a baby watches daily, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%
    - In a study among babies ages 8-16 months, every hour spent watching programs daily such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into 6-8 fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age
    - brain wave activity is slower when watching television than when sleeping in babies.

"Signing Time" (Two Little Hands Productions) DVDs is an alternative option for OCCASIONAL video viewing because at least communicating in sign language is proven to:

    - reduce frustration and tantrums
    - accelerate language development
    - promote parent-child bonding

Last thing for new moms - carrying newborn babies (in arms or next to body) an extra 3 hours a day resulted in 40% less crying. So carrying baby in a carrier or sling can help calm fussy babies!

  2. My 21-month-old loves the Teletubbies and it's the only TV she watches (we limit TV viewing). This DVD is boring, too simple, and my daughter asked us to fast forward through all but one segment. I recommend Here Come the Teletubbies (her favorite), All Together Teletubbies or Naughty Noo-Noo. She also found "Look!" boring. We haven't seen any of the others.

  3. "Look" is a simple, yet engaging program for toddlers. I see one reviewer felt this DVD compared unfavorably to other Teletubbies selections because of its plainness, but I think there's a place for plainness with viewers that young. They don't need a great lot of stimulation at this age. I've watched this several times with my two-year-old, and I think its perfect in its way.

Also - the "Little Bo Peep" stop-action animated bonus feature is *very* charming, including a turn-of-the-century Bo Peep, a flock of Cockney sheep, and an adorable lamb that trails behind them as they search for each other through the Teletubby landscape. Worth the cost for this feature alone.

  4. There are several good teletubby DVDs, such as "here come" and "funny day", that have unique skits and stories. A lot of this DVD is just teletubbies dancing on against a solid-colored, blank backdrop.

  5. With its bright colors and plenty of 'Teletubbies Everywhere', this DVD is a hit with the Teletubby lover in our household.

Much like the PBS show, the opening 'Teletubbies Everywhere' segments are chock full of colors, counting, shapes and appearing/disappearing Tubbies. Highlights for us include the segment with the Tubbies discovering the mirror outside in Teletubbyland...really good for giggling. And we also enjoy the video segment with children from England taking photos in the park...the one little girl is so bossy, yet so funny!

If you have a Teletubby fan at your house, you will not be disappointed with this DVD. Enjoy!

  1. I own this CD, and another CD -- the "GREATEST CHINESE FOLK SONGS" by Bears Children Choir.

    On a scale on 1 to 10, I rate this CD as a 2.
This CD sound artificial. The instruments sound like cheap synthesizers.

The other CD -- the "GREATEST CHINESE FOLK SONGS" by Bears Children Choir is much better. The children's voices are pure and natural. The instruments in the background do not overwhelm. it is an 11 over 10.

  2. This is sweet, but songs listed as Tibetan are not. To support Tibetan culture check out Baby Sambhota kid's videos. Thuk jay che.

  3. This is my first CD with Chinese music on, so I made every effort not to make it a bad first impression. Luckily, you can have a foretaste of the music through those 30 second samples that amazon provides. And yes, the quality of the singing voice is excellent and the recording clear. However, the background instrumental is pretty horrible on some of the tracks. Probably, it was a low budget project and they could not hire proper musicians with acoustic instruments or at least with a quality synthesizer. Sometimes it gives you the feel of computer music in the first part of the 90's. All in all, the songs are well worth the money, but if you want to experience real Chinese instrumental music, try, for example, Classical Chinese Folk Music.

  4. We bought this album for my niece. She is just two and a half but she likes music.
I think her parents are going to teach her to be bilingual in both the Taiwan language and English.
I listened to the album in its entirety and enjoyed all the music. I recommend it for children and adults!

  5. I actually bought this to use as background tracks for digital show on trip to China. I had a number of Chinese CDs, but this one is really excellent. The variety of moods and the angelic voices are a pleasure to hear. I especially liked the happy "Fiery Horses" song.

5 comments about 'Til Their Eyes Shine (The Lullaby Album).

  1. Received the merchandise quickly! A friend suggested this cd as one of her favorites that she received when her baby was born. It was a big hit with my friend as well!

  2. The moaning, whiney songs on this CD are enough to give even the most cheerful baby the blues. If you enjoy torchy folk songs, this is your CD. If you were looking for modern, but gentle music to ease your baby to sleep at the end of the day - look elsewhere. I love the Kenny Loggins Return to Pooh Corner and More Songs from Pooh Corner, Linda Rondstadt: Dedicated to the One I love and the Martha Stewart Baby: Sleepytime(don't laugh). And my absolute favorite is one that is, unfortunately, out of print now, Lullabies for Little Dreamers: Soft Rock Classics from your favorite artists. Do yourself a favor - look for a used copy of that and skip this depressing, adult themed attempt at the blues.

