5 comments about Les Miserables Complete Symphonic Recording.

  1. Les Miserables is not only compelling music it is very dramatic, therefore no other version is as satisfactory a listening experience. The other versions are really on Les Miserables, the greatest hits, and therefore lack the dramatic impact. This recording is superb; buy it and enjoy!

  2. This is my favorite Broadway production. This is the best recording of Les Mis available.

  3. Like so many others, I have never been so deeply effected by any other staged musical. It is somewhat like going to mass. I know the story. I have seen the turntable production multible times in multiple countries. And still, whenever I find myself at a location near a live performance, I feel compelled to go again. I know that I will always be so moved as to feel marvel that such a feast of story, sights, and sounds can be put together in a single theatrical production. Somehow it seems to renew something inside of me that is good.
This play has so few spoken words that it is rather like an opera. It has inspired me to buy virtually every recording associated with it (even the French concept album)... searching for that heart felt experience. This album, better than any other, allows you to re-experience the entire play. It is a treasure.
    William R. Beaty, M.D.

  4. I have this recording memorized front to back, and when my old cassettes finally wore out, it was time to replace them digitally. Well of course it sounds phenomenal, and the booklet has all the cast info plus all the lyrics and a synopsis of the plot. I can't compare this with the other recordings, but it's my favorite as I grew up with this one.

  5. I bought this recording and the the London original cast CD at the same time. I like the London version better BUT~ I didn't realize that the London version was abridged!! So MENTALLY I'm a "bit" disappointed. I've seen the musical 3 times and can't get enough of "Les Mis"

  1. I admit that I haven't been a Marc Anthony fan but am now after listening to this CD........he has an amazing voice and the song selections are well worth listening to........

  2. I truly enjoy Marc Anthony's music. I feel very proud as a Puerto Rican that he was able to make a cd album with english lyrics but to the melody and rythm of the Island of Puerto Rico.

  3. This is a very good cd.I give most songs 9/10.Marc Anthony is the best singer period. Two words-buy it

  4. This is really a good one, nothing more nothing less. All the tracks starting from "Love won't get any better" to "Everything you do" its good quality music. But his album just doesn't have that "killer punch". You know what I mean?
Everything is so easy going and naive kind of a thing. Marc is a really good singer and should sing some good quality stuff.
Overall: Something worth buying but not worth remembering.

    That's all, thanks for reading.

  5. Marc Anthony made a good first impression with this CD but after a while it got boring. My favorite song is I've Got You (track 3 on the CD). It is a very fast paced song that is a little confusing but I stuck with it. It is on two seperate times which I didn't get at all. Afterthat, the rest of the music was mediorcre. Not Marc Anthony's best album but not his worst.

5 comments about 16 Most Requested Songs.

  1. Bought cd for one song. The song is on the cd so I am satified.

  2. Andy Williams could take a song and turn it into an artistic masterpiece. His strong voice was able to convey the slightest of emotional nuances to make every song a meaningful one and a short story as well. He remains one of the greatest male vocalists of the twentieth century; and this CD gives us sixteen of his most requested songs.

"Can't Get Used To Losing You" proves this all so easily. Andy also used his own vocals to create the effect that there were two of him singing the song. The slight echo of Andy's voice on numbers including "Can't Get Used To Losing You" really impresses me. The strings also work wonders for the musical arrangement; and Andy never misses a beat! "Red Roses For A Blue Lady" features Andy singing at his very best; the arrangement places Andy squarely in the spotlight as he sings this classic love ballad. The backup vocalists harmonize to perfection and the arrangement overall lacks nothing--love that brass!

"Moon River" was one of Andy's greatest hits and most requested songs; I believe his television show often opened with part of this song. Andy delivers "Moon River" like the champ that he is and the ballad is very romantic as Andy sings it. "Born Free" gets the royal treatment; Andy's excellent diction bolsters his performance and the backup vocalists harmonize well.

I really like "Days Of Wine And Roses;" Andy sings this with panache and sensitivity. The strings help the arrangement, too. "More" is another coup for Andy who sings this with all his heart and soul. Another highlight on this fantastic album is easily "What Now My Love." "What Now My Life" features Andy's voice singing clearly and conveying all the subtle nuances of emotion to make this a powerful performance.

The album ends with "The Impossible Dream;" and it makes an excellent, strong ending for the album.

Of course, fans of Andy Williams will probably want this in their collection although it is best suited for a more casual fan. Andy's artistry is displayed very well on this album and I wonder why Andy isn't remembered the way he deserves to be remembered. Moreover, if you like classic pop vocals, you are bound to appreciate this album of just some of Andy William's most requested songs.

