5 comments about Best of Elmo's World DVD Collection.

  1. Got with Pepsi points. 3 DVDs that keep the kids entertained. No more vodka in the milk!!

Seriously though, three DVDs provide entertainment that the kids love. Only better idea would be to have more episodes on a DVD so I didn't have to switch. Believe they are 60 mins each.

  2. If you are starting out trying to discover what your child will be receptive to this collection will cover it for Elmo. Good jump off point for future DVD educational things for your child

  3. I ordered this a month ago and still have not received the item. So I would say this is a horrible vendor.

  4. While my son won't usually sit and watch a video for more than 10 minutes, Elmo is his favorite and I thought this collection was a good value. We had a 6-hour drive a couple weeks ago and he watched them when he wasn't napping.

  5. My new grandson (8 months old) took his first
trip to Florida. He loves Sesame Street, especially
Elmo. I bought these tapes so that my sister in
Florida could play them while he ate and hung out
in his playpen, like he does at home....saved our
    lives!

5 comments about Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie.

  1. Bought this for my 7 year old daughter who loves Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. Couldn't get tickets for the concert so we saw it at the movies and she told me when it comes to DVD she wants to buy it. So I purchased it and she listens to it and watches it quite often. I have to admit, I enjoyed it myself!Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie

  2. As a 16 year old male, I recieved far more than several strange looks upon entering the theatre to see this movie. There was one girl in particular who sat in front of me and managed to turn around and look at me with a rather pathetic lack of comprehension somewhere between 10 to 20 times before the movie started. I could just see in her eyes that she, like many of the other close-minded immature tweens whom surrounded me, was thoroughly considering either my sanity or my sexual orientation. It really is incredibly unsettling that our society is as bigoted and incapable as it is. Target demographic, shmarget demographic; Miley/Hannah's music is incredibly entertaining, well composed, and, at times, moving, regardless of age or gender.

BUT anyway, on with the review...

Miley's voice is amazing. It's even better live than on her CD's, and this film presents absolutely no exception. Her control and range are darn impressive, while at the same time her voice maintains an innocence and untapped potential that makes it satisfyingly difficult to stop listenting to her. I have to say that I love the unique controlled vocal crack that seems to be her signature during extended segments of vocal influctuation. She's also absolutely fearless; how many 15 year olds could keep their composure in front of 15,000+ people nearly every night with the comfort and facility that she does?
And on top off all her talent, she is, to put it incredibly frankly, pretty darn hott.

The instrumentation throughout the concert was superb. Her lead guitarist and drummer especially were outstanding in my opinion. One thing that I love about concert experiences is that the music itself is always far better than it is on the recording, since record companies and such can't put restrictions on spantaneous improvisations by the musicians. It was also a treat to listen to Miley play an acoustic guitar during "I Miss You."

Perhaps the best part of the film was the 3D effect. The glasses, thank God, weren't the blue and red sort that leave your color perception ruined and your head aching for hours, but were much better quality plastic ones.
I happen to be an aspiring filmmaker, so coming from a cinematographic point of view, this movie left nothing to be desired. Sweeping camera shots, pleasantly unexpected close ups, and creatively fun visual tricks in post production made the absolute best use of the 3D effect possible. At one point during viewing, I almost subconsciously convinced myself that I actually WAS right there, front row at her performance. You literally feel like you could reach out and touch her at any time.
The vibrant use/balance of color was in no way distorted by the glasses [if anything, the 3D effect enhanced them] and the very well designed stage setup and enormous venue could've made even the smallest theatre seem wonderfully spacious.

One of my personal favorite moments of the experience was the period of time in which the incomparable Jonas Brothers played a few songs while Miley changed. Their dramatic music, rich instrumentation, and dependably deep and passionate performances/vocals alone were worth the $15, and one can only hope that they will release a filmed concert as well... Haha, but I digress.

My only complaint would have to be that the entire concert is not included. There were numerous songs that I was looking forward to, but that didn't make it past the cutting room floor. I suppose they had to pick and choose between performances though since they had to fit behind-the-scenes action as well.

