5 comments about I Want My 80's Box.

  1. The 1980's really was the golden age of music videos. It was so much different then. Most teens didn't own that many albums. Albums were expensive if you were a kid living at home with your parents, and no one could download songs from the internet. Most kids watched MTV all day. These songs represent a more peaceful time to me. Ronald Reagan was President, and the Cold War between America and the former Soviet Union was coming to an end. Most of these are love songs. All of them were hits during the 80's. I always assumed that many American singers were influenced by punk rock. Punk-rock bands were popular in Britain. There were a lot of popular British singers during the 1980's. I do wish Phil Collins had been part of this collection. I would trade "Luka" for one of his songs any day of the week. I like all of the songs in this box set except for that one.

  2. This boxed set has all of your favorites from the 80s. I bought it for my sister for Christmas and we listened to it over and over again on New Year's Eve and beyond. Every song brought back a memory from the "old days" and made us smile. What a great way to start the new year!

  3. GREAT CD, a must have if you are into the 80's music.

  4. I luuuuv some of these songs, but some of them suck. hoever, if u like these songs u should totally get it!

  5. I mix 80s dance music and the number of times when mixing that I find myself reaching for either this compilation or its companion, "Hit Me With Your 80s Box," is extraordinary. These are two outstanding collections. They are pricey, but worth every penny. For many people, owning these two will be all the 80s music you'll ever need.

Fidelity is outstanding, the tracks are well organized more or less chronologically, and the sequences in which tracks are placed is excellent. The "box" itself in which the 3 CDs come is sturdy, it is easily folded out in part or in whole to access any of the CDs quickly and easily (unlike many multi-CD offerings). Liner notes are extensive and interesting.

This offering is a class act all the way. Highly, highly recommended. 7 stars.

5 comments about Billboard Top Hits: 1980-1984.

  1. This was a great collection of music from the early 80's and it actually was a compilation of hit songs unlike some other "best of" or "greatest hits" collections that I have purchased previously. Great sound quality as well.

  2. I listened to completely different kinds of music at the time, so I didn't have many memories attached to these songs. The musical quality of the songs is actually suprisingly good, and the mastering has been done well. This is a nice review of hits of the early 1980s. Ten songs per CD isn't much, so there could have been more songs from each year.

  3. This was during Xmas 1984. One lovely girl from Texas brought to Poland (this is where I live) the 10 cassetes pack with "The Best of Billboard - 1984". I still hear this music. Now I can buy a piece of it.

To anyone who was ...teen in 1984: you have to own this one. Don't tell me there is no music you remember from these years. It must be one at least. Remember the first girlfriend. The first kiss maybe? Yes! That's it!.

  4. This set takes me back to the early days of MTV. Pac-Man fever, Atari and great times in my life. As a child of the 80s it was a special time and special music. This box set helps take you back from time to time!

  5. again billboard has done well in putting together a box set of the best songs of this time period. you will appreciate this gathering of the best. every listening minute of this box set is pure elation. not to be passed up.

5 comments about The Singles 1986-1995.

  1. This collection includes all of Duran Duran's singles from 1986-1995. Also includes B-sides and remixes of the original singles, all of which are worth listening to and adding to your ever-growing Duran Duran collection.

I'm not really into the remixes (but I will admit they are pretty good!), I enjoyed mostly the singles and their B-sides. "Burning the Ground" is mix of all their classic hits added in a dance-beat and song title chanted throughout. "Decadance" is similar to "Burning the Ground," only shorter and has a few new twists added in. "Needle & the Damage Done" great soft rock acoustic cover of Neil Young's song, just beautiful. "Yo Bad Azizi" is funky, it's based on the line "you're about as easy as a nuclear war" from their song "Is there something I should know?" "Throb" is 4 minutes of dance-pop goodness. "We Need You" "All Along the Water" "Water Babies" and "I Believe/All I Need To Know" are all great tracks and you'll enjoy them! Finally, "God" and "This is how a road gets made" are spoken tracks on the single for "Do you believe in shame?" So many good songs! Check them out!

