5 comments about Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968.

  1. The Sonics, The Standells, The 13th Floor Elevators, etc... -Long before the modern "The" garage rock revival (think White Stripes, Black Keys, Strokes, Hives, & their ilk), these bands rocked rowdy American youths. This collection is essential! The companion booklet was a fascinating read. I know proudly claim The Choir, The Outsiders, & The Human Beinz as fellow Buckeye staters. Think of it as the beginning of a long, strange archeological dig. Hear The Premiers' "Farmer John" today & find yourself searching out the out-of-print 45rpm tomorrow. $40 for (4) discs? Yes, please!

  2. This box set is a must for 60's garage rockers. The sections represent the era well. They are also the original recordings. a delight to have in a collection of garage rock.

  3. There have been many classic albums that I would have loved to have listened to on their release but was too young: Led Zeppelin iv, Sgt Pepper, Dark Side of the Moon (you get the idea). However, I can imagine what that may have been like when I took a punt on this box set after seeing a great review in a British music magazine. Having not really heard music from this genre/era before it was an absolute revelation to me and took me to a new level in my appreciation of rock and pop. As a teenager in the late 70s in Britain I grew up with the punk ethos of the Pistols, Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex etc... and found a similar vibe in the music on this box set. As with the other Nuggets compliations you get a real impression that this has been lovingly and painstakingly put together by people who really know the music. So as you can guess I cannot recommend this too highly. If you don't know this stuff you're in for a treat, it'll be a thoroughly welcome addition both to your collection and your musical knowledge.

  4. I first heard this collection on vynl in the early 80's and when I wanted to once again hear and now own it, I was so happy to find it on Amazon and for such a great price. The CD's the shipping everything was and is excellant

  5. The original Nuggets album was released in 1972, and was a compilation album of rock and pop songs from the mid to late '60s by groups that weren't popular enough to merit their own "greatest hits" album. The album actually proved to be very influential, drawing attention to forgotten and never known groups from the era. This four disc box set features the original album in it's entirety as Disc One, plus three other discs of similar material. Many of the songs here were hits "back in the day", usually by groups that never had another hit. There are also a number of obscure songs that were not hits at all. Most of the songs are presented in the original mono single version, although a few of them are in stereo. Most of the songs here are are great, and the few that aren't great are interesting curios. This is an essential purchase for fans of '60s rock music.

5 comments about Dazed And Confused (1993 Film).

  1. I was born in 1976, so I didn't really grow up listening to these songs. However, many of them still get heavy airplay on classic rock stations. Not one song on this album is bad. Personal favorites include "Cherry Bomb" and "Tuesday's Gone." Other solid tracks include "Low Rider," "Tush" and "Love Hurts."

If you've seen the film, you already know that it lives and dies by the music that's constantly played in it. Much like "Swingers," "Dazed And Confused" is a very good film, but the soundtrack selection makes it great.

I gave this album four stars because there are some key tunes missing (most notably "Hurricane," by Bob Dylan). Also, the classic rock vibe is broken up by "Jim Dandy," which doesn't quit fit in as well as the rest of the tunes. It's still a good song, though. This is an excellent album, and if you enjoy classic rock or grew up listening to these tunes, I'm sure you'll enjoy it (and the film). Highly recommended.

  2. Loved the CD. The music is a much fun as it was the first time I enjoyed it!

  3. I loved the movie and I love the soundtrack. Contains all those songs from the 1970s that were very "feel good". Also highly recommended is the companion CD which contains more songs that this one couldn't fit. Recommend both of them.

  4. I was looking to get the DVD of DAZED AND CONFUSED but got the CD. When it was advertised on the AMAZON website it led me to believe that it was a DVD as you see it above. (1993 Film) I had to return it and my expense. Very disappointing transaction with AMAZON. Threfore, i am not impressed.

