2 comments about Tragic Songs of Life/Satan Is Real.
- Many people have never heard of the Louvin Brothers, and that's a shame. This double-record CD is a good introduction, along with the "greatest hits" selection found on the CD, "When I Stop Dreaming." I found out about them by listening to Emmylou Harris's covers of their songs, which are beautiful and haunting.
The Louvins first sang gospel songs then moved into country. They popularized a style of singing called "close harmony" that was later refined by the Everly Brothers. What makes them fascinating to me is the dramatic contrast between their songs and their personal lives. As I listen to "I like the Christian life" (from "Satan is Real"), I can't help but think of Ira Louvin's alcoholism, fighting, and vicious personality (people around the brothers commonly referred to Ira as "mean as a snake"). As well as the fact that, when he died in a drunken automobile crash with his fourth wife, Ira still had four bullets in his back from when his third wife shot him.
It's that kind of incongruity that makes the Louvins fascinating to me. They were excellent musicians and songwriters, but Ira was also an extraordinarily conflicted individual. That had to color his artistry. And, it gives their music a depth and texture that transcends, at least for me, the religious themes that may put some others off.
You might want to give the Louvin Brothers a listen.
- a little too jesusie for my taste.

- Do you love Bluegrass? Then this Cd has to be in your collection! It won't be complete without it!
- I still remember the first time I heard Front Range's song: One Beautiful Day...I was in my car and had turned on the radio. I heard the chorus with its beautiful harmonies and its haunting message. I could not get the song out of my mind. We have since sung it at several peace rallies in our town.
I saw the group perform live...so talented and charismatic. I wish they were still touring. This CD has several excellent songs on it, but the title cut is enough to make the purchase worthwhile.
- This music sounds like the photo on the cover. Absolutely beautiful.

- for a singer in his eighties this is outstanding.but following his older recordings this is naturally a comedown.better to stay with his recordings prior to 2000.hes still remarkably good but stick to his earlier recordings.

1 comments about Capitol Collectors Series.
- Warning: MOST of the collections of his music out there do NOT have "Sixteen Tons" on them! The rights must be tied up or something... I'm not sure, but this one is one of the only few that has that song on it.
PLUS this one has "Ballad of Davy Crockett" and "Nine Pound Hammer", "Tennessee Border", "Ain't Nobody's Business", "Catfish Boogie" and so on.
Great collection!

- This is the real thing. Good recording quality, good variety, very informative liner notes.
Lots of songs so on a cost per song you can't go wrong
- I LIKE THIS SERIES BECAUSE UNLIKE THE OTHER CDs OF THE OLD "FOGEY-STOGEY" BLUEGRASS MUSICIANS, THIS ONE THE SOUND IS OVERALL CLEAN THOUGH NOT CRYSTAL CLEAR AND SHARP LIKE THE CONTEMPORARY RECORDINGS OF TODAY. MY FAVORITE CUTS ARE "JIMMY BROWN THE NEWSBOY" AND "MIDNIGHT FLYER".

5 comments about The Troublemaker.
- I don't even like gospel music and this is a good album, Willie Nelson is a real innovator, he can make something out of nothing. Aha but anyway, it's a great album that sounds really personal to Willie.
- I'm bought the Troublemaker on vinyl (or maybe it was cassette, I can't remember) way back in the day. I enjoyed it, and then kind of forgot about it. Until a couple of years ago, when I found this remastered CD with extra tracks.
This is vintage Willie Nelson, and that's a good thing. His sister Bobbie played piano. Doug Sahm, Larry Gatlin and others sang along.
My personal favorite track here is Uncloudy Day, but it's also fun to crank up those really rocking-out live tracks and share in the fun.
The Troublemaker stands the test of time, and it's good to see reviews from younger Willie fans who are also enjoying this piece of gold from the past.
- If you like Willie Nelson and Gospel Music, this album is a MUST HAVE! It's a perfect CD with Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and Jimmy Day to name a few performing. What a group! Get the album.
- As a new fan of Willie Nelson, I was surprised to come across this album and its great reviews on Amazon. I had no idea it even existed. Most of Willie's older material, and even his new recordings, tends to get buried under the avalanche of the more polished, commercial pop that passes for country these days.
On Troublemaker, Nelson performs the classic gospel tunes with energy and obvious enjoyment, which makes for a very fun listening experience. Also, the sound is very well done; it's much cleaner than I expected. If you like good old fashioned country and/or gospel, your money would be well spent on Troublemaker.
- This is my favorite Willie Nelson album of all time. The album went to number 1 on the country charts in 1976 and went "Gold." The performances of Gospel classics are great, ranging from footstompin' to moving and peaceful. "Uncloudy Day" was a big hit and is included on several of his greatest hits compilations, but all the songs on here are very good. Highly recommended for any Willie Nelson fan or fan of Gospel.

4 comments about Living by the Book.
- This has got to be his best work ever, I have all his albums and this is by far the one that brings me to my knees everytime! I loved it so much I went out and bought his book "Forever and Ever Amen" which discusses his walk away and return to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I recommend this CD Living By the Book as one of the greatest witness tools out in the world today. My son sang with the CD Lost and Found at a singspriation to announce to everyone of his acceptance of Chirst as his personal Savior and the tears that were shed, not just for him but for the words of the songs, My family sang on Easter morning He is Risen and the whole church was moved beyond belief. You have got to have this in YOUR collection!...
- When I need my spirits lifted I listen to this CD and before I know it I am smiling and singing along at the top of my lungs.
- I've searched long and hard for Christian Country music. I was glad to discover Paul Overstreet's music. After purchasing the cd and listening to the songs all the way through - I can only say it has been a God-send in my life. The songs touch my soul each time I hear them. My favorites are "Lost & Found" and "Why". I dearly hope that Paul Overstreet will continue to write and sing the songs that put focus right where it should be - on God. Thank you Paul Overstreet for being encouraging and uplifting in your songs. Incidentally, after hearing my cd, my friends couldn't wait to get theirs'.
- I loved this! It is hard to find a good Christian Country music recording. Paul Overstreet has an amazing gift for songwriting. The lyrics to these songs really touched my heart and the music is terrific. I've been humming the tune to "Lost & Found" almost constantly since I first heard it. The words to "Oh Why" are incredible. I believe this is Mr. Overstreet's best album to date.