Five stars for an awesome collection. Wished we had more B-sides/unreleased tracks and not so many repeats of previous songs. Also, it's missing one B-side that needed to be part of this collection- STOP DEAD!!! You can find it on the "Come Undone" single, but it's not included with this collection.

Hope they release another singles box in the future! Put those "Astronaut" tracks (Salt in the Rainbow, Beautiful Colors,TV vs. Radio, and Pretty Ones) on it, too!

    The "Mad Mind" has spoken.

  2. I was very pleased with this product . The box set is fantastic , lots of singles to listen to and all good .
If you are , like myself a very big Duran Duran fan then this is a must for you .

  3. Duran Duran The Single Collection 86 to 95 is a really good set. The B Sides (We Need You, I Believe All I Need To Know, Decadance, Throb, Yo Bad Azizi, and The Needle And The Damage Is Done) along with the remixes are very interesting. One of the best parts of the collection is Burning The Ground which is made up different melodies and lyrics from different Duran Duran songs throughout the 80s woven together very smoothly. However, the singles for Ordinary World and Come Undone contains reruns. My Antarctica is on the Liberty album, Save A Prayer (single version) and Rio are on the original Rio CD and the rest of the 80s songs are on the Greatest album as well as the first singles collection. Do not know if EMI have any plans for re-releasing the UK Tour Edition Bonus CD from the Wedding album. However, this collection would have been complete if EMI would have included Fallen Angel, Stop Dead, Time For Temptation, Too The Shore (alternate version), and Diamond Dogs. Dispite that, this collection is a great addition for any Duran Duran fan.

  4. Much like the first installment of singles, seeing these remixes and b-sides come out on CD in ANY form was a welcome sign.

There are so many good tracks here like "We Need You," "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" and several excellent live recordings that its hard to overpraise the music contained herein.

The packaging however is tough. All single CDs... I am sure I am not the only one to quickly make a compilation CD of the rare tracks and put the nostaglia sleeves away for safe keeping.

Wish they would have done that for me.....

  5. This is a companion collection to the original singles box 1980-1985. The packaging is similiar in that you get individual discs in original artwork of single sleeves. I finally get the single version of Meet El Presidente. I really enjoyed the B-Sides as well, as most of my singles were vinyl and don't play as well anymore. This is an awesome addition to a Duran Duran fans collection.

5 comments about 80's Retro Hits.

  1. Majority are remixes very different than what was played on the radio or in clubs!1 star only for the original hard to find GO by Tones on Tail

  2. This album is the good starting point for those who consider Rock as just Led Zeppelin and Jim Morrison. True, they were the giants of hard ROCK. Yet leaders like David Bowie and at first U2 (the letter 2 and the numeral U-Casey Kasum:) steered rock into the field of Alternative Avant-Garde. A new and refreshing attack on the 4/4 beat!

Here are sterling examples of the Alternative sound. They were made when Avant-Garde was just a fringe. They were made generally before the bands became "big" and "sold out." They are my favorite genre of rock.

  3. That's exactly what I did on the second hour of my radio show. I featured almost all the songs on this collection, special mixes that I never knew existed, or were out of print long since 12" club mixes were mothballed. Incredible! I had the studio monitor cranked all the way up as I played these great remixes to grateful listeners, turning back the clock to the glorious 80's, if just for a little while. It's a treasure chest, a purchase you will never regret. Anyone who has lived the eighties alternative scene will be awestruck. Where else could you find Icicle Works "Whisper to a Scream" on ANY compilation, anywhere? Forget the so called "edited" versions of these great songs that radio station have played ad-nausium. Buy it.

  4. This CD set is a great buy for all the terrific songs that are on it. So many memories are stirred up listening to the tracks. If you are into hard to find remixes and no longer have vinyl capabilities you cannot go wrong with this set!

