1. Ray stevens is one of the funniest guys when it comes to musical comedy. This CD collection is a good collection of his work. It would be a great collection but for the fact not all of his songs are on it.



2. I purchased this cd because of the number of great Ray Stevens Songs that I had listened to growing up. When I got the discs, I opened it up only to find that these were not the original recordings. They were more recent recordings, some without the same lyrics. The most disappointing were two of my all time favorites; "The Haircut Song" and "Ballad of the Blue Cyclone." If you are a Ray Stevens fan, don't bother with the box set. I recommend buying the original albums for original, classic Ray Stevens.



3. This was just to cool. All the old stuff reminds you what a genius of funny he is. If you are a fan buy it and enjoy!



4. Warning, warning, Danger, danger!!! If you are looking for the ORIGINAL hit versions of his songs like, "Ahab the Arab", "The Streak", "Gitarzan" then you should stay away from this compilation. So far the BEST Ray Stevens set is Rhino's "The Very Best of Ray Stevens".
   All of those selections are the real deal.
   
   Here's hoping that one day there will be a true box set compilation of Ray's career, especially his early Mercury recordings. My top wish: a song from 1964: "The Old English Surfer".



5. I had been looking for a lot of his music and hadn't found one that had very many of my faviorites on it, until now! You either like Ray Stevens or you don't and I happen to be one who thoroughly enjoys his comedy! There are a few songs missing from his collection, but over all, it's a pretty great collection!

1. Discussed by phone a problem with trying to order this product from Hastings, which was entirely dissatisfactory.
   My only suggestsion is that you make your toll free number more accessible.
   
   The item turned out to be on sale,so I got it for much less expensive than I would have. It was a replacement, since I lost my original copy bought in 2004, and I treasure it for sentimental reasons besides loving the music, so I was very impressed with ordering it, and did so immediately after talking with your agent. He even credited my account $5.00 for my experience with Hastings, and said he took notes.
   
   Ultimately Hastings did credit my return of their sending me the wrong product, I have to say, in a timely matter, so that helped.



2. I was unable to assess this product because the disks were faulty. I could not play Disk #6 on any CD palyer and the others would not play fully on my car player.



3. This is a wonderful collection of artists and music assembled in one set that can not be duplicated.
   
   For those of you who love classic country and bluegrass this is just excellent music, great selections and a one of a kind boxed set.



4. I have always loved the Circle CD's but this trilogy set is totally awesome with the combination of the original players and Nitty's version all in 1 box, can't be beat.

1. This is a moving and wonderful collection of songs, the last work of such a fine talent. I've played this umpteen times and it's worth every penny. Sensational recordings, and if you liked the American sessions with Rick Rubin, you'll love this.
   
   Fantastic. Worth buying just to hear "The L&M Don't Stop Here Anymore."



2. One thing you need to do is buy this box-set and the next thing you need to do is listen to it and be absolutely astound with the lyrics and just how great this collection this is. You will NOT be disappointed. I guarantee it!



3. i personally believe that you should have everything that johnny cash recorded with rick rubin. together they made stunning americana music that is a pinnacle of the genre. this box set is very, very wonderful. i would suggest that you first get the 5 individual volumes of mr cash's "american recordings," then pick this up as icing on the cake. the only reason that i don't think this to be quite 5 star worthy is that disc 4 is an all gospel set titled "my mother's hymn book," which, while still a very good listen, is not quite up to par with the other cash/rubin work. also, disc 5 is simply a collection of tracks from the previous american recordings releases and is completely pointless here, as all true cash fans will already have these. anyway, the voice of mr cash is an amazing instrument to hear, truly spine-tingling on many of the songs collected here, and i highly, highly recommend that you pick this massive gathering of performances up.

   I assume, if you're reading these reviews, you're familiar with Cash's albums on the American label and are interested in hearing more. If that's the case, definitely buy this set - it is very much worth the money. Other than the final "best of American" CD (which seems pointless, as others have mentioned), every CD in this set is simply outstanding. This is not a box set of rejects and b-sides, but a collection of songs that could have been award-winners on their own. It really is hard to believe some of these songs didn't make the cut when they put the original American albums together. It's even hard to recognize some of the covers, because they all sound like Cash originals. His passion, distinctiveness, and talent are evident on just about every song.
   
