  1. I actually hated this video since it's condescending in many ways- but the catchy phrases such as "potty power"- and the songs like "I'm a big kid now.." "look what you can do by yourself" etc.. it is catchy enough that my DD follows it.. what annoys me- well- the potty- how about a seat on a toilet? the sound quality is horrible, the kids seem way older than 3.. overall, better than some of the others I've seen so far.. and- biggest thing- DD likes it..

  2. My daughter immediatly loved the video, probably because it talked to her and she could relate. It became the only video she'd want to watch and soon enough she started to use the potty. She was potty-trained about a month after I first showed her Potty Power. It's short and sweet, and toddlers understand it.

  3. DVD has two big flaws: telling toddlers that may still be in a crib that only babies sleep in cribs (I'm quite happy my 2 1/2 yr old is still in a crib and so is she) and the CREEPY JESTER. The part at the end where it says, "he asked the princess when they were finally alone why she finally went on the potty" is just wrong. Plus, his horrible singing and joking for the parents is useless for kids and annoying for adults. Who on earth thought this creepy hack should be in a kid's DVD?

  4. I actually picked this DVD up at my local Library, and immediately fell in love with it. My Daughter still a couple months from being 2.5, I started doing research, as to the best non-traumatic way of potty training...which I found out later is now called "Potty Learning". This DVD is GREAT, it is simple, with catchy songs, and very enthusiastic - also the host has a very child friendly face. I must admit, it is more so intended for Girls. They should come out with the "little prince version". Anyway a week from my daughter's 2.5 birthday, she came up to me and told she would like to use the potty. I assisted her, and she did a number 2! all by herself alone, no toys, no stickers, no books,no bribing, she entertained herself with singing the songs while on the toilet, and when she was done she said "all done potty" We exclaimed together POTTY POWER!. We immediately threw out the diapers, that very night, and sang "No more diapers for me". I guess she was ready to "be a Big Kid, that's why" :).

p.s. I had her watch the DVD, 4 times a week, once a day, along with showing her how I also use the potty chair aka "Toilet". I had her help me pull down my "Royal underwear" and waited on her to tell me to sit down. I gave her "Power"....and she eventually got "Potty Power!"

  5. Awesome product purchase. I often tell other moms about it's effect on my daughter. Worked for me, hope it can work for you as well. It's a fun way to introduce your little ones to the potty experience. Lots of singing and visuals.

  1. When you see the DVD that comes out in August, you'll want 3D glasses so be sure and be ready or find the ones you had...just a hint, since some panicky girls didn't have them when that show debuted on television recently.

This particular music and DVD featured on Amazon has only a short DVD. However, the girls I know didn't really care. They loved it anyway. The bottom line for this particular reviewer is that I have to keep that in mind when rating this. From a dollar value or deceptive ad viewpoint, the DVD is not a full concert performance. Consider yourself duly informed.

From the perspective of someone watching some girls having fun listening to the music and watching the short DVD, I'd say it was worth every penny. Your results may vary, depending on your feelings about the music and DVD package and the reactions of Hannah Montana fans in your home.

  2. I bought this Hannah Montana CD for my granddaughter's birthday. She was thrilled. She and her friends spend hours listening to it and dancing and singing to it. It was the perfect choice for her.

  3. My daughter begged me for this the day it came out. Well, I did end up getting it but was very dissapointed with the music and the DVD. The only good song is Rock star. Everything else sounds like edited versions of Hannah songs over screaming teeny bopers. Also don't listen to this really loud. There is one over excited fan that was to close to the recording mic who is screaming her head off! The DVD wasent that great to be honest :(. My daughter was pritty dissapointed overall but hey at least it keeps her quiet on those long car rides :)

  4. First of all, I am disappointed with the Disney Channel, not Amazon. The Disney channel had been advertising this particular DVD/CD combo for months (released on 4/15). My daughter and I assumed that it was a DVD of the concert movie that we saw earlier in the year. THAT DVD will not be released until August. Sooooo, this DVD is like a "preview" of the full-length DVD. This DVD shows 2 songs from the concert (one Hannah, one Miley) and about 10 minutes of "behind the scenes." If your daughter doesn't care to see the entire concert, then this DVD would be fine. The CD is okay, too; however, it has a lot of the same songs that other Hannah/Miley CDs have already. I feel pretty stupid for spending $40 for a CD of songs my daughter already has and a 15 minute DVD. I recommend that you wait until August to get the full-length 3d DVD.

