  1. Dino is great as usual. The CD fades in and out so you always need to tune the volume.

  2. THIS WAS THE BEST COMPILATION OF DEAN MARTIN FOR YEARS. ITS THE BEST TO START OUT WITH IF YOU ARE TRYING TO EASE INTO DEANS MUSIC.THIS IS SOOOO GOOD IT SHOWS WHY ONLY CROSBY COULD EQUAL THAT COOL AND EVERYDAY LOVE WE ALL HAD FOR DINO.HOW I MISS SEEING HIM ON TV.GET IT AND ENJOY AND KEEP FOREVER.

  3. GREAT CD, and a wonderful way to re-experience music when it was at its best. I'm just sorry that "Everybody Loves Somebody..." was not included on this "Greatest Hits" collection. Otherwise, it's PERFECT.

  4. If you have forgotten how good Deano sang then you need a reminder.
This CD has all of his signature songs and many more which showcase
his rang and versitility. Get the music sit back and remember how good entertainers were in the 50's and 60's; this is a no brainer.

  5. Yet another wonderful CD of Dean Martin. This too arrived very quickly.

  1. If 60's British singing legend Petula Clark had a chip off her block, it came from Olivia Newton-John. Born in Austraila and rasied in England John started out with hits like the Bob Dylan version of "If Not For You" and "If You Love Me" in 1971 and it came just as Clark's hits began to dry up. And by the end of the 70's John started to appear in movie musicals just as Clark did the decade before. I know that I will be getting this CD in the future.

  2. Very glad I purchased this CD it has all the songs I like. Its got the rock and country kinda sounds in her earler songs with a hip rock in her later songs. Highly recomend this CD.

  3. I understand what all the griping is about - this collection is far from perfect. There are a few tracks which should have been included - the most glaring omissions being "What is Life", "Changes", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" and "I Need Love", and there WAS room on the CDs for at least three more tracks, but what these other reviews fail to point out is that they finally got it right - this collection rounds up almost all of Olivia's chart entries, some under-appreciated gems, and the previously unreleased (on an Olivia album) "Fool Country" and "The Best of Me" from David Foster's 1986 Atlantic album. And the collection is 24-bit remastered, to boot. Don't gripe, people. Just listen!!!!!

  4. This CD is a great value. I like Olivia Newton-John's 70s music. Even my teenage son and his friends like the Grease songs. They observed,"She and John Travolta were good singers!"

  5. Purchased two copies of this album as gifts for my wife and her sister. They both loved it. This album is a great collection of Olivia's work. If you're a a fan, like they are, this album is for you.

5 comments about Hair (Deluxe Edition) (1968 Original Broadway Cast and 1967 off Broadway Cast).

  1. Hair...the seminal Rock Musical for the ages... Once upon a time in the mythical land called America great thoughts and changes began to appear across the land. People, especially the younger one's began to actually listen to the music...their music...Full of promises and prayers, asking the questions and finding the answers... Love...Understanding ...fellowship... permeated the soft sweet aromatic waves of the times.
The age of Aquarius came and went...only the music remains.... Let the sunshine, let the sunshine, shine through...

  2. I came to this backwards in time; I saw the movie version first and listened to that soundtrack. Go and buy that one, not this one; that one is way better. The musicality is outstanding on that one, whereas this has a second-rate AM radio sound. I was a pre-teen when the play of Hair came out and I remember most of the songs from AM radio in the late 60s--but after listening to the soundtrack I realize why most of the hits from Hair were recorded by other people. "Aquarius" was popularized by the Fifth Dimension. "Hair" was popularized by the the Cowsills. "Easy to Be Hard" was popularized by Three Dog Night. All those versions are better than the soundtrack (and some are not very good). Listen to Cheryl Barnes sing "Easy to Be Hard" in the film: it is outstanding.

  3. This is certainly a classic of the era. To understand it fully you would have to have seen - even if it was 40 years ago.

  4. Really enjoyed listening to fine tracks from the 60's. Anyone who lived through the sixties as a teenager will love this one.