  5. I've owned this terrific CD since waaaay back in 1993 & have lost my numerous copies purchased since then to dear friends & family who come to adore this soundtrack once they've heard it. It's full of great middle & late '70s tunes that if you were alive & aware of hit rock n roll music then, you will remember these tunes with joy & may even sing along to them too. This CD even has "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways (Joan Jett & Lita Ford's band before they went solo) which is not an easy tune to find in complitations. If you liked the non-disco & non-"AM Gold" sounds of the 70's then this is your next CD purchase! : D The tunes range from Black Sabbath's Paranoid, to Foghat's Slow Ride to the ever popular rock anthem Kiss' Rock & Roll All Night. I love this CD,when I play it the songs take me right back to being a pre-teen/teenager hanging out with the older kids in the shag-van, the smell of ganja wafting around, real rock n roll blaring from the speakers, Ditto jeans, halter tops, Friday nights at the roller skating rink & Pop-rocks! LOL

5 comments about One Hit Wonders.

  1. This is an enjoyable, eclectic trip down the road to yesteryear, but I can't really call this "mainstream." It's a soundtrack to an imaginary movie that nobody has ever made. The variety of styles take you to different places, depending on how long you've been around, but you don't have to be a certain age to appreciate this material. It really gripes me when some kid doesn't realize that Paul McCartney and George Harrison were in the same band, if they have even heard of them at all. They say things like, "...well, that's before my time..." BULL! Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry were before "my time," and I like them just fine. None of this material is new, and despite the digital age, it sounds old. But not in the bad sense. I am of the age where I remember these selections first-hand, and felt threatened when they phased out vinyl records (weren't 8-tracks a trip?); If nothing else, the tactile experience of opening the record you just bought, usually for about $5.00 ($7.00 if it were a double record), seeing a lyric sheet, sometimes a poster, promotional materials, and elaborate artwork are a thing of the past, unless you pay beaucoups bucks for a huge box-set; it's now more common than it was a few years ago, but it's just not the same.

For the most part, these selections are just what the title says it is; "One Hit Wonders." For the most part, they have all done other material, but these are what you will most likely hear on the radio (some stations specialize in "Oldies") from these people.

For the most part, they are basic feel-good songs ("Come On To My Boat," "Reach Out Of The Darkness," etc), and some silly "fluff;" it's hard to believe "Dominique" was an actual "hit." You have the obligatory novelty record, Bobby Pickett's "Monster Mash," still a staple on oldies stations, especially around Halloween, and the bizarre (but really cool) "Jungle Fever," some mellow crooning material, and a few heavy-hitters to boot. "Reflections Of My Life" is still an extremely emotional, introspective song, even this many years later...and then you have Coven's "One Tin Soldier," the reason I bought this disc. There is a better version out there somewhere, on some 70's compilation record, I will find it some day, but the one here suffices just fine; I LOVE this song. It's one of those selections that is usually accompanied with people screaming "...Turn It DOWN!..." I know, I have never grown up.

The generic packaging, and limited (not really LIMITED, I guess) format sort of knocked a star off for me, but I am not complaining. I am glad I bought this disc, and will probably get several more in this, and similar series.

    "...one tin soldier rides away..."

  2. I actually bought this cd for 'Reflections of My life' and 'Montego Bay' more than the other songs. I loved "One Tin Soldier" when it was released in 1969 by 'The Original Caste', but was unimpressed by Coven's version of it when they recorded it in 1971. I like most of the songs on this cd even if they aren't on my list of 'essentials' and am happy with my purchase.

  3. I WAS SUPRISED AT HOW FAST IT ARRIVED AND IT HAD THE SONGS I WANTED

  4. Outstanding cd.......found the song I had been looking for for a long time. Price was more than reasonable and delivery on time.

  5. This is truly a RARE collection, topped, in my opinion, by "Montego Bay" (Bobby Bloom). This may be your only chance, however, to experience such time vault sounds as "The Singing Nun". Rock on.

5 comments about Best of 70s Supergroups.

  1. The Best of 70s Supergroups is a budget priced CD that gives us an awesome fourteen tracks despite the low price. The quality of the sound is quite good.

Boston's "More Than A Feeling" opens with their great singing, electric guitars and percussion; the melody is infectiously catchy and the tune also rocks like anything! I like "More Than A Feeling" very much.

ELO's "Evil Woman" really rocks in a big way; and listen especially for Styx and their awesome, classic ballad entitled "Come sail Away." "Come Sail Away" works on many levels: the piano arrangement is quite elegant for a rockin' tune; and when the electric guitars and the singing of the main ballad comes in this number takes off like a jet! "Come Sail Away" is easily one of all time favorite rock songs ever.

