5 comments about Parakeet Album: Songs of Jimmy Buffett.

  1. I heard this album years ago and I'm buying it today for my own child!

  2. My husband and I are both big Buffett fans and we had this Cd before our daughter was born, I played it in my classroom and my kindergartners loved it, especially Volcano. We had to get a new one for our daughter because it went MISSING in my class ??? Now we listen to it all the time!!!1 YEAH! Fins up!

  3. I have this as one of the CD's in my car CD player, distracts my 1 yr old daughter whenever she gets antsy in the car- some songs are a little annoying to me, just b/c Buffett is really the only one who should sing them in my opinion, but it keeps her entertained and that's all that matters!

  4. I had this CD and lent it out to a friend and forgot who it was. I have been looking for it to buy ever since. I love Jimmy and my kids love Jimmy this CD is a blessing.

I did enjoy listening to this CD with my kids when we had it before. I can't wait to get it again!

    Mama Parrothead and
her two Parakeets (4 and 6)

  5. My 3 year old daughter loves this CD and I find myself singing along with her. She puts on her Hula skirt and dances away to the songs sung by other kids. We highly reccomend this CD to all of you out there with kids or a perfect gift for a child as well. We're going to buy this CD and give it to kids at her 4th Birthday Party.

5 comments about Sing Me to Sleep, Daddy.

  1. After my son was born, I found it hard to find music to play when I put him to bed at night. A friend told me about "Sing Me to Sleep, Daddy" and "Sing Me to Sleep, Mommy". My son will turn 3 in April and we still play these CDs every night when we put him in bed. I love that my son hears every night how much he is loved.

It has also become the gift that I give everyone expecting a baby.

  2. The music on this CD is perfect for rocking your baby to sleep and for helping put your child to sleep as he/she grows older. The music is very calming and the songs now bring back many fond memories of bonding times with my children. I just purchased this as a gift for a couple who just had their first child. Ideal for newborns because of the soft music/lyrics.

  3. This is, quite possibly, the most touching CD I have ever heard. No mother should miss out on this one. The songs touch your heart and soul. This would make a wonderful gift for a new mother.

  4. I had gotten this CD really on a lark not knowing anything about it. I was searching for a song to dance with my father to at my wedding. I had a tough time chosing from 5 different songs!! I could not believe how beautiful SO MANY of the songs were. When my father and I danced to Safe in Your Daddy's Arms there was not a dry eye in the house! Well, worth every penny and thensome! It also has some of the best lyrics and melodies I have ever heard for lullaby's.

  5. This is the most beautiful cd I ever heard. Its perfect for the little ones and their parents. I have no children yet, but I will save this one especially for them.

4 comments about A Child's Celebration of Song 2.

  1. What a great CD! I have the first one and like this one just as much if not more (haven't heard it 100+ times yet) The CD I have is in such poor shape I decided to shop for a new one. Highly recommend.

  2. My 3-year-old son absolutely loves this CD. I got it on a whim, because it's hard to find good kids' music. Luckily, this one's a winner. In fact, all the "Child's Celebration" CDs are worth a listen. We dance to this one almost every night.

  3. The songs on this CD were okay, but we prefered the first CD, Celebration of Song. Two of the songs on this CD were good, especially Inchworm. However, one tune was rap...and we didn't like it at all.

  4. This is a great album (we have the cassette version). Appealing to both kids and parents, it's a fun mix of silly, upbeat songs (Choo Choo Boogaloo and Bananaphone) and slower, more sentimental tunes (Inchworm, All the Pretty Little Ponies) that stay with you long after you're finished listening. My 7-month-old loves it, and he's patient enough to let me listen to it over and over again! It's kids stuff with a sophisticated twist. I'd also recommend the Music For Little People Lullaby Album, it's super-sweet and the mix of songs is really unique.

5 comments about Small Fry: Capitol Sings Kids' Songs for Grownups.

  1. I bought this cd because I wanted music for my 6-month-old son that was just regular music, but fun. I'm not a fan of the "wee sing" kind of sound. My parents sang most of these songs to me and I'm happy that my son will grow up with these songs, too. Some of the arrangements are different from the ones my parents played, but I got used to them.