  5. While the first 3 volumes were all single discs, this boxed set, for only 15 bux, is like getting volumes 4, 5 AND 6!!! So many 80s 12" mixes on CD at last!!!! Only real downside is one of those horrible re-recorded remixes of Modern English "I Melt With You" from 1990. Track times:

    Disc: 1
    1. She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult (6:56)
    2. I Love You - Yello (7:04)
    3. Go! - Tones on Tail (4:28)
    4. Tower of Strength - The Mission UK (8:41)
    5. Living in Oblivion - Anything Box (5:53)
    6. I Got You - Split Enz (3:30)
    7. Change - Tears for Fears (6:00)
    8. Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly) - Icicle Works (5:17)
    9. Beat Box (Diversion One) - The Art of Noise (8:19)
    10. Bottom Line - Big Audio Dynamite (7:24)
    Disc: 2
    1. Everyday Is Halloween - Ministry (6:22)
    2. P-Machinery - Propaganda (9:22)
    3. First, Last for Everything (Disconet Edit) - Endgames (8:01)
    4. Kiss Me - Stephen Duffy (7:28)
    5. I Go Crazy - Flesh for Lulu (6:33)
    6. Saturdays in Silesia - Rational Youth (7:15)
    7. Lose Him - I Start Counting (7:15)
    8. Love Song - Simple Minds (5:04)
    9. I Melt With You - Modern English (5:30)
    10. Nemesis - Shriekback (5:52)
    Disc: 3
    1. Moments in Love - The Art of Noise (10:17)
    2. Situation - Yaz (5:44)
    3. Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood (7:24)
    4. Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go - Soft Cell (8:57)
    5. If You Leave - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (5:56)
    6. April Fool (April First) - Chalk Circle (5:31)
    7. Cars - Gary Numan (3:46)
    8. Send Me Angel'88 (6:14)

  1. A good sampler of the end of the decade,A lot of populary known song, fromn the orignal artists makes it a must have.

  2. FANTASTIC LISTENING .IT MAKES ME ASK "WHERE DID ALL THE GREAT SONG WRITERS GO?" NOW I DON'T NEED SATTELITE RADIO. YEAH!

  3. this box set reflexs great effort into gathering the best of this time period. fantastic selection of artists giving us fine enjoyment. for those that love flash backs to great songs this is it.

  4. The 70's had a broad array of music... from Soft Hits that we all laugh about now, to Disco hits we all love to dance to. In Between we had some stiffs from Elton John, and songs some artists would probably rather forget about (England Dan and John Ford Coley). This box set is a must have for anyone who likes the whole 70's era!

  5. Another in the saturated "hits" of an era album. One can find a similar offering at the bottom of the discount bins at your CD outlet. Wait a while and this will be found there too.

5 comments about TwentyFive.

  1. There is no doubt about the feeling of George Michael's deep soulfulness. I simply often really do forget how remarkable of an influence he has been in the music industry. His songs have been more about art and heart for over 25 years in the music industry on his own, and as a part of Wham! during his 80's success. Now, he has another greatest hits records to celebrate his highs and lows in music. While there already is a nearly-prefect reflection of his big hits with 1998's Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael, another one was made a few years ago throughout Europe and mainly overseas with 25. A collection that made a big splash worldwide, has finally made its was to American audiences.

The 2008 re-release of Twenty-Five is a compilation that tries to showcase George Michael through his simplistic and soulful voice throught his 3 decades of making deep and somber music. The songs have all been remastered well from his past records and really sound great. The album includes so many of his classics from his big hits from Wham! including Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, the elequent Careless Whishper and his mainstream solo efforts including the #1 smashes Father Figure, the upbeat Faith, and lesser-known songs that blend in well including the overlooked Jesus To A Child and his 2004 comeback single Amazing. The new songs also work like a charm here including his haunting and sultry collaboration with newcomer Muyta on This Is Not Real Love and An Easier Affair.

Unfortunately, This expanded edition though does overlook a lot of George's great tracks, which is the same thing that plagues the simplier, more widespread 2 disc collection. Twenty-Five does overlook a lot of songs that die hard George Michael fans might feel saddened that were omitted including the provocative smash I Want Your Sex, the beats of Monkey, as well as some of his collaboartions including his 1987 duet with Aretha Franklin on I Knew You Were Waiting for Me, as well as other great songs from his Wham! era like I'm Your Man and Where Did Your Heart Go. The expanded edition also brings in lesser-known songs instead that try to appeal more to George's die hard fan base with the extra third disc of songs include some decent songs including Cars And Trains, Please Send Me Someone (Anselmo's Song), and many others. The third disc could've brought in more excitement, but leaves a bit of a whimper to newcomers.