  5. For her 10th birthday I got my daughter Hannah Montana The Best of Both Worlds. Now I'm singing it becuase it hasn't stopped being played. Consequently, I've bought a wig, organised a TV show, changed my name and will be on the road soon with my own show! And I'm a father!

  1. We began playing this CD for my daughter as we fed her a bottle in her nursery before naptime and bedtime. I believe it was beneficial to both mom/dad and baby. It was very soothing. Now, two years later, we still play the CD every night before bed and often will play it in the car on long trips to recreate a naptime scenario in the car. Today I am buying a second CD as I am due with another baby in just a few weeks. I expect that the CD will be loved equally by this new baby as it is by my two-year-old.

  2. It has different composers in this CD. I enjoy it a lot since I love classical music; however, it has repeats if you already have Baby Bach & Baby Mozart 1 & 2 CDs.

  3. My three girls grew up watching the video's it is great to see the legacy live on! You are making a difference. Thank you and keep it up! [...]

  4. Perfect music to relax little boys and quiet them after their hectic day.
    Solves sleep problems.
    Good for oldies as well.
    Denise

  5. This is music for babies, or for children, the people at Baby Einstein understand that little ears have trouble discerning multiple sounds. If you had wanted a classical music CD those are already available. But your baby needs a simple CD with only 1 or 2 instruments. It's not about whether YOU like the CD, but whether your child likes it.

  1. I think the Baby Einstein products are amazing. Why not start early letting your children watch and listen to something very worthwhile. My three year old grandson has graduated to Little Einstein and now sings all the classical melodies.

  2. Your child would love watching this video, but she'd also love eating cotton candy and drinking grape soda. Many pediatric and psychological studies have shown that young children know FEWER words for every hour they spend watching videos like this one. Why? Because they aren't spending time with YOU, practicing their language and social skills. There's also evidence that young children who watch TV have a greater risk of developing ADHD. Last, toddlers who grow up in homes with the TV always on in the background literally seem to have more trouble hearing themselves think. This hurts their developing linguistic abilities and consequently their abilities to engage silent reasoning.

Please protect your child -- don't let her watch any TV during her early, crucial, developmental years. We only watch TV when our little girl is asleep.

  3. The video itself is great, but I find it abhorrent that it begins and ends with ads (for other products by the Baby Einstein company). If some Disney really felt that they had to include ads, they could easily have added a menu choice offering information on their other related products. But no, they placed a video announcement for these products right within the play -- as the first thing you see after selecting play, and the last thing after the video itself ends. So you'll get to hear those ads each and every single time you play the DVD.

  4. Can't go wrong if your child loves these videos. My grandson watches them over and over and over and over......

  5. My 6 month old loves this! Of course, he loves all the Baby Einstein DVD's but this one is one of my favorites in addition to the Farm Animal one. I am looking to buy 1 or 2 more for him.

  1. Although this product was tracked to Fernly, Nevada it never reached my address in Las Vegas. It is presently being disputed on my credit card. This seems to be the only way to contact Amazon concerning such matters. I give Amazon a "POOR" rating for customer support.

  2. My daughter and I listen to this CD nearly every time we get in the car. She loves that the songs are ones she can sing along with.

  3. We love this CD. The voices that sing the songs are pleasant and the songs are ones my kids love. They listen to this CD every night as they go to bed.

  4. On long trips this was the ticket. I'd remember this more than all the sights, sounds, and people. Finding it on CD has brought back childhood memories. These are the songs, of classic origin, and timeless for all generations!

  5. For some reason this morning 'Ten Little Indians' was in my head. I called my mom to ask her if she remembered what the record was she used to play for me when I was little that had 'Ten Little Indians' on it. She said it was a Disney record and she immediately started singing 'It Ain't Gonna Rain No More No More, It Ain't Gonna Rain No More...'. I got online to track down the record and thankfully Amazon has it! I played some of the samples for my mom over the phone and it was a kick! I ordered the CD right away. It brings back great memories and I can't wait for my daughter to learn the songs so we can sing them together!