  5. The Quality exceeded my expectations. It brought back my original memories of the production of Hair I saw in 1968 in Los Angeles

5 comments about Gypsy - A Musical Fable (1959 Original Broadway Cast).

  1. Merman belts the songs out of the ballpark in a way that Midler can't touch and LuPone only nears in 'Rose's Turn.' The additional tracks on this are worth a listen and enhance the perspective, like the included liner notes, of the final production.

  2. I WAS VERY GRACED TO SEE "GYPSY" WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. THE NEW PRODUCTION WITH PATTI LUPONE AT THE ST. JAMES FINALLY MATCHES THIS....MICHAEL CULLEN..

  3. bought this as a gift for a huge Ethel Merman fan and he was thrilled! Thank you once again amazon for having what I was looking for!

  4. Let me entertain you
    Let me see you smile

    I will do some kicks
    I will do some tricks

    (Mama Rose)
    Sing out, Louise! Sing out!

    I'll tell you a story
    I'll dance when she's done

    (Mama Rose)
    You're behind, honey!
    Catch up! Catch up!

By the time we're through entertaining you
You'll have a barrel of fun!

Gypsy remains one of the very finest musicals ever produced. With music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim how could you go wrong? Well, they certainly didn't go wrong; and this original cast recording proves it.

I agree with people who believe that the overture for this musical is one of the finest ever written. It flows beautifully and seamlessly through portions of many of the musical arrangements for the songs in this musical. Impressive!

The musical score on this CD contains many songs that to this day remain instantly recognizable. "Let me Entertain You;" "Some People;" "Small World;" "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "Together Wherever We Go" boast those catchy Jule Styne melodies and incredible lyrics that only Sondheim could have written.

"Let Me Entertain You" is the first song on this CD; and Ethel Merman as Mama Rose with Jacqueline Mayro as Baby June and Karen Moore as Baby Louise perform this flawlessly. The song flows so naturally that you completely believe that the two young girls are truly being coached by their domineering mother as they rehearse for a kiddie show in a vaudeville theater. Ethel Merman delivers "Some People" very convincingly; it is here that we see the first undeniable evidence that Merman was born to play Mama Rose. Merman belts out this song passionately as only she could; Merman blows the roof off the house.

Other great songs on this CD include the beautifully arranged "Small World" which is performed with great sensitivity by Ethel Merman as Jack Klugman joins in to make the song even more romantic; the moving "If Momma Was Married" by Sandra Church and Lane Bradbury as they deeply wish for a reprieve from their pushy stage mother; "Everything's Coming Up Roses" sung without a single superfluous note by Ethel Merman and "Together Wherever We Go" performed by Ethel Merman, Jack Klugman and Sandra Church.

Ethel Merman also delivers one especially powerful number at the end of the musical, "Rose's Turn." Merman's voice remains as strong, vibrant and passionate as ever as her character laments that things didn't turn out as happily as she had planned. The musical arrangement underscores Mama Rose's descent into a type of nervous breakdown as Mama Rose performs her swan song.

The CD continues with four bonus tracks that include entire numbers that originally wound up on the cutting room floor. These tracks add color to the original cast recording and enable the listener to hear even the slightest of differences editors made as they rushed to release the LP only one week after Gypsy opened at The Broadway Theater. Look for some interesting changes in "Some People;" "Mr. Goldstone/Little Lamb;" as well as two songs that were dropped from this production of Gypsy entitled "Mama's Talking Soft" and "Nice She Ain't." Excellent bonuses!

The sound quality is rather good although there were times when I could hear minor surface noise in the background. The liner notes offer black and white pictures from Gypsy and essays by Martin Gottfried and Tom Shepard. There are liner notes reprinted from the original LP jacket by George B. Dale, too.

Gypsy was produced several times more after this production closed. However, this is the definitive version because Ethel Merman carries the show with her zesty and powerful voice. Nobody could or ever will touch Ethel Merman as the quintessential Mama Rose.

