  1. Reggae was originally marketed as one shot singles to a listening public that craved the latest and favest sounds coming out of the dancehalls and chicken shack studios of Trenchtown. This is a collection of the best from the mid '70's. If you love roots rock reggae and dub masterpieces, before all the cliches were in place, this is where you come. For my money, it gets no finer than this.

  1. This has got to be some of the cheesiest music I have ever heard... and I love it! I bought a few of their CDs from elsewhere so unlike a few of the other reviewers, I wanted the English version of a good amount of their songs. CDs 1 and 2 are in German while #3 is in English. Unfortunately, the songs on CD #3 are not on the other CDs in German.

It's still a great collection, especially if you are looking for either:
    1. English tracks of Dschinghis Khan
    2. Some of the lesser popular songs of theirs.

I wanted both, and am really satisfied. These CDs go really well in a Dschinghis Khan collection since the (#3) English disc's songs are mostly the popular ones, and a lot of other Dschinghis Khan CDs have those anyways.

  2. It would be nice if "Kontiki" is included in this 36 tracks collection. But I know I can't have everything. Their music is euro dance pop at it's best. Boney M, Army of Lovers & Aqua come to mind when I listen to their music. It's ture that these are mindless dance pop, but they do bring back lot of good old memories for me. Their music is for people who love to dance, have a drink and have a good time. So, let's party.

  3. Ralph Siegels Handschrift.

  4. This is not a best collection of a great German Disco Team.
It has some very well known songs and some not common in original versions (AAD Quality).
The main problem that majority of the greatest hits are not originals, but English versions. If it is important for you to have the originals, you will be disappointed with this particular set. However, it has almost all of the best songs wit only few exceptions.

  5. Granted, many listeners might fail to initially notice Dschinghis Khan due to the fact that while most modern music centers around lyrics in English, DK sticks to German. If you can forgive DK for that indescrepancy (or understand German) you are, however, in for quite an exotic journey. By concept, essentially all DK songs focus on historical personas or unusual geographical spots. DK's crowning as the National Geograpic of pop music is unquestionable. There are a few weak links in the chain, but for most part DK songs attract the musically adventurous mind with a fun journey across time and places!

    Thumbs up!

1 comments about Renaissance Presents Pacha Ibiza, Vol. 2.

  1. It's been awhile since i have bought a CD that I absolutely thought was horrible. Well, that fatefull day came once again when Pacha Ibiza, Vol. 2 arrived. Most of the music is absolutley nothing new, and CD's 2 and 3 sound like they are geared for the Studio 54 audience. If I wanted Diana Ross 70's music I would buy it. I bought Pacha Ibiza, Vol. 2 thinking it would be smooth bumpin beats. Try shallow, clunky, and washed up. Do not buy this CD, and do not buy this cd for anyone, it's a horrible waste of money and time. Buy Pure Pacha 2005, or Pure Pacha Winter Sessions. Both are very good.

3 comments about Soul Heaven Presents Blaze.

  1. I really liked this double disk cd, it made me wanna dance and it took me back to my San Fransisco days :)

  2. I have to inform all of you (at least those who are interested in dance music at all) of this amazing three-disc set mixed together by Blaze for the Soul Heaven. I don't know if I have the proper qualifications to really get into why you should get it but it's just good stuff. I'm not the biggest club goer and I've been out of the scene for a while now but I have been going to the Turntables on the Hudson parties here in NYC as of late and this set definitely appeals to that crowd.

Each disc has a good amount of songs that you can play over and over and Blaze is one of the most consistent groups (consisting of Kevin Hedge and Josh Milian) anyway in terms of their releases, so automatically this is a purchase to be seriously considered. It's soulful, it has great tracks and the transitions from track to track are flawless.

This is a very tight mix for those who appreciate artists like Masters at Work, Gilles Peterson, Jeannie Hopper, Erick Morillo, Kings of Tomorrow, Danny Krivit, Joe Clausell, Armand Van Helden and Larry Levan.

  3. I've purchased house CDs where I have been excited about its contents, only to be disappointed when place it in my CD player. That is not the case with Soul Heaven. It is soulful underground at it's best. I can actually enjoy every cut and feel like I am at Club Shelter (NY). Other compilation producers should take note as this is how a CD should be produced. While the 3rd CD is full of Blaze music that I already own, the CD is excellent CD from start to finish. Enjoy!

5 comments about Gatecrasher Experience.

