  1. I bought this on a total whim after seeing the movie. I've listened to it several times (actually I'm listening to it right now on iTunes!) and I am really enjoying it. The album features a lot of contemporary artists that have each recorded original songs inspired by the tale of "Alice." I like how there is a very diverse mix of songs. You have a bunch of dance songs and a couple more classic rock sounding ones. Then there's the Tokio Hotel/ Avril Lavigne/ Metro Station emo kind of mix. Some of my favorites are Kerli's "Tea Party," Robert Smith's "Very good advice," Owl City's "Techincolor phase," Avril's "Alice," Wolfmother's "Fell down a hole," Grace Potter's "White Rabbit," and Plain White T's "Welcome to Mystery." They are all really cool, fun songs to just jam out to but some are definitely better than others depending on your taste. And I love all the "Alice" references! The artists did a great job using the movie as inspiration. I'm not too fond of Tokio Hotel or Metro Station's renditions and Shinedown's track is the one song I don't even listen to. But I would recommend this. It's fun to listen to it!

PS: Owl City's track is from a previous album of theirs. I was a little disappointed they didn't record an "Alice"-inspired original, but it's still a great track!

  2. I love every song on this soundtrack. they did such a great job, to hear 3oh3 and the rest was amazing. I have to say hearing OWL CITY really made my day! This song is a really great song from OWL CITY! made me go back and listen to more and more owl city songs.! go owl city!!

  3. I love the Alice and Wonderland soundtrack. My favorite song off the album is by Owl City. This cd is a must get.

  4. There are a lot of interesting artists on this album. I especially love Motion City Soundtrack, Owl City, and Franz Ferdinand. Definitely worth giving a listen to.

  5. The decision to include "The Technicolor Phase" was definitely the right decision, and I'm glad they chose to include Owl City on this album. The concept of the song really goes with the movie.
Just over all very well put together soundtrack, and it includes a great combination of artists. Every song flows together nicely. Be sure to check it out(:

  1. I purchased this CD to play in my car while taking my kids to and from school because there's someting for everyone on a single disk. I don't have to pop in one CD for the teenager, another for the tween, another for the toddler, and yet another for me--one stop shopping for mom and kids. If you're just an average, normal person like me and my kids then you'll probably like this CD. It represents what most of us were listening to in 2009, and I make it a point to purchase each year's Grammy CD for just that reason.

Of course, if you're one of those music purists who believe that all mainstream music is crap, then you shouldn't buy this CD. It's not the greatest music written and recorded, but it's fun and easy to listen to.

  2. I have been faithful to buy each of the Grammy CDs. I enjoy all the songs on this CD as do the rest of my family.

  3. This is a fabulous CD - I had already purchased a number of the songs as singles, but it's so wonderful to put on the CD and listen to the best of the year in review. I wasn't sure buying this CD was a good idea, but no regrets here.

  4. I love this Grammy recording great sounds that I can listen to over and over.

  5. Love the songs on this CD... it has all types of music, and I love all types of music!
All the best songs from Grammy* nominated artists.

  1. Dan Hill was not a one-hit wonder. In 1987, he had a top ten hit with "Can't We Try", a duet with Vonda Sheppard. Dan Hill also made the Hot 100 with a handful of other songs, many of which were big Adult Contemporary hits in the U.S. Furthermore, he had a slew of other hits in his native Canada. Amazon sells a fine compilation of many of these songs: http://www.amazon.com/Love-My-Life-Best-Hill/dp/B00003OTEO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263608517&sr=8-1 .

  2. I gave this CD to my Wife and she Loved it. This was our Decade.

  3. Great selection of oldies hits by the original artists. Very happy with this purchase, so I can listen to them songs I grew up with!

  4. This CD is awesome! Every song brings out the childhood memories of growing up. This is what music is really about - the songwriting, the artists and the productions. I recommend this CD to anyone to the 70"s genre for a little rememberance and relaxation.

  5. Of the 20 songs on this very reasonably priced disc, at least 15 are worth the cost.
I actually put this into the cart to make up the required $25 for free-shipping. I grew up in the 70s, so these songs bring back enough memories to make it a good purchase.
Enjoy! Mood rings and pet rocks!! Peace!

  1. You will not be disappointed by this collection. Not only does it include top artists but the placement of tracks is just as it should be in mixing genres like this. Highly recommend!

  2. IF YOU LIKE ALL KINDS OF MUSIC AND HAVE KIDS (8YRS AND OLDER) ITS PERFECT !

  3. Being more of a classic rock person, the Grammy Nominee series enables me to have more current music in my library. Current 2009 release did not disappoint; even my daughters listen.