I highly recommend this CD for fans of original cast recordings of great Broadway musicals; and of course Ethel Merman fans will thrill to these superlative numbers.

    Enjoy!

  5. One of the best scores ever written for the stage!

5 comments about Surrender.

  1. I'm not a big ALW fan but his x-wife's singing turns his pompous, melodramatic works into sincere and romantic love songs.

  2. Very happy in general with this CD and Sara's beautiful voice. A mixture of musical selections that wear well.

  3. This CD is simply amazing! I prefer this album over "Dive" because Brightman sticks to what she knows best - which is opera! Surrender, Unexpected Song, Chanson D'efance, Tell Me on a Sunday, and Nothing Like You've Ever Known are simply brilliant and beautiful pieces music! Sadly, I do not prefer the 2 songs from Cats - about Macavaty and Gus. They really do not seem to fit to Brightman's style of music, for they are more outgoing! However, Memory from Cats (in Italian) is beautiful with soaring octaves! Everything's Alright is genius, with a 5/4 tempo, and it makes the song amazing. Pie Jesu is a beautiful piece, but I prefer Charlotte Church singing it. Brightman's vocals show to much vibrato, and it makes the song seem annoying! Amigos Para Siempre and the Spanish version of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" are fairly decent pieces from Brightman. If you love the Brightman from "The Phantom of the Opera", then buy this album!!!

  4. The first couple of songs were fair the next few were crap and the next were hogwash and the last showed how a beautiful voice could crumble with lousy songs chosen for her Terrible ablum especially for 30.00 really terrible

  5. I surrendered ..... you should too!

This album is just incredible. As I'm sure you already know, this is a collection of Sarah singing the works of brilliant composer (and ex-husband) Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Sarah just takes my breath away. Her technique is incredible and her voice is perfect- which I unfortunately can't say for all of her albums. Her Spanish pronunciation is nothing short of amazing on one of the album's highlights, 'No Llores por Mi Argentina', 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' from 'Evita' in Spanish. Another incredible highlight is 'Piano', 'Memory' from 'Cats' in Italian. Sarah really throws herself into it and it comes out sounding almost like an operatic aria. If you're looking for her famous 'Music of the Night' that's here too, as well as a brand new version of 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again', which definitely improves on the already fantastic version that's on the 'Phantom of the Opera' cast recording. 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat' from 'Cats' shows off a whole new side to Sarah's voice. When I first heard it I was amazed! I couldn't believe that it was Sarah singing it. Other amazing highlights (for me at least) are 'Unexpected Song' from 'Song and Dance', 'Tell Me On a Sunday' from the musical of the same name, and 'The Last Man in my Life' from 'Song and Dance'.

The album includes fantastic liner notes explaining each song and the musical that it's from, courtesy of Andrew Lloyd Webber himself, and some really cool behind the scenes pictures. I strongly urge you to buy this album even if you already own the 'Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection'. I don't own that album myself, but from what I understand, it's basically a repackaging of this with a few song changes and different pictures. I'll probably buy it to get the songs that I don't have one of these days .....

I adore this album. All Sarah Brightman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and musical theater fans in general need this. In my opinion it's one of Sarah's 3 best works, (the other two being 'La Luna' and 'Time to Say Goodbye'.) Of course, with Sarah's huge and varied discography, your opinion is bound to differ from mine but I'm saying mine anyway.

This album is one of my top favorites of all time. It's worth every penny. Buy it- you won't regret it.

  1. Whew!! You get the original recordings with this CD. I have purchased similar artists from this era (50's & 60's) and received Remake Junk. These record distibutors should warn buyers if the contents is original or not and let us make the decission to buy knowing that. Any way this is a great CD that covers probably all there radio hits as I remember them.