  1. I mean i bought this lasts night and i must say its pretty good. Its one of those cds that you just sit and chill to in your room and think about everything around you. Or atleast it does that to me. But if you are looking at buying it i picked a copy up at Best Buy and they had it for ( $12) so i def def suggest checkin your local one out. I asked the guy why it was so cheap and he was like "i dunno" so im not going to complain.

  2. This 3CD Set compilation is great first of all because of the artist that are put in it, going from Rank 1 to Blank & Jones to Mauro Picotto, can't get better than any of this, this cd is filled with great melodic and soft trance, that is so uplifting that you'll never want to set your finger on the pause button.

  3. Really really disappointing! If you looking for something similar to Gatecrasher Discotech set or Global Sound System, you won't find it in this one. This one is very dark, heavy, pounding tek-trance style. Although mixing is pretty good, on the other hand it's a lot easier to mix heavy trance. For those of you who really liked the Discotech set, skip this one, save youself disappointment and money.

  4. There are heavy techno dance disks; there are trancier blissouts... though the quiet disk 3, which is like Pink Floyd on ecstasy is pretty much up there; but this collection moves beyond Gatecrashers more commercial tendencies into a more blissed out drift, which has moments of such sweetness, whilst not compromising on relentless beat. It is a desert island disk. A must have. I couldn't live without it.

    Highlight cuts include;
Universal State of Mind's "All Because of You"... slow trance build into bliss, with the growing rising beat... pure heaven
Bassmen's "Sending SOS"... picking up on the euphoric elements of the Police track "Message in the Bottle"
DJ Wag's "Life on Mars"... a dark foreboding intense dance trip across the universe
Mauro Picotto's "Bangkok"... with Picotto's normally extraordinary insistent pounding beat

  5. There are some definite impact songs offered in this 3 pack party from Gatecrasher that will find there way into the best clubs that spin house and trance (some already have)! Songs like "Troy" (WOW!!! Sinead will plaster you to the ceiling and not let you come down), "Godd" (an amazing edgy hard hands in the air finish for any CD), "Club Bizzare" (the hardest rippin mental trance danceable in the set), "Suburban Train" (which has already seen some exposure on other mixes but a classic) are just some of the goodies that will definitely make you sweat and bounce. The mixing throughout is solid and tight but "some" of the filler songs are a little boring. Like any hot mix in this genre, a five star rating should be reserved for those golden CD's that you find yourself playing from start to finish without skipping around...that's why I give this 3 pack a four....great songs but you will want to skip around to find them !! HOWEVER the Chill CD is a pure dream and waaaaaaay better than the one offered on the Gatecrasher Digital (the black counterpart 2002 release)...I'm not a huge chill fan but this one is the goods !! You will feel like you are floating on this super silky smooth mix !!! Gatecrasher Experience 2002 pulls together some hot club dance-lovelies for the raver in all of us plus finishes with super smooth chillin'....overall a solid 4 lollie rating with only slight deductions made for the hefty price tag and the inability to maintain intensity....then again you do have to take a breath from time to time!!

3 comments about Pure Chillout Moods.

  1. It was a major let down... i gave it away to be used in an artclass- Not a good composition of music i do highly recomend Tranquial moods. pure moods 1-3 and celtic moods.

  2. This collection isn't good enough as I expect ! But it's fair.

  3. This four CD set has many tracks that appeared on a six CD
boxed set called "This is Chillout". Five trks on CD 1,
four trks on CD 2, six trks on CD 3, and two trks on CD 4.
I have not considered what trks were on the "Mix" CD's 5&6
on the earlier Chillout set. That is 17 out of 42 trks,
more than a third. Due to some killer new trks, the Macy Grey
trk for example, this may still appeal to mature Chillout fans.
It is certainly worth the price as a "Starter Set" for Newbies.

5 comments about The Annual 2003 UK.