All in all, this movie is incontrovertably entertaining and simply bursting with refreshing talent. People can tell me I'm "not supposed" to enjoy what Miley has to offer all they want, but the fact of the matter is that she is a quality entertainer and to refuse fandom based merely on social expectation is ridiculous and pathetic. I cannot wait until this DVD comes out, and you can bet that it'll be in my DVD player before the day it becomes available is through.

  3. I am really glad this movie is coming to DVD! I thought it was or is one of the best movies. It was brilliantly filmed with absolutely great sound mixing, film editing and super color. I thought it was cool that everything from the 3-D Cameras to the elevator operators got in on the act. The technical background shots were fascinating. The buildup footage to the actual concert of Miley, Hannah and her family were a definite plus and when Hannah came on, the whole thing took off like a rocket. She was mixed perfectly with her band and visually with her dancers and band as was Miley. The audience noise was mixed in perfectly also. If you were at the actual concert down front, you could not hear the music for the crowd noise. Hannah is definitely "America's Rock Star!" and Destiny Hope's dream. What a wonderful combination in one concert and movie.

  4. Energetic Miley Cyrus is a dynamo in this bubbly concert film. The likable, ever-smiling 15-year-old positively shimmers with charm. Her sunny personality bubbles out both backstage and during performances.

The concert -- and the whole Hannah/Miley story -- is a celebration of girlhood, of sisterhood, of the power of positive thought. A girl can be whatever she wants to be. It's a powerful message.

This Blu-Ray version is widescreen, with Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound.

As for the movie itself, it begins backstage before the concert, and then you see Hannah sing "Rock Star." What hits you right away is the joy from the girls in the audience. They are thrilled to be there, singing along, screaming and waving their arms. The electricity from the crowd is matched onstage. No one seems happier or more excited to be there than Hannah/Miley herself.

Disney heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers come onstage to sing with the star, and by themselves. While they are performing, Hannah goes backstage and switches to Miley (i.e., she takes off the blonde wig). Miley's songs are a little edgier, slightly sexier, as she sings the sisterhood anthem "Girl's Night Out," and the flamenco-inspired "Let's Dance." She sits down to sing and play guitar to "I Miss You," a tribute to her late grandfather.

Interspersed are rehearsal segments, Miley and her dad traveling together to the studio and later singing a duet at home, Miley's mom describing how she helps her daughter change clothes backstage, and fans and their dads saying why they like Hannah/Miley -- often wearing long blonde wigs. A funny contest shows dedicated dads duct-taping high heels to their big feet to enter a race to win tickets to the concert for their daughters.

The 3D effects are mild, mostly serving to make you feel more immersed in the concert. There are a few obvious 3D moments -- a flicked guitar pick, a jabbed microphone stand, drum sticks flying through the air -- but mostly the depth comes from objects and people receding away from you, leaving Miley up close and personal.

As a parent watching this young open-faced girl, I remembered seeing Britney Spears perform at the peak of her stardom. Both had a crowd of screaming, adoring preteen girls. Both were pretty and stylish. Miley has the benefit of engaged parents, plus the protective power of Disney. Here's hoping she is spared Britney's sad and ugly road.

This two-disc set has both 2-D and 3-D viewing options, a Dolby 5.1 track and both fullscreen and anamorphic widescreen formats. Bonus features include extra behind-the-scenes footage and a sing-along mode.

  1. My 3 1/2 year old loves this CD. I didn't realize when I bought it that it also came w/ a DVD. It was a pleasant surprise. The content is engaging for young and old alike, which is nice since my son likes to watch it over and over again.

  2. My first introduction to They Might BE Giants was when their videos for Istanbul and Particle Man first aired on Tiny Toon Adventures. I've been listening to their music since. I studied music for a long time and studied many different kinds of music and taken an interest in many artists, but for some reason They Might Be Giants winds up being at the top of my listening list again, over and over. I recently purchased both the ABC's and 123's and watch the cintained dvd with my 1-year-old daughter. These two dvds are the only content we really ever let her watch, and they are the only videos that have ever kept her attention long enough - she listens and watches avidly, dances, claps. I love and sing along to all the songs and sit with her through each viewing of the videos; it's an activity that we both enjoy very much, and she seems genuinely interested in the content of the songs.
So a big thanks to John and John for these 2 cd/dvd combos, and thanks to Amazon for selling them, and a big recommendation for any fellow Giants fans with little Giants fans on board.

