5 comments about Little Mermaid.

  1. I have such a soft spot for musicals -- especially Disney musicals. The Little Mermaid is one of my very favorites -- most of the songs are so catchy I can't help but tap my foot and sing along. After a bad day there's nothing better than turning this puppy on full blast. Every song you remember is here, including the wonderful orchestral score.

The bonus songs are terrifying, however. Whoever thought that the Little Mermaid needed to be put to horrific, half-baked pop/r&b and shrieked by children of dubious talent should probably have large rocks thrown at them. Just a suggestion. However, I chose to ignore them, and I rate this disc by the value of the first disc, whose superior quality easily drowns out the second CD's terrifying contributions.

Anyway, just get this CD and enjoy the delightful croonings of Ariel and co! You won't regret it!

  2. Ive always loved the Little Mermaid and was excited to see this set, but I have to say I was disappointed to hear the Jonas Brothers singing Poor Unfortunate Souls. When Ursula sings this song kids know she's one of the "bad guys" but its a strange message that daughters and their friends get when the hottest boy band out today is singing about girls needing to basically shut up and be pretty to get a man. Stick with the originals and skip disc 2.

  3. I bought this CD mainly for the Jonas Brothers song, "Poor Unfortunate Souls". But the whole CD is excellent & I liked it so much that I played it twice the day I got it!

  4. The CD certainly captures the essence of the film. My daughters enjoy listening to the CD while they are playing and they don't have to be watching tv all the time!

  5. Little Mermaid was the first video I ever owned myself. Loved it from the first day I saw it. I don't hold the same view as I did as a child but it's still a wonderful story. And the music is just plain fun. The best part of this special edition is Ashley Tisdale's rendition of Kiss The Girl. Let me start by saying I have issues about Disney's need to turn every actor into a singer and every singer into an actor and the promote them to the ends of the earth. And it's not so much Ashley Tisdale - though she's very talented - that makes me love this version of the song. Whoever revised the arrangement is who I'd like to really thank. I love every thing about how this version was put together. Upbeat. Fun. Totally "sqeeable". But then I'm a hopeless romantic.

5 comments about Disney Silly Songs: 20 Simply Super Singable Silly Songs.

  1. Some of these songs i think are very old and not for today's market. Not catchy. Sorry disney its a bust from me.

  2. Lots of silly songs, many are the kind kids used to sing at camp way back when. Good fun for the family. Great for playing in the car on trips.

  3. I remember listening to those songs on a tape when I was in elementary school. I loved it. I played the tape on our tape player in our living room when I was in middle school and my mom says those were stupid. My dad told me that time it was for little kids.

  4. My sister and I had this record growing up and we would listen to it on road trips with our parents all the time. I remember most of the words and I love being able to share these timeless songs with my 16-month-old son. He's already singing along even though he can't say the words yet! I definitely recommend this CD for all children!

  5. My brother and I used to listen to this all the time when we were kids. Every once in a while we will still sing the songs together, we are 24 and 25 years old. I am so psyched to find the cd, Im getting one for my brother for christmas. He is going to get the biggest kick out of it! This is a must have for all kids. One of the greatest CDs ever!

5 comments about Melody Time (Disney Gold Classic Collection).

  1. I was SO looking forward to this. I was born in the late 50's and grew up watching Johnny Appleseed and Pecos Bill on The Wonderful World of Disney. The opportunity to introduce my son to a cowboy who rode the cyclone was just too good to be true. Turns out, it really WAS too good to be true.

Why has Disney decided to hack up all their old stuff? Why can't they leave the old films as they were created? Everyone KNOWS the times were different. What's next? Will the ever-present pipe be digitally removed from all the Popeye the Sailor cartoons? Will Tom and Jerry be edited to hit each other with foam bats instead of pots, pans, irons and the occasional safe? I know those aren't Disney products, but what if the whole industry starts following their lead?

Come on, Disney!! Your body of work is incredible! I would even consider it the common man's art. Whether it's cartoons or live action movies like Mary Poppins or Song of the South, don't go CHANGING them. You don't see people putting more clothes on the Venus de Milo or Da Vinci's David because children might see them. They are what they are. Put a disclaimer on your films if you must, or put a revised version alongside the original, but LEAVE THE ORIGINAL ALONE!

And speaking of Song of the South (where you can't find an original copy of the movie OR the book anymore) will you also be getting rid of Peter Pan due to the way it depicts pirates and Native Americans? Will we lose the whole "What Makes a Red Man Red" song? And what about the scenes in Dumbo clearly depicting all the clowns getting drunk? We don't want revisionist versions of the movies. We want to share with our kids the movies we grew up with.

It's terribly disappointing to buy a product only to discover it's not as advertised. If you tell me it's Pecos Bill, I expect it to be the Pecos Bill I saw as a child. Want to remake it entirely? Fine! But don't change the old one. Truth in advertising, people!