  1. This product was recommended to me by my cousin. It has been well worth the $15-and then some. My son loves it-and has loved it since he was 3 months old. He's now 11 months and will still sit & watch it. I actually enjoy watching it myself-it's very intriguing. The music is wonderful-so peppy and spirited. This is our favorite Baby Einstein dvd. I have purchased several as shower gifts for new mom's. Love it!

  2. I got this video for my daughter when she was 6 months old. She watched it a little then, but now that she is older (11 months) she really loves to watch it.

  3. After swearing that I would adhere to the pediatrician's recommendation to keep my son away from the TV until he was two, I broke down and ordered the oh-so touted Baby Einstein DVD for my 4 month old. After all, I needed time to do things around the house and my son is not a napper.

Well, after 5 minutes of watching the video with my son, I was horribly motion sick and he was completely uninterested. I mean he literally glanced at it 2 or 3 times and promptly looked away. And why wouldn't he? The video is stupid--bad closeups of cheap crap that someone decided would hold the attention of a baby? Backrounded by horrible renditions of classical music classics.

Do yourself a favor, buy a REAL Mozart CD, put it on and click on the Weather Channel. The moving maps and quick graphics hold my son's attention, and show him the states and cities on top of that. He might acutally learn something in that hour rather than be "entertained" by really bad graphics and cheap objects on a black screen.

  4. My baby loves this video. I've even caught my husband, as well as my 8-year-old daughter peering over her book watching this video.

  1. this over priced piece of junk is a wast of time and money. Miley cyrus sounds like a dying mule. HATTTTTTTTE HEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I WANT HER TO SPLIT INTO A MILLION PIECES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I bought this dvd thinking it would be great to watch because Miley Cyrus is a great singer and performer, but when I opened it to watch the 3D version there was nothing 3D about it. It came with four red and blue 3D glasses . It made me feel nauseated (well, not really) but I could not watch anymore of the 3D version. You can even watch it without the glasses because it looks like the 2D version except with a little blur. It is horrible like watching VHS version. It was a disappointment. I might return it if i can. I wonder if other 3D glasses will work. For me, I don't like concert versions of songs.

  3. I bought it for my young daughter and we sat down to watch it only to learn that the whole time Miley was singing on stage, it was not closed captioned so I had no idea what she was singing about. The only time it was closed captioned was when she was rehearsing for the show or talking between songs. This isn't right and I expected the entire songs to be closed captioned. Also wearing the 3-D glasses really started to hurt my eyes as they were of poor quality so I had to take it off. I am not pleased with the whole thing.

  4. I work at a video store & had the pleasure of first seeing this in the theaters w/ a good friend of mine. I am a little peeved to see that 4 out of the 6 deleted songs were included on the dvd, but the one that I would have really liked to see, "East Northumberland High," was not included in any of the special features. "Right Here," "SOS," "Good & Broken," & "Pumpin' Up The Party," were on the disc w/ the middle 2 songs included as bonuses while the 1st & last song were edited back into the concert itself. I have tried looking to see if the songs were easter eggs, but no such luck. The DVD itself is great w/ its typical Disney DVD features, but I would have liked to see "East Northumberland High," in the concert. Oh well, can't win them all.

  5. I saw this in theaters and it was quite entertaining. I have a few complaints though...My first one is that it was much too short, there was no need to edit out any songs, although it seems like they added them back as bonus features on this DVD.

My second, and biggest complaint is the Jonas brothers....they are awful, totally talentless hacks that have no place in the music industry, needless to say at these concerts and this DVD. They're segment of the concert is brief, but still entirely too long. A collaboration with Miley was all that would be needed, since they wrote one of her songs. There are hundreds of better ways to buy time for Miley than to have the Jonas brothers perform. But once you get past the nasal section (Jonas brothers) of the show, it goes smoothly.