  1. Firstly, i'm English and from the UK, so if anyone knows what MoS's music like, its me. And believe me, anyone who thinks this annual is good NEEDS to listen to the original, and the best annuals before Millenium, when it all changed.
Before Millenium, the MoS annuals had been based around the London club itself - it was real popular. The annuals had character, the songs were longer, they were mixed stunningly, and... it wasnt commercial!
By the time The Annual 2003 was released, MoS was already using commercialism as the driving force behind sales - to get kids to go out and buy the album for their discos. But in a way, I think people are slagging off MoS too much - I'll admit, the album captures "2002's biggest hits" (not there usual route), but people are forgetting this is, The Annual OF 2002. There were good/bad tunes, but the albums good because of its character - ok, theres been no heart or effort from any dj's - its entirely computer mixed! but alot of tunes remind you of 2002, which where good times - commercial or not!
Mellow's probably the word to describe the feel of the album, and quite wintery (again, personal opinion) alot of tunes I used to hear years back are here, and remind me of good times. One such song is 'Heaven' of course - yep, quite cheesy perhaps, but still helps that overall feel. 'Lets get it right' and 'My vision' are 2 other nice tunes. Its got its feel good tunes to like 'Can you feel' which I love, and Forever. But this is only my personal feeling towards album, so again, it depends if you can remember some (or most!) of the tunes from 2002.
On the more technical side, this album will never win awards for great mixing. Its a shame that some great tunes have been poorly remixed, and some are quite woeful. This was also the first MOS album to have SCOOTER with one of his pathetic tunes, in which he shouts out mindless, random words and sentences like "Jungle Solider" with a chip munk singing in the background. I think after seeing his name on the tracklist I knew who this album was intended for, and certainly not older teens/adults. And of course, I don't need to mention Las Ketchup...
Its hard to choose the best cd, but cd2 has the least cheezy material. Point of view is another memorable song, and At night is good too, but your bound to find most of these on countless 2002 albums. Its just such shame that the days when annuals came if faux leather style cases, with descent booklets looking back at the year, but most importantly they where intended for older teens/adults are gone. This album would be perfect for a school disco unfortunately, but i'll still listen and think back to when things like that happend, because it was fun! And yes, I have grown up now.
Cd3 tries to capture a party theme, with some... unsual choices. The remix of the classic song Take My Breath Away is not bad, but nothing compared to the original. The worst song is Culture Flash, which has a horrible, horrible Euro style synth and I just cant listen to it. But Free is one of my faves - a nice song, and Moonlight Shadow is another one of those looking back songs.
All in all, this album crosses a fine line, but it clearly depends on so many things. With cd1 probably having the most "input" from a person, in the order of songs, 'some' mixing etc thats probably my fave cd, but there all quite average. However... if your wanting to look back at 2002 with good memories, I'd say buy it, because in that sense, this is a real classic now in '06. In an MoS Annual sense, this is a disaster for them. The album would have been appreciated so much more if another label had made it... Anyone who remembers '02 in a good way should get this album now. But, if you want the TRUE annuals, proudly presented in their leather book cases, I suggest you date back to 1995 and from then on, when the 5 best Annuals were produced - volumes 1,II, III, IV, and Millennium Edition. Those were the days when the annuals were a piece of art.

  2. CD-2 IS THE GREATEST THING EVER!!!! JUST GET IT FOR DISC 2, the rest blow but.. WOW!!!

  3. This has to be one of the best compilations of dance hits to come out in a long time. The mixing is some of the best I've heard in a while, each song playing right off of the previous with perfect smoothness. It seems dance compilations are a dime a dozen these days, but Ministry of Sound has once again proven themselves to be the authority of dance and club music the world over.

  4. Even though this CD has gotten a LOT of bad reviews, I really enjoy it. It's the only MOS compilation I have (but hopefully I will be buying much more someday). There are a lot of good tracks on here but it has its share of bad ones, too...easily. But I am very pleased with it.

Best- Krystal K's "Let's Get It Right", Warrior's "If You Want Me", Kelly Llorenna's "Tell It To My Heart", Shakedown's "At Night", Dee Dee's "Forever" (obviously), Rezonance Q's "Someday", Divine Inspiration's "The Way", N-Trance's "Forever", Jurgen Vries' "The Theme", etc.

Worst- Sushi's "The Earthshaker" (corny & just awful); most of the covers on there except for Cyndi Lauper; DJ Alligator's "Lollipop", Interactive's "Forever Young"...

Out of the 3 cd's, I think CD1 is the best, with the exception of "Earthshaker", the one track that I skip every time. Buy it!

  5. These 3 CD does not remind me of the past Annual release from MOS. Instead they remind me of DDR Arcade. Of all those bubblegum songs. and what's going on with all the cheessy chimp-squirre female vocals? It wasn't random either, it was intentional... If you are looking for 3 CDs of junk with only 4-7 good songs, buy it today. If not, then save your dollars for the MOS Chillout Cd set instead. They are much better.