  2. Cute songs, some of which the kids aren't familiar with these days. Very nice and we truly enjoy!

  3. This CD is played just about every day around dinner time. We dance around the kitchen and my kids love it! ( 5 year old twins & 2 year old). If we have company over, they often ask where we got it. I would highly recommend. We have had it for about 6 months now, and I am not ENTIRELY sick of it yet (ok, except for the Woody Woodpecker song, could do with out that one....)

  4. Simply stated, the entire CD is fantastic. It is a nice change from the traditional sing-along tunes and exposes a new generation to music from another era. Personally I love it because it contains songs that my grandmother sang to me and now my little ones can learn the lyrics to sing the songs to her. Our three-year-olds giggle during Woody Woodpecker and Three Little Fishes, hiss on cue during The Pussy Cat Song (Nyow! Nyot Nyow!), they do The Hokey Pokey in their carseats, and sing along to Jeepers Creepers, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.

  5. This CD features Capitol Records recording artists performing "kids songs". Kids songs is this case are songs based on nursery rhymes, or songs from Disney movies, or silly novelty songs that kids like. The performers are mostly "pop singers" from the pre-rock and roll era. People like Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and the Lettermen. Sadly, Frank Sinatra singing "Old MacDonald" is not included. But the songs that are included are pretty entertaining. This is a fun, lighthearted CD.

5 comments about Thanks & Giving All Year Long (Companion CD).

  1. I bought this based on a review in Mothering magazine a few years ago, and it has been one of my four children's favorite CDs ever since. "I Want It" became our theme song one vacation as everyone sang it out loud over and over again at full blast in the car (my kids recognized themselves). We tend to skip over the stories, as it's the songs that are really catchy and singable. A teenage mother's helper I had one summer was astounded at all the "cool" people she recognized on the CD. A must buy for any family with young children!

  2. A Free to Be You and Me kid myself (30 years ago)...I was thrilled to discover it was still in print and on CD for my 10 year and 7 years olds. They love it so much and both wanted copies of the book. However we found some of it to be a little outdated (we actually enjoy doing housework togeher). Nonetheless, it is still a regular on the family CD player.

Ms. Thomas' most recent offering - Thanks and Giving also holds a spot in the CD player. What a wonderul offering! So similiar in all positive comparisons to Free...but so much more relevant for what is happening in today's world...today!

The Kid's and I LOVE them both...we look forward to new offerings as they come out!

  3. I have reccommended this cd to all my mom friends! Kids love it- adults dont' feel compelled to rip their ears off while listening- ok I actually enjoy it! It's a kids cd and I look forward to singing along with my kids. The stories are wonderful too... This will make a great gift for the family who has everything...

  4. I bought this as a gift for my daughter's friend and also got one for her for Christmas. I couldn't wait to hear it, since I got it in November. I have "Free To Be..." and I was so delighted with this CD. The stories are on target, and the songs are also funny, cute, sweet, telling, etc. In one week, we've listened to the CD in the car and in the house at least 20 times. It's FABULOUS. My daughter loves the 2nd and third track. I love the cast of characters and all they offer to the kids. The proceeds go to Childrens Hospital, a worthwhile cause.

  5. This CD has one objective - push a leftist agenda. It's themes are awash in "class struggles" and pushes everything from the perspective of the persecuted poor. It even has a short piece on considering the food's point of view when eating meat. This is the worst sort of leftist propaganda trash, and we do our children no favors by bashing everything and everyone that might not be one of the downtrodden...

2 comments about Child's Celebration of Classical Music.

  1. This is definitely not what I expected in a classical music tape, but still a surprisingly enjoyable to listen to. I bought it for my 4 year old who loves to listen to what he calls "kid's songs" and hoped that it wouldn't totally annoy my older children. This one is a winner, though, ALL the kids (ages 2 to 11) really like it. Bobby McFerrin's Music Box is really quite amazing and you appreciate his talent the more you listen to it (although I would never have guessed this was classical music.) The water music rendition is equally fun. My only complaint is that Gerald McBoing is waaaay too long, but still it fascinated the kids so I guess it's worth it! The variety of music contained on the tape keeps it fresh.

