  1. Shipping was fast and CD is packed with songs. Good item for the money.

  2. If you are an Oak Ridge Boys fan, you will love this album. Contains most of their All Time Classics!

  3. Let me qualify my review by stating that I believe that the Oak Ridge Boys are one of the finest vocal groups in the history of country music.

This collection primarily focuses on the period of time in which they were generating hit after hit. If you were to only buy one Oak Ridge Boys record, this is probably the best retrospective out there - all of their most significant tunes are here. I do wish it had a little more of their gospel-era tunes, as they are wonderful as well, but after all, this is not a box set!

  4. This is it, if you want all the hits by the Oak Ridge Boys.
It includes every track from their Greatest Hits & Greatest Hits Vol.2,
plus many more. Excellent sound and liner notes.

  5. This was a remarkable combination of albums. All my favorite Oak Ridge Boys songs were on this, such as Elvira, Dream On, Thank God for Kids, I Guess it Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes, and Sail Away. Whether you are a long time ORB fan or new to their music, this album is a must. You will love it.

  1. My favorite music has always been bluegrass. I used to listen to country, but now I listen to southern gospel; however, I have always enjoyed bluegrass. When I first heard this CD featured on my local Southern Gospel Station, I knew I had to have it! If you like the Isaacs (Gospel/ Bluegrass) or Alison Kraus (Country/ Bluegerass), then you will love this group as well. I don't own the CD, but I plan to buy it.

5 comments about The Troublemaker.

  1. I don't even like gospel music and this is a good album, Willie Nelson is a real innovator, he can make something out of nothing. Aha but anyway, it's a great album that sounds really personal to Willie.

  2. I'm bought the Troublemaker on vinyl (or maybe it was cassette, I can't remember) way back in the day. I enjoyed it, and then kind of forgot about it. Until a couple of years ago, when I found this remastered CD with extra tracks.

This is vintage Willie Nelson, and that's a good thing. His sister Bobbie played piano. Doug Sahm, Larry Gatlin and others sang along.

My personal favorite track here is Uncloudy Day, but it's also fun to crank up those really rocking-out live tracks and share in the fun.

The Troublemaker stands the test of time, and it's good to see reviews from younger Willie fans who are also enjoying this piece of gold from the past.

  3. If you like Willie Nelson and Gospel Music, this album is a MUST HAVE! It's a perfect CD with Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and Jimmy Day to name a few performing. What a group! Get the album.

  4. As a new fan of Willie Nelson, I was surprised to come across this album and its great reviews on Amazon. I had no idea it even existed. Most of Willie's older material, and even his new recordings, tends to get buried under the avalanche of the more polished, commercial pop that passes for country these days.

On Troublemaker, Nelson performs the classic gospel tunes with energy and obvious enjoyment, which makes for a very fun listening experience. Also, the sound is very well done; it's much cleaner than I expected. If you like good old fashioned country and/or gospel, your money would be well spent on Troublemaker.

  5. This is my favorite Willie Nelson album of all time. The album went to number 1 on the country charts in 1976 and went "Gold." The performances of Gospel classics are great, ranging from footstompin' to moving and peaceful. "Uncloudy Day" was a big hit and is included on several of his greatest hits compilations, but all the songs on here are very good. Highly recommended for any Willie Nelson fan or fan of Gospel.

  1. I will review it when I receive the product. Please check that it has definately left your warehouse.

  2. Hymns Through the CenturiesHe has a beautiful voice, it you like the old songs, you'll like this!

  3. Old time hymns without the rock n roll. Years ago the churches condemned rock n roll as evil. Now most of them have rock bands in church, what's up with that eh? There is no rock here my friends just good gospel music spreading the good news! Welcome home to those who remember the good music that God surely likes.

  4. This cd has all the great hymns of yesterday. Ernie Ford has such a captivating voice and is so easy to listen to.

  5. When it comes to Christian music, no one can praise the Lord in song like ETF.

5 comments about The Great Lost Performance.

  1. It was just ok. It wasn't one of Johnny's more dynamic performances and the back up musicians were not up to par. I wouldn't buy it again.

