5 comments about For Our Children: 10th Anniversary Edition.

  1. I bought the original ten years ago and was disappointed when the cassette broke while playing. This is a fun CD for kids and adults alike. It is great to hear the stars sing our favorite childhood songs!

  2. My family grew up with these songs, we have gone through multiple copies as they have been well worn & misplaced as we took them everywhere. I am so excited to find that there is an edition still availble as I raise my kids for them to fall in love with all the music from my childhood heart. I have sung more songs to them from off of this album than from anywhere else. I can't recommend this highly enough.

  3. Our son enjoys this and so do I. Some of the slow songs are a drag, but all in all it is great for kids.

  4. My daughter and I adore this CD! We would sing along to it where ever we went! Our favorite is Blueberry Pie by Bette Middler. The CD finally got way too scratched up to play so we have not had the pleasure of hearing it for over a year. :( Emily is 7 now and still asks me to please put on her favorite CD. Now that I have found it again, she will be so happy.

  5. "For Our Children" was always a tape we had around when I was a child. I used to listen to it every night before I went to sleep, and find myself singing the songs from it to this day. My favorites are James Taylor's "Getting to Know You" from "The King and I", and Sting's "Cushie Butterfield". This album is wonderful because the music is actually good enough for parents to enjoy as well. It's basically a good compilation album that just happens to be completely child-safe.

1 comments about 100 Favourite Nursery Rhymes & Songs.

  1. The rhymes are spoken in a monotonous manner. Had they mixed things up a bit and used different people, it would have at least been more interesting, instead it gets old fast. Children have a short attention span, so monotony was not the best idea.

The rhymes are not individually accessible, there are two tracks with 50 rhymes each, so no skipping to favorites.

3 comments about Singing Science: Tickle Tune Typhoon.

  1. This is a great cd. We listened to it on a very long road trip and never got tired of it. My nine year old son likes the songs because they have a lot of factual information in them. My younger children like them because the music is fun. As a parent, I liked this cd because it makes learning fun.

  2. My family and I love this CD and have been listening to it for years (my children are now 4 and 6)!! The songs on this CD are a great introduction to science for little kids, pre-school or elementary school age. The songs are mostly set to common tunes and are catchy so the kids can remember and sing along with them. I believe any introduction to science at a young age, even if it is quoting factual data, will give kids a better understanding in later years. This CD also takes the mystery out of science a little bit and gets kids thinking about what is going on around them.
I love giving these CD's for birthday presents to my children's friends! I highly recommend this CD!

  3. This unusual recording is a collection of scientific facts set to music. Some of the music is original, but many songs are set to familiar tunes, including Home on the Range (now Home on the Sea), I Am An Insect sung to the tune of BINGO and Ecology to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel!

My 6- and 9-year-old sons love this recording and ask for it frequently. Most of the songs are upbeat, lively and fun, not to mention informative. But as a parent, I don't like the way the writers have taken liberties with rhyme and syllable emphasis to fit the lyrics into the tunes. And they have also sometimes taken liberties with scientific accuracy in order to make the song "work", such as when they sing about "amoebian families". These songs also seem to be particularly likely to get stuck in my head, much to my chagrin.

The scientific emphasis of this collection is heavy on Biology, with a little Ecology, Astronomy, and Chemistry and others thrown in.

The CD comes with complete lyrics to all 31 songs, which is good because they are sometimes a little complicated and difficult to hear correctly when sung.

This CD teaches a lot of what I call Science Trivia. It is undoubtedly impressive when my 9-year-old recites the chemical formulas for sugar or aspirin, identifies the phylum to which sponges belong, and explains that "annelida reproduce as hermaphrodites" (which simply means that earthworms and their cousins have both male and female parts in one organism, and are therefore able to reproduce without the need of a partner), or my 6-year-old recites the body parts of an insect, identifies the study of fish as icthyology or explains how to say "yes" in several different languages. However, as cute as it is, real science learning is much more about understanding than it is about memorizing facts. Still, this CD can jump-start discussions on several scientific topics, if you and your children are so inclined.

  1. my kids and i have always loved this cd. we have all of the radio disney cds in our collection. but this is our favorite. we just the think the songs are so much fun for the kids as well as the adults. it brings back a lot of memories. so when our original cd got scratched, we were all disappointed. because you can't find this cd in the stores any more. but thanks to amamzon.com we were able to replace it at a reasonable price. now we are all happy again.

  2. I love the music on this CD because it takes popular music and makes it suitable for children... a very fun and festive selection of songs! Kids love it too!

  3. The track listing on here is fairly good, with Steve Vai, James Brown, and many other popular performers (hopefully after hearing these musicians, my nieces will begin to find less worthy children's "music" such as Kidz Bop as musically tedious and unsatisfying as the rest of my family does, and I admit that, even as a 27 year old woman I have recently found myself tuning into Radio Disney (to become familiar with and "hip to" what my nieces like and listen and actually enjoying much of what I hear. Much of what is on this CD and channel appeals to adults and children alike, making them so much better than so much other "family" music. I recommend this to anyone who has kids in their lives, as this music remains totally appropriate, but is not watered-down "kiddie" music that talks down musically to your kids.

  4. I work in a before and after school progream and we own all the the Radio Disney Cd's. My 1st - 5th graders love it. They know the songs from radio and the disney channel, and I don't have to worry about inappropriate lyrics.