"Taking Care Of Business" by Bachman Turner Overdrive is another classic hard rocking song from the 1970s; and I bet this'll make you want to jump up and start dancing wherever you are! Great guitars on "Taking Care Of Business," too. In addition, listen for Three Dog Night's soulful, rockin' ballad called "Never Been to Spain." Three Dog Night truly prove how great they were with "Never Been To Spain."

Grand Funk's "We're An American Band" is another major highlight of this album and I predict that you will enjoy this tune very much. They harmonize well and the guitars work perfectly for this number. There's also, of course, Lynyrd Skynyrd doing their incredible "Sweet Home Alabama." Lynyrd Skynyrd never sounded better and the lyrics to this song are captivating even today.

"So Into You" by Atlanta Rhythm Section sounds a bit syrupy compared to the rocking tunes on this album; but it is quite a strong number anyway. This number rocks soft and slow to make a romantic effect that really works well. The album ends with Kansas doing their major hit "Dust In The Wind." What an awesome ending for this album!

Overall, The Best Of 70s Supergroups is a great value with tons of hits on an inexpensive CD. Sure, it's not as complete as it could be--but for the price you can scarcely complain. I highly recommend this album for fans of those rockin' tunes from the `70s.

  2. I PURCHASED THIS CD FOR MY DAUGHTER, BUT I REALLY LIKE TO LISTEN TO THESE SONGS MYSELF. THERE IS A GOOD MIX OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT STYLES AND MUSICIANS HERE. FAR OUT!

  3. I'm a 70s high school grad.....if you are too, you'll really enjoy this cd......not just 'some' but ALL the selections!

  4. For the price, you can't go wrong here. However, I feel compelled to respond to the previous reviewer's challenge.

    Boston - Amanda
ELO - Don't Bring Me Down
    Styx - Lorelei
BTO - You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet
The Guess Who - Share the Land
    Rare Earth - Get Ready
    Santana - Evil Ways
Three Dog Night - Eli's Coming
Sugarloaf - Don't Call Us, We'll Call You
    Grand Funk - Locomotion
Lynyrd Skynyrd - What's Your Name
    Atlanta Rhythm Section - Spooky
Little River Band - Lonesome Loser
Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son

There, One other hit from each of those bands
    No brain damage either :)

  5. Maybe I have a one and only, but track #11 is not Sweet Home Alabama. On my disc it is Lola by The Kinks.

5 comments about Dick Bartley Presents: One Hit Wonders of the '60s, Vol. 2.

  1. It had all of the best one time wonder songs that you would want in one.

  2. This CD is not only improperly titled - Dick Bartley's Original Rock & Roll Oldies Show Presents One Hit Wonders Of The '60s, Vol. 2 - it does not contain all original hit versions. Why does Bartley keep putting out things that are misleading? Of the 12 different artists included here only The Hombres, Crazy Elephant, The Fifth Estate, and The Wildweeds were true one-hit wonders.

All the others had at least one more Billboard Pop Hot 100 hit and, in the case of The McCoys and The Soul Survivors, fairly significant other hits. The latter, for example, had a Top 40 [# 33] with Explosion In Your Soul in early 1968, and The McCoys had two - Fever [# 7 in late 1965] and Come On Let's Go [# 22 in early 1966], in addition to six other Top 100 charters. Derek also had a # 16 with Mr. Bass Man in 1963 as Johnny Cymbal [his real name], along with two other Top 100 charters. The others may not have had any more Top 40 hits, but in each case they did chart more than once.

In the rather extensive fold-our liner notes Bartley says, for The McCoys, "But what about Fever and Come On Let's Go - didn't they follow Hang On Sloopy into the Top 40? OK, technically you've got me, but we've found a unique one-of-a-kind, long-unavailable version of Hang On Sloopy that deserves inclusion here." Perhaps so, but to collectors of original hit versions this is not acceptable. Especially when there's nothing on the OUTSIDE of the package to warn you.