  2. It was great fun seeing and hearing Pecos Bill again. About 55 years ago I had a "book" with pictures to follow the story of Pecos Bill while listening to 45 records. I had never seen the short movie. I don't remember his cigarette until reading other reviews. The other shorts were fun too.

  3. political correctness which is so lame today anyway (removing Pecos Bill's cigarette), if anyone knows about or has seen some of the video games out now that show hearts being ripped out, massacres everywhere, this is a kitten's picnic by comparison, even with the cigarette.
As I sat writhing in agony watching the Whoopie Goldberg apologia before the start of every single Looney Tunes cartoon on one DVD set I own, I just had to wonder; WHY???? YES< we KNOW about the older times and the way things were then, we KNOW. PLEASE don't keep telling us what we already know.
Now having said that, I do love this collection and it is worth buying as is until they become more reasonable and independent in their thinking and treatment of us, the audience/consumer/customer.
One can only hope and pray we get these great classics as is, uncut and as they were meant to be seen in their entirety; this misguided PC and censorship has to stop somewhere, sometime, but until it does, we have to suck it up and get the cartoons we love so much.
P.S. WHERE is Song of the South????

  4. They've cut it up - it's not the real deal. Unless you like watching R movies cut for TV, or eating cereal without milk, or non-alcoholic beer, or "mild" salsa, don't buy this desecration.

  5. I purchased this dvd as a music teacher and it has some segments that will be good to use with my classes. Others were not as useful, because they're not so music specific. I particularly wanted Blame It on the Samba and Johnny Appleseed.

5 comments about Baby Einstein - Discovering Shapes.

  1. My older child grew up with Baby Newton and enjoyed it, but my younger child loves Discovering Shapes. At 20 months, he loved and started recognizing the shapes as they came on the screen. At 22 months, he now likes to point out circles and ovals to me wherever we go. This is by far one of our family favorites.

  2. The whole Einstein series has been a wonderful addition to our household. This one has good puppets and music, and my toddler likes to point out the different shapes. Another excellent movie!

  3. The name "Baby Einstein" wants to make parents think it's okay for babies to watch this program, but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television at all to children under two, maybe because:

    (1) - Recent studies have shown that every hour spent watching programs daily such as 'BABY EINSTEIN' or 'BRAINY BABY' translated into 6-8 fewer words in their vocabularies as compared with other children their age (among babies ages 8-16 months).

    (2) - For every hour of television a baby watches daily, their chances of acquiring an attention deficit disorder increases by 10%.

    (3) - Brain wave activity is slower when watching television than when sleeping in babies.

In summary, three hours every day of watching programs like this day can result in 30% greater chance of ADD and 18-24 fewer vocabulary words!!

  4. I have to admit I was skeptical that Baby Einstein had come out with a new shapes DVD but this is a much better shapes DVD than Baby Newton. My 1 year old had no interest in Baby Newton but loves Discovering Shapes. My 4 year old loves it too! Especially since he is the one who picked it out for his brother's first birthday present. I think the editing has definitely gotten better with time.

  5. This was Baby Newton minus the clown. I felt cheated, the format was so similar even my son picked up on it. No new material. He got bored after just a few minutes. I love the movies, my cildren learn a lot from them, but I think the producers got lazy on this one. (I have a two year old and six month old) We love doing the discovery cards together and learning new words, as well as watching the extra puppet shows- again nothing new for him to learn- and there were only three extra puppet shows...

I haven't been inpressed with the comapny since Baby on the Go, and for the record- I have seen, and own EVERY einstein dvd!

5 comments about Radio Disney Jams, Vol. 10.

  1. Great Tunes, awesome music.
CD came 2 days after ordering and in excellent condition.
I will recommend this CD to all my friends.

  2. I teach special needs high school students and recently bought this to add to my collection of CDs for free/social time. The CD is perfect for my class! The lyrics are all uplifting and positive yet much more age appropriate than some of the other things in my collection. Miley Cyrus, The Cheetah Girls, Jonas Brothers and the various cast members of the "High School Musical" movies are hugely popular with my kids and they appreciate the selections from their favorites. And this forty something teacher loves HEY THERE DELILAH by Plain White Tees. I will definitely be looking for other volumes of Radio Disney Jams in the near future. P.S. I haven't even tried the video of five of the songs that was included but it is nice to have too. There are fifteen songs on the regular CD.

  3. Being a mom with kids that watch Disney, I love these CDs. I take them to work and let my students listen to them. I songs are fun. It's also neat to hear some music I hear from the Disney Channel.

  4. Not only do my children ages 10 and 8 love this CD, but I love it as well!! This is definitely a CD for the whole family.

  5. I really enjoyed the songs on the cd and the mmusic vidoes are awesome .

5 comments about Disney's Greatest 3.

  1. My family loves listening to this CD. We have numerous Disney music CD's and we listen to them constantly in the car. I would defintely recommend this to any Disney fan.

  2. The songs on this cd are a bit more "adult" than on the others. I really enjoy, but the kids don't really ask for this one.