  3. I love this CD. It is perfect for bed time no matter what the age. Had the hardest time finding it other places. I have young family members who listened to this when they were babies and now I found it for my own children!

  4. I remember receiving this CD from my sister when my first child was born. I would sit in the rocker with her and sing each song to her as she looked up in amazement. My favorite is "If I Didn't Have You to Wake Up To." My children, now 7 and 10, still occasionally ask me to sing a lullaby to them for fun. This song is always my first choice. Other than one song which feels a little bit intense, maybe even scary (my daughter would cry whenever it played, with tears running down her face), all the songs are pleasant, and fun to sing if you like singing. I have given it as gifts to several of my family and friends when they have their first child. It is a timeless piece. Great music, especially if you like female vocals! The variety of artists keeps it fresh...forever.

  5. We purchased this in summer of 2004 when our daughter was 1 1/2.
We, the parents, fell in love with it right away. Such a refreshing change, and all new songs to us. Now our little girl is over two, and has to hear it before bed each night. Track two, Child of Mine, is our special song, and instantly brings calm and cuddles to an otherwise stressful time of day. I can't imagine a time in the future when I won't love this CD. I will likely take it to my retirement home -- everybody needs a little lullaby once in a while -- not just the kids.

  2. My 3-year-old daughter loves Barney and we own several videos. About 80% of this video is clips from previously aired TV shows. It's strung together by a thin "bedtime story" premise with Barney, BJ, and Baby Bop talking about the themes in the clips.

My daughter enjoyed it the video but I'm upset because it is not clear from the description that the video is mostly recycled material.

  3. He has like 20 or more Barney videos. Don't know what it is exactly about this one...but he doesn't take his eyes off the screen. Maybe its because they sing about Popcorn and Pizza (2 of his favorite things). He loves it!
He also loves Barney's night before christmas (very colorful)
but this one is his current favorite.

  4. This is typical Barney Fun. The songs are cheerful and the catchy. As well as the dance numbers. Your toddlers will be glued to the television, while you can catch a nap on the couch.

2 comments about Country Stars Sing Disney Classics.

  1. This album is a straight re-issue of an earlier album (Best of country sing the best of Disney) with a different title. It's great to see it available again for those that didn't buy it when it was originally available.

The nineties yielded many tribute albums by country artists. I bought several of them, but I avoided this one for many years. No way could I imagine that this album would be for me, until I discovered this site and read some of the reviews. On the basis of some of those reviews, I bought this album and discovered that it is a masterpiece. It is ostensibly a children's album, but none of the songs are obvious children's songs. All the songs would comfortably take their place on standard albums by the relevant artists.

It is hard to pick out favorites, but Tanya Tucker is in her element singing Someday my prince will come, while the pairing of Hal Ketchum and Shelby Lynne on If I never knew you is inspired. Faith Hill's performance on Part of your world is flawless. Bryan White closes the set with a magnificent rendition of When you wish upon a star.

The songs are all from Disney movies. There are two each from Pocahontas and The little mermaid, plus one each from Beauty and the beast, Snow white and the seven dwarfs, Dumbo, Aladdin, Toy story, The lion king and Pinocchio.

This collection caused me to revise my attitude to children's music. Sure, there is a lot of it that is definitely unappealing to adults, but there are some really great albums out there which will appeal to everybody. This is definitely one of them. Oh - and if you don't like country, don't worry. This is a well-crafted album that should appeal to country and non-country fans alike.

  2. Not only do I like this CD so does my mother, I also work at a school and play it for the kids there and they love it too. Who wouldn't love a Disney song!?

2 comments about Mgm Cartoon Christmas.

  1. My friends and I rented this tape by chance one Christmas and it immediately became an annual "must-see." The first three cartoons contain rather violent slapstick and have nearly as many creepy or puzzling moments as funny ones. If you are a Tom & Jerry fan, they should be right up your alley. The last cartoon, "Peace on Earth," is well done but a bit depressing. I know it's supposed to make you think, but still I recommend having something else a litle more cheerful lined up to watch immediately afterwards to restore your Christmas spirit.

These cartoons are a nice antidote to the treacly animated specials that seem to be everywhere around Christmastime. Perhaps too scary for very young children, I'd recommend the MGM Cartoon Christmas for ages 8 and up.