For The Soul Survivors he describes Expressway To Your Heart as "the group's only Top 10 hit, in the fall of 1967." So, you might say to yourself, we'll cut him some slack and allow that he's zeroing in only on Top 10 material to define "one-hit wonders." But then, of course, you realize that the hit by The Fifth Estate topped out at # 11, those by The Hombres and Crazy Elephant reached # 12 only, Robert Knight's peaked at # 13, and No Good To Cry by The Wildweeds barely made the Top 100 at # 88 - far below the threshold positions of many of the songs he doesn't consider hits. So that doesn't wash either.

Why not just call it "a random collection of 1960's hits" and leave it that - with an explanation on the reverse that they are NOT all the original hit versions? If you don't care about such things this is an OK album. But for collectors like me it's annoying to say the least.

  3. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the CD because the post office could not deliver it to me. I complained to Amazon already. I would like to re-order, but I am not sure it will arrive.

    Don Bankston
    781-492-2937

  4. Here are the obscure recordings of "Flash-in-the-Pan" artists and "hits" of us Baby Boomers! Stuff that was the temporary fodder of Casey Kasum and the "top 40' "Hit" radio stations across the United States in the '60's.

One Hit Wonders that were played over and over in their time then promptly forgotten. They were re'released in the many incarnations of "K-Tel," then forgotten again as these K-Tel records found their way to thriftshops, then landfills.

If you want to reminisce about all that "bubblegum" heard as a child, be more imaginative! Pass this one by and instead purchase The Resident's Third Reich and Roll! Only The Residents could give these "one hit wonders" the ROASTING they DESERVED!

  5. OK, I wanted "Then You Can Tell Me Goobye" by the Casinos, and here's a CD that provided it. Very nice. The rest of it? Ehhhh...., could be worse, I guess. Only real disappointment was the version of "Everlasting Love" by Robert Knight. While Knight may have been the original, Carl Carlton certainly recorded what has become the definative version of this song and Knight's pales by comparison. That's the way it works with compilations, you get the good with the bad. Glad I bought it, though!

5 comments about Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music.

  1. From all the festivals organized during the late sixties this is the best covered from them all, both on audio and image. I personally love it and I am currently looking for more information about it. My main concern is the MUSIC performed at the event either on audio and / or video.

This 1994 version is a good effort because it gives us more music performed at the event and it is chronologically more accurate than previous releases, but it is still incomplete and some artists are still lost in the archives (Blood Sweat & Tears, Bert Sommer, and The Incredible String Band).

MESSAGE FOR THE RECORD COMPANY: ¡¡ Please release a definitive edition and save us some money !!

The booklet included in this box gives a lot of information and a string of photographs. Nevertheless I do not like it. That sort of archival look is definitely not for me I wish it had included more photos with better definition and graphics that actually can be read. (Is there any other shot of Johnny Winter performing at Woodstock rather than the one of Elliot Landy?)

    Song by song analysis:

    Disc: 1
    1. Handsome Johnny - 2. Freedom - Richie Havens
OK: first day (the acoustic day) and first artist. Havens performed at least 8 songs and he even created Freedom at Woodstock

(OMMITED: Swami Satchidananda appearance on the stage. He is only seen on the film)

    3. The 'Fish' Cheer/I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag - Country Joe McDonald
OK: day one and second artist. He performed at least 5 songs

    4. Rainbows All Over Your Blues - 5. I Had a Dream - John B. Sebastian
OK: day one and the third artist to appear. His full set is on "Faithful Virtue" CD on RHINO Recs.

(OMMITED: Sweetwater, the first band ever to appear at Woodstock. They performed at least 8 songs. Only one of them was released on a RHINO label compilation of the band)
(OMMITED: Bert Sommer. His manager was co - organizer of the Festival Artie Kornfeld and he performed 10 songs one of them (Jennifer) is shown on Woodstock Diary DVD. Another song (America) can be listened in Bert's site on Internet).

    6. If I Were a Carpenter - Tim Hardin
We are still on day one and the only song officially available from his one hour set.

(OMMITED: Ravi Shankar. He briefly appears on Woodstock Diary DVD. His full set was available on both vinyl records and CD. He actually performed in the pouring rain)

    7. Beautiful People - Melanie
She jumped on stage instead of Incredible String Band because their manager Joe Boyd didn't allow them to perform while raining. Her entire set of three songs is officially available.

