3 comments about Baroque: The Greatest Hits.

  1. This is my second purchase of the CD - the first one got scratched. I usually have the music on in the background when I am at my computer. I also use it for background music when working with high school mathematics students in schools. I love it.

  2. If you're a serious classical collector, this is a must have. Of course, even if you don't like classical but want to give it a try, this is also for you. The Baroque period was an important time in the development of music. Before Baroque, music carried only one melody or rhythim. With the arrival of the Baroque Guys: Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, music was able to have two rhythms go on at the same time. Without it, modern music would'nt exist. The music you will hear in this cd may be a bit slow but it is still very good. Oh, and may I add that the cover and the cd itself looks really classy, having a shiny jade color that makes it look like it costs a million dollars. The sound quality is very good and rich-sounding. Hey- the "Masterpiece Theatre" theme is here. I've always wanted it. It's track #1 called a "Rondeau" by Mouret. The Hallelujah choir is to be commended and the trumpet concertos, organ music and violin and string pieces are equally impressive. Some of the works are very familiar. In fact, listening to it, I recalled having listened to them before. This is great music to hear while doing assignments or reading. It has the "college" feel to it. I don't know. Maybe because in the movies you hear those trumpet tunes play whenever they show a university . Anyways, it's great.

  3. Every track in this CD is very famous and well known. I love it

2 comments about Streams.

  1. "Streams" is a collection of songs of a more appropriate for medidation instead rather than upbeat praise.

The collection contains 14 songs of which in my humble opinion, the first 7 are much better than the last 7. Songs such as: Don't Give Up, Breathe, Sanctuary, Hold On, The Only Thing I Need, Find Me in the River, I Will Rest in You are deeply moving while the other songs did not do as much for me.

Despite this, I highly recommend the cd. Buy and enjoy!

  2. This is a wonderful album - albeit one with a couple of weak tracks. Jaci Velasquez' "I Will Rest In You" is probably the best song she's ever recorded (musically AND lyrically) and features her most nuanced performance. Likewise, Michelle Tumes, Delirious? (with Amy Grant providing harmony vocals) Burlap to Cashmere and Chris Rodriguez turn in dynamite tracks, each of which gets better on repeat listening. The instrumental/orchestral tracks at the end are also beautiful and soothing.

Unfortunately, the CD plays like a sampler, with nearly every major/developing Word Records artist getting a song. This works against the album, especially given the weak contributions by Point of Grace and 4HIM (and given the glaring absence of Sandi Patty, whose voice and style would have fit right in with this project). It also means that the album is less thematically unified than Word's last mega-project, "My Utmost For His Highest" (also based on a popular devotional). Still, any one of the good moments on this CD is worth the purchase price. For these moments, I highly recommend it.

1 comments about 20 Best of Hymns and Praise.

  1. As best I can tell, Madacy first released the 3-CD box set entitled "100 Best Loved Hymns" in 2001, featuring various artists performing traditional classics. Since then, those same 100 tracks -- same singers, same musicians, same arrangements -- have been mixed and matched into so many other CDs that I keep uncovering them. Some or all of these original tracks have been used in different combinations to produce: "100 Hymns and Praise Classics" (4-CD box set), attributed to 'Various Artists'; "50 Hymns & Praise Favorites" (2-CD set), "50 Hymns & Praises" (3 CDs), and "20 Best of Hymns and Praise", attributed to the Joslin Grove Choral Society; "A Treasury of Golden Hymns" and "50 Amazing Hymns", attributed to the Great Plains Chorale; and "Inspirations: 50 Best Loved Hymns", disingenuously attributed to Thomas Kinkade solely because he provided the cover art. All of these CDs are posted separately on the Amazon site.

The Joslin Grove CD being offered in this posting contains only 20 of these 100 tracks. The 3- and 4-CD sets containing the full 100 tracks can be purchased for not much more money than this single CD on Amazon Marketplace. Thus, it makes sense to shop around for one of those 100-track sets (e.g., "100 Best Loved Hymns") before buying this smaller collection.

Regarding the content of this oft-released, multi-titled, multi-attributed collection of tracks, the hymns are sung in traditional arrangements, often with a full choir accompanied by a piano or organ. Some are by soloists or smaller groups of singers, accompanied by a piano. If you're looking for a solid traditional presentation of these classics, you will probably not be disappointed. I give the music 4 stars rather than 5 because some of this choral group's soloists on some tracks -- while good singers -- have voices that are perhaps not sufficiently smooth and mellow to allow them to come across well as soloists on a recording.

3 comments about Absolute Smash Hits.

  1. This CD-set was overall pretty good! It's kind of like an imitation WOW except with not as good song selection. The booklet is also very small with no pictures like WOW has. It only lists all the songs, artists, year/album it's from, etc. Actually I shouldn't complain that much because it DOES have my absolute favorite song ever that's not on any WOW - All About You by Nate Sallie. I also like Hero by Superchic[k]. So it's a good CD, but if you want a really good "various artist" 2-disc CD set - I would rather recommend getting a WOW (WOW 2005 is the best one), but you should still get this one once you're done collecting the WOWs! It's fun to listen to, and it's a nice set! :-D

  2. Absolute Smash Hits provides a good introduction to a variety of Christian artists. Covering material from 1998-2004, it features an assortment of pop, rock, r&B and hip-hop designed to glorify God. I was also pleased to discover some artists I was previously not too familiar with like Exit East. Among the highlights on this 2-disc package are Ginny Owens' "I Am", Shaun Groves's "Should I Tell Them", Exit East's "With You", and Palisade's "Coming Back Again". Both enjoyable and uplifting.

  3. This two CD pack (25 tracks total) is a MUST HAVE, with the variety of current hits and the bonus tracks of exciting upcoming groups, like Broken Frame ("I Can Tell") on track 13.

4 comments about Victory In Jesus: 32 Favorite Hymns & Gospel Songs.

  1. I like this one. The songs are great and they have rhythm section on a lot of the songs. Even if it's just a bass and soft drums, they tighten up the songs and prevent them from dragging on and on.

Some of the singers are just OK and the orchestrations are very commercial sounding and you can tell that this CD was probably made in section (overdub rather than a big live session).

But the choir is nice and overall I am very satisfied with the product!

  2. This is one of the best CD's I own of traditional gospel songs & hymns, which are sung beautifully and with deep devotion and spirit. I only wish this group had another CD. I would certainly buy it. If anyone finds another gospel CD like this one, please let me know. ...

  3. I wish I could write about it IF I HAD A CHANCE TO LISTEN TO IT. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO BUY YOUR CD'S WHEN ONE CANNOT LISTEN TO IT ON LINE. IF ONE CAN, IT MUST BE SO WELL HIDDEN THAT IT WILL TAKE AN EXPERT TO FIGURE IT OUT. RIDICULOUS. THAT'S WHAT I HAVE TO SAY.

  4. B.R. Hearn. wonderful music glorifying God. too bad some songs have just an excerpt of a chorus--no stanzas. otherwise i would have given it five stars.
