5 comments about Sings 22 Favorite Hymns.
- These are the traditional hymns I grew up with and Mr. Ford sings them beautifully. Listening to them gives me time to pause in my life for private worship and praise to God through song.
- Some of the best old sacred songs in the beautiful voice of Tennessee Ernie Ford!
- My mother was dying in a hospice. We needed some music to play for her while she was there. Two of her favorite hymns were on the one cd. It was hard to find that. Amazon came through with the selection, and overnited it to me. My mother passed 2 days later. I'll always be grateful for that cd.
- Tennessee Ernie Ford was a very popular singer when I was a child and my parents and siblings loved to watch his TV show. He would always end the show with a hymn and I wanted to revisit those songs and the happy days of my youth. The Hymns and Ernie are as good as ever.
- I bought this CD specifically for the song "My Faith Looks Up To Thee" which is hard to find on a CD. This hymn was written in 1830 by Ray Palmer (lyrics) and put to music later by Lowell Mason, a man Palmer met on the streets of Boston. Mason took home the lyric, wrote a melody, and a few days later found Palmer and told him no matter what Palmer did for the rest of his life, he would be remembered for the hymn.
Another gem here is "Just As I Am Without One Plea." This is the amazing story of Charlotte Elliot. This bedridden, sick woman was feeling sorry she could not help her pastor with his fundraising for charity as she was simply too sick. After writing this hymn in 1835, she was shocked to find copies of it being sold by the thousands. The proceeds were given to the very charity Charlotte thought she could not help. After she died in 1871, others found stacks of letters sent to her from all over the world, thanking her for changing their lives and bringing them to Christ.
These are not the only two historical hymns in collection.
This is not just a CD of the great hymns of our time. This CD is a living history of hymns going far back in time.
It is a treasure.
I am thankful I got a chance to see Tennessee Ernie Ford when he appeared on TV during his glory years.

- Dolly did a great job with her GOLDEN STREETS OF GLORY album. This is of course an altered version of that LP, with some songs missing but it's still good. These are some of the greatest inspirational songs out there! Great music @ a Great price!
- "I Believe" is in essence a re-release of Dolly Parton's 1971 masterpiece gospel album "The Golden Streets of Glory that went to # 22 on the charts. This marks the second time "The Golden Streets of Glory" has surfaced in CD format, with the original coming out in 1993. The album has become Dolly's rarest album with the original vinyl going for a lot of money. It actually took me over 20 years to get a copy of the original LP and it's wonderful that these recordings are on CD. Dolly does a great rendition of Bob Ferguson's "Wings of A Dove" and the gem here is the Dolly written "The Master's Hand" and the title track. Ferguson also produced the album along with Porter Wagoner who receives no label credit as was the custom for Dolly's albums in the early "70's. No singles were released from the album, but a song called "Coming For To Carry Me Home" was a Dolly minor hit, but at the last minute was dropped from the full length album, but nobody seems to know why. The CD features 10 tracks and the cover is beautiful with Dolly wearing whats known to her fans as her "Lynn Anderson Hair". The original Dolly album also had a painting of a golden street featured to the left of the LP, but unfortunately it is not on the CD release. Dolly also has 2 other gospel CD's available although they are no where near as great as this; "Precious Memories" from 1999 and "For God and Country" from 2003.
- This is one of Dolly Parton's older albums, but it's one of my favorites. I love her gospel sound. Pure Dolly! Would advise anyone, who loves gospel with a sweet country sound,to buy it.
- This is a re-issue of Dolly's gospel album, Golden streets of glory, with the tracks re-sequenced and different (inferior) artwork. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the cassette version only features eight tracks but I cannot confirm this.
Dolly has recorded a fair number of gospel songs or songs that could be interpreted as gospel songs, but this 1970 album was the first (and for a long time, only) full gospel album that she did. Dolly eventually recorded a second gospel album, Precious memories, but this was never put on general sale so is not easy to get, especially for those of us who do not live in America. This album, like all of Dolly's early albums, was recorded in a simple, traditional country style. Seven of the songs here are originals written by Dolly or members of her family. Of these, I particularly like The master's hand (since covered by the New Coon Creek Girls) and the title track but all the original songs are wonderful. Three famous gospel songs are also included, these being I believe (the most successful gospel song in British chart history, though sadly not because of Dolly's version), How great thou art and Wings of a dove. This album was a rarity on vinyl so it was particularly good to see it made available on CD.
- It's funny...the previous reviewer states how this album was originally issued on vinyl as "Golden Streets of Glory". Well the cd that I have is called "Golden Streets of Glory" and it does feature Dolly gazing out of the window with a big hairdo. Plus it has also been remastered which is nice. The songs are in a slightly different order to those listed here, but otherwise are exactly the same. I am not an overly religious person, but to listen to this album you do not need to be. They are uplifting songs that are bound to make you feel good. Highly recommended no matter what your religion. Your soul will thank you.