My third complaint, about the DVD version specifically, is the 3-D effect seems to have been downgraded. I believe they have gone from the outstanding new technology implemented in theaters to the very old and crappy red and blue glasses. This negates all of the awesome visuals in the concert, and makes the entire experience far less enjoyable. I was fully expecting to buy this DVD, but I am not so sure I want to spend $25 for a crappy 3-D version. Why can't they just use the same 3-D technology they used in theaters? There MUST be better ways to have the same effects in your house without resorting to the old red and blue. I still don't quite understand what they need 2 discs for. The concert is just over an hour long, and the features are probably about 30 minutes. Unless they are also including a non 3-D version of the concert on the second disc, which would make it more desirable.

5 comments about Sesame Street - Old School, Vol. 1 (1969-1974).

  1. Though some sources claim that these "old school" children's television programs are not as useful or relevant for today's youngsters as when today's parents were originally watching (including a disclaimer in this product itself), I can relate that my 2-and-1/2-year-old is fascinated by them and she has been watching the episodes repeatedly for the past month since we started showing them to her. So fear not - the children of the 2000s will find much to love and come back to in this package of vintage shows. I doubt you will be sorry that you bought it for your child, especially if you loved Sesame Street when you were your child's age.

  2. This DVD set is packed with classic skits that I remember as a kid. It makes me so happy to watch it with my 18 month old son and 6 month old daughter. I know they love it just as much as I do. My son does not like the new sesame street nearly as much. If the new shows are on, he will actuallay bring me the dvd, because he want's to watch the classics instead!
    Sorry Elmo!

  3. I watched Sesame Street from the time I was really small and I always liked it. In fact, I can remember watching well past the "target age" of the show. However, in the last 14 years or so, I had become extremely disapointed with how much the show had been dumbed down, and the advent of a few new characters (especially Baby Bear) really messed things up. Baby Bear has the most annoying, whiny voice ever! While reading the reviews on here, I noted that several people had mentioned a speech impediment. The odd thing is that I'd never really noticed that, or cared. It was just his whole attitude that drove me up the wall. We don't having "streaming" TV (aka cable or sattelite) so my children haven't been growing up watching this as I did for which I am profoundly grateful. The show centering around Elmo is nothing like the show I remember and the few times my kids have seen it, they've wandered off within a few minutes! And they're all between 2 and 6. So I have few Sesame Street vids and they're rarely watched.

However, that being said, I was ecstatic when I discovered this at a friends house and got to borrow it. I hauled it home and prepared for a nice nostalgic journey (even if said episodes were aired over the decade before I was born), with the hopes that the kids would enjoy it as much as I. They loved it. They beg to watch it, and considering they know we only watch TV on the weekends, they don't usually ask. I also noted that several people mentioned the grainy quality and that their children wouldn't even watch it because of that. My children haven't had a problem with it, and have never mentioned it. Then again, that may be because we watch lots of old movies, including really old movies from the 30's (I mean, come on, what modern child actually likes watching the Marx Brothers? [besides mine that is]), so that may be a reason that they haven't noticed the quality. They've learned how to get around that aspect and enjoy the show for itself.

I too was a little disappointed at first when I found out there were only one episode from each season, but I quickly got over it. I enjoyed seeing how it evolved over those years (an orange Oscar?!) and I also really liked the little out takes. I was excited to see the little video of the boy fishing for the alphabet. That's one that's always stuck with me, and reminds me of my oldest now. If ever a whole collection is offered, it would be well worth it and I hope someday to be able to add it to our rather extensive collection. This is one of those rare instances where I would make an exception to the "NO TV" rule during the week.

  4. We enjoyed the nostalgia, however, expected more episodes. It's dated but still wholesome entertainment for our child.