  2. I own as much recordings of Johnny Cash as I've been able to get my hands on through the years. I've always thought that his LIVE performances were his best; Folsom, San Quentin, London Palladium (The "Strawberry Cake" album), Madison Square Garden, Austin,TX., Louisiana Heyride, Osteraker, etc. and seeing him perform live a dozen or more times are my favorite memories. This live performance in Asbury Park, N.J. is indeed a rare performance and a must have for ALL Johnny Cash fans and for those who are not. This concert includes performances of many songs that John rarely sang in concert. This is a real treat to hear him sing "Tennessee Flat Top Box","Life's Railway To Heaven" and more. For those of you who enjoyed his "Ride This Train" segment on the TV show, he performs one here. All in all John always poured his heart into his shows, like he once said at a concert in Shreveport, LA. when the audience was small due to poor weather, he'll give you his best rather they're in front of 50,000 fans or 500, he'll give you the same quality performance. In conclusion, if you like even one Johnny Cash song, you'll love this CD.

  3. This is a great performance by Johnny Cash. Anyone who loves his music should purchase it.

  4. This is a fabulous album, poignant and inspiring quality. It is more of a studio quality recording with less of the audience energy as Folsom & San Quentin shows, but this is a prime selection of superb songs. I miss you Johnny.

  5. Unlike so many "live" CDs where Johnny Cash is heard doing the same set of songs from show to show, this CD gives a full rendering of Cash's gospel side...and features singers from his tour (and TV show) that you rarely hear on the other "live" discs.

Its a definate "Must Have" for those who enjoy hearing Johnny Cash step beyond the standard 8 or 10 songs we've all heard a thousand times!

  1. Discussed by phone a problem with trying to order this product from Hastings, which was entirely dissatisfactory.
My only suggestsion is that you make your toll free number more accessible.

The item turned out to be on sale,so I got it for much less expensive than I would have. It was a replacement, since I lost my original copy bought in 2004, and I treasure it for sentimental reasons besides loving the music, so I was very impressed with ordering it, and did so immediately after talking with your agent. He even credited my account $5.00 for my experience with Hastings, and said he took notes.

Ultimately Hastings did credit my return of their sending me the wrong product, I have to say, in a timely matter, so that helped.

  2. I was unable to assess this product because the disks were faulty. I could not play Disk #6 on any CD palyer and the others would not play fully on my car player.

  3. This is a wonderful collection of artists and music assembled in one set that can not be duplicated.

For those of you who love classic country and bluegrass this is just excellent music, great selections and a one of a kind boxed set.

  4. I have always loved the Circle CD's but this trilogy set is totally awesome with the combination of the original players and Nitty's version all in 1 box, can't be beat.

  5. Just a fantastic box set. Each Volume exceeds the quality of the previous one. The DVD of the concert is great. You won't be disappointed buying this Nitty Gritty Dirt Band set.

  1. Like all gospel music by Randy Travis. He is a great gospel singer and would recommend any of his CD'S.

  2. can sing real country and does a great job with this cd. Pray for the fish is cute song that my brother played over and over again. He isn't even a Christian! A very good cd for the country gospel community.

  3. Rise and shine is as good as any bible music I have ever heard except mahalia jackson , maybe. I am atheist, but my love of music trumps religion in this CD. At one time I didn't even like country, but Randy Travis has "the Voice", I won't go into his personal life, but this Bible CD, is very good, every song has a good story, none are poorly done. I would think "Three wooden crosses " is the highpoint of the CD, the story has been told for eons, probly since the ancient greek days, for sure Shakespear had to have something compareable. It is my second copy, the first I gave away to a hurricane Katrina victim. Give it a try.

  4. I have 1 already and brought 2 more for birthday presents. Gave one to my pastor--he truly enjoyed it. the other one will be in December. This CD is AWESOME!!!!!! my granddaugther who is 7 is learning the songs on this Cd by sitting in the backseat of my car.I truly enjoy listening to Randy sings gospels songs.