  2. This is a wonderful tape that will hopefully either be re-released, or released on DVD.

Several cartoons from MGM are featured, with the theme of Christmas at their center. One of the four includes the delightful "The Pups' Christmas", in which two puppies cause holiday havoc when they discover the wonderous world under the Christmas tree. A real treat from pre-WWII Rudolf Ising's animation.

The centerpiece of the collection is, of course, "Peace on Earth". The time was 1938, and director Hugh Harman saw the clouds of war blackening the horizon. A veteran of World War I, he was determined to do whatever he could to tell the world of the stupidity of war. Teaming up with Fred Quimby (who helmed the famous cat and mouse antics of Tom and Jerry), together they surpassed all expectations for an animated short.

The story tells what happened to Men, and why only animals now live in the world. Grandpa Squirrel (voiced by Mel Blanc), tells his grandchildren about the race of Men, who have now become all but mythical. Grandpa decribes War from an innocent animal perspective; War makes no sense, none whatever, but this is what Men did anyway.

The animation is superb, and is an easy marriage of cute, furry animal characters, and a highly detailed and somewhat graphic depiction of Men at War. The real-life WWI memories of Harman on the design of the Men and their war machines are obvious.

MGM just didn't know what to make of the film. It had furry cartoon animals, but a clearly adult message. Happily, unlike today's PC crowd of executives would have, MGM chose to release the cartoon anyway, and hoped for the best. The result was an Oscar nomination.

Clearly one of the twenty best of all cartoons ever made, "Peace on Earth" is a forgotten and overlooked gem. For a short filler cartoon, "Peace on Earth" rivals Disney's best efforts of the same time period, I kid you not. Sadly, "Peace on Earth" was not the herald of similar efforts in animation at MGM. If it had been, today we might be saying, "Disney, who?"

This particular tape can be obtained for a low cost, so if you truly love cartoon animation, you must get a copy as soon as you can.

5 comments about Cinderella (Jetlag Productions).

  1. This was only enjoyable at all because I watched it a lot as a kid, and because it's so bad it's funny.

  2. I'm so glad I bought this DVD.This Cinderella version is better than Disney's and the girl is more pretty. And the songs,so beautiful.Highly recommended!!!

  3. Our 3 year old ADORES the story of Cinderella. So we decided to get her a DVD. Then the decision became between this and a VHS of the Disney version. Well, we couldn't decide, so we bought both.

As far as film making goes, the Disney one is clearly the better one. HOWEVER, my 3 year old got bored with the Disney one. She did not care about the singing mice and how pretty the animation was. She wanted to see Cinderella and that's that.

This version is the story as we all know it. It is simple, it is easy to watch and it emphasises several times how Cinderella's true beauty came from with in. My daughter LOVED this version SOOOO much that she sat thru it 2x in a row when we first played it.

When I have to 2 side by side, she chooses this version every time. So, with that said, I give it 5 stars. I am not a movie critic, I am a mother and my daughter LOVES this!

  4. "Cinderella" was one of the earliest animated films from Jetlag Productions, and possibly their very best. Jetlag Productions is one of the companies that produced low-budget animated films for the infamous GoodTimes Entertainment company, along with the much superior Golden Films producer, so being "their very best" doesn't necessarily guarantee a good film. However, "Cinderella" has often, not widely but often, been heralded as "better than the Disney version." Naturally, this is the opinion of just a number of individuals. In terms of technical quality, the animation in Jetlag Productions' film does not compare to Walt Disney's delicate and stylish touch. On the other hand, the way the story of Cinderella is handled in the 1994 version is more direct, spending less time building the character of mice and minor characters, and more time in telling the classic fairy tale. For this reason, I understand why some people may prefer Jetlag Productions' version to the Disney one. I personally, I'm glad to have seen them both.