  5. Like most Americans of my age, I grew up watching Sesame Street. It was considered a new invention to give children some rudimentary education and teach them something about the world while they moppeted and gamboled around the house doing kids stuff. Looking back at these videos, most of which I remembered very clearly when I watched them again as an adult, I wonder what these people did to my mind.
Sesame Street is now an obvious product of the counter culture. Watching some of the shorts and cartoons in it ... well, I can see why teenage pot-smoking reprobates enjoyed watching Sesame Street as much as kids in those days did. Heck, there were many, many prominent members of the counter culture featured prominently in the program. For example, I had a crush on Buffy St. Marie, American Indian Movement activist from the 60s, from listening to her sing nice songs on Sesame Street. I also had quite a few Stevie Wonder records because of his numerous appearances on Sesame Street. Other figures of the time also made occasional appearances; Johnny Cash and Jesse Jackson among others.
It's funny watching the kids from Sesame Street (which, in case you don't remember, is in the Ghetto) gamboling around Farmer Bob's Farm, figuring out where food comes from and such. One of the great cultural artifacts preserved in Sesame Street, besides the psychedelic art and the hipster haircuts and moustaches, is the uniforms that this era of working class people wear. I mean, I remember people dressing like that, but if they weren't anthropologically preserved in the Bell Jar of Sesame Street ... that might have been lost to history. Nobody knows how Scythian bartenders dressed and comported themselves either. Watching the series really brings me back; it also reminded me of Mr. Hooper who was probably my favorite old dude on Television, and that the "old school" cookie monster is actually pretty scary.

Is it good for kids? I think it is. If you're the type who wants your kid to wear a bicycle helmet when he walks around the house, you'll probably be horrified by it. I find it entertaining, educational, and profoundly nice. Sesame Street Old School also lacks any of the shrill sanctimony or paranoid preachiness that you see in modern kids shows. Kids can watch it and hardly know they're being taught stuff at all. I occasionally wonder that they didn't implant secret mind control engrams into my mind with some of those wacky psychedelic scenes, a la Manchurian Candidate, but over all this is great nostalgic fun.

  1. My 20-month old son loves this video! We've had it for a few months now and he still enjoys it every time! His favorite part is the handpuppets, but he gets excited over the tractors, the chickens, the children...basically everything in this video. And I love watching it too!

  3. I bought a copy of this one two years ago, but unfortunately my son damaged it. He loved it so much I decided to buy it again. I bought the new release of the dvd thinking it was probably better than the original. I was very dissapointed to find out that the language tracks are not available, even though it plainly states it on the back of the dvd case! I love the Baby Einstein series because its a great way to keep Spanish in my child's life. I would not have bought it again if I had known that the language features were no longer available. False advertising!!! If youre gonna do something, do it right or dont do it at all.

  4. My 9 month old daughter is absolutely thrilled to watch this video ..esp the cow !! Its great when I have to leave for work and need to divert her attention .. it should help her get some knowledge when she grows older ..

  5. For those of you who think your child might outgrow this simplistic DVD at a very young age, you just never know! When we take longer trips in the care, it is still one that my 3-year old requests for viewing. Definitely worth the money.

  1. While there are some good songs out there (like Cake's openning cut). The album fell a little flat for me and the kids barely notice the CD. I think we are all spoiled on Dan Zane CD's - they really grow on you.

  2. This album deserves all the accolades it's received here. It's upbeat, amusing, entertaining, and not cloying. Love The Hoppity Song and La La La La Lemon best, but all tracks are good. Well, perhaps except the last one. Bend Down the Branches seems out of place and a bit pointless to me, but it's short. This CD is definitely good for the whole family.

  3. The songs on this CD are infectious and fun. There is not one annoying song on here. I love Willie the King, Snow Day, and The Hoppity Song the most. IF you're an adult that cringes at the idea of a kids' CD, this is absolutely the one for you!

  4. When this album comes on, our entire family sings and dances. Our youngest started singing "la la la lemon" before she started talking. We've recommended and given to many now-singing families! The entire album is fabulous!

  5. This album is FANTASTIC. Buy it. It's our 1.5 year old daughter's favorite. That may be because it's our favorite too. I've even gone out and purchased albums from the artists on this CD for myself. The songs by Bleu and Five for Fighting are particularly good. It's hard to find a kid's album that you as a parent can stand to listen to over and over again. I'd listen to this one even if she weren't around. If you as a parent are an alternative music fan, this CD is a must have.

By the way, pass on "For the Kids Too." It's super boring. Like most good movies, the sequel never lives up.