  3. The songs on this CD are a little newer and less "classic-ish" than the songs on previous albums in this line, but I still find them to be a good completion to my collection. Again, there is a variety of songs, which is good for car trips and such.

  4. I ordered all 3 of the Disney's greatest cds for our road trip to Disney world and they are all awesome! This one is not as good as the first and second but it rounds out the collection well.

  5. Right from the beginning, this CD will move you. Track 1 "I'll Try" might be the most under-rated or under-appreciated Disney track of all-time. Following this is equally engaging "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story. Other good tracks include light-hearted "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast and o course The Siamese Cat song, which is a classic.

I held off purchasing this CD as I have other Disney CDs with overlapping tracks, and those tracks on this CD I was unaware of didn't interest me. I'm glad I bought this CD though, because I didn't know what I was missing.

5 comments about Disney's Princess Collection: The Music of Hopes, Dreams and Happy Endings.

  1. Bought as a gift for my 4-year old niece for her birthday, this CD stays in my car for her use when I'm driving. She loves it and asks for individual princesses and we sing along. I don't know how many times we've listened to it already (4 or 5, I imagine), but I anticipate many more. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to remember the words on my own. :)

  2. I want to start off by saying that if you're looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD, this is the one to get. This CD contains 12 tracks featuring 7 princesses (at the time that this CD was made, Mulan did not yet exist, in fact, the Disney Princess line itself did not exist). Unlike many other Disney Princess CDs, this one contains a *complete* collection of princess songs. That means that all the songs that any Princess actually sings is on this CD. No, not every song from every Princess movie is on here, but I wouldn't expect them to be, nor do I think that they'd even fit onto this CD. Something that's nice about this CD compared to some of the other Disney Princess CDs is that there is no subversive advertising. That means no mediocre songs from Cinderella V or the Little Mermaid X are on it. There aren't even any songs sung by non-Princesses, all the songs that are sung partly by others are at least partially sung by a Princess as well. One of the most interesting things about the album, in my opinion, is that it contains 'Home' by Susan Egan as Belle. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle has no large solo songs of her own, so they included this track from the original 1994 cast recording of the Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical. This addition makes the CD more interesting and does not at all detract from the quality of the CD.
Again, if you are looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD or just find the best one, I would encourage you to buy this one. The selection of songs is complete and there isn't any annoying, mediocre album filler. I highly recommend this Disney Princess CD.

  3. Bought this CD for Christmas for my 5 year old and we love it!! A great buy!!!!!

  4. i love this cd! my dad got it for me for my birthday 3 years ago and i still love it

  5. I bought this cd for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She LOVES it! She asks me to play it every day and we both sing along to all of the songs. She has even picked up on the songs that she didn't know before she received it. I love it because now she is more interested in listening to the cd and dancing with me in the house than watching a video. In quiet times, she likes to sit on my lap and look at the pictures in the liner notes. The recordings are beautiful, it is the one children's cd that I can listen to over and over. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is definitely worth the money.

5 comments about Walt Disney Records : Children's Favorite Songs, Vol. 4.

  1. I have 6 of these kiddie CD's in the car and my 19 month old son "sings" along and dances in his seat. He loves them!

  2. This is a great collection just for the songs themselves. Even better, the whole song is included, not just a verse or maybe two. And the lyrics are clear, important for aging memories. I look forward to sharing the whole set with my grandchildren.

  3. My daughter (11) and nephews (8, 1) all love this CD. The older kids have fun singing & dancing with the baby, and the baby loves to listen to the CD by himself as well.

  4. My kids love these volumes of Children's Favorite Songs, as do I. The arrangements and voicings are child friendly without being dull.

  5. Great songs on this CD. Nice variety, wonderful singers. My grandchildren want it on in the car every time we go out. Lots of old favorites that I like too.

5 comments about Disney's Lullaby Album, Vol. 2.

  1. This is the best Lullaby CD. My daughter goes to sleep with it on evry night. Its very relaxing, and I enjoy the music as well.It was a great buy!

  2. I enjoy mellow music but this is almost sleep inducing. It's actually quite boring and could not classify it as romantic if thinking of using it as any kind of background music. But I imagine it can lull the little ones

  3. LOVE IT! I use this CD during my daughter's bedtime routine. It is VERY mellow. It's perfect for bedtime.

  4. I love this CD. I bought this for my son almost two years ago and we still enjoy listening to it. I just recently bought the Disney Lullaby Album Vol 1 for my daughter, and I definatly prefer vol 2 to vol 1. The entire CD is quiet and soothing. At no point does the music rise up and get too loud, it's very consistant which is good. So I don't have to worry about him being woken up by a burst of loud music. Hands down this one is much better than vol 1. We might have to buy a second copy of this one.

  5. It takes only a few moments after I start this CD and both of my kids are out cold!! It is so soft, soothing and a pleasure to listen to. The music is fantastic!
