1. I love bass singers and none come better than George. My Father was terminally ill in August and his favorite hymn is "I Know Who Holds My Hand". We played it as part of the service. I'm just disapointed George doesn't have more albums. I am reordering this one because I gave it to my Step-Mom after the service.

1. While playing and listening to this CD, I can't help but tremble and cry as their Heavenly voices touch and embrace my soul. My spirit has never experienced the nourishment and comfort that this CD has brought into my heart and soul. This CD is one every gospel lover world wide should have in their collection. River of Tears explains the many trials, tribulations, and pain we all experience as we are "Winding Through Life". "Just Let Me Fly" tells the story of a woman brought back to life by a doctor, then tearfully she immediately tells of her after life experience and asks the doctor "Why didn't you just let me fly with the angels?" What a heartbreaking, or to many, a heart warming song. All the other songs are also great pieces of work that this great band sent from Heaven has given us. The most angelic voices I can remember having ever brought such an inspiration to my heart to the extent that I can't wait to get to Heaven! GOD BLESS THESE INSPIRATIONAL CHILDREN OF THE LORD FOREVER!! I want to sing with Doyle Lawson in Heaven someday and for eternity.



2. I am a very loyal fan and devoted follower of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, but this CD was a mild disappointment. The songs all sounded "right off an assembly line" and lacked the uniqueness that I associate with DL&Q. The harmonies were great; the music good; and Barry Scott is sensational (does a lot of tenor leads). I just wasn't pleased with the selection of music that they chose for this CD. I wish I'd listened to it before buying it, but after all I figure I couldn't go wrong with Doyle Lawson; but alas, my first (of probably many)mistakes and ultimate disappointments in the field of music.



3. Doyle Lawson and his band of very talented musicians obviously visited the drug store before going to the studio to cut this CD. A more dreary set of gospel numbers I've never heard. This effort does not live up to this group's potential. Notwithstanding Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine's adulation of Mr. Lawson in a recent issue, he really needs to get back to bluegrass gospel basics and choose some more spirited arrangements. I wish I had my money back.



4. I have been a Doyle Lawson fan since the "Rock My Soul" days and he has recorded a lot of great gospel recordings but this is THE BEST in my book, if you like Blugrass Gospel or Southern Gospel than this is a must have.



5. Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver has always been a great group. This particular recording is their best. It has a good mixture of songs and the harmonies are superb. I would highly recommend this album to bluegrass gospel lovers. They need to make an entire acapella bluegrass gospel album. Keep up the good work!

1. Playing Time - 40:56 -- With over 50 years in business, Rural Rhythm Records has built a catalog that connects many dots from past to present. Since its 1955 creation, Rural Rhythm has released hundreds of classic performances by many legendary bluegrass and old-time musicians such as J.E. Mainer, Don Reno, Red Smiley, Mac Wiseman, Vassar Clements, Hylo Brown, Bill Harrell, Jim Eanes, and many others. This album is part of that archival catalog. The label owes its Arcadia, California start to Uncle Jim O'Neal whose vision was to release the music of many top bluegrass and old-time musicians in the 1950-70s, seeking success where Starday had failed by producing records of limited appeal by lesser known, albeit talented, musicians.
   
   Produced by Lee Sutton (the same visionary who captured the music of the legendary J.E. Mainer), this album captured the sound of the coffee-drinking nighthawk Lee Moore, and Ohio native who plunked guitar and sang. Lee is backed up by Tater Tate (fiddle), Billy Edwards (banjo), John Palmer (bass), and Danny Milhon (Dobro). As part of Rural Rhythm's archive, Uncle Jim O'Neal liked to offer 20 tracks on the LPs originally issued. This album was originally released in 1968 entitled "Everybody's Favorites," and it was Lee's second project for Rural Rhythm label. Unfortunately, many of the tunes have similar tempos, melodies, and the set comes across as rather banal. However, Lee's big popular hit "The Cat Came Back" is included, and he also had an affinity for other novelty tunes like "She's Some Daisy for 19 Years Old," about a woman who's actually 90. Lee and the band also do a nice job on a ¾-time song like "When Mother Played the Organ."
   
   For CD, the music's been remastered. Liner notes are included from Barry Willis, author of "America's Music: Bluegrass." Born in 1914, Lee was a well-liked deejay on WWVA out of Wheeling, W.V. whose show aired at 2 A.M. from 1953-69. Insomniacs and long-haulers were a large part of his audience. Even after retiring from his radio show, he continued playing WWVA's Jamboree until 1973.
   
   If interested in Moore's obscure songs heard in the 50s and 60s, check out his favorites. Some of them (e.g. "Streamlined Cannonball") might have potential for songcarriers to revive for the 21-st century. Lee also especially liked folk songs that told stories like "Strawberry Roan." Don't expect to hear vocal harmonies, elaborate arrangements or the same level of clarion studio recording quality we hear today. Rather, just enjoy and relive a classic bluegrass sound of yesteryear. Most of the cuts span about 2 minutes apiece. Just enjoy and relive a classic bluegrass sound of yesteryear.