  5. This is a great Cd for christian music lovers and Country music lovers. Randy Travis does it all!

4 comments about Kneel at the Cross.

  1. It is a long-standing tradition in country music to get big stars to do gospel favorites and classic hymns. The results can often be quite mediocre (uninspired, overly sentimental, sloppy musical arrangements, etc.) or quite good (as with Johnny Cash). Happily, I would mostly put this collection in the latter category. This is largely a better version of the 2004 release, 'Amazing Grace, vol. 3' (also by Sparrow Records), which included six of the songs found on this collection:

'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus - Cyndi Thomson
Softly And Tenderly - Josh Turner
It Is No Secret - Dierks Bentley
I Need Thee Every Hour - Jamie O'Neal
Victory In Jesus - Trace Adkins
Just A Closer Walk With Thee - Joe Nichols

These are largely the better tracks from the prior album, with Cyndi Thomson's rendition of "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" being the stand-out track in my opinion. The added tracks in this new collection are fantastic, including Lee Ann Womack at her finest in "Get Up in Jesus' Name" and a lovely, respectful version of "Amazing Grace" by Lari White. The arrangements on all the tracks are well-thought and the singing is sincere. My only disappointment is the leading track, "But For the Grace of God," by Keith Urban, which is a fine song but doesn't quite belong with the other, more traditional, songs.

  2. This is a neat little compilation.
However, I'm not sure the tracks aren't better in context of the individual artists albums.

  3. This was a perfect gift for my husband, however I think I have listened to it more!

  4. This CD has good songs but some of the performances are not up to par. It is not one I will listen to very often.

5 comments about Elvis' Christmas Album.

  1. What can I say that hasn't been said before about The King? His voice, the arrangement of the songs, his musical directors, song selections are all outstanding. Elvis is right up there with Mozart, Bach, and so on. The CD is the CD issue of Elvis' first LP. Nice to hear clean recordings and what an easy way to play the recording. There is a bonus on the CD that many have missed and that should be noted. The bonus is not available on Elvis' original LP. The Christmas song, White Christmas, includes studio chatter. The studio chatter White Christmas is available only on this CD.

  2. To reviewer Bon Jovi Fan a bit of history. This CD release contains the exact songs that appeared on the first Elvis' Christmas Album, released in 1957 on RCA Victor LOC-1035. The one you recall with the same title was released in 1970 on RCA Camden CAL-2428, containing a mix of some of the earlier tracks with new ones, including If Every Day Was Like Christmas. Written by Red West, it was recorded on June 11, 1966 in Nashville and first released that year as a single b/w How Would You Like To Be?

As another reviewer points out, this one, when first released, became the target of that element of society self-righteously "scandalized" by the "vulgar hip-swinging degenerate" who was "corrupting our children" led by the son of C&W legend Hank Snow, one Jimmie Rodgers Snow, the most pious of them all. In other words, those yabos who were doing all they could to kill R&R at birth. Of course, the R&R DJs, when playing anything from the album, had zeroed in on tunes like Blue Christmas (which actually dates back to 1949 by Ernest Tubb, Russ Morgan, and Hugo Winterhalter) and Lieber & Stoller's driving Santa Claus Is Back In Town.

Only when they eventually heard his mellow tones on White Christmas and I'll Be Home For Christmas, the carols Silent Night and Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem, and the four gospel tunes included (especially Take My Hand, Precious Lord), did some of them - not all, mind you, but a few - admit that they had perhaps over-reacted. Snow, thankfully, just faded into obscurity.

The sound reproduction is excellent, and although there are no liner notes with the insert, you do get nine pages of vintage colour photographs of Elvis. No collection of Christmas music is complete without this one.

  3. This is the original Elvis Christmas Album as released in 1957. It was considered very controversial when it was released (as were most Elvis releases during that time), but it was still a huge hit commercially, hitting number 1 on the Billboard album charts (before they created a separate category for Christmas albums).