  3. TMBG's excellent first kids album "No!" was practically the return of the days of "Flood" and "Lincoln". But on this album, too many songs seem to only appeal to kids. The songs have the variety that TMBG fans have grown to love. Many songs have the great TMBG lyrics. What could go wrong?

Many songs get so elementary that they tend to lose adults. "Letter/Not a Letter" and "The Vowel Family" are good examples. When I thought I would write off the album, I got something like "Can You Find It" or "Alphabet Lost and Found", which have all the heart a TMBG song could have.

There is a problem with TMBG that many fans don't admit. They write and create 100 songs a year, but some of them are just thrown together to make a quota. Thus, you get songs like "Q U", "LMNO" and especially "Goodnight My Friends", which have a quality much less than their fans are used to.

At one point Robin Goldwasser gets thrown in, which is usually a mixed bag. "Who Put the Alphabet in Alphabetical Order" has her sounding like an opera hack; on key but just trying too hard. Talk about the waste of a great song title.

One last thing: Why two versions of "Fake-Believe"? Strange.

Again, there are little bits of good TMBG here and there, and kids can learn and have fun. But if I want to listen to something at work, I'll grab "The Else". So this is a 4 star kids album and a 2 star adult album, so it averages to 3 stars, but that's probably covered on "Here come the 123's".

  4. This is a wonderful CD/DVD! A must for a family with small children. It is so neat to hear our toddler singing about "go, go , go for G" and other silly ABC tunes. Worth every penny.

  5. As many people have mentioned, TMBG do a fantastic job with a great variety of songs on this album. What is an even bigger treat is the DVD that comes along with it. My son is 20 months old and this is the first, and for the most part only, DVD he will watch. The videos for each song are great as are the interludes between songs. My son loves when the robot says his ABC's "really fast!" and he dances around during the song "Clap Your Hands" every time he hears it.

If you enjoy TMBG you will enjoy this CD and DVD even after hearing it and/or watching it every day for a few weeks... The lyrics are kid friendly and educational in that Schoolhouse rock sort of way while the music is everything you would expect from TMBG. Be sure to add this to your chid's music collection (or even your own!)

  1. excellent my grandson (one year old) has used the potty already after watching, then he claps his hands

  2. This video has helped us fast forward my 2 year old's potty training. I highly recommend it.

  3. we bought this for my daughter when she was a little over 2. she loves elmo's world. when we got serious about potty training at 2 yrs 9months we played this a lot and she LOVED it. she would ask for it over and over and it is pretty funny. she would sit on her little potty for the whole dvd at times. she loves the 'accidents happen' song and it made her like the topic of the 'potty' whereas before she just always said no when we asked her to sit on the potty.

  4. We bought this video to introduce potty training to my daughter at the age of two. She still insists on watching it at least once a day 7 months later. To her it is just another Elmo video, like Elmo Goes to the Doctor, and Elmo Goes to School. They are all three very similar as they are set up more like an episode of Sesame Street instead of an Elmo's World DVD. The songs are cute and the video is very enjoyable for a toddler. I do not think that this is a miracle video that will train your child for you. This is more of an introduction to the process. I think it would be great for the toddler who is scared to use the potty.

I would like to mention though that several other reviews have claimed that there are no scenes with someone actually on the potty...this is not true. The very first scene of the movie shows a much younger Elmo sitting and singing on his potty chair the day his dad brings it home. There is also a second scene towards the end of the movie where there is an outdoor party of sorts where children are playing outside in diapers and one girls grabs her mommy to go inside and use the potty. They show her take her diaper off and sit on the grown up potty.

Overall, my family really enjoys this video. I highly recommend purchasing this video as an introduction to potty training and would be great to bring home with the new potty seat.