All in all, the expanded version of George Michael's Twenty-Five could've made up for some of the problems that the regular 2-disc collection had overlooked. Nevertheless, it still works as a nice re-introduction to an 80's icon who still remains a great guilty plesure from the heart and simply the voice. That here shouldn't be overlooked from George Michael's style. If you're new though to George Michael's music, you are mainly better off with either downloading buying Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best Of George Michael, or the original double-album edition of Twenty-Five.

    Songs: B-

  2. This has been in my cd player since I got it !! Love It !!!

  3. I love George Michael to death, no matter what personal issues we've heard about in the news lately. Listening to this cd makes me love him more than ever. I was just disappointed in how they put the song "Flawless (Go to the City)". They edited the curse word out & didn't even put the whole song on the cd. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying listening to one of the best out there, ever!!!! In my humble opinion that is.

  4. First off, I love George Michael, so I may be biased. However, my husband is not the seasoned fan that I am, so this 3 disc set is required listening in my car. It gets him reacquainted with George. The few new songs are fantastic and I wish he was played on the radio in the US. He has a powerhouse voice that can do upbeat and slow songs equally well!

  5. ITS A GREAT TO HEAR ALL HIS FAVORITES FROM THE BEGING, HES A GREAT ARTIST

5 comments about Moulin Rouge: Collector's Edition.

  1. Excelent sound track to an excelent movie. cd was in decent condition, a few small scratches here and there but other then that completely satisfactory

  2. This CD wasn't my favortie but, it has some great songs. I have never seen the movie, but listening to the soundtrack definatley made me want to see the movie.

  3. Soundtracks are the next natural step for a fan of a movie, especially a musical. This particular recording is evocative and entertaining. I've been a fan of Baz Luhrmann for ages. He has a big quirky sense of humor but still packs emotion into his work. The movie itself is a fast paced fun romp and the music completely inspired. Some may be thrown by the use of familiar songs in the movie but they all fit beautifully. The soundtrack uses the familiar to set the mood well. Songs are used in quick succession, in tandem and often paired in medleys with new compositions. Enjoyable, mood provoking and nostalgic all at once. All the musical numbers are fun but some took me by surprise. I especially was taken by the tango number using The Police's "Roxanne." The performances are wonderful. I really enjoyed Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman and the rest of the cast. Well done! Heck, it's a great CD to get you moving while doing housework. How many soundtracks can you say this about?

  4. I first bought Moulin Rouge 2 soundtrack because I wanted the songs from the movie w/ the actual singers. But it sucked.... you get Ewan MacGregor singing with some unknown chic, or Nicole Kidman singing a remix with some random guy. Remixes and different people. Uggg. I was looking to buy this CD because the track listing says that Nicole and Ewan actually sing *together* on it for a few songs, but apparently the songs are changed from the way they are in the movie?? This stinks!

  5. Of course I like this soundtrack. I enjoyed the music from the movie.

This isn't a toaster oven so you should know if you like it or not before you purchase it. If your not sure then you may wish to check it out at the library.

5 comments about Siddharta: Spirit of Buddha Bar.

  1. I like both the emotion and passion CDs - play them often and do not get tired of hearing them. Most visitors / clients want to know what I am playing - so it seems to have broad appeal. If you like this CD set, try Versions by Thievery Corporation.

  2. I love this album...Oh, love is such an overused term; don't you think? Anyway, it's great and I recommend it.

  3. Big fan of the Buddha Bar series .. always the best music for all kinds of late night chillout sessions. Love the asian vibe to them .. And if you like that sound, I've recently discovered some more authentic tunes you'll love: Hong Kong's "Celestial". Check them out, they are titled:

    Hong Kong Dub Station
    Happy Valley
    Spirit House

And these album probably take a deeper step into Asia, possibly because they originate from there.