The story of Cinderella, adapted by French fairy tale author Charles Perrault, is a story known by many, and Jetlag Productions did not change it much for their animated adaptation. The story begins when a rich man, blessed with wealth, a comfortable home and a loving family, loses his wife to illness and is left alone with his beautiful daughter. He decides to marry again, choosing for a wife a wicked woman who brings along her two unattractive daughters. The daughter of the rich man is not happy about this, especially when her father leaves on a business trip and her stepmother and stepsisters take over her home. Because she sleeps on a straw mat by the fireplace and is often covered by cinders, she is named "Cinderella." Cinderella is forced to do all the chores around her house, including washing dishes and cleaning stairs, while her stepsisters play and have fun. One day at the palace of the kingdom, the king's son had just come of age and his parents were anxious for him to chose a proper wife. The prince had been unlucky finding the right girl to marry. His father decides to prepare a grand ball and invite all of the eligible young ladies in the land, an idea that appeals to the prince as long as the choice is his alone. Word of the ball reaches Cinderella's home, but she immediately told that she will not be attending it. Cinderella receives a visit then from her fairy godmother, telling her that she will attend the ball. With the help of a magic wand, Cinderella is presented with a new gown, glass slippers and her very own coach to transport her to the palace. She is given the warning that the spell will wear off at midnight and that she must return home before then. Cinderella promises to be home before the clock strikes twelve, but at the palace, she has the honor of dancing with the prince throughout the night, until she is startled by the clock striking twelve. Cinderella runs off into the royal maze, where her gown turns into her old drags, and where she loses one of the two glass slippers that had not disappeared. The glass slipper is the prince's only key to find his true love, because both he and Cinderella are sure that they love each other.

"Cinderella" is easily the best animated film Jetlag Productions has done. The only other film that I can think of that could match this one title in quality is their 1995 adaptation of "Little Red Riding Hood," another animated tale filled with colorful characters, catchy songs and a nice handful of good moral lessons. "Cinderella" features colorful and well-drawn backgrounds, neither the characters nor the artwork feel "stuffy" or overdone in the sense that creates an uncomfortable feeling when watching. The level of saturation in the overall look is well balanced, strong uses of reds and greens (a big flaw in "Snow White," 1995) are left out, replaced with softer colors. The voice acting is probably some of the best as well. A major complaint I've always had about Jetlag Productions' titles is the ridiculous amount of clichéd and corny voice-acting that was simply unbearable to listen to sometimes. The animation is overall well-done, with just a few scenes where the characters' movements were jerky or just plain silly (a moment that sticks out is one during the opening song where Cinderella spins around looking like a propeller). The music was very nice, particularly some of the original melodies played during the ball scenes are very memorable indeed. Due to a common rule that became a standard in all later Jetlag films, "Cinderella" features three songs: the opening song, "Dream On, Cinderella," where the story is told briefly, is memorable and pleasant to listen to (though I've had trouble understanding some of the lyrics), "The Chance Of A Lifetime," where the stepsisters sing about their chance to marry the prince and have their dreams come true, and finally, "Where Have You Been All My Life" where in dreams, Cinderella and the prince sing to each other about their love and their longing to be reunited. All three songs are wonderfully catchy and well-written. Overall, though "Cinderella" perhaps does not compare to the charming productions of Golden Films, such as "Thumbelina" (1993) and "The Little Mermaid" (1993), it is one of the best Jetlag Productions films out there and children, particularly little girls, are bound to find it enchanting.

  5. This is the worst adaptation of Cinderella that I have ever seen. I am very upset I wasted the money, I spent 9.99 on this (it also came with an awful adaptation of Snow White), the only reason I purchased it is because Cinderella (the Disney one) is not on dvd yet. We got about half way through both dvd's and threw them in the garbage!!!

5 comments about Around the World & Back Again.

  1. What a fun and eye-opening CD! The songs are as much fun for adults as for kids. Listeners learn about dance and instruments from around the world, giving kids a hunger for a geography lesson (Where is Borneo, Mom??).

    Our family loves this CD.

  2. I was a huge fan of Tom and his late brother Harry. His show Make A Wish was a masterpiece. Saw where Tom won the Grammy for this work and my 2 year old grandson agrees it deserves the honor. Something for kids that they can learn and have fun from.

    Don McNay...

  3. Our favorite Tom Chapin CD! We love The Elephant Song, Another
Busy Day (just taught that one to a classroom of third graders!), they are all great! Fun singing in the car on a long trip kind of music!

  4. Our favorites--for today that is!-Didjeridoo, A Forest in the Rain, and In An Elephant World.
What I enjoy most about Tom Chapin is that his songs are all fresh and different (unlike Raffi, for example), and he covers many different topics. Children love them and we adults never get bored listening to them. Around the World is one of our favorite CD's!

  5. I love Tom Chapin's music and this is, so far, my favorite album from him. Around the World and Back Again will have you dancing and clapping and singing along! My kids, boys ages 4 years & 16 months, love it as well. It gets us moving happily. Tom Chapin does not "sing down" to kids... he "sings up." He sings songs that teach without being preachy or "babyish." His music is quality music. In my opinion he is one of the best children's musicians out there today. Another bonus is that his music is totally non-character driven (no Elmo or Barney or Rugrats allowed!).