  5. Despite my objections to Elmo in general, this video is pretty good. My 2-year old daughter enjoyed it from the beginning and is very interested in what Curly Bear did in her potty. I only wish we saw more puppets/people/animals/monsters actually going potty. There is quite a bit of talk of pottying but not much actual pottying going on.

I do think, though, that the emphasis on trying to go, not wearing diapers, and listening to your body work well. My kid loves Elmo but this is the only Elmo concession I have been willing to make. It does have catchy songs and she enjoys dancing to the 'factory' part. The "Stomp" inspired section is her other favorite.

  2. We love this DVD and CD. My son is already doing addition problems from watching this video. We watch it in the car and everyone enjoys the lyrical masterings of They Might Be Giants. My husband and I loved them before they did kids music, and we love them even more now!

  1. My sons love this 5 DVD very much. My older son (2 years and 8 months old) pay extremely attention when he is learning the new thing from the DVD. This is a good set of dvd that parents should buy. It is worth the money.

  2. My 3 year old absolutely loves these dvd's. He has learned so much just after watching them a few times. Great for learning...

  3. My daughter absolutely loves these!!!! She just turned two and she already knows many of her letter sounds thanks to this video!

  4. These are probably one of the best set of children's DVD's that I have ever bought! I have two boys aged 2 and 3 and they are both glued to these when we put them on, which is great because they are educational and entertaining!

  5. The DVD set is great, and making learning fun. My son is only 3-month-old, but he already enjoys watching the Letter Factory. He might not know what is the DVD about, but it sure catches his attention and he actively watches the show (giggling, waving his arms, and "talking"). I think it will be great learning tool when he gets older.

  1. I bought this Hannah Montana CD for my granddaughter's birthday. She was thrilled. She and her friends spend hours listening to it and dancing and singing to it. It was the perfect choice for her.

  2. My daughter begged me for this the day it came out. Well, I did end up getting it but was very dissapointed with the music and the DVD. The only good song is Rock star. Everything else sounds like edited versions of Hannah songs over screaming teeny bopers. Also don't listen to this really loud. There is one over excited fan that was to close to the recording mic who is screaming her head off! The DVD wasent that great to be honest :(. My daughter was pritty dissapointed overall but hey at least it keeps her quiet on those long car rides :)

  3. First of all, I am disappointed with the Disney Channel, not Amazon. The Disney channel had been advertising this particular DVD/CD combo for months (released on 4/15). My daughter and I assumed that it was a DVD of the concert movie that we saw earlier in the year. THAT DVD will not be released until August. Sooooo, this DVD is like a "preview" of the full-length DVD. This DVD shows 2 songs from the concert (one Hannah, one Miley) and about 10 minutes of "behind the scenes." If your daughter doesn't care to see the entire concert, then this DVD would be fine. The CD is okay, too; however, it has a lot of the same songs that other Hannah/Miley CDs have already. I feel pretty stupid for spending $40 for a CD of songs my daughter already has and a 15 minute DVD. I recommend that you wait until August to get the full-length 3d DVD.

  4. For her 10th birthday I got my daughter Hannah Montana The Best of Both Worlds. Now I'm singing it becuase it hasn't stopped being played. Consequently, I've bought a wig, organised a TV show, changed my name and will be on the road soon with my own show! And I'm a father!

  5. The CD is great, all the right songs, high energy. The DVD was disappointing, it only had 2 songs and a short clip of "backstage life". Seems like a waste of extra materials to create such a small DVD. But my daughter loves it and it made her birthday party a success!

5 comments about Potty Power - For Boys & Girls.

  1. This video was recommended to me by a mom who over heard me discussing my frustrations with training my 2 1/2 year old daughter. I had tried everything and was completely out of ideas. I read the Potty Training in One Day book from cover to cover and had two failed "Potty Parties". I tried Dr. Phill's method and even used tips from the Potty Whisperer that was featured on the Today Show. I took her outside to play in just underpants so she could have an accident to see how it felt and I also had a potty chart on the bathroom wall with plenty of stickers to stick on it. She showed all the signs and then some...and Elmo's Potty Time was her favorite video. Even the pediatrician said she was definitely ready. So when this video was recommended to me it was my last hope. I began reading the reviews and was so excited with the miracle reports of success with this video. So, in my desperation, I order the Potty Power video at Amazon and had it shipped next day!