    8. Coming into Los Angeles - 9. Walking Down the Line - Arlo Guthrie
Apparently he performed 4 songs. The complete live version of "Coming..." has not been released

    10. Joe Hill - 11. Sweet Sir Galahad - 12. Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man - Joan Baez

Joan headlined day one and she performed 8 songs.

(OMMITED: Quill. This is day two (progressive - psychedelic rock day) / first artist to appear. They are shown briefly on Woodstock Diary DVD. Their full set is unavailable)

    13. Soul Sacrifice - Santana
This is day two 2 PM. Santana full performance is available on the CD re issue of their first album

(OMMITED: Keef Hartley Band. They performed at least 6 songs all of them unavailable).

    14. Blood of the Sun - 15. Theme For An Imaginary Western - Mountain
They are in the wrong order. They performed 13 songs after Canned Heat. L. West has released the band performance at Woodstock. It is said that "Theme..." was not performed at Woodstock.

    Disc: 2
    1. Leaving this Town - 2. Going up The Country - Canned Heat
Four songs set. Woodstock Boogie is a long and strong track lost in the archives

    3. Commotion - 4. Green River - 5. 99 And A Half (Won't Do) - 6. I Put A Spell On You - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Part of their 11 songs set. It's said that John Fogerty didn't allow any CCR stuff be released.

(OMMITED: Grateful Dead. They performed at least 4 songs all of them officially unavailable)

    7. Try - 8. Work Me Lord - 9. Ball & Chain - Janis Joplin
Part of her 10 songs set including two encores.

    10. Medley: Dance To the Music/Music Lover/I Want To Take You Higher - Sly & the Family Stone
This set is Incomplete and edited. They performed over 50 minutes.

    11. We're Not Gonna Take It - The Who
4 AM: a strong performance of 25 songs (not been officially released) reduced to a couple of tunes.

    Disc: 3
    1. Volunteers - 2. Somebody to Love - 3. Saturday Afternoon/Won't You Try - 4. Uncle Sam Blues - 5. White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
6 AM on day three. Almost complete set. One track "Plastic Fantastic Lover" is also available.

    6. Let's Go Get Stoned - 7. With A Little Help from My Friends - Joe Cocker
2 PM on day three. Part of his 9 songs set with the Grease Band. It is said the Grease Band performed a couple of numbers without Joe.

(OMMITED: The BIG storm. The complete performance won't be released)

    8. Rock & Soul Music - Country Joe & the Fish
They were the first band that jumped on the dangerously wet stage after the storm.

    9. I'm going Home - Ten Years After
Not even Alvin Lee knows exactly what they actually performed. They did 5 long numbers. Drums for this tack were recorded later under the supervision of Alvin Lee.

    10. Long Black Veil - 11. Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever - 12. The Weight - Band
They performed at least 11 songs.

(OMMITED: Blood Sweat and Tears. They performed at least 5 songs all of them unavailable except for the one shown on VHS - Laserdisc "Woodstock: the Lost Performances")

    13. Mean Town Blues - Johnny Winter
This is the only known track from his 9 songs performance

    Disc: 4
    1. Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - 2. Guinevere - 3. Marrakesh Express - 4. 4 + 20 - 5. Sea Of Madness - 6. Find the Cost of Freedom - Crosby Stills Nash
Their set was 10 songs for the acoustic set and 8 for the electric set.

    7. Love March - Paul Butterfeild Blues Band
This is day four at 5 - 6 AM. Only two tracks from 5 songs set are available.

    8. At The Hop - Sha Na Na
    A long and endless 8 - 9 songs set.

    9. Voodoo Chile / Stepping Stone - 10. Star Spangled Banner - 11. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
This man really hooked me on a new audio dimension. Only 2 tracks have not been officially released "(Call me) Mastermind" and "Gipsy Woman" both with Larry Lee on vocals.

  2. This product arrived timely and appears as advertised. I have not seen the contents as it is a Christmas present but am assuming that it is in brand new shape which is how I bought it. It is still in plastic packaging which leads me to believe it is brand new.

  3. Well the Peace and Love generation has finally left us the FULL legistration of that Magical late 60's era.Mud and all! 5 comments about Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin.

