  1. When the Academy Awards nominates/awards best song of the year, it is a measure of that song's merits. Here are the Disney songs that made that grade, at least thru Aladdin. I hope to one day by "And the Winner Is... 2"!

    Enjoy this CD

  1. If you're a fan of Disney music, you can't go wrong with this CD. I especially enjoy "Fantasmic". For those who have never been to a Disney Park, this music is from a terrific "must see" show, staring Mickey and his imagination. I also love "The Siamese Cat Song" from "Lady & The Tramp". Songs from favorites like Jiminey Cricket, Winie The Pooh, to newer the movies "Hercules" & "Pocahontas". The only song I wasn't fond of was "Femininity". This is volume 4 in a collection of 5, all of which are very good. These songs will have you humming through your day!

5 comments about Classic Disney, Vol. 5.

  1. This si a wonderful collection of some of the best Disney songs out there. It offers a wide variety too. I strongly recomend this CD to anyone who loves Disney music.

  2. If you buy this because the label led you to believe that you were getting the Humphrey the Bear trash collecting song from "In The Bag". You are going to be disappointed. The song entitled "The Humphrey Hop" that is listed as being from that cartoon actually appears here as a choral piece with the same toon, but none of the same lyrics that were in the short, no vocals by Bill Thompson, the voice of The Ranger.

  3. The idea of issuing musical selections from Disney films, features and other areas of their world of entertainment continues to be quite satisfying. If you love the world that Walt Disney created and has continued on to this day, this CD continues to give you little musical vignettes across that span of time that are very nostalgic and uplifting as they did with the first four. Track 1: "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" from MULAN sung by Donny Osmond is really a great uplifting song. Track 22: "He's A Tramp" by Peggy Lee from LADY AND THE TRAMP is a classic. I hope they keep these CDs coming.

  4. These tunes are Classic Disney movie songs. Highly recommended.

  5. AGAIN, I invite Carrie to see the movie... Burton and Elfman movies are the best. Great director and great composer.

1 comments about Toy Story Sing-Along Songs.

  1. The TOY STORY SING ALONG SONGS is almost the perfect collection of music from the Toy Story movies. Most of the songs from Toy Story are here as well as most of the songs from Toy Story 2. There's also a few songs that have only appeared in read-along collections. However, the moving and mournful "I Will Go Sailing No More" from Toy Story is no where to be found and without it the ablum is lacking. Still it's a great collection of Toy Story music. My favorite songs on the album are:

"You've Got a Friend in Me" (both versions)

    "The Claw"

    "Woody's Roundup"

    "When She Loved Me"

Though "I Will Go Sailing No More" is nowhere to be found, this is still the best collection of Toy Story music out there. Great for any fan.

5 comments about Classic Disney, Vol. 4.

  1. In 1995, Disney released a two volume set of classic tunes. The following year they put out volume three. And in 1997 this volume was released. Unfortunately by this time, most of the truly classic songs had already been picked, leaving a bit of a hodge-podge for volume four. True, there are some wonderful picks from the vaults such as Dumbo's "Baby Mine" and "The Siamese Cat Song" from Lady and the Tramp.

Some songs hadn't been created at the time of the first collections. These soon-to-be classics include "I Will Go Sailing No More" from Toy Story, "Just Around the Riverbend" from Pocahontas and "Home" from the Broadway adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Some I guess might be considered "lost classics". I had never heard of Summer Magic or In Search of the Castaways, but I do enjoy "Femininity" and "Enjoy It!" respectively. And I do think it odd that they count the overture from the Disneyland/world show "Fantasmic!" as a classic (even if it is a rollicking ride).

And then there are those that really aren't classics at all, but more of a historical filler. I doubt even the most rabid Disney-phile would include "Stop, Look and Listen/I'm No Fool" or "Although I Dropped $100,000 (I Found a Million Dollars in Your Smile" in their list of top songs.

For the most part, this is an excellent compilation. But, unlike its predecessors, I find myself using the skip track button on occasion.

  2. no matter what this cd is a booty kickin awesome addition 2 all disney LOVERS!!! yeah, go cd, go cd, its ur birthday, go cd

  3. The idea of issuing musical selections from Disney films, features and other areas of their world of entertainment is really appreciated lovingly by many. If you love the world that Walt Disney created and has continued on to this day, this CD gives you little musical vignettes across that span of time that are very nostalgic and uplifting. I really love track 22: "I Wonder" from SLEEPING BEAUTY sung by Mary Costa. Track 23: "I Bring You a Song" from BAMBI sung by Donald Novis is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. They are indeed very nostalgic, as is the entire CD.

  4. This Disney CD is for every loyal disney fan, who wants all the disney cd but can't afford them. The many songs include hits from all the best disney movies, including "A Goofy Movie" "Cinderella" "Sleeping Beauty" "Robin Hood" and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" It also has songs from Disney World and Disney Land. It is a great CD!!!!!!!!

  5. Very good album of disney songs. I really enjoyed listening to it with my kids. The kids went wild! Its a good buy, I suggest you buy it.

5 comments about Baby Newton.

  1. My nephew is in love with these since he was less than 6 months old. Just play it for him and he is hypnotized. Kids up to 4 years old would love this too! I love watching it too. Very educational and entertaining.

  2. The name "Baby Einstein" can lull you into thinking it's okay or even good for babies to watch t.v., but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television at all to children under 2 because so many studies have proven its harmful effects on children. Studies have shown that:

    - for every hour of television a baby watches a day, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.
    - among babies ages 8 months to 16 months, every hour spent daily watching programs such as 'Brainy Baby' or 'Baby Einstein' translated into six to eight fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age."
    - brain wave activity in babies is slower when watching television than when sleeping.