When it arrived I put it in the dvd player immediately. Within 30 seconds of the opening theme song my daughter had taken off her pull up and sat on her potty. Though she didn't have any successes that first day with the potty, she seemed so inspired by seeing actual kids using the potty. She wanted to watch the video every waking hour. We received the video late in the afternoon on June 19th. By the 24th she was going pee pee all day all by herself in her potty and staying dry during naps. She knew the routine. She started poo pooing in the potty all the time by the 27th.

Like I mentioned before, we had been watching Elmo's Potty time for 6 months with no progress. To her it was just another Elmo video. I really think that the key here is that other little kids are shown sitting on the potty and going through all the steps of the potty process. This is something Elmo lacked. Only two scenes in that video even show anyone on the potty, once with Elmo as a baby and in one video a girl in diapers uses the potty. I do think that Elmo is a great introduction to going the potty training process for a younger child who isn't actively training. That being said, this is definitely a video for the child actively potty training. I honestly don't believe I would have seen the same results if my daughter wasn't ready to learn.

Obviously, I highly recommend this video to other parents who are actively struggling to potty train their toddlers. This is actually the first product review I have done...so you know I must have been really impressed!

  2. Potty Power worked for us! I bought this DVD to just jumpstart my daughter's potty training. She was totally resistent to potty training so I was planning on devoting a weekend to it and just hit it hard then. That planned weekend is two weeks away...

I bought this video just to get her familiar with pottying and brought her little potty in to the living room (which I always said I wouldn't do..HA!) just so she could see it was there. Within minutes she had taken off her diaper and sat on the potty.

By day 4 (with encourgement from us and a treat system as well) she was fully pee and poop trained. Now 10 days later she doesn't even use the little potty but the big potty with a potty ring and she goes in public bathrooms too.

I don't know if everyone will have as much luck as we did. I really think we just got lucky and something happened to click for her when she saw it. But it's definitely a fun DVD that they enjoy watching and will most certainly help jumpstart potty training.

  3. My kids seemed to really love it. I can't say that it actually helped with convincing them to use the toilet, but it didn't hurt. The songs are memorable and I often hear the kids singing the wash your hands song while they are washing up afterward. The jester kinda creeps me out and the plot could use a little work. I'm not sure why the jester gets left alone with the little girl, but I may just be over sensitive. All in all, it's a DVD about tolieting. You can't expect your kids to watch it and magically be potty trained, but it doesn't hurt to help explain the process and use as training material.

  4. I'm not sure if starting with the video would've changed all the drama over the last 6 months, okay year, regarding potty training. I think it just settled a confused little mind trying hard to understand. It had little "big" kids, it had music, it was empowering and it defined what being a big kid vs. a baby meant. But yes, I give it rave reviews and kinda wish I would've started there instead of ended there. It's been here a few weeks now. Maybe a month. Within days, she was handling her business. When there were accidents, we'd pop in the video, she'd get empowered and unconfused again and there'd be a longer period of no accidents. She now requests in public for me to take her to the nearest restroom. I have not changed a diaper in two weeks.
Potty Power officially achieved. On occasion, she proudly screams out "Potty Power!" when she's feeling a little extra confident. So cute. And so resolved.

  5. My three year old was having a very difficult time using the potty until we purchased this DVD. She was stubborn and would refuse to use the potty, then she would intentionally have "accidents" throughout the day and night. I was thoroughly frustrated and just about to "lose" it. From the moment we first watched this DVD, she turned a corner. This DVD really struck a chord with her. She wanted to be a big kid. She wanted to use the potty and she wanted to wear "big kid underwear". I was singing "Hallelujah" praises to this DVD. Since we purchased this DVD, she has only had 3 accidents in about 3 months. Although, we still have to remind her to use the potty, she is using the potty consistently.

And, to my surprise there was an added benefit from watching this DVD as a family...my 20 month old began wanting to use the potty also.