  3. Wife hasn't taken Andy out of her CD player since she put it in 3 weeks ago.

  4. Being a Sinatraphile, I don't often like to venture into the domain of other "Easy Listening" singers; I generally stick with the best. However, every now and then I pop in something different just for the sake of variety. If nothing else, it makes me appreciate Sinatra that much more. But I digress. Williams has a very smooth, pleasant voice. He's not offensive, his voice is distinctive, and he has sung some good songs. Besides, he was a friend and supporter of Bobby Kennedy, so he must be a halfway decent guy. This collection is pretty solid: his signature song, "Moon River," is here; "Can't Get Used to Losing You" is a damn fine, catchy tune; "Dear Heart" and "Days of Wine and Roses" are also quite good, though my favorite song on this collection is the beautiful "Emily." There are some standards and a couple I could do without, but overall I would consider this a good buy.

  5. Listening to Andy Williams brought back lots of memories. You just don't hear these songs played on free radio anymore. Now I can listen anytime I want. Great CD!

5 comments about Follow Your Heart.

  1. This is an awesome CD. The song Dance was beautiful.
The only drawback is allot of the songs aren't in english.

  2. ...however, I found it a little tiring to listen to. 'Sometimes I Dream' is a much better collection of songs by Mario Frangoulis. There seems to be more energy put into the project. So go for the other album first, then augment your collection with 'Follow Your Heart'.

  3. Generally, I do not take quickly to a recording of unfamiliar music, especially when it is in a different language. So, "Follow Your Heart" got off to a slow start with me. However, every time I listen to the recording, I like it better. Perhaps, after I have heard it more and the music becomes more familiar, I will come back and upgrade my 3-star rating.
Frangoulis has an extremely pleasant soft voice. For that reason, my favorite tracks are the "Ave Maria" and "Another World." But, as his volume increases into the forte/fortissimo levels, his voice becomes harsh. This is especially apparent in "Come What May," which starts with some beautiful "pianos," and then gradually climbs in both volume and stridency.
My biggest problem with the recording, however, is that it is over-orchestrated. The accompaniment intrudes on the vocals. I found myself, several times, realizing that I was listening to the accompaniment, rather than to the singer.

  4. I recently purchased this CD thru Amazon. One recent saturday morning I played it while my wife and I had breakfast. We starting listening to this CD we were blown away with Mario's outstanding voice and great song selection on this CD. We were in complete agreement this was one great singer and one CD full of outstanding songs. It starts with songs like Come What may, Follow your heart, AVE Maria a different song from the orginal classic etc.
If there is anyone looking for a perfect CD for all types feelings, please get this one.
I have both of Mario's CD's and he justs keeps getting better. This is one talented singer. This is a must have CD for anyone who loves great singers and great songs.

  5. Here's the the Heroes (as is the rest of the album ) is beautifully done and such a beautiful tribute to anyone who has ever fought or given themselves in the name of freedom. It is such a profound and touching song and one cannot listen to it and not be brought to tears and think of all our young men and women in all the wars and pray for them and be so grateful to them, what an inspirational song, powerful, moving. One of the best most expressive peices of music I have ever heard. Thank you Mario and thank you to all our heroes.

5 comments about Debbie Gibson - Greatest Hits.

  1. This is a good collection of her hits but there were a couple of others that I would have thought to add to the album.

  2. This set is dominated by many hits from Debbie Gibson's Grammy-winning releases OUT OF THE BLUE(her debut) and ELECTRIC YOUTH. It does also feature the title track from her third album ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE(credited as Deborah Gibson). Gibson has composed most,if not all,of these songs which include ONLY IN MY DREAMS(debut hit from OOTB),the title track from OOTB,STAYING TOGETHER,FOOLISH BEAT,SHAKE YOUR LOVE,the title track from EY,the chart-topping LOST IN YOUR EYES and NO MORE RHYME.

  3. Of the teen pop stars in the 80s, Debbie Gibson was my favorite. She had a beautiful voice and wrote a lot of her own material, a rarity for teen pop stars. Her music has more substance than today's pop stars, such as Britney and Christina. This cd is a good collection of her greatest hits.