   Beyond the beauty of Cash as an artist, these discs stand out because of the incredible sound. They are very clean, clear, and pure-sounding.
   
   For any fan of Cash - long time listener or newcomer - this is a set well worth the price. It contains a little bit of something reminiscent of every stage of his career. Simply great.

1. I bought this collection for my husband for his birthday. And he loved it. Conway is one of his favorite singers. If you buy this collection you will not regret it.

4. I was more than happy when I played this CD set of Conway. Most of all his songs are there...some of the hard to find ones!!
   I wasn't impressed when Conway sang rock....but since I hadn't ever heard him it was a thrill to listen to Conway make his move to country.
   From then on there was NO ONE like Conway. I miss him but this set really keeps me company.

1. To understand Merle Haggard, you must understand these facts:
   1. Saving, perhaps, for one Arthur Fonzerelli, there has never been anyone as cool as Merle Haggard.
   2. Merle Haggard meant every word he ever sang, even if he only meant it while he was singing it.
   3. Since Merle Haggard, virtually every Honky-Tonk singer has tried to sound like Merle Haggard, and virtually every one of them has failed miserably.
   In this collection you get 100 Haggard songs, and every one of 'em packs a mighty wallop.



2. Item was purchased as a gift. It was received in a very timely manner. Recipient was very pleased and has reported no problems with the CD set.



3. I've got a lot of Hag around the house, but you don't want to hear about my wife--let's talk music instead.
   
   Seriously though Hag fans, it's hard to go wrong with this set despite it being plenty pricey. It's a very good cross section of his finest years and disc two especially is great stuff.
   
   To me Merle Haggard music should be a seperate genre. It's almost not fair to compare him to other country artists because no matter how you slice it, he is so unbelievably good. That voice, at once clear, effortless and moving. And what a prolific song writer as well, Hag was cranking out classics faster than others could have put a bunch of garbage on vinyl.
   
   His songs just hit home with you and are a great source of Americana. There will never be another one like him and yet you hardly ever hear a Hag tune on the radio these days, which is kind of like taking George Washington off of the dollar bill.
   
   I love Hag's stuff, and my wife too by the way. You'll like this one also. I highly recommend it.



4. When you think of traditional country music, few names command the respect Merle Haggard does. There are perhaps dozens of Merle compilations, but I find "Down Every Road" is arguably the best showcase of his versatile career.
   
   It's amazing to see how far Haggard's career progressed from the early 60's to now; this collection covers the vast majority of his hits through 1994 or so, with a few minor exceptions ("Movin' On" isn't included, for example). It's all here. All the stories that make country music great: drinkin', trains, love gained, love lost, good-boy-gone wrong, etc. The thing is, Merle's lived most of this. The listener can almost feel the pain in his voice in a lot of this material, and it's completely believable. I guess that's why I like him so much, and one of the reasons he's been so well received over the course of his lengthy career. He's a road warrior, a survivor. I would recommend this collection to any real country music fan, but it's priceless for true Hag fans. Worth every penny.



5. I cant believe I wasted my money on this box. It does a a lousy job of covering anything other then his Capitol years (doesnt surprise me being a Capitol box set) and I dont believe it even does a good job of that. Its a good thing its out of print and I wouldnt recommend anyone wasting their time trying to find a copy.

1. For anyone who wants a "catch-up" compilation of the Statler Bros. recordings, I would highly recommend this edition of their songs.



2. I have all the Statler Brothers cd's and I bought this one for a friend, it has all the songs on it and is very pleased with the gift.

1. This CD set is awesome! All of Hanks best songs in one package. Hank Williams Jr. is one of the best Country musicians of all time and anyone that likes his music will not be disappointed with this CD set. Highly recommended to all Hank Jr. fans and anyone else that just wants to hear Hank's best songs. There is no better beer drinking music than Hank Williams Jr. Party On Hank!



2. a hank hits without "the conversation"? are y'all sniffin gaspipes?! my god.. some idiot didn't pay-out and done ruined this here. i was gonna buy it too. well, godbless anyway.



