  1. I play this CD over and over. When Wabash Cannonball comes on, I can just see my mother standing at the sink, washing dishes and singing her heart out. These are the songs I grew up with. The best of Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynette.

  1. I would like to say that all the Chuckwagon gang tapes are exceptionally good. Especially for the people who like old time Gospel. I lost my cd that had the song on it(God put a rainbow in the cloud) I would be very interested in getting this cd but I cannot remember the name of the album

  1. This volume of Amazing Grace is a fairly good cd, but if you are looking for more then I would recommend Volume 1 or Volume 3 over Volume 2.

  1. Great singing as always from Larry. A good selection of tunes both new and old. The rendition of "Patches" is first rate. This should have been a bluegrass song along time ago. "I Will Always Be Waiting for You" is catchy and represents what the boarderline sound has come to mean. If you like modern bluegrass with out it being "newgrass" with great high lead and tenor this is a good album to have.

  1. The Blackwood Brothers and Statesmen with Hovie Lister used to make the Southern Gospel concert circuit on a regular basis, coming to West Monroe, Louisiana consistently. I grew up listening to such inspiring artists. This is a group that was part of creating a genre that has endured for a long time.

Hearing Rosie Rozell's rendition of "Oh What A Savior" gives you an idea of what a class Southern Gospel song is. A couple of Rusty Goodman's songs are in this collection, i.e., "I Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now," and "Who Am I?". Another great Statesman tune in the set is "How Long Has it Been?". This is a great addition to anyone's audio library! It's among the best in the genre.

The authenticity is captured in this CD. It transports you back to the stage days of Southern Gospels' great singers. The lyric and harmony are awe inspiring. No wonder so many reviewers give it 5 stars.

  2. You can't beat it! Southern gospel at it's best! One of the best groups you'll find, with some of their best hits. Four part harmony! Quartets with a high tenor and a low bass, and good melody line--wow!! I could listen all day! If you like gospel the "old fashioned" way, served up by a great group--buy a copy of this CD. Enjoy!

  3. The Statesman were my favorite quartet for many years. I had most all their albums dating back to 1958. Jim "Big Chief" Weatherington was my hero with his bass singing. Not the "lowest" but the most melo. A friend of mine who owns a Gospel Music Radio station "gave to me" all the Statesmen music when they disbanded and I have always treasured it. Sadly, Hurricane Katrina took all of, not only The Statesmen, every peice of music I had. I'm now trying to replace what I can find, anywhere I can find it. Fact is that some of the Remastered CD's sound better than the old albums.(no scratches)
Hovie Lister really knew the sound that he wanted and, to me, it was the best. Try one of these CD's, you'll love it.

  4. Iam a fan of old-time gospel music and this cd is excellent and the Statesmen are wonderful.I would recommend this cd to anyone who is building a gospel collection. I can listen to this cd al day long.

  5. The Statesmen were the first SG group I listened to when I was first saved over 30yrs ago. The song "Unworthy" was my first solo soon after.. This group holds special meaning for me, and this recording is one I recommend. Anyone who is a fan of SG music should consider this a must-have...