  2. This collection of the Shirelles (25 All-Time Greatest Hits) really is comprehensive, but the sound is disappointing. Even cranked up, the fidelity just isn't there. --BW

  3. As a teenager, it was always very difficult to buy all the hit songs of one's favorite singer or group. The usual progression was an album with 2 or 3 hits, followed by another, if they lasted that long, and, finally, five years later you'd get the compete set. This album has all the Shirelles big hits and I got them all in 1 purchase. Just having "...love me tomorrow.." "Soldier Boy" "Dedicated to the One I Love" and "Mama Said" plus many others bring back some wonderful memories of younger times. The CD is pleasant listening and has a good quality of sound to it. If you like the ladies' groups from the early years of rock, can't go wrong with one

  4. You can't beat this set of 60's pop. The sound is great and songs you never knew The Shirelles sang. Next to the Supremes these girls ruled.

  5. "Tonight your mine completely, you give your love so sweetly, tonight the night of love is in your eyes, But will you love me tomorrow? "

One of the truly great groups, with a beat which made many of us who are now in the alte- kokker stage want to pick up our feet and dance.
The joy is in the rhythm and this group, along with Mary Welles seemed to me the best of its kind at the time. Yes, much better than the Supremes.
This is the kind of music that brings you to the poor heedless joy the carefree joy of wild youth- it may not last long but when it did it was crazy American fun.

  1. I have been a big fan of this musical for years and nothing beats the original broadway cast- They are amazing! Someone said it was a shame it was never captured on video, but it was. It was broadcast on NBC in the 80's and it was incredible. I wish they would release it on video I would love nothing more than to see it again. I had taped it but the tape was lost in a fire at my friend's apartment. I would love to see it get released on DVD. Maybe someday, for now this CD will have to do.

  2. Saw the Broadway Revue many years ago on Broadway. Always loved the moving music. Reordered the CD so I could put it on my ipod. Some songs are soulful, like "Black and Blue", but most are just plain fun and funny, like "Your feets too big". This should be brought back to Broadway now!

  3. Very few revue shows are as satisfying as this one. I'm obsessed with the finale right now; can't get enough of it! The cast is stellar, and it's very obvious that each song is telling its own story. What makes it outstanding are the arrangements.

  4. What a shame that Nell Carter didn't do more theater or sing more than she did. I would have loved to have seen and heard her do more. An incredible voice. How sad that she passed so young. I had the pleasure of meeting her and talking with her at length in 1984, and she was as warm and charming as could be. A lovely woman.

  5. Fans of Fats Waller should all have this in their collection. The night I went to see the show was so close to what is on the CD - it's amazing. This CD allows me to re-live that magical evening.

It was hard to find this CD. I looked high and low in my hometown, and am glad that Amazon had it to offer. Thanks to Amazon for having what some consider "out of the way" items for us 'finicky' consumers.

5 comments about Infiniment.

  1. A wonderful CD of one of the best writers and performers of our time. The singing oozes with intensity. Also, not so bad to get 40 songs on one CD.

  2. You don't have to know too much french too feel Brel's music.
The French version of "The Quest" from Man of la Mancha is a great version, and the disc came with a booklet with the english translation of every song, so you can have an idea of what he's singing. If youy are a true musician and like novelties, this is a great disc.

  3. Many thanks to previous reviewer for comprehensive info about different versions available and detailed track listing. This really helped me to make an informed decision.

Wish all my purchasing was as intelligently made!

  4. As an opera lover, I usually don't appreciate singing artists who don't posses a superbly "beautiful" voice. But, M. Brel is an exception....a wonderful exception! He puts so much emotion and "drama" into his singing that you forget about the quality of his voice and you find yourself involuntarily focusing on the quality of his soul! He's that good!

There is a "language barrier" to overcome, though. He sings only in French. This is "good" and "bad". The positive is that the French Language is a "musical language" which "musical quality" adds to the beauty of the songs. The negative aspect is that we English speaking people find it difficult to know what the songs are about. And, what makes it frustrating is that it is difficult to find "accurate" English translations of the songs. The off -Broadway play, "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well....." has "translations" but they are grossly inacurate and almost useless. That is where this CD comes in. "Infiniment" 2004 (not the 2003 import) has good tranlations included with the CD. This is the CD to purchase as an "introduction" to the wonderful "ouevre" (works) of Jacques Brel. After you buy this CD, you may become quite intrigued by this artist as I did...enough so that you might want to invest in the 3 DVD set which is now out.... which will permit you to see and hear this wonderful artist. Bon voyage and bon appetite! :o) Enjoy! (One more thing, I just found out that the credit for the VERY WONDERFUL translations for this CD is to be given to Thelma Blitz of New York City who did them for the record company. Brava to Ms. Blitz! I hope she translates more of Brel's songs in the future.) Email:boland7214@aol.

