1 comments about On-U Sound Box.

  1. Producer, Director, & Dub-meister Adrian Sherwood created the British answer to Lee Perry & Scientist.... The ON-U Sound. This label, always precocious, (a 1981 album states: "Another 1991 On-U Sound Production", wins hands-down on being the sound of '90's reggae, except that it all came out in the '80's. ON-U Sound has never failed at presenting the true future of what reggae will develop into. This 3-CD Box set sets the foundation of what ~was~ & now ~is~ in reggae. History & imagination are woven together with incredible dub effects and sequences. This release encapsulates many stages of the development of ON-U Sound & serves as a map, a pocket encyclopedia, of this unique reggae label.

4 comments about The Official American Bandstand Library of Rock & Roll.

  1. American Bandstand has got to be the best music show ever. I had the chance to talk to a dancer who was in her teens at the time. She sais her favorite year was 1964 which is mine.
I'm a little disappointed about the fact there is very few 70's. Also I'm disappointed about "I Get Around" being there insted of "Don't Worry Baby." Thats why I gave it 4 stars.
I love Bandstand and I love this cd. I just think it should have more.

  2. "American Bandstand" was certainly a forerunner to the modern day music video-It enabled us to see our favorite performers up close & personal-Dick Clark brought us all the big names:Buddy Holly,Jerry Lee Lewis,Stevie Wonder,The Beach Boys,Jefferson Airplane,Creedence Clearwater Revival,The Jackson Five,Prince,& even Madonna-This set gives you most of the big hits from the 50's to the 80's-With the exception of "The Twist","Worst That Could Happen" & "White Rabbit",all the songs in this collection are the original versions as you remember hearing them on the radio-A definite must purchase for any oldies fan.

  3. The set from Q Records is wonderful - there are gems from every decade to be found on each CD, and the whole set is a great example of the growth of rock n'roll from the 50s to the 80s. You should buy this set!!!!

  4. This is a great sampling of four decades of pop/rock music! It's interesting to listen to all eight CDs chronologically and hear the subtle changes in music from the 1950s to 1980s. For anyone who watched the television program, "American Bandstand," and for those who are too young to remember it, this is an entertaining trip through time from Buddy Holly to the Pointer Sisters.

1 comments about Royal Box.

  1. First of all this is a one cd one vhs box set not a two cd box set. The Royal Box is the best of Madonna from 1984 to 1991. The cd has fifteen of her greatest hits and two brand new songs. The cd is called the Immaculate Collection, which can be bought in stores. The vhs is also called the Immaculate Collection, which is currently out of print. The vhs has twelve of Madonna's top videos from the 80's and early 90's as well as a bonus video version of Vogue live from the MTV music video awards. The Royal Box also contains a poster and rare collectible postcards that are exclusive to the box set only. The cd also comes in a bonus special case that opens like a book. The Royal Box is out of print and very hard to find, but if you are a music collector or a big fan of Madonna this is worth it.

  1. This music is great for anyone who loves something different. It draws you in and takes you to another place. I highly recommend it!

  2. I bought this three cd set for 8.99 at virgin for a promotion and I still fee ripped off. If you want good music like cd1, at the bar, get the disco kandi and disco heaven cds put our by hed kandi. they are vastly superior.

If you want music like cd2, at the club, get the global underground series. They are good for that.

and if you want chill out like in cd3, then get the hed kandi served chilled or the cafe del mar series or the back to mine series.

This has a lot of repeats of what is on the other series and the versions of the songs are not as good. It sounds brassy and overall, sounds cheaper. Big thumbs down.

  3. I picked this up recently in the UK (1/3 the import price)and have not been able to stop listening to it. I have to agree with the one reviewer below that this is not typical of what you would expect from renaissance because it is much more of a commercial sound than what they have put out before but, it is really a awesome compilation. I love the "At the Bar" Cd but really all three have their own merit. If you are new to house and trance or a long time fan you must have this CD. Its just out and out fun!!!! BUY IT NOW!!!

  4. My context is music to work by (computer programming) and I do best with lively, moody, but not too dance-heavy techno. Disc 1 of this group, "At The Bar" is one of the very best I have ever heard, period. I'd love to know what reviewer Shen thinks is superior to this.

  5. I can't believe the 1st reviewer had such a poor opinion of this CD. I have many dance/techno/mix CDs and this one is one of the best. High quality deep house/euro sound, and each CD has a different "mood". I highly recommend this to anyone! The "at the club" CD has a great mellow pounding beat that really gets you into the groove.

  1. This is such a good package-filled with anything a long time fan would need. With them touring last summer(which I hope they release on DVD)I am hoping that a new CD with all new material is released.

    Lets pray on it!!!!

  2. Love the DVD that came with the set. You find out a lot of history tidbits. Also the single and b sides are cool. I was a fan before--more now!

  3. You've probably already heard the music, but, here it is in remastered sound, 5.1 surround sound and includes remixes and b-sides. The packaging is great and the interviews are revealing. I was always under the impression that Yaz ended for other reasons. It is nice to hear how age and a different perspective can bring two very different people back together. Who knows what the future holds for Yaz? If anyone could record and write for two different bands it would be Vince Clarke. Many of the remixes on the discs I heard for the first time after this purchase and they are all great. The only song missing here is "Tuesday", which is on their greatest hits disc, but not on either of the studio albums.

  4. I'm a big fan of Yaz but was this release really worth it? The two albums in remastered format have been out for a few years. The "remixes" CD wasn't anything to write home about, especially when compared to the remix EPs released in the UK which were significantly better. Then there is the DVD. That might be worth something but personally I watch those maybe once or twice. Overall I think this is a steep price to pay for what you actually get.

  5. I am thrilled to have this set! I'm not too upset about some of the missing remixes as some. My only complaint is that State Farm and Situation were not remixed in 5.1. I love the 5.1 remixes they add a fun complexity to the songs with much better dynamic range and sound field image. If you're a completest don't bother buying the U.K. edition. For all the extra money all you get is a "oo" at the end of Yaz. They are otherwise identical.

2 comments about Mega 80's, Vol. 2.

  1. Researching this title has uncovered he song that goes "Whatsa Matta You, Gotta no respect?" By a guy named Joe Dolce.

Popular in the early '80s I haven't heard this crazy song in more than twenty years.

  2. Good Lord, this is 80's to the max, but on a global scale. This collection has not only many of the american top hits, but also includes the international hits as well. My fave's include tose funky cheeky hits like " Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "One Night in Bangkok" and "Boogie Oogie Oogie". There's even a few live tracks to spruce things up, like Alan Parson's "Eye In The Sky" and David Bowie's "China Girl". Personally, I'm not that familiar with many of the europen hits, but if you are in need of an international 80's fix, you can't get a better collection than this.

2 comments about Eighties Complete, Vol. 2.

  1. with a great mix of 80s hits, many US hits plus some that were only hits in Australia, this boxed set is a nice way to start your 80s collection. But for collectors who are trying to replace their old vinyl 12" singles on CD, there are two unexpected treats here. You get the full 6 minute Steve Thompson 12" verison of "Too Late for Goodbyes" by Julian Lennon AND the 5 minute and 35 second 12" version of "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters! Totally awesome!

  2. Some really great songs but some one hit wonders that make you wonder why they were even wonders.