5 comments about The Music of Christmas.
- I like the Music of Christmas by Steven Curtis Chapman. Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith are two of my favorite Christian artists. I want to thank the seller of this product for making it available and amazon.com for having their website.
- It's been said before that Amy Grant's A Christmas Album (1983) is the Nat King Cole of contemporary Christian Christmas albums -- the one that you always bring out year after year. I think that was true a decade and more ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stephen Curtis Chapman's The Music of Christmas (1995) has taken over that spot now. The Music of Christmas is just as inviting, inspiring, contemporary, and well-produced as Grant's album -- and some might say more so.
This is no small feat given the fact that Christmas albums (like, in prior decades, live albums) seemingly are career requirements for successful contemporary Christian artists. Chapman started work on this project in 1993, just after completing his Great Adventure tour supporting the album of the same name that catapulted him into stardom. He abandoned work on it, however, in favor of releasing a live album that fall. He then came back to this album two years later, after the even bigger success of Heaven in the Real World.
And the singer on this album sounds like the Steven Curtis Chapman of the Heaven in the Real World period. Oh, you'll only find only one purely pop song here ("This Baby"); this is a Christmas album, after all. But this album is still the work of the Steven Curtis Chapman who had not yet been stretched vocally, lyrically, musically, and just plain all-around artistically, on the Brown Bannister contemporary Christian music production rack. (The beneficial results of that stretching would be seen on Chapman's next pop album, Signs of Life.)
Nonetheless, Bannister is here as co-producer on The Music of Christmas, his very first venture with Chapman. As he proved on Grant's classic, Bannister knows how to create a Christmas album that is both contemporary and traditional at the same time -- and how to make it lush, warm, and inviting. Partly this effect is achieved through photographs of cabins, snowy Tennessee mountains, and Chapman and his wife Mary Beth enjoying the winter rustic setting. The message is clear: come and join our family in the celebration of Christmas.
The album itself begins with Chapman alone on guitar singing "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." But just in case you'd forget that this is a contemporary Christian album, we only get the first verse and chorus before a nice musical segue leads us into the title track. With singing children, a large choir, beautiful orchestrations, and an incredibly catchy chorus, it's no wonder that this song was successful on contemporary Christian radio.
From there, the album continues with a mixture of contemporary and traditional offerings. The old carols sport new arrangements that nevertheless mostly maintain a traditional feel. (The one exception here is a very modern arrangement of "Angels We Have Heard on High" with backing vocals from pop/rock band Chicago's Bill Champlin. Champlin also guested on Grant's first Christmas album and other Grant/Bannister pop collaborations.) The contemporary songs are pop in nature, but most of them honor the spirit of the season with some sense of reverence, awe, and even solemnity. There's even one instrumental medley of Christmas hymns that serves as an interlude. (Did Chapman and Bannister design the album with Christmas concert performances in mind?)
There are also an amazing number of potential singles on the album. Beyond the title track, "Christmas Is All in the Heart" (a duet with guest vocalist CeCe Winans), "Our God Is With Us" (co-written with Michael W. Smith), and "This Baby" are all Christmas single material. These songs easily could have provided Chapman with a year's worth of contemporary Christian music chart toppers. "Our God Is With Us" is particularly impressive, with Chapman surveying salvation history and Christ's incarnation for signs of hope.
The album does decrease in quality just a tad with its last two tracks. "Going Home for Christmas" tells the tale of a (fictional?) grandmother who died during one Christmas season. It's honest and emotional, but a little sappy and too pop country. (Chapman would tell a much more harrowing, and far better, story of a relative's departure on his next album's "What I Would Say.") "Precious Promise" concludes the album with a final telling of the Christmas story. It's not bad; unfortunately, neither is it memorable, since it sounds too much like a typical Chapman closing ballad.
These minor flaws aside, The Miracle of Christmas truly is an excellent album. You probably will not get any better than this among Christmas albums from popular contemporary Christian artists.
- Steven Curtis Chapman proves why he is one of Christian music's most loved artists! My favorites on this CD are "Christmas is all in the Heart," "This Baby," and "O Come All Ye Faithful."
Chapman brings a heartfelt quality to classic songs I have listened to for years, and really keeps the focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Definitely a must buy!
- Well produced, but not the style of Christmas music I was looking foor
- Steven Curtis Chapman's first Christmas album, "The Music of Christmas," is an instant classic. Chapman, who is the master of Contemporary Christian music, created a masterful recording full of joy and peace that are an instant part of the Christmas season. Each song has the power and emotion that one comes to expect from a SCC recording, which makes this a CD that belongs in every collection of great Christmas music.
Grade: A+