  5. For those of us using Brel's songs to help us learn or improve our French, it's important to understand the difference between this 2-disc set, released in 2004 on the DRG Records label (ASIN: B0002PUHGU) and the other version of Infiniment released in 2003 on the Universal Music label (ASIN: B0000AA8V2).

The songs themselves are the same. However, the DRG Records version includes official English translations of all 40 songs in the liner notes, along with English/French song titles. The original French lyrics are not included. The abbreviated song translations and excellent CD liner notes were done by Amazon.com Reviewer Thelma F. Blitz.

The Universal Music version includes song titles in French only, and French lyrics for tracks 2 through 6 of Disc 1 only. There are no lyrics at all for the remaining 35 songs, and no English translations of lyrics for any of the 40 songs.

To get all 40 songs in both French and English, one must purchase the DRG Records version of the Infiniment CD and a separate book of Brel's original French lyrics, such as "Jacques Brel, Oeuvre Intégrale" published by Robert Laffont S.A. in 1982 (ISBN 2-221-01068-X or -8).

You'll also want an excellent French-English dictionary to fully appreciate Brel's songs, and I can recommend none better than Collins Robert French Unabridged Dictionary, 7th Edition (ISBN: 0060748931). This French dictionary is the best one I have ever used over the past 30 years, it's truly magnificent. (See my review of it and the 13 images I placed there of dictionary pages).

    The Songs on Disc 1:

"La QuĂȘte" (The Quest, Track 1, Disc 1) is better known as "The Impossible Dream". This is Brel's version of the song also crooned by Elvis Presley, Andy Williams and The Supremes, and originally created by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion. I don't believe Brel's version is as satisfying as the original in English, however, at least for native English speakers.

Tracks 2 through 6 (Disc 1) are songs created in 1977, a year before Brel's death, but released for the first time by Brel's family through the International Jacques Brel Foundation in Brussels. Brel recorded these after part of one lung had already been removed due to lung cancer. Their release was somewhat controversial, at least with some of the musicians who worked with Brel over the years, because Brel had not finalized these recordings prior to his death. They felt that Brel's artistic vision would have been better served and better respected by keeping these recordings unpublished. On the other side, there was considerable demand for his last unpublished recordings and a lot of heartfelt gratitude towards the Brel family on the part of Brel fans around the world, who were ecstatic at this release of his previously unheard recordings.

Tracks 7 through 10 (Disc 1) had been previously released in 1977 on the Barclay label. Track 11 (Disc 1) is J'Arrive (I Arrive), which was previously released in 1968 on Barclay.

Tracks 12 through 15 and 18 through 20 (Disc 1) are in my view 7 of Brel's greatest songs of all, due to the elegant literary quality of his lyrics, the raw passion expressed in his voice, and the beautiful and haunting melodies and/or accompanying orchestrations.

"Quand On N'a Que L'amour" (When We Have Only Love, Track 12, Disc 1) is Brel's quintessential theme song (circa 1960) for idealistic young lovers who believe that love conquers all, in stark contrast to Brel's later more jaded songs, ranging from "Le Prochain Amour" (The Next Lover, Track 18, Disc 1) in 1961 to "La Chanson des Vieux Amants" (Song of the Old Lovers, Track 19, Disc 1) in 1967. "Quand On N'a Que L'amour" strikes a similar tone of optimism as another Brel song, "Au Printemps", which is not included in the Infiniment collection.