  5. in my opinion this is the best cd radio disney put out. there are a few songs that i could do without but the majority of them are great. the kids love it and the parents enjoy it also. nice up beat songs that will get you and the kids moving! ENJOY!

3 comments about Zip-a-dee Doo-dah.

  1. I love Disney tunes and as a former band nerd, I love big band sound so this CD is the perfect mix. The collection of songs are "classic" Disney but they are all favorites. This is a calming, soothing CD and worth every penny.

  2. For anyone who enjoys big bands and mellow vocalists, or the pure and simple joy of a Disney tune, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is guaranteed to lift your spirits. This album enjoys an all-star line up including Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day and Benny Goodman, performing stellar hits like "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah", while sneaking in fantastic songs from the movies you can't find anywhere else like "Sooner or Later" and the sentimental lullaby "Baby Mine". There are also a few songs that are just pure fun like "Never Smile at a Crocodile" and "The Un-Birthday Song". And the arrangements of the songs are fresh and fun, without losing the charm of the tunes as heard in the movies. One of the greatest aspects of this album is that it appeals to (and is appropriate for) young and old alike. It's a great way to introduce your kids (who already know many of the songs) to the artists of a by-gone era. A great album for the road!! Wonderful Feeling... Wonderful Day!!

3 comments about Papa's Lullaby.

  1. At first I thought it was unusual for men to be singing lullabys. However, like all of the Ellipsis Arts Lullaby CD's this one is outstanding!! The tracks are from all over the world, including Italy, Denmark, Greece, Sicily and Argentina. What a production!!

  2. This CD was a shower gift and it is so special to us. I play it for our son every time he goes down to sleep. The insert contains the lyrics in both the native languages and English. I can't get through reading the words to the opening track, Piccolo Girasol, without losing it. It makes you really understand how universal a father's love is for his children. I can't wait to hear Mama's Lullaby. I'm sure it's as touching as this sweet CD. It's also nice to know that your children are listening to sounds in other languages, which can only help their language development.

  3. i have nearly all of the lullaby cd's from ellipsis arts and can't recommend them highly enough. however this was a special fathers day present from me to my son, and i (er...we!) love it! all the songs carry the weight of the love of a father like a wonderful down comforter ready to wrap your child up and send them confidently and peacefully to sleep. do i have a favorite...yes, every track! the whole cd is truly an excellent buy.

5 comments about Lullabies For Little Dreamers : Soft Rock Classics From Your Favorite Stars.

  1. I bought this cd for my first son, now 5 and used to sing quite a few of the songs regularly, especially Dream a little Dream. Once I read the lyrics to Songbird I thought how perfect, thats exactly how I feel about my children, I sang along often with son # 2. I am now looking forward to sharing the songs with my daughter due in November! I highly recommend it, especailly for those of us who grew up listening to alot of these artists!!

    Happy singing and swaying!!

  2. Overall, this is a really great album. There are a few tracks that stink. But Wonderful Baby, First Snow in Kokomo and Waterwheel are the most wonderful songs. I listen to this album while nursing because the songs are adult-oriented but not necessarily for putting a baby to sleep. The lyrics are also included for those of us who like to sing along.

All-in-all, this album is worth buying for five or six of the songs.

  3. I bought this based on the other reviews, but I was really disappointed. The pace of the sandman song is way too peppy to use this as a bedtime cd. Also, who knew Richard Carpenter had a LISP? It sounds like a parody. This is sitting on our shelf, unplayed. Check out the other lullaby collections, but give this one a miss.

  4. This CD was the very first one that my daughter, now 2, was exposed to and she and I loved it. Just pick your child up and swing around the floor to the songs. Lovely!

  5. I work in the Infant Room at a Daycare center and this is one of the few CD's that I can stand to listen to, especially for during naptime. The songs are classic are good for humming along to, plus I can listen to it over and over on repeat and I never get sick of it. I listen to this CD at least 3-4 times during a work day. The kids seem to like it too.

5 comments about Hand in Hand (Songs of Parenthood).

  1. I bought this years ago when my kids were young, but still love it. How wonderful and rare to find a collection of songs about parenthood. You get a sense of connectedness with these great artists as they sing songs of their experiences as parents. John Lennon's love and adoration for his son in Beautiful Boy, Joni Mitchell's bitter-sweet story of children growing up in Circle Game, and my favourite, Marc Cohn's reality check with The Things We've Handed Down. They all really hit home, it's a beautiful CD.

  2. This is one of my VERY favorite albums. I had given it to a family member to borrow, and couldn't wait to get it back, so I had to buy another copy :) The song choices are great and I can't wait to play it for my child when it arrives in November.

  3. I keep this tape in my car, must have played it 300 times, and "Sunshine" never fails to bring me to tears (I was my Mom's Sunshine). All the songs and all the artists are superb. I am ordering it on CDs for myself and my two children and their children because every parent and child needs this heart music.

  4. We bought this album for my daughter because I was getting tired of singing the full version of "Circle Game" before bed every night. She loves this CD so much that she has listened to it every night and every naptime for almost a year. Last night, our CD started skipping during "Beautiful Boy" and my daughter was very upset, so now I have to buy her a new one. Definitely a good one for anybody's music collection.

  5. Bought this because my six-year-old son and I sing Beautiful Boy together, but what a wonderful treasure trove of lovely music!! We listen to this in the car; I listen to it all the time, even without my son. Planning on giving this to all of the new parents I know and to some who are already parents. I find my self smiling and in a good mood when I listen to this. It's beautiful.