- Fantastic native american music that is both beautifully written and sung. Some of the songs are in English and some in Cherokee. I would definitely recommend this CD.
- Walela: Beautiful, Serene, Peaceful. Everything to relieve you of the stress and anxieties of living in this fast paced rushed World. The soft sweet voices of these beautiful Indian Princesses will calm and soothe you into the sweetest dreams. You wont need Yoga if you have this in your collection. Highly Recommended.
- "Walela" is absolutely THE most healing sound I have ever heard. Takes you on an inner journey and makes you feel connected with all of creation since the beginning of time. Then, it gives your heart wings and lets your spirit soar high above the earth. Highly recommended for everyone searching for inner peace, healing and oneness.
- This CD will put you in the Valleys and Mountains of time. Easy & Powerful - Thanks Walela
- This is one gorgeous album. If you've not been introduced to Walela, this is the one to try first. Cherokee River is my favorite. It's haunting, heavenly, and the harmony is outstanding.

- I am very disappointed in this Alabama CD. It is not the Alabama quality or sound that they are known so well for. There is no heart in this CD. Randy Owens sounds like he couldn't care less. He said that it took 3 months to make this CD. Maybe he shouldn't have rushed!
- I love this CD. Every song is beautiful and I have listened over and over.
- This is a great CD. My father just passed away and we played some of the music at his funeral.
- The group Alabama ha always been a favorite of mine. However, this CD
is not their best work. I was disappointd in it and expected much more than I heard. I think this is just not their genra.
- This product is excellent if you appreciate gospel. Very moving. Product arrived quickly and was easy to track.

5 comments about The Troublemaker.
- I don't even like gospel music and this is a good album, Willie Nelson is a real innovator, he can make something out of nothing. Aha but anyway, it's a great album that sounds really personal to Willie.
- I'm bought the Troublemaker on vinyl (or maybe it was cassette, I can't remember) way back in the day. I enjoyed it, and then kind of forgot about it. Until a couple of years ago, when I found this remastered CD with extra tracks.
This is vintage Willie Nelson, and that's a good thing. His sister Bobbie played piano. Doug Sahm, Larry Gatlin and others sang along.
My personal favorite track here is Uncloudy Day, but it's also fun to crank up those really rocking-out live tracks and share in the fun.
The Troublemaker stands the test of time, and it's good to see reviews from younger Willie fans who are also enjoying this piece of gold from the past.
- If you like Willie Nelson and Gospel Music, this album is a MUST HAVE! It's a perfect CD with Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and Jimmy Day to name a few performing. What a group! Get the album.
- As a new fan of Willie Nelson, I was surprised to come across this album and its great reviews on Amazon. I had no idea it even existed. Most of Willie's older material, and even his new recordings, tends to get buried under the avalanche of the more polished, commercial pop that passes for country these days.
On Troublemaker, Nelson performs the classic gospel tunes with energy and obvious enjoyment, which makes for a very fun listening experience. Also, the sound is very well done; it's much cleaner than I expected. If you like good old fashioned country and/or gospel, your money would be well spent on Troublemaker.
- This is my favorite Willie Nelson album of all time. The album went to number 1 on the country charts in 1976 and went "Gold." The performances of Gospel classics are great, ranging from footstompin' to moving and peaceful. "Uncloudy Day" was a big hit and is included on several of his greatest hits compilations, but all the songs on here are very good. Highly recommended for any Willie Nelson fan or fan of Gospel.