"Le Plat Pays" (The Flat Country, Track 13, Disc 1) is Brel's nostalgic homage to his home country of Belgium, sung with great affection. Although he grew up in Belgium, he spent nearly his entire musical career in Paris, France.

"Mon Enfance" (My Childhood, Track 14, Disc 1), one of Brel's most passionate songs, takes a candid look back at what Brel describes as a quite unhappy childhood, accompanied by ravishingly beautiful accompaniment by piano, cello, "Ondes Martenot" (sounds like an American "singing saw") and orchestra that manage to convey a strong sense of nostalgia despite the misery Brel describes. The English translation is very abridged; for some reason some of the verses were not provided.

"Les Vieux" (The Old People, Track 15, Disc 1), evokes a ticking clock as a metaphor for the passage of time. It paints a grim portrait of life in the twilight years, set to the beat of a grandfather clock, a triangle and a small orchestra.

"Le Prochain Amour" (The Next Lover, Track 18, Disc 1) is Brel's world-wisened and world-weary evaluation of love: "...it's good to be in love... I know just the same that the next love will be my next defeat..."

"La Chanson des Vieux Amants" (Song of the Old Lovers, Track 19, Disc 1) is a wonderful nostalgic look back at a romance of 20 years: all the storms the couple has endured, and "the sweet tender marvelous love" that continues today even as their "the tender war" persists. To me, Brel's passionate singing and the wonderful piano and orchestral accompaniment evoke all the romance and nostalgia of a World War II era Casablanca, making this one of Brel's greatest classic songs.

"Ne Me Quitte Pas" (Don't Leave Me, Track 20, Disc 1) is Brel's most famous torch song, in which he uses exquisite imagery to press his suit with a girl who has already left him, descending in the end into abject desperation as he struggles to maintain a link, any link at all, with the object of his love. Frank Sinatra was moved to sing an English version of this song ("If You Go Away"), which unfortunately doesn't do justice to the stunning poetry of the French original. This version uses a gorgeous piano accompaniment and a soto voce orchestra in the background. The last verse adds a flute to the piano accompaniment. This is my favorite song of the entire Jacques Brel repertoire because of the power and the haunting beauty of the lyrics, Brel's impassioned voice and the evocative music!

Some Great Songs on Disc 2:

"Amsterdam" (Track 1, Disc 2) is one of Brel's most famous songs. It's about the sailors who disembark in this Dutch port and how they deal with the vicissitudes of their lonely lives and the dreams that haunt them once they reach the shore.

"L'enfance" (Childhood, Track 6, Disc 2) is a song from the 1973 French comedy film "Far West" directed, co-scored and co-written by Jacques Brel, who also acted in the film. This song evokes a much more positive view of childhood then "Mon Enfance", and suggests how maintaining some of the elements of childhood can enhance life even in old age.

"Marieke" (Track 13, Disc 2) is a nostalgic song about a first love that played out on the beaches of Belgium one summer in his teen years. It alternates charmingly between Flemish and French, the two national languages of Belgium.

Other highly recommended Jacques Brel CDs you can find on Amazon.com include:

    Title (ASIN#) No. of Songs

Quand On N'a Que L'amour (B00000IYC9) 49 songs (3-CD set with 31 pages of Brel Photos and a 24-page Essay)
    The Olympia '61 & '64 (B000BJ7D96) 30 songs with great English translations (2-CD set)
Grand Jacques (B0009NDDDY) 15 songs including "Sur la Place"
    Vol. 1-Special Edition (B000042OFF) 16 songs
    Les Flamandes (B000006UOA) 21 songs
    Les Bonbons (B0000AKOLD) 14 songs
    Ballades Et Mots D'amour (B00003Q56T) 30 songs
    Vol. 1-Special Edition (ASIN: B000042OFF) 16 songs
Master Series: Jacques Brel (B0000046O5) 16 songs (same songs as on Vol. 1-Special Edition)
Volume 1 - Grand Jacques (B00000DXQY) 15 songs with "Sur La Place"
Grand Jacques Integrale 172 Titres (B000025BD8) 172 songs (10-CD set)

What's even more fabulous than the CDs, however, is the 3 volume DVD set released in 2003: Jacques Brel: Comme quand on etait beau. (ASIN: B0000AQJPR). The set includes 7.5 hours of live and staged performances as well as interviews and home video footage. Everything that the heart of a Jacques Brel fan desires to capture the essence of this very theatrical artist in a way that an audio only recording can not.

