3 comments about Build your baby's brain through the power of Mozart: Brain 2.

  1. This cd is great because unlike other classical music cds made for babies, this one even adults can enjoy. Sometimes they change the song so that it sounds more like something a baby will appeal too, but this one just keeps the original song format which means even people without babies would be able to enjoy some of Mozart's classics.

  2. This is a fantastic CD of beautiful music. It is uplifting and soothing at the same time. I have several good classic music compilations CDs, but this is my favorite and the one that gets played daily! When the littlest one is napping, it goes on. When I'm cooking, it goes on. When we have the TV off and the kids are playing games or making puzzles, it is on! It stays in my kitchen CD player so at a touch of a button, lovely music can fill the house.

Check out the samples above (my [...] especially likes #5, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). It is not "children's music," a disc of lullabies, or something to reserve for baby shower gifts. I cannot say enough good things about this disc! This is great music that makes you feel good - if it is building our brains too, all the better! Try it and enjoy :)

  3. I am a true fan of Classical music and this was purchased as a gift for a co-worker who is adopting a child from China. Therefore I did not open it nor listen to it. The recipient is now overseas picking up their daughter so I know they haven't had the opportunity to listen to it. I think it's a great idea, though.

2 comments about Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Björk.

  1. I purchased this album and The Cure version as well. This is a great album, I liken it to Frosti style track on Vespertine. I played it in the car when I received it and I felt like curling up to sleep.

My daughter falls right out when I play it for her. The only unfortunate thing is that she will wake up when it stops playing.

  2. Only get this cd if you are truly a Bjork fan and can appreciate the lullaby renditions of her music. A FAVORITE, "Come to Me" (a lullaby Bjork wrote for her own son) is gorgeously done as well as "Unravel." My 3 month old loves it!! He has been listening to Bjork before this cd, but he obviously connects better with this style/sound of music for now. Now if they can only get death cab for cutie.....

5 comments about Mediterranean Lullaby.

  1. While this collection is certainly a passable lullaby CD (the songs are soothing and gentle), the Mediterranean aspect of the disc is overplayed.

First, the style of the songs is only faintly Mediterranean. The instrumentation and arrangements are very Western. This makes the CD palatable to Americn ears, but it is not remotely authentic. This failing may stem in part from the fact that many of the artists live in the United States instead of the country the represent on the CD. In any event, very few babies in Mediterranean countries are rocked to sleep with tunes like these.

Second, the vast majority of the tracks represent Europe (Spain, France, and Italy). Asia minor, the Middle East, and North Africa barely factor into the collection. The Euro-centricity of the album is not problematic per se, but will disappoint parents who are seeking an alternative from the popular (and often superior) American and Celtic lullaby CDs.

Overall the CD is not a disaster, but it does come up decidedly short of its billing.

  2. The editorial reviews underline the gentleness of this cd, and that point cannot be overemphasized; too many so called lullaby cd's are really rousing happy versions of children's songs. But this music is wonderful, reflective, and very rooted in Mediterranean cultures. I feel as though grandmothers and grandfathers from each village are crooning their beautiful emotional songs to me & baby. This is the cd I put on every single night for the past 4 months while I breastfeed my baby to sleep. In the beginning, I would get so emotionally drawn into the music (combined with post-partum emotionality) that I would cry through the songs - especially tracks 5, 7 and 9; so beautiful! The liner notes make it easy to sing the syllables to these foreign languages. I'd say only one song approaches a slightly rousing lilting quality, but it's track 3, early on the cd, and it's still gently sung. I don't care much for track 10, the womens' voices are a little too shrill for my taste. The guitar pieces are all lovely. There's a sweet 'au clair de la lune' with the singer's young daughter providing a cute whispery high soprano. Two tracks are sung by male vocalists and are very droning and sleep inducing, I imagine the grandfathers softly crooning in old rocking chairs. It's really a cd you can float into, and away towards slumber.

  3. I bought this CD for my daughter to help her relax when I lay her down. And so far it has done the job. I especially like the mix of music from around the mediterranean, the songs come from a variety of countries including Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Lebanon, Israel, and Catalonia. All the songs are beautiful and calming. Basically a wonderful CD.

  4. This is a wonderful CD, my baby enjoys it as much as I do. The songs are soothing and melodic. The selection of songs from countries around the Meditterranean is great. I memorised some of them even though I don't know the language, I sing them to my little one when we are not home or simply when I want a peaceful and intimate moment with her. I recommend this CD very much.

  5. I'm so glad I registered for this CD! Its SO beautiful!

4 comments about Baby's First: Nursery Rhymes.