  1. Whoever decided that it would be good to get together musicians like Stone Temple Pilots and Helmet and get them to do Ledzep tributes surely deserves a medal - this is awesome stuff. As a Blind Melon fan starved of new input I was a willing sucker, but it was surprising to be so blown away by Zep tributes by Linda Perry, Hootie and the Blowfish and the rest. If you love rock music there's something here for you - if you love LedZep you'll appreciate the respect in each and every of these stunning tributes.

  2. I'm a Zep fan for 30 years now, still listening to the Zep classics. This disk is one of my favorites as it breathes new life into Zep's old art. Sheryl Crowe's funky interpretation of D'yer Mak'er is particularly good. Fortunately, these artists stayed away from Zep's best known material (although Heart did a great job with Rock'n Roll years ago).

  3. Encomium:Tribute to Led Zeppelin.

Out of the gate, I'll say my personal favorite here is STP's Dancing Days. The whole understated vibe of it worked. It honors the vibe and feel of the original while STP puts thier subtle stamp on it. Overall, a very cool cover. It reaffirms my belief that STP is one of the most underappreciated 90s rock bands.

Being a big fan of Zep, its nice to see some bands taking the music in a whole different place. Sheryl Crow not my favorite artists by anymeans does a interesting job with D'yer Mak'er. She makes it more poppy, but keeps it interesting. This does have its limits. Tori Amos along with Plant doing "Down By the Seaside" just didn't work for me. Its just too far removed from the original to be recognizable to me.

Others who put on reasonable performances are Hootie and the Blowfish, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Duran Duran and Cracker.

The stinkers of the album are the Rollin's band stuff, Helmet and Never the Bride. Henry Rollin's screaming style and David Yow, just don't compliment the material. Its my belief when doing a cover try to compliment it.

As to the song selection it isn't too bad. The cliche's are avoided ala Rock and Roll or Stairway. You see some interesting choices like Custard Pie and Four Sticks. I would've loved to see someone try to have tackled In the Evening.

Overall, for what it is its interesting. Shows the creativity of the artists taking the material and putting thier spin on it. That equals some good times and bad times.

  4. I lost this CD a few months ago, but I used to listen to it occasionally. Most of the songs on this disc are very good, but for my money, the best track on here is "Thank You" performed by Duran Duran. I really don't like Duran Duran so I was pretty surprised by that. Most of the other tracks are good too. If you like Zep, this is definately a disc to check out if you are looking for something different.

  5. Led Zeppelin really is one of the greatest legendary band in the world. They sold more albums than The Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson combined. They even have two of the biggest selling albums of all time. On this compliation popular names like Duran Duran, Sheryl Crow and Hootie & The Blowfish cover very popular Zep tunes. However nobody has done a cover od Zepplin's most popular tune Stairway to Heaven.

  1. So, as far as being fourteen goes, I think everyone owes it to themselves to pick up the ORIGINAL Dazed and Confused soundtrack, because it is without a doubt essential listening. If you are a fan of the first, then you will probably want this one, as a companion to the first, and a way to stretch out what comes out the boombox, while you slug a few of the beers you stole from your parents fridge out behind the local town moon tower.

I don't like it as much as the first volume, and always thought that maybe the title should have been... "A little Less Dazed And Confused..." but thats only because it has less songs, and two of them are Peter Frampton songs... back to back?!

I still give it five stars though. Mix it up with volume one, ...perhaps find your own copy of Sweet Emotion and Dylans Hurricane, and you can have yourself a sweet bender, maaan. Plus, this disc still learned me a nice handful of gems just like the first one did... would I have ever rocked out to the following without my Even More Dazed soundtrack?...FREE RIDE, LIVING IN THE USA, BALINESE,RIGHT PLACE WRONG TIME, Foghat's MAKE LOVE TO YOU!!!(smokes!), plus the other stuff is good too.., but basically its the leftovers that didn't fit on the first disc, and the label still couldn't clear the rights with Aerosmith or Dylan. That shouldn't matter much though.
I hope that theres a new crop of Freshman chicks rocking out to this stuff this summer man. You- know- I- do, man. ROCK

  2. If you loved the Dazed and Confused soundtrack, you'll love this one too. It contains all those songs that they couldn't fit on the first soundtrack. Great CD.