Also of great interest: the VHS video "Jacques Brel" (ASIN: B0001P1XG4), a video biography on the life and
music of Jacques Brel. Full length documentary features extensive live footage and interviews with Brel himself
as well as his daughter and associates. It is also available on DVD, but only from Films Media Group.

  1. For sentimantal reasons is the last in the series of collaborations between Riddle and Ronstadt. Excellent orchestration matching the clarity of Ronstadts voice perfectly. Probably the collection containing most widley recognised songs and very very easy to listen to. Haven't heard as nice a version of "You go to my head " since Keely Smith

  2. This CD is absolutely wonderful. It brings back memories I treasure. You will not be disappointed with the sound and Linda's fabulous voice. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this type of music.

  3. 5 stars, 4, 3 maybe - I so go back and forth!

(Note: Elektra hasn't put the 'trilogy' together in one package yet, but I'm reviewing as if they have.)

Poor Nelson Riddle - had to DIE to finally get his picture on the album art!

He's the main artist working the magic here, and he does a lovely job updating his sound for the seductive 80's - especially that glistening electric guitar!

Ronstadt was SUCH a major radio menace with all her soulless pop hits, it's a shocker she got the courage to take on the Sinatra songbook - and miracle she does as well as she does.

No, she doesn't have Sinatra's vulnerability, dignity or pathos (who does?), she's got her technical precision, though - and that's a fine enough basis for the endeavor.

Ronstadt is weakest on the big, bad suicide songs ("Goodbye," "'Round Midnight," etc.) but comes off charming as all get-out on the fluffier ditties ("Falling In Love Again," "For Sentimental Reasons," etc.). Swoon.

Consider this cordial music, dreamy music, lingerie music. It's credible, even delicious at times.

  4. Very enjoyable mood and listening music. We previously owned the albums on records. We are enjoying these wonderful renditions with Nelson Riddle's orchestra again.

  5. This album is very good but her first "oldies" with the N.R. orchestra still remains my favorite.

  1. I received this cd fairly quickly...in about 5 days with basic shipping and when I read this seller's info on this cd they claimed it was like new, but when I got it I was a bit skeptical that it would play because the back of the cd looked as though they tried to buff out scratches with some sort of machine...it does play though...EXCELLENT in fact. And for the price...amazing deal! -Lily_like_the_flower@yahoo.com

  2. I love the songs on this cd. He sings with such emotion. True love songs..

  3. The best songs on this album is Rythm Divine and Ritmo Total!Just those two songs alone makes me give it 5 stars!

  4. Being the son of legendary Julio Iglesias it was no coincidence that Enrique would become a singer aswell. Blessed with good looks, charisma and a smooth romantic voice, Enrique debuted with this English album in 1999. Many of the hit songs here are latin uptempo's like "Bailamos", "Rhythm Divine", "Alabao" and "Oyeme" that perfectly came in a time where Latin music sold well to the English market (Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Jlo, Shakira) but there are also great powerballads like "Be With You", "I Have Always Loved You " and "I'm Your Man" and covers like Bruce Springsteen's "Sad Eyes" and top notch duets "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" with Whitney Houston. There are also spanish versions of 3 songs towards the end, including the big hit "Rhythm Divine". From a commercial point of view, "Enrique" had it all and it sold really well also. Enrique was the artist on everybody's lips in 1999-2000. He would later release "Escape" that was also good and lastly "Seven" in 2003 that was a dissapointment. Now it seems like he's spending more time being a celebrity and dating hot models then being a good singer. A shame. "Enrique" is an exellent pop album though, recommended.

  5. I had to buy this cd again because my other one got ruined- totally worth the money- this cd is the best