  4. I don't listen to the radio much but if this is the best the music industry has to offer this past year I won't be turning my radio on any time soon. There were a couple songs that were good (Adele's Chasing Pavements for one) but overall it's horrendous!!!

  5. THESE GRAMMY NOMINATION CD'S ARE VERY GOOD BECAUSE YOU GET ALL THE BEST SONGS IN ONE CD.
I RATE THIS AND ALL THE GRAMMY CDS EXCELLENT FOR THE VARIETY AND POPULARITY OF THE BEST SONGS.

  1. this is from my generation
    had this on vinyl
this was uploaded to my iTunes & then to my touch
    love the songs

  2. The movie was great, but the music made it that way. I can remember Wolfman Jack in the mid-sisties when I was stationed in San Diego. The tunes are original artists and they bring back so many memories. This is one of the best CDs I have ever bought.

  3. Anyone who grew up in the 50's and 60's will love this soundtrack. Just close your eyes and be transported back to a simpler time when living was easy. Wolfman Jack makes this a priceless collector's item. Enjoy!

  4. GREAT FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH - great soundtrack. Brought back fond memories of another time

  5. American Graffiti had an abundance of terrific, classic hits from the 1950s and early 1960s; and just one listen proves it! There's an excellent degree of diversity amongst these rock and doo-wop artists; but they all have one thing in common--they were the best of their time. The quality of the sound on this two CD set is excellent and I like the artwork as well.

There's so much great music here; and there's not a dud in the bunch. The first CD opens with Bill Haley & The Comets giving their all on "(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock;" this was a massive hit for them! The music is perfect and it still rocks great today! The Crests outdo even themselves on "Sixteen Candles;" this charming ballad moves me with its natural beauty and that's grand. "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" gets the royal treatment from Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers; they do this faultlessly and that horn solo is perfect! Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day" lacks nothing, either--this music is all THAT good.

"At the Hop" has a great, fast beat that's good for dancing even today; and The Diamonds' "Stroll" is a magnificent tune that I really like. Listen also for The Tempos to do great justice to "See You in September;" and The Beach Boys perform "Surfin' Safari" without a hitch! In addition, The Platters' "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" glows brighter than silver and gold as they do this gentle ballad to perfection--and beyond! The Diamonds' "Little Darlin'" was always one of my favorites; and Joey Dee & the Starliters are wonderful on "Peppermint Twist." Great! Buddy Holly's "Maybe Baby" is another fine tune, too.

The second CD continues the great numbers. Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" is classic early rock and roll; the music fits perfectly with Chuck's vocals and that electric guitar enhances this all the more. The Flamingos deliver "I Only Have Eyes for You" with panache; and "Get a Job" by The Silhouettes is another one that still sounds terrific in our times. "Do You Wanna Dance" gets a fine treatment from Bobby Freeman and there's yet another gem in "Come Go with Me" by The Del Vikings. I love it!

Johnny Burnette does "You're Sixteen" with lots of positive energy; and The Skyliners' "Since I Don't Have You" also shines bright. "Chantilly Lace" by The Big Bopper is very well done. The Heartbeats perform "A Thousand Miles Away" flawlessly. Awesome! Of course, Booker T. & the MG's "Green Onions" is an instrumental number that always sounds cool and hip; and listen for The Platters to deliver "Only You (And You Alone)" without ever letting go of a single superfluous note! The second CD ends very nicely with The Beach Boys doing "All Summer Long;" this leaves me wanting even more!

I highly recommend this two CD set for anyone who enjoys music from the 1950s and early 1960s when there certainly was a certain type of innocence that just doesn't exist these days. This is also a fine starter CD set for people just getting into this genre of music.

  1. I have been fascinated with the 60s and 70s since I was a little kid (22 years old now) and I remember listening to this album as a middle schooler and loving the Hendrix and everything else. Listening to it now still stirs up the same fascination and love of the music of the era. Some of the songs might not have top-notch sound quality, but I think that adds to the recordings and makes them feel much more raw and thrown together, much like the festival itself. The CSN (and sometimes Y) songs on this album are great to listen to, especially if you are very familiar with the originals. Also, all of the dialog and singing about protesting, peace, and stopping the war really lets you know what and when you are listening to. I am sure some people will scoff at me for not being old enough to really know about how this all happened and the significance of it; they are probably right, but I feel like I can still appreciate (to an extent) the gravity of the situation and the beauty of the music. If you like this kind of music and want to have a taste of one of the pivotal moments in popular music history, get this CD. Worth every penny.

