- What started out as a search for some Saunders King material in a used CD store ended as a great find with this album. Even though it only includes two excellent Saunder King cuts with his T-bone style of singing and playing, the rest of the album is also a must hear. Lots of early solid gold material here by artists like Little Johnny Taylor backed up by Arthur Wright on guitar, Charles Brown, Phillip Walker, Sonny Rhodes and Big Mama Thornton. There is even a couple of cuts by KC Douglas but not my favs since I prefer his solo country style blues rather than his band supported numbers here. This album is worth checking out if you interested in horn driven blues or just wishing to expand your blues horizons.

- wonderful collection of folk recordings made spanning the years 1926 to 1929. plenty of fine guitar pickin' and banjo pickin' and fiddler fiddlin'. people singing about a lot of mayhem here, too. love and murder are often companions in these old mountain tunes (hear "darling cora"), or sometimes someone is just stuck in jail for shootin' up the town (hear "six months ain't long"). there's a nice public service message called "the fate of chris lively and wife," which warns you: WATCH OUT CROSSING RAILROAD TRACKS WITH YOUR HORSE AND WAGON! all in all, this is a fun piece of americana from another time. personally, i think you should pick up a copy.
- The recordings on this album are pure Appalachian and Ozark folk music nostalgia, with the guitars played in the unique style of Jimmie Rogers and A.P. Carter. If you enjoy listening to real "old Fashioned" mountain ballads performed by real mountain folks, then you'll enjoy this album.

1 comments about The Sullivan Years: Rhythm & Blues Revue.
- When CBS-TV cancelled the Ed Sullivan Show in 1971, the program's long-time host remarked that "Vaudeville has died its second death." So true.
Viewers who joined Ed on Sunday nights were treated to the best musicians and singers of all generations, as well as a never-ending variety of dancers, animal acts, tumblers, magicians, spinners, puppets, novelty performers, stand-up comics and scenes from current stage shows. A single hour of Sullivan was indeed akin to witnessing a full vaudeville bill.
THE SULLIVAN YEARS series features highlights from every era and genre, including opera and Broadway. All CDs come with booklets containing photos and show details. The only limitation of this marvelous collection is audio range. Tracks taken from vintage monaural broadcast-quality film and videotape may not be up to modern standards, but many of the hundreds presented are often the only available "live" perfomances of some artists.
Jackie Wilson and The Platters are most prominently featured on RHYTHM & BLUES REVUE while Chuck Berry and Little Richard are conspicuously absent. All performances are "live."
Total running time of the 13 tracks is 29:12.
Lower fidelity on Jackie Wilson (#4), Louis Jordan (#6), Bo Diddley, LaVern Baker and Platters (#10).
THE SULLIVAN YEARS: GREAT LADIES OF JAZZ features Lena Horne, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan and others.

- This is the second one of these I have bought. I purchased the first one for myself and played it for my parents. They liked it so much I almost couldn't get it back from them so I had to buy one for them.

1 comments about Harp & Soul.
- This is a nice collection of some tunes with tasty blues harmonica licks from the 1950s and 60s. There are a few tunes here by some undistinguished "squawkers" (my word for mediocre harmonica players), but they're in the minority. For the hardcore fans of blues harp, there are a few unreleased tunes here by the master, Sonny Boy Williamson II along with other greats as Jr. Wells, Snooky Pryor and Sonny Terry, but the revelation here comes in two tunes by the little-known Louis Meyers, who really made his mouth organ talk. This collection, like Rhino's excellent volumes on Blues Harmonica, will make Blues fans jump for joy and harmonicists go back to the woodshed to practice some more.