  4. every song on debbie gibson's greatest hits album is a classic. only in my dreams, foolish beat, out of the blue, lost in your eyes, and anything is possible are all classic songs.thanks for the music debroah. ed wilson

  5. I dont know much about Debbie Gibson (I was more of a Tiffany fan, sorry) BUT I did love Debbie's music but I didnt know all her songs so when I found this cd I thought I'd buy it and I am so gald I did because its great.
But what I've been told is its not ALL her hits but I totally love it because it brings me back to the days of great pop music.
Debbie plays pop music playfully and puts a smile to my face and I do still dance to it lol.
Can I say? even though Tiffany was the queen of ballads at the time, Debbie still had beautiful ballads.
This cd is a great blend of both pop and ballads, I totally love it.

5 comments about The Very Best of Frank Sinatra.

  1. Superb collection with that one and only a man who will forever be known to music and voice you know when you hear it. These songs are certainly some of his best and most loved songs.

  2. The best versions of his best songs all in a row! Great sound quality. I've played it non-stop since it arrived.

  3. What I love most about Sinatra jazz are the positive-message lyrics and upbeat approach. This CD set delivers it with enjoyable clarity, because the audio mastering is simply superb. If you have a CD player in your car, buy this two-disk set for the car too.

  4. Given the huge body of work that Frank produced over his lifetime, when one is just getting started and has to pick just one album, CD, set, or compilation to buy, it is a daunting task. So I talked to a lot of people, read a lot, researched a lot, and ended up buying this as my first ever purchase of a "Doctor Sinatra" work. I think it was the right choice. You will find, like I did, that not quite all the songs you wanted are included in this collection, but I daresay, unless you buy some stunningly huge collection with a lot of repeat songs from different studio's recordings, your chances of doing so are slim in any event and it will set you back a couple of Caesar's Palace black chips to buy anyway. This collection is a good representation of a majority of Sinatra's work, however, and it is just fun to listen to. I recommend this to jazz fans, casual Sinatra fans, music history fans, and people who just need some Chairman of the Board to fill out their CD collection.

  5. What more can be said? It's the very best of one of the best entertainers of the 20th Century. It doesn't get any better than that.

5 comments about Josh Groban Live at The Greek (CD/DVD).

  1. I used to like Josh Groban, but this DVD made me turn my back on him so completely. Somewhere in his giddy success he has lost the gift of touching hearts, now he's just a platinum singing machine that's powered on by his fame and the highly-placed crowd he's associated with. Very boring.

  2. Leather pants? Josh was wearing leather pants at this concert? Hmmm. I'll just have to look at the DVD again, only this time more closely.

I recently bought this oldie for two reasons. First, I've gotten everything else I could find that Josh has put out, and second, it's the only thing available that has his cover of Linkin Park's "My December."

Josh's voice wasn't up to par on this DVD, but that doesn't mean it was terrible. It just wasn't at its glorious best. Many of the negative reviewers were a tad melodramatic, in my opinion.

This DVD is uneven. I thought the beginning of the concert was boring, but later there were some inspired numbers, including "My December." Yes, Josh sounded nasally during part of it, but shoot, I really didn't care. His performance was passionate, powerful, and stunning. I wish that I could get a studio recording of it.

Reading the negative reviews for this DVD was kind of amusing and kind of scary. It was like the people who hated it felt as if they had been betrayed, particularly because Josh didn't look or sound like he did on his first PBS special (which I agree was wonderful).

"Live from the Greek" came out in 2004. Four years later, Josh's voice and career are far from being in the toilet, despite the dire predictions from some of the reviewers here. His singing was exquisitely beautiful on the 2007 "Noel," which was the biggest selling Christmas album ever. Sales of the "Awake" CD have done quite well, too.

Released in May 2008, the "Awake Live" DVD of a concert before 15,000 people shows Josh to have grown into a polished performer with great stage presence and great vocals. However, it also is not in the style of the first PBS special. He's not going back, people. As for his appearance, he looks just as unkempt on "Awake Live" as he did at the Greek, only with fancier footwear (boots instead of athletic shoes). Some of us find the look adorable. Hundreds of thousands of us admire his mix of classical-style pop and an edgier pop sung in his golden voice, and we can hardly wait to hear what he does next.

"Live from the Greek" is part of Josh's developmental history as a performer, musician, and vocalist. That's why I'm glad to have it. That and because his version of "My December" kicks butt.

  3. I love this album! I got it for my sister. She really likes it as well. I don't understand why so many people trashed it. Yes, there were several non-english songs, but oh...the music and That Voice!

He just keeps getting better and better.