  2. I bought this CD to use in a movie I'm making of my husband's tour in Vietnam. These are the songs he remembers while spending a year over there. Listening to such songs as "The Fish Cheer", "Joe Hill", Judy Blue Eyes, etc. brought back so many memories--great album!

  3. thsi is great, it replaces my old lps
and woodstock was a kinder and saner time period
    ty again

  4. Fast service. This was a present so as far as I know, the product was in excellent condition

  5. My review is simply that this item makes a great gift for someone interested in Woodstock!

  1. You cant beat this oldies CD for the price...Not one scratch or flaw for the $4.98 I paid...GREAT deal!

  2. Pure 80's may not have all the biggest hits from the 1980s on it; but you get a whopping 20 tracks and that makes this CD a good deal. These songs bring back a lot of memories for me and that's special. These songs are well reproduced here; the quality of the sound is absolutely excellent. The artwork is good, too. I wish we had some liner notes!

The CD begins with The Buggles performing a great hit entitled "Video Killed the Radio Star." "Video Killed the Radio Star" got played so much on the radio I knew all the lyrics by heart! This tune has a fine musical arrangement that The Buggles do this one up right. In addition, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by The Eurythmics was just one of their best tunes; The Eurythmics never sounded better and that strong percussion marks the beat along with the drums. They sing this pretty well, too! I love it; and this was played in all the clubs back in the day. I don't think Wang Chung got enough true respect for their "Everybody Have Fun Tonight;" it's quite a strong number and Wang Chung really showed they had a lot of talent.

There's also the hit "One Thing Leads To Another" by The Fixx; and listen for "Something About You" by Level 42. Level 42 really shines on this tune; "Something About You" was and remains a big hit for them and they do this one with a lot of class. Culture Club got a lot of mileage from "Karma Chameleon" and they deserved every bit of the attention and airplay that they got for this tune. "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" keeps Tears For Fears squarely in the spotlight which was right where they always belonged--awesome! In addition, I really like "Higher Love" by the wonderful Steve Winwood; Steve really sings this one straight out of the ballpark and he remains a music icon to this day.

"Addicted To Love" by Robert Palmer is another song that features the talents of a very accomplished artist; you're bound to enjoy "Addicted To Love." The guitars, percussion and drums combine to form the basis of a strong musical arrangement--but wisely they never steal the show away from Robert; he stays in the spotlight and that's quite all right by me! Dexys Midnight Runners do their wonderful "Come On Eileen;" I remember hearing this on the radio and rushing out to the record store to buy the LP single of this number so I could listen anytime I wanted to hear it! The Stray Cats do a magnificent job on "Rock This Town;" they use the music to complement their vocals perfectly.

Madness plays and sings "Our House" which always makes me think of my childhood home--it's THAT good. This tune will bring back memories and Madness harmonizes really well on the chorus for this classic 80's tune! The CD even ends strong with Squeeze playing "Tempted." "Tempted" was one of their biggest hits ever and they still rank high in my book. They play this to perfection, too.

Overall, Pure 80's is a great CD that I heartily recommend to people who like music from the 1980s. Truthfully, though, it is probably best suited for the newcomer who doesn't yet have these hits in their music collection; but it could be a nice addition for the more diehard fan as well. If you truly want an in-depth look at 80's music, however, I would recommend a box set of this genre of music.

  3. My 8 yr old granddaughter said "This is Awesome"
My 7 yr old grandson said "sweet"

  4. I used to fall asleep to this album throughout my middle-school years of heartache and pop-worship. This is my favorite compilation CD. It has the 4 songs that, to me, sport a tattoo of the 80s on their foreheads: "Video Killed the Radio Star", "Everybody (Wang Chung) Tonight", "Centerfold" and the epic "Jessie's Girl".

  5. Out of the 7 Pure '80s CD's: Pure '80s #1, Pure '80s Hits, Pure '80s, More Pure '80s, Pure '80s Love, Pure '80s Rock, Pure '80s Dance, the original has the best hits of the '80s on it. The DVD series of Pure '80s is based on this 1980's music series. This is preformed by the original singers and it doesn't seem to have gay music on it. My top songs are Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This ( Eurythmics ), One Thing Leads To Another ( Fixx ), Obsession ( Animation ), Tempted ( Squeeze ). Pure '80s is a popular CD series and they have better than the others. '80s CDs that are by the countdown or starlite singers aren't the original and way worse. There are 20 songs on this and the number of songs decrease as it goes into the series. This is the first Pure '80s CD.

    Grade: A++++