I believe television should be used SPARINGLY and with caution, and without any delusions of it increasing baby's intelligence. As for making them more intelligent, Dr. William Sears says, "relationships, not things, make babies smarter." The best way to make babies smarter and calmer is to carry them a lot. Slings, pouches and carriers help make this more manageable.

    - Carrying babies an extra 3 hours a day resulted in 40% less crying!

Babies who are frequently carried pick up verbal skills faster, and develop better core muscle strength and balance. My Listmania list "Natural Parenting for Baby's First Year" has more information on babywearing, or you can google "babywearing" or "television and baby studies" for your own research.

Crown Crafts The Original NoJo BabySling by Dr. Sears - Black Chambray is a great starter sling.

Finally, I'd suggest "SIGNING TIME" videos - not to be confused with "Baby Signing Time" - as a last resort for OCCASIONAL viewing instead of other baby videos because at least baby can learn sign language. Communicating in sign language is proven to:

    - reduce frustration and tantrums
    - accelerate language development
    - promote parent-child bonding

I found the entire series at my local library. I especially liked Signing Time! Volume 4: Family, Feelings & Fun DVD and 'naming' feelings also increases emotional intelligence in babies.

  3. My kids loved this one the best. The puppets were absolutely adorable. The most personality I've ever seen in puppets. Truly genius! My kids learned their shapes and I even loved watching it with them.

  4. I started putting my Grandbaby in front of this video when he was 1 month old he watches the 30 mins of it sometimes another round. The Einstein video collection is the best learning tool out there has far as I'm concerned. Love them all

  5. I know my shapes...that's what your toddler will be saying before too long. It's set to music and your kids won't be able to look away. Our toddler learned her shapes and colors, and loved the music as well. A great teaching tool and entertaining to boot.

2 comments about Elvis - The Great Performances, Vol. 2 - The Man and the Music.

  1. With 33 movies, nearly 20 TV appearances and who knows how much unseen footage you wouldn't think compiling a decent video collection of Elvis' greatest hits would be difficult. Yet somehow they've messed it up.

The music here may be generally five star quality but that's about the only thing that is. To start with, both this and its companion volume Center Stage are criminally brief clocking in at under an hour each. A lot more quality clips could have been fit on both tapes.

The clips the compilers have chosen though are sharp. However, the way they are presented is absolutely atrocious. The narration is dull and unenlightening. Too much space is taken up by incidental background music while George Klein states mind numbing platitudes. ("Elvis generally didn't like to hang out with the celebrity set but when he did he enjoyed the company of other performers." "Many fans were surprised to see Elvis make his first appearance after the army on a Frank Sinatra TV show.")This is done at the expense of providing context for a lot of the clips like the opening "American Trilogy". We learn nothing we didn't already know from this video. This is not even to mention the worst facet of the narration which is Klein's tendency to babble over the music as he does on the intro of "If I Can Dream" and the middle of "Got O' Lot O' Livin' to Do". (Wouldn't it have been possible to point out Elvis' mother before the song?)

The presentation of the clips themselves is incredibly flat. One minute we're locked in with some still pictures and the dull narration then comes the clip. Many of the clips are started a few seconds late thus diminishing their power. Worse several of the clips are truncated. This is most devastating on "Mean Woman Blues" from "Loving You" where some of Elvis' best moves are cut. (In Center Stage the entire middle section of "Jailhouse Rock" is omitted.)They are short songs already; there's no need to cut them especially in a 55 minute video.

There's worse. All of the clips from Elvis' movies are overdubbed with the official recorded release. I know this was done to allow for the best musical quality but it gives the impression of inauthenticity. Worse than that though some clips are marred by senseless overdubs like the handclaps on "Return to Sender".

That said, this is still the best we've got. There's some great music on here and Elvis was definitely a gifted visual performer. For collectors the only rarities are the gorgeous light falsetto performance of "Fame and Fortune" from the Sinatra and "Blue Suede Shoes" from his first Milton Berle show. Both of these though are just terrific. The Berle show is especially neat in that we get to see Elvis' band, especially Bill Black, echo his coolness and showmanship. They're rock's first hipsters. A lot of the other stuff is also essential like "Treat Me Nice", "If I Can Dream", "Always on My Mind" and "Mean Woman Blues" although it is available elsewhere in a superior presentation. Still if you don't have the dough to fork out for all those videos this is the most effective one stop shopping you'll find at this time.

If you can pick this up with Center Stage and the VH1 Documentary "From the Waist Up" in the box at a bargain price do it. At least you'll have a start at compiling a coherent Elvis collection with those three together. Until somebody wakes up and assembles a good career video retrospective, you'll have to settle for that.

  2. The first song in Volume 2: The Man and the Music is American Trilogy that Elvis perfromed in Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii. Plus Blue Suede Shoes that is on Volume 1, is also on Volume 2. Once again you can hear Elvis Presley perfroming songs from shows from The Dorsey Brothers, Stage Show to The Ed Sullivan Show. Plus you can hear songs from Elvis' movies from Treat Me Nice from Jailhouse Rock to Return to Sender from Girls! Girls! Girls! Which was Elvis Presley's life was made up, girls, girls, girls, girls. If Elvis loved girls so much, why did he wait until the late 60's to get married and why did he only get married once? Fame and Fortune is also on this volume. And you can buy all tree volumes speartly for buy them together on Elvis The Great Perfromances on video or dvd.