- If you are an Oak Ridge Boys fan, you will love this album. Contains most of their All Time Classics!
- Let me qualify my review by stating that I believe that the Oak Ridge Boys are one of the finest vocal groups in the history of country music.
This collection primarily focuses on the period of time in which they were generating hit after hit. If you were to only buy one Oak Ridge Boys record, this is probably the best retrospective out there - all of their most significant tunes are here. I do wish it had a little more of their gospel-era tunes, as they are wonderful as well, but after all, this is not a box set!
- This is it, if you want all the hits by the Oak Ridge Boys.
It includes every track from their Greatest Hits & Greatest Hits Vol.2,
plus many more. Excellent sound and liner notes.
- This was a remarkable combination of albums. All my favorite Oak Ridge Boys songs were on this, such as Elvira, Dream On, Thank God for Kids, I Guess it Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes, and Sail Away. Whether you are a long time ORB fan or new to their music, this album is a must. You will love it.
- This group is amazing! Their voices are as strong and gripping as they ever were. I bought this CD at a recent concert and I love it! Beautiful selections, a lot of fun to listen to!

- When this arrived it propmtly got on our Sunday playlist, and stayed there form many months.
If "Were You There When They Crucified my Lord" doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you may be dead.
- Since I like gospel music, this is one of the better ones of all the classics that never go out of style.
- BUYER BEWARE--Based on the sound of the recording, the 1990 issue date, and the total lack of any mention of remastering on the packaging, it's clear that this is NOT a remastered recording. Still, the music is great (it gets 5 stars) and at $7 the price is right even for a old CD with primitive mastering. But I am pretty annoyed at Amazon for the false advertising, hence the low rating for this product.
- GOSPEL GLORY by Johnny Cash is a GREAT Gospel CD, despite its lack of modern remastering. This used to be my FAVORITE Johnny Cash Gospel CD until I got his JUST AS I AM (1999) album on CD, and I found out that 9 of the 10 songs on GOSPEL GLORY are on JUST AS I AM, plus 11 other Gospel tunes from Johnny. Just as I Am
Although, "Daddy Sang Bass" is the only true Johnny Cash chart hit song on this CD, GOSPEL GLORY also has many all-time classic Christian songs, which are all great as Johnny Cash renditions, too!
GOSPEL GLORY is a career compilation of Gospel tunes. GOD is an equally good collection of Johnny Cash tunes, but it does not have has many classic, traditional Gospel songs as GOSPEL GLORY. God
MY MOTHER'S HYMN BOOK is Johnny's best Gospel album that was recorded and intended to originally appear on a single CD, all at once. MY MOTHER'S HYMN BOOK is just Johnny strumming his acoustic guitar, while singing tunes he's sang since childhood when he learned them from his mom, singing them out of her Hymn book, just like the album title says! It has a good CD booklet with Johnny talking about each song, too. My Mother's Hymn Book
And don't miss the incredibly cool spoken word project of Johnny Cash reading the entire NEW TESTAMENT of the Bible, over 16 CDs, very affordably priced! Johnny Cash Reads the Complete New Testament: Collector's Edition
- Though I knew this was a gospel CD, it was not up to his other recodings.