  4. This is an amazing CD that will capture your soul. I have all of the Buddah Bar CD's and this is by far my favorite. If you like really good trance or want to just hear a good mix of music, get this CD.

  5. I would give this 10 stars, if I were able. This book is a classic, and after reading it, you can undestand why Hesse refused the Nobel Prize for Literature. I have loaned and purchased copies of this book since the early 1960s. This latest copy I bought for my oldest grandson. It's a book like The Little Prince, The Rubiyat, This is My Beloved, and some others that I still buy for new friends and family members who do not have a copy. I think it should be in everyone's library. What? You haven't read Siddhartha yet? What's taking you so long?

5 comments about Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles Collection 1972-1992.

  1. After the first flawless Motown box set finished up with 1971, it was inevitable that there was going to be a drop in quality on the second volume. When Stevie Wonder's contribution to disc two is the masterful "Sir Duke" and just one disc later we're hit with the wretched-without-bounds "I Just Called to Say I Love You," it's virtually impossible to wonder where it all went wrong. Closing out the set with the hilariously mawkish "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men is the sadly appropriate death knell for a once proud label that lost its way. It's hard to connect most of this music to the label that once released 'Innervisions' or 'What's Going On' or 'Cloud Nine'.

  2. I have loved the Motown sound ever since I was a little kid. So many of those songs have added pleasure to my life. A few years ago I bought the first box set and voraciously consumed it. Every song there was a classic. I only wished it included a lot more music.

I recently saw that there was a second installment to Hitsville USA. I bought it immediately, and I was encouraged by the generally good reviews here on Amazon. But, wow, I regretfully must report to you that this set does not have the Motown Sound that I know and love. Perhaps a quarter of these songs are very good, but the other three-quarters I do not like at all. They are campy, disco-like atrocities which in my mind are the antithesis of the earthy, passionate, natural sound of real Motown. I do like soul music outside of Motown, but these songs do not come close to even good, authentic soul music. Most of these are bad disco songs which have the second-generation Motown label affixed for prestige. Please don't get this expecting the classic Motown sound, because you won't find it here. Even the small percentage of good songs here don't sound like Motown; I'm not sure exactly how you would categorize them.

The remaining 75% of the music on these discs is of that category of "Music that I Affirmatively Try to Avoid." If Motown was one of the pinnacles of modern music, many of these songs are the valleys. Real Motown was silk; this is a plastic tarp. Again, I emphasize the synthetic, synthesizer-intensive foundation, with the pre-pubescent, screechy, annoying vocals. Motown is all about a thumping, plodding deep bass, with a great guitar groove, and supernaturally beatiful lyrics and voices. Even most of Smokey's stuff here doesn't do much for me, and I love Smokey. The amazing documentary film "In the Shadow of Motown" might have discussed this period in Motown's history, if it did, I'm sure it is characterized as the (steep, almost vertical) decline. The folks who were the subject matter of that film were REAL MUSICIANS, the best musicians the world has ever known; they weren't a bunch of beeping, buzzing computers and polyester-wearing prancing disco-dancers.

I will never listen to these discs straight-through again. I'll just skip over to the few good tracks. The preponderance of these songs were downright painful, they represent the worst of the 70's and 80's. I wish they had merely augmented the collection of real Motown, rather than used the songs which rode on the coat-tails of the real (and legendary) Motown.

  3. In the past years I have ordered from individuals via Amazon as opposed to Amazon.com directly. This time, this particular item was offered through Amazon at basically the same cost and I received the item faster than I ever had before. From now on if Amazon offers any item I wish to purchase, I'll order it through Amazon directly.

  4. Not quite as strong as the first Motown boxed set but then again I'm partial to the earlier songs during the illustrious Motown of the '60s. 4.5 stars.

  5. ALL I CAN SAY IS IF YOU LIKE THE MOTOWN SOUND THEN YOU WOULD LIKE THIS CD. I LIKE IT AND ENJOY IT AND I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO LIKES THE MOTOWN SOUND OF YESTERYEAR TO BUY THIS ALBUM BECAUSE YOU WOULD DEFINITELY ENJOY IT.
