  1. This CD is simply and utterly awesome! My toddler has been bebopping to it for months and when she's old enough to understand the words, she'll also get inspiring messages from "Brand New Key." The girl's solo in the middle of that song is really nice and spreads the word about the world living together as one. "Cookie Jar" is too cute and too funny--an original and creative remake of that kid's song. I still crack up every time I hear it! But most importantly, I love that my daughter is getting a taste of different flavors of music and American culture. The musicians have taken some classics and fitted them with a new sound representative of African-American culture. I'm a white American living in France and so couldn't be more thrilled that my daughter is exposed to children's music from my country other than Barney, Seasame St., etc. I'm waiting for #2--hurry up!

  2. I loved this CD and my infant son does as well. I think we will be listening to this CD well into his toddler years - it can be sung along to quite easily. I am a huge hip hop fan and I got this because I am finding that my collection is inappropriate for young kids. But this CD did not offend my hip hop sensibilities at all.

  3. I hate to give this a 1 but since Amazon has decided to encode it in a format that doesn't have a decoder for Mac OS X. I can't tell if it is any better. If I have the opportunity I'd be happy to change it. In the mean time maybe some other online store has a sample that I can listen to.

  4. Hippity Hop is the best childrens cd ever. It really touches my soul. I feel that all ages can get into this music. .With songs like cookie jar, everyday people, funky nursery rhymes, brand new key and others this cd gives hip hop a new meaning. Try this cd and give it your own opinion. Don't take my word for it.

  1. I've been waiting a couple years for Pat and his band to get out nd another CD, and this one doesn't disappoint. It's a stripped down bluesy affair recorded in Jimbo Mathus's Knockdown South studios. There's so much live energy in this recordng, it almost sounds like they drank a case of Shiner Bocks and carted in a truckload of sawdust for the studio floor before they started rolling the tape. If you like your music real, and in particular, your blues raw, then this is the CD for you. I highly recommend catching Pat and his band live as well.

  1. Thunderpuss rules! The beats on their mix of Tamia's "Stranger in My House" are insane!!! Here's a list of their Top 10 remixes:
    1. It's Not Right, But It's Okay by Whitney Houston
    2. Lady Marmalade by Moulin Rouge!
    3. Tell Me Why by Spice Girls
    4. Song for the Lonely by Cher
    5. Stranger in My House by Tamia (this release)
    6. I'm A Slave 4 U by Britney Spears
    7. All for You by Janet Jackson
    8. Can't Fight the Moonlight by LeAnn Rimes
    9. Get the Party Started by P!nk (actually just Barry Harris)
    10. No More Drama by Mary J. Blige

    On to this CD...
Wonderful dance music. That about sums it up.

  2. The remixes of ' Stranger in My House' are the best club remixes ever produced - period! The ' Thunderpuss Club Mix' is pure dance heaven, outdoing even their already quite impressive work on Whitney Houston's ' It's Not Right'. The stop-and-go beats typifying the song's bridge are exactly what dance-lovers have come to love about Thunderpuss - thunderooooous! The 'HQ2 Club Mix' is equally enjoyable, though less of a classic moment than, let's say, Melanie C's ' I Turn to You'. The 'Maurice's Club Anthem' is perhaps the only weak mix in the collection, coming off as a pale imitation of the above-mentioned mixes. Considering the lacklustre mixes he did for Destiny Child, this does not come as a surprise. All in all, this is a superb CD.

  3. This is one of the best Club Hits of all time. Tamia has a great voice and this mixes are hot! I love especially the H2Q Club Mix..

  4. Okay here's the thing, I don't see how anyone can get LeAnn Rymes & Tamia's voices mixed up, as they are completely different & both sing very different styles of music.

Plus, just because they are both from Canada does not mean they have to sound the same! Tamia has a very unique & powerful style as do most R&B/Soul singers and would be more likely to be compared to someone like Deborah Cox or Chante Moore.

Anyway, in relation to "Stranger In My House" this is a hot LP which includes some great club mixes and also a So So Def Remix by JD himself, which I always like to see!

The song is fantastic both lyrically & vocally but I wouldn't expect anything less from Tamia as she is an extremely talented artist.

I would also recommend you pick up the album the song is lifted from "Nu Day" for more of the same plus appearances from the other single "Can't Go For That", Missy Elliott's production and even an appearance from Snoop Dogg.

Please also see if you can get your ears on a song from her third album called "Mr.Cool" which features Mario Winans & is definetely one of her best to date.

Tamia is a very beautiful and undeniably talented vocalist and I'm glad she's not lowered herself to trying to please the mainstream, prefering to go the way that suits her and us real R&B and Soul fans. Keep it up Tamia we're all rooting for you!

PS. What's going on with "Still" or "More" or whatever the new album is called now? I've checked on Elektra's and Tamia's websites and there is a supreme lack of info! Hit me back by e-mail if you know anything anyone!

  5. First of All:

Rebecca from Medford...I think you need your ears checked because there is a HUGE difference between some country twangin' southerner and a richly soulful Canadian. Not that I don't have mad love for Leann Rhimes, she has some good songs that I like to listen to but I honestly cannot see how one could mistake the two. Leann has a slightly deeper voice, while Tamia's voice is higher and more raspy, yet, still crisp and rich. As where Leann bellows out her notes, Tamia belts them. There is a difference; if you cannot tell the difference, then you shouldn't point out your own inadequacies as a human, just simply fade into the background while the rest of NON-audibly challenged listen to our music unabated by your useless commentary.

    Secondly and Lastly...

Tamia is a great singer who doesn't get the credit she is well deserved of!

1 comments about The Chicago String Band.

  1. This CD was an attempt in the 1960s to get together some senior Black musicians to reproduce the black blues string bands that were a big part of blues music in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. The effort is led with the fiddling, singing, and general musical direction of the Great Carl Martin..

This is the way that the blues was presented as much as it was presented by individual guitar playing bluesmen. The socalled jug bands were simply iterations of these bands with jugs, often adding jugs because there was a fad to record jug bands and hire them for white parties.

This music is important since it is closer to how blues was experienced by African Americans as a dance music played by enough people to power good dancing. The idea of the single isolated blues singer with a guitar, singing a three minute song heavy on words, is a product of the limits of the 78 record, and the white post folkie bluesniks who took the blues out of the African American context. If Robert Johnson's recordings are all just him and his guitar, his companions report Johnson was usually looking for a partner to perform and play with and was thinking of setting up a combo with even a horn at the time of his death.

The problem again is that both folklorists of the 30s and 1940s and the recording industry were more partial to single blues guitarists or pianists and were not at all interested in Black string band music.

What a pity. This is good music to move to, to dance to, to listen to.