  3. This soundtrack is absolutly amazing...
I just have one question abou it...
Where is "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan?

  4. I actually like this one better than the first release. It's a great, eclectic mix of FM radio hits from the golden age of FM radio. (I was 15 in the summer of 1976, so maybe I'm a little biased.)

All of these songs were part of the soundtrack of my life, played at suburban basement make-out parties and blasted from the windows of gas-guzzling old American cars. How I wished I could have grown a mustache like the ones sported by Foghat!

  5. "Dazed and Confused" is a film that unfortunately bombed at the box office when it was in theatres. Fortunately, it has since become a cult classic, and one of the definitive "party" flicks. It helped jump start the careers of the film's soon-to-be stars, such as: Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Matthew McConaughey, Rory Cochrane, Jason London, and Milla Jovovich, to name a few. I first saw "Dazed" when I was 15. I heard how great of a film it was, so of course I decided to check it out. By the end of my first viewing, I was hooked. I became obsessed with the movie, and have seen it so many times that I've lost count, and it's still fresh and hilarious with every viewing (which is rare for a film)! It has become one of my favorite movies of all time, as well.

Anyway, just like the film's first soundtrack (simply titled "Dazed And Confused"), this soundtrack has excellent songs, but to me, the standouts are: "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Alice Cooper (awesome hard rocker, which is excellently used in the film), "Do You Feel Like We Do?" by Peter Frampton (an awesome rocker that features the infamous "talkbox"), "I Just Want To Make Love To You" by Foghat (a cool rocker that you'll want to bang your head to), and "Free Ride" by The Edgar Winter Group (definitely a song to crank while cruising with your friends). As I said in my review for the film's other soundtrack, the film's opening track, "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith, and Bob Dylan's "Hurricane" are nowhere to be found on either of the film's soundtracks.

  1. WE REALLY LIKE THE VARIETY OF THE SONGS AND ARTISTS ON THIS CD. WE BOUGHT IT TOGETHER WITH "THE BEST OF THE 70'S SUPERGROUPS". THERE WERE ONLY A FEW SONGS DUPLICATED ON THESE TWO CD'S, BUT OVERALL WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE SONGS ON BOTH OF THESE CD'S.

  2. The Cd was just what I was looking for. It came brand new and right on time.

  3. The music is great. Unfortunately the last two songs will not play in my car CD player. I've had this problem before with low quality CD's. It plays fine on my home stereo.

  4. I love this CD. It has all of the best music from the 70's. I am so glad I added it to my collection.

  5. If there's one thing harder to do than narrow down the 80's to one disc, it's doing that to the 70's. The truth is this collection could have had 400 different songs on it. Why these made the cut, who knows. I'll agree that most of these would be considered classic, but I think the average person is gonna already own a third of this disc, not care about a third, and be sick of the other third. I guess if you kept your CD collection under 20 discs, then this might do the trick. Good for a party, sure. Overall though, I'd probably just get an album from Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, or The Eagles. Where are they?

  1. Pretty boring stuff, except for the Springsteen track, which saves the day. Most of the artist featured on this album have concert albums that are far superior to the material found on this album.

If you believe in the cause, are looking at this album as a historical document, or dig Springsteen's version of the Ryder medley, buy this album. If not, save your money.

  2. Thank you, I got my item on time & I love it, it brought back many memories!!!!

  3. Given the state of the Earth today, the sentiments of many of these songs are still current. This is an amazing collection of artists and songs - no matter how old you are!

  4. I really liked this when it came ut on vinyl, but in retrospect, it was the cause, not the music. B. Raitt is grand, G Nash with an excellant Cathedral, J C Young, and the highlight to me We Almost Lost Detroit by the great Gil Scott-Heron. But the second disc is second rate. Edit the filler and it rates higher.

  5. As a child of the 70's who grew up in a very "no nukes" home this album was on the turn table every night. What a great find for me all these years later as I start my own family. "Power" is one of the nicest, smoothest, most heartwarming songs every performed.

The geniune love, care and respect these artists had for each other and mostly the earth and it's future generations pours through on every note.