3. The description "complete" on box sets gets more ridiculous all the time. Only 45 songs from a guy who had 9 of the top 40 albums on the Billboard country chart at the same time?! Those 90 songs would barely be the beginning of a real Complete Hank Jr. Better off getting the bargain price CD reissues of the original albums than a bogus set like this.



4. a fine retrospective of hank williams work and in our case a great price.
   all our favorites were there and she who must be obeyed was very happy with the cd.

1. Look up. Does it say "in stock"? It does? Buy it! The hell with the damn money - life's short, and this jewel from Dust To Digital is worth every cent. Goodbye, Babylon is a rich, deep vein of mixed ore - plenty of utilitarian coal, a good leavening of gold, and a double handful of diamonds. For starters, the box set itself is a beautiful object, made with respect and love. For musical trainspotters, there's plenty here to enjoy and mull over - by far the larger proportion not found on any of my other compilations. And for people like me, who are trawling for that elusive and rare combination of passion and melody, humanity and heartbreak, yearning and joy - it can be found here. I distilled the six CDs down to a compilation that I listen to as I would any good music, and as frequently - it's a great Sunday morning CD and, if you live in the suburbs like I don't, it'll freak the neighbours. Oh, unless you live in the southern states of the US, of course. Ahem. Anyway, sift through and you'll find beautiful songs that will lift your spirits, old weird America stuff that'll make you smile and sing along, and a wealth of really interesting music that draws from many traditions. This one is special, and worth it. Enjoy.



2. This a very valuable collection of gospel music. Be aware that is all gospel. Is is nearly all old time gospel, and it gives us a rich history of the passion that goes into this form of music. If you are a lover of folk music you should own this set.The performers are now saved for all time! The one drawback is the insanley stupid packaging-a wooden box that does not work! I threw mine away. What were they thinking??



3. Having read the enthusiastic reviews here and in the the New York Times, I couldn't wait for this boxed set to arrive. Unfortunately, when it did arrive I sure wished I could get a refund.
   
   No doubt this material is of interest to scholars. But anyone just looking for something enjoyable to listen to is in for a disappointment.
   
   I have listened to plenty of old recordings but the sound quality on this is by far the worst I have ever heard, bar none. You really can't enjoy the music. The quality is so poor that one track of a particular genre doesn't register as any different from another. Listening to it is just plain painful.
   
   So if you are a music library you might want to spend your money on this.
   But, if you are just a gospel fan, you may want to spend your money on the many other fine gospel recordings out there.



4. This is one of the most wide-ranging and wonderful collections of early roots music I've found. The performances range from gospel quartets and choirs through blues and jug bands, pulling together influences from gospel, bluegrass and country, jazz, and blues. And then there's an entire disc of sermons, with such gems (no pun intended) as "Black Diamond Express to Hell". Great stuff, and a wonderfully eclectic collection of early roots music, gospel or not.
   
   The sound quality is very good, especially given the age of many of the sources.
   
   There's not a ton of historical/biographical info in the 200+ page book, but the inclusion of all the lyrics of every song is a huge win. The packaging is as cool as it looks, but isn't terribly practical for day-to-day use. That wasn't a problem for me, as I ripped all six CDs and have primarily played them off my computers, but could be a nuisance for some.



5. This set includes 5 music CD's plus 1 preaching CD. All six are good ones and each individual CD is put together according to a single theme; salvation, judgement, etc. I listen to this over and over again and I never tire of it. Maybe this is a bit pricy, but still it's worth every cent.

2. Although ten years old, this collection will give all the best of Strait's career from the beginning to the nineties. I am a new fan, so it was a good way for me to "catch up." His new album has already gone to number one so he still has it..



3. If you love all of George Strait's old and new songs then you will definately enjoy this set. You get a mix of everything and all of the songs are awesome!!



4. If you like Hank Jr. and Sr., Dwight Yoakam, etc you will love this collection. George Strait is one of the most diverse, talented and soulful of our contemporary country singers. This is a superb and well-rounded look at this wonderful artist. This collection and his CD Honkytonkin are my all-time George Strait favorites. Additionally, this box set is a a real bargain.