  2. Kids will eat this up! The selection of readers and singers are brilliant. Not only will the stories entertain children but they will learn from a young age that classical dosn't mean boring! Danny Kaye is one of my favorite people. His voice has always captured me somehow. I have seen my siblings listen in amazement to Boby McFerrin's amazing "voice". His portrayel of a music box is highly impressive. The way this CD combines the old with the new, the humorous with the soothing, and the music with the story telling, leaves me feeling up-lifted and calm. A complete must-have for children and adults alike!

  1. My kids love singing along with this CD. Great way to invole kids in worship.

  2. My children thoroughly enjoy listening to the voices of kids sing these contemporary christian songs. As for me, I enjoy it, too. I don't feel as if I've sacrificed quality for kid-friendliness.

5 comments about 'Til Their Eyes Shine (The Lullaby Album).

  1. Received the merchandise quickly! A friend suggested this cd as one of her favorites that she received when her baby was born. It was a big hit with my friend as well!

  2. The moaning, whiney songs on this CD are enough to give even the most cheerful baby the blues. If you enjoy torchy folk songs, this is your CD. If you were looking for modern, but gentle music to ease your baby to sleep at the end of the day - look elsewhere. I love the Kenny Loggins Return to Pooh Corner and More Songs from Pooh Corner, Linda Rondstadt: Dedicated to the One I love and the Martha Stewart Baby: Sleepytime(don't laugh). And my absolute favorite is one that is, unfortunately, out of print now, Lullabies for Little Dreamers: Soft Rock Classics from your favorite artists. Do yourself a favor - look for a used copy of that and skip this depressing, adult themed attempt at the blues.

  3. I love this CD. It is perfect for bed time no matter what the age. Had the hardest time finding it other places. I have young family members who listened to this when they were babies and now I found it for my own children!

  4. I remember receiving this CD from my sister when my first child was born. I would sit in the rocker with her and sing each song to her as she looked up in amazement. My favorite is "If I Didn't Have You to Wake Up To." My children, now 7 and 10, still occasionally ask me to sing a lullaby to them for fun. This song is always my first choice. Other than one song which feels a little bit intense, maybe even scary (my daughter would cry whenever it played, with tears running down her face), all the songs are pleasant, and fun to sing if you like singing. I have given it as gifts to several of my family and friends when they have their first child. It is a timeless piece. Great music, especially if you like female vocals! The variety of artists keeps it fresh...forever.

  5. We purchased this in summer of 2004 when our daughter was 1 1/2.
We, the parents, fell in love with it right away. Such a refreshing change, and all new songs to us. Now our little girl is over two, and has to hear it before bed each night. Track two, Child of Mine, is our special song, and instantly brings calm and cuddles to an otherwise stressful time of day. I can't imagine a time in the future when I won't love this CD. I will likely take it to my retirement home -- everybody needs a little lullaby once in a while -- not just the kids.

5 comments about American Lullaby.

  1. We received this CD as a gift before our first, and only, son arrived this past Spring. To be honest I was looking forward to hours of old lullibies as I was having to spend money on purple dinosaurs and stuffed animals with weird geometric shapes growing out of their heads forced on us by the Brits. However, my wife and I were more than pleasantly surprised.

This folk take on the classic lullibies is a winner. We can listen to it everyday . . . and we do! Within a few minutes, our son is sound asleep or at least calm and quiet and we're singing along (usually offkey). It reminds of Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg and Wilco who brought Woody Guthrie back to life with a "sound that raised the roofs of the old barns. Just what Woody would have done."

And now, we've given out three as gifts!

  2. Wow! This is truly a treasure! A great collection of beautiful heartfelt and good songs. A family favorite over here.

  3. My almost 2 year old granddaughter requests this be turned on even when we are not napping. She tries to sing along to the soothing songs. Great music investment for our whole family!

  4. My husband and I play this cd every night while we rock our triplets to sleep. As several of the other reviewers have said this is a great cd to sing along to (even for those of us with very limited musical abilities). My personal favorite: Home on the Range.

  5. I started listening to this CD before my twin boys were born, so I could be able to sing along to all the songs when they arrived. Even if you're not a natural born singer, the songs are really catchy, with soothing arrangements that will calm a sleep deprived dad.
Now the CD is part of our bedtime routine. Humming the tunes has also helped calm our babies during fussy times. Choosing good music for babies is important. Make sure you choose something you like - your babies will respond well if the music makes mommy/daddy happy too!