  4. Wow, I'm glad I listened to the commenters over at YouTube in choosing to purchase this DVD/CD, it's quite negative hereabouts! I have no beefs with the sound quality, JG's clothing, lightsticks, or flags! I have enjoyed watching the evolution in Josh's stage presence: he was just lovely in the first concert DVD, but it was very controlled and didn't reveal much about him. I love his personality and varied tastes, and how they started to come through on this first tour. The clips I've seen from the "Awake" tour show even more of that personality, I can't wait for that DVD.
I would have given this another 1/2 star for the wonderful violinist that is Lucia Micarelli, she is a wonder to behold!
I do agree that the first few songs were a little nasally, it's really too bad Josh was unwell and just goes to show that life isn't perfect, even for him! The nasal tone does go away as the concert goes on (maybe the medicine kicked in.) All in all, highly recommended...

  5. I LOVE this cd/dvd. The dvd is almost better than being at the actual concert!

5 comments about Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind.

  1. This record opens with "Still Within The Sound Of My Voice", one of the most beautiful songs ever written, superbly arranged, played and performed by all involved. It then segues on with the title track, which is another masterpiece. Linda's voice is in top form, musicianship is particularly inspired, with a rhythm section formed primarily by the great Carlos Vega and Russ Kunkel on drums and the wonderful Lee Sklar on bass.

I personally prefer Bette Midler's version of "I Don't Know Much" ("All I Need To Know", on her "No Frills" album) to Linda's, but you can't have all, right? You got four Jimmy Webb compositions, a cool multiple co-performance by angelic-voiced Aaron Neville (especially on the Nick Lowe/Paul Carrack number "I Need You", a perfect take on Sixties Motown R&B), powerful arrangements and on top of this Linda's unerring ability to make it all sound so easy and simple.

"Cry Like A Rainstorm" has the same dramatic impact of a subsequent Ronstadt album like "Winter Light", but the choice of material here is more adventurous (no big, already well-known Bacharach standards). The perfectly classic production values combine the adoption of a large orchestra and a Gospel choir with a natural feel to Linda's performance that will resurface again in the basic, quasi-'live' "We Ran" rock album almost ten years later.

    What are you waiting for?

  2. This is a great pop release from Linda Ronstadt. Linda has one of the best female voices of all time and in large part because of her range and ability to do so many different styles of music.

  3. After reading all the reviews numerous times, I bought the album, despite not ever hearing even one song off of it. I recognized it as a GREAT album on the first hearing, and it has only gotten better. Thanks to ALL the reviewers. I agree that there is not one bad song on the whole thing, although we all have our favorites. It was very much worth the time to find this outstanding album.

  4. This CD showcases Linda's tremendous vocal talent and there are many great moments scattered throught the 12 songs that comprise "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind." I am not really an Aaron Neville fan so the duets, except for "I Need You", really didn't do much for me. The Skywalker Symphony Orchestra compliments Linda's style very well, however David Campbell's arrangements are a little heavy-handed and overly dramatic when compared to Nelson Riddle's earlier work with Linda. But, all in all, this is a fine addition to Linda's discography.

  5. I love this cd thankyou amazon for finding it for such a low price including the shipping and handling it was cheaper than than any store! Thankyou again!

  1. More than just a collection of her previously released works, includes life performances as well. A must for any Basia fan.

  2. Clear Horizon-The Best of Basia is a great overview of a career that is far from over (I hope, there is a new cd in the works), Basia was a breath of fresh air when I first heard the fantastic 'New Day For You' back in 1987 and since then I've brought every record, Basia has a very nice voice, and I love her mix of jazz & bossa nova, this cd is a great introduction to her fabulous work!

  3. This is my first Basia CD. I heard about her from a friend, so I thought I would try her music. I really like it. Very nice to listen to.

  4. came to me in great time and was brand new, couldnt ask for anything more.

5 comments about Guilty.

  1. As usual Barbra and Barry Gibb excellent voices in only one disc very nice sounds

  2. I think this is one of the best Barbra's CDs and by far the most popular.
I needed no information about it, because I'm Barbra's devoted fan. Your price was good.

  3. Absolutely the best CD album I have ever owned!!! "Guilty", "Woman in love", and "What kind of fool" are my all-time favorites. Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb together are much better than either one of them individually. I guess it's synergy! (and that's coming from a Bee Gees fan!

  4. I wore out the album, I wore out a couple cassettes, and this was the first CD I bought. A favorite and must have for me.

  5. I have anxiously been waiting to get this Cd. Barbara and Barry created sensational duets with this one. I remember growing up as a young girl and listening to the Guilty album. Thank you for having this item in stock. It brings back wonderful memories and I think everyone should buy this cd either as a gift or for yourself. Each song has a special message for anyone in love or looking for love. lol