Eight Christmas songs were included in his original 1957 Christmas album along with the 4 Gospel songs from the "Peace In The Valley" EP. His original Christmas album was repackaged and re-released in 1970 with the 4 Gospel songs being replaced by "If Every Day was Like Christmas" (which was originally released as a single in 1966) and the non-Christmas song "Mama Liked The Roses". The 1970 edition was then re-packaged and released on CD as "It's Christmas Time" a few years ago.

Elvis' performance on the songs here are excellent! Several of these recordings have become Christmas classics, still receiving significant radio airplay nearly 50 years after they were recorded!

While this was a great album in its day, it has since been superceeded. All the songs on this album are currently available on the Elvis "White Christmas" CD along with "If Every Day was Like Christmas" and "Mama Liked The Roses" and every song from his "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album which was released in 1971. Unless you just want to buy this CD for its historical significance, I would recommend that you spend a few extra bucks and buy the Elvis "White Christmas" album instead. You will get a lot more Christmas cheer!

  4. When Elvis' christmas recordings were reissued on CD, there was apparently some mixing and matching going on. While I totally love this CD, it is not the same one I listened to that my mom had on LP when I was little. It has several additions and omissions from that one, most notably the lack of "If Everyday Was Like Christmas". That song can be found on a CD of the same title, but the track listing of another one called "It's Christmas Time" by Elvis looks more familiar as the one I liked as a kid. Elvis' stuff is always great, though, so I still recommend this one, too.

  5. This was Elvis's first Christmas album, recorded in 1957. It's a certifiable classic. Side one featured Elvis doing secular Christmas songs. "Santa Claus is Back in Town" is an awesome blues song that features D.J. Fontana's best drumming ever, arguably. "White Christmas" is a fine performance that owes a lot to the Drifters' version. "Here Comes Santa Claus" is a cool rockabilly style performance. "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is a good ballad. "Blue Christmas" is Elvis's best Christmas song, and it made everyone forget the original Ernest Tubb version. Side one closed with the original pop rocker "Santa Bring My Baby Back". Side two of the album featured religious songs. However, only two of the songs are actual Christmas songs. The last four songs are taken from the previously released "Peace in the Valley" EP. But when the songs are as great as these four are, why complain? I highly recommend this CD.

5 comments about Sings 22 Favorite Hymns.

  1. These are the traditional hymns I grew up with and Mr. Ford sings them beautifully. Listening to them gives me time to pause in my life for private worship and praise to God through song.

  2. Some of the best old sacred songs in the beautiful voice of Tennessee Ernie Ford!

  3. My mother was dying in a hospice. We needed some music to play for her while she was there. Two of her favorite hymns were on the one cd. It was hard to find that. Amazon came through with the selection, and overnited it to me. My mother passed 2 days later. I'll always be grateful for that cd.

  4. Tennessee Ernie Ford was a very popular singer when I was a child and my parents and siblings loved to watch his TV show. He would always end the show with a hymn and I wanted to revisit those songs and the happy days of my youth. The Hymns and Ernie are as good as ever.

  5. I bought this CD specifically for the song "My Faith Looks Up To Thee" which is hard to find on a CD. This hymn was written in 1830 by Ray Palmer (lyrics) and put to music later by Lowell Mason, a man Palmer met on the streets of Boston. Mason took home the lyric, wrote a melody, and a few days later found Palmer and told him no matter what Palmer did for the rest of his life, he would be remembered for the hymn.

Another gem here is "Just As I Am Without One Plea." This is the amazing story of Charlotte Elliot. This bedridden, sick woman was feeling sorry she could not help her pastor with his fundraising for charity as she was simply too sick. After writing this hymn in 1835, she was shocked to find copies of it being sold by the thousands. The proceeds were given to the very charity Charlotte thought she could not help. After she died in 1871, others found stacks of letters sent to her from all over the world, thanking her for changing their lives and bringing them to Christ.

These are not the only two historical hymns in collection.

This is not just a CD of the great hymns of our time. This CD is a living history of hymns going far back in time.

    It is a treasure.

I am thankful I got a chance to see Tennessee Ernie Ford when he appeared on TV during his glory years.