  1. I bought this item because my son loves to be sung to and I was running out of songs! He is only 4 months old and loved this CD, I would sing along with it and he would smile from ear to ear. The CD is titled Baby's First Nursery Rhymes but the songs are great for all ages. I loved it too! Plus you can't beat the price.

  2. I purchased this CD with a collection of other Baby's First and my twins absolutely LOVE the music. I purchased them when they were 9 months old and now at 1 year, they still start bouncing up and down when we play them. It always works when they start to get fussy--especially in the car on long road trips. Mom and Dad enjoy singing a long.

  3. Both my children enjoy this CD so much. Whenever there tried and craby I just put this CD on and they both get so happy. I
highly recommend this CD to parents who are in the car often.

  4. Being a strict purist when it comes to the classic nursery rhymes, I was very disappointed when I listened to this CD. Not only do none of the songs sound like the original nursery rhymes, they all sound the same. Sadly, I found that the tune the artist chose became irritating after a few songs. Additionally, the songs do not blend well together. They come to abrupt end and then there is a brief pause or break in between each number. If you really want your child to learn nursery rhymes, you may prefer to order Baby Genius's Favorite Nursery Rhymes, (which maintains the purity of the original) or Bananas in Pajamas, It's Singing Time, A Collection of Nursery Rhymes (which incorporates some fun while teaching the nursery rhymes.)

5 comments about A Child's Celebration of Soul.

  1. All of these songs are good but half of them are out in left field as far as being choice picks for kids. Taj Mahal is an obscure choice compared to the better known and much more tuneful Tops and Temptations and they put 2 Taj Mahal songs on the CD! Why not pick My Girl by the Temptations which is an excellent choice for a children's song--simple beautiful, singable lyrics. Otis Redding's Dock of the Bay is a far better choice than Chain Gang and why not choose some music by Martha Reeves, like, how about Nowhere To Run--kids can really relate to the lyrics in that song. The producer picked Friendship Train by Gladys Knight when her great song Dancing In The Street has much more soul. And, what the heck is Beautiful Morning by The Rascals doing on a soul album? If they wanted to show that white bands could have soul too then why pick that song? A much better choice for a white band that sounds black is K.C. & The Sunshine Band which had a white lead singer with mostly black musicians and backup singers. Finally, this bust of a CD has only 45:35 of music--a massive rip-off. Leib Ostrow, the producer, doesn't know squat about soul or kids.

  2. A terrific collection of soul favorites of the 60's and 70's, my baby and I have lots of fun carpet dancing to this CD. Unlike many other Music for Little People CD's where the songs have been completely redone, there are only a few changes to a couple of songs - "updated" with a little hip-hop. Otherwise, the songs are as you remember them.

  3. This is such a great disc that I enjoy listening to it even more than my son. Every child should have the pleasure of owning this. I plan to buy this for friends. Who doesn't like James Brown, Aretha and the Jackson Five?

  4. Keep your dancing shoes on because you and your little one(s) will dance all night with this CD on. All I need to do is hit play and my 2 yr. old son can't stop bopping. Enjoy great tunes from Ike & Tina to the Jackson 5.

5 comments about Cuban Lullaby.

  1. Our whole family loves listening to this CD. However, as you might be able to tell from the product description, the music starts off softly lulling children to sleep and then picks up the beat and volume in the later part. So, just when my kids were starting to relax-they suddenly felt like dancing. We solved the problem by using the feature on our CD player which allows us to pre-program only the songs we want for bedtime. Really a nice collection of songs.

  2. This album is beautiful and should certainly put your little one to sleep. Many of the songs have a kind of aching lonliness, and the musicianship is spectacular. Two cautions:
    1) How many versions of Duerme Negrita can they put on one album? Aren't there other songs Cuban mamas y papas sing to their little ones?
    2) If you're hoping to introduce your little one to the Spanish language, quite a few of these songs are in afro-cuban dialect.

    Enjoy!

  3. We were very disappointed with the musical quality of the CD. The artist's command of pitch was lacking.

  5. I am Cuban-American and found two rare gems this year. This CD, CUBAN LULLABY and the Cuban-American bilingual children's picturebook set in Cuban Miami's Little Havana Calle Ocho Festival, DRUM, CHAVI, DRUM!/TOCA, CHAVI, TOCA! The characters, author and illustrator are Cuban. These two recommendations are for children, but if you're Cuban-American or Latina/o you will relish in these two items no matter how old you are.

    10 stars to both items!

1 comments about 100 Favourite Nursery Rhymes & Songs.

  1. The rhymes are spoken in a monotonous manner. Had they mixed things up a bit and used different people, it would have at least been more interesting, instead it gets old fast. Children have a short attention span, so monotony was not the best idea.

The rhymes are not individually accessible, there are two tracks with 50 rhymes each, so no skipping to favorites.
