5 comments about The Crow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
- It will pick you up, smash you down, grind your face into the concrete, and then take you on a motorcycle ride at 120mph through the night.
- One of the best Soundtracks in history. A perfect match for a perfect film !
- Well, I have to say this is easily one of the best soundtracks of all time. It really is an assembly of remarkable bands and some of which are well under the mainstream radar. Another added bonus is that many of these tracks are previously unreleased, and each one shows each respective band at the top of their game. Nine Inch Nails covering Joy Division? Are you kidding me? How amazing is that? All in all this is a stellar soundtrack, one I can pretty much enjoy from beginning to end. I must reiterate just how splendid I find it to have top name acts like Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and Pantera alongside virtually unknown (except in the industrial world) acts like Machines of Loving Grace and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. An interesting mix of bands for sure, but fortunately for me I can appreciate it all.
- The music on this CD are from the original movie titled, 'The Crow.' The music is dark and somewhat tells a story that seems to follow the mood of the movie rather closely. On the soundtrack, I found that I personally like some of the songs more than others. I do however, recommend this CD for anyone that enjoyed the movie, or that just likes a hint of darker sounding music.
- This soundtrack is simply amazing. It fits the movie to a T. It was one of my very first teenage music purchases and it sort of defined my life at the time and my taste in music for the times to come. My first introduction to NIN, The Cure, Rage... and the final song by Jane Siberry is so sad and beautiful. I only saw the movie once (though I own it), but I have listened to the soundtrack countless times over the years. This album really helped me and I am so grateful for it.

5 comments about Punk Goes Crunk.
- I wonder what idiot thought up this idea? Why don't they have the bands do covers of songs that are actually good and any Crunk song is not. Punk music is slipping slowly into a coma, and true bands and true fans need to bring it back, or well live in a world where every punk band will all sound like fall out boy....GOD HELP US !!
- I think this cd is great. There are a few songs on the CD that aren't nearly "punk" enough. However the high points of the CD are Still Fly, The Seed 2.0, and Notorius Thugs. The Devil Wears Prada version of Still Fly is really great.
- Just by the samples on this cd alone, it's not worth the $$. The only decent track on here is actually All Time Low's version of Umbrella. Everything else fails to capture hip-hop in a punk setting.
- White boyz do it better! :)
This album is NOT a spoof on popular hip-hop songs.
These bandz show that they can actually play hip-hop,
if they wanted to, each band could probably produce a hip-hip record.
These bands do an incredible job of covering these songs.
5 Stars, would give more if available.
This is a must get for those who listen to hip-hop and rock.
- Im not going to get into too elaborate of a review because, well its Punk goes Crunk. I was pretty reluctant to listen to this album but I figured, hey... i like punk and i like certain kinds of rap so why not give it a shot. Most of the songs on the CD are actually pretty decent, and not like what you would expect them to be.
Worst songs on the CD- put yo hood up, nuthin but a G thang, and Hey Ya... the hey ya version is okay in this CD but the one those dudes did on youtube is a helluva lot better.
Top 3 songs on this CD for me- I got your money, notorious thugs, and NFG's version of Tennessee.
I gave it four stars instead of 3 bc out of 15 songs I dont like 3, so I figure if I like 12 songs on a CD, it gets an extr star. I dont take this album seriously (i.e. wouldnt blast it whilst driving my car) but take it with a grain of salt and take it as it is.... a novelty CD by the "punk goes" series thats trying different things.

5 comments about If I Were a Carpenter.
- This is a great CD, you know the words to all the songs yet they have that little bit of uniqueness about the artist singing it.
- This is a modern and upbeat remake of some old great Carpenters classics. Even if you never heard the Carpenters music, you can still appreciate the sound; and if you are a Carpenters fan then you are in for a real treat. Sonic Youth, Sheryl Crow, 4 Non-Blondes...are just a few of the great artists you can find. Check out the tracks "Top of The World" and "Bless the Beast and the Children". What I really like the most is that this CD is one of the very few that I can enjoy with my 53 year old mom driving with me in my car. For me the songs are hip and have a great rock/alternative sound while staying true to the original versions and yet for someone my mom's age, she enjoys the new sounds of old classics that bring back memories for her as well. Overall, this CD is a great mix bag of some notable 90's artists covering the Carpenters classics.
- I have been fortunate enough to have owned this wonderful recording since it was released many years ago. I wanted to share this great music with friends and was very pleased to find it on AMAZON. These are timeless songs that one can really relate to concerning LOVE's ups-n-downs. Open your heart and sing your favorites. Every SHA LA LA LA, every song is inspiring...SOOOO FINE..
- i have had this cd forever! the only 2 songs worth anything are the cranberries and the sonic youth cover.the Superstar cover is magic! i have since found the cd again and put on the old sony headphones and rediscovered this track, listen to it and discover what this band has done! i truely believe this song should have won a gramy or something, the layers of sound are amazing! i give the carpenters credit for writing great songs and i give sonic youth high grades for turning a great song into a masterpiece of emotion and sound!
- This album has been one of my favorites for years. The interpretations are unique, yet familiar to the ear, and are very enjoyable! Only one or two "stinkers", but I give it 5 Stars for the strong remainder!
Whether you're already familiar with the Carpenters or just starting to check out their work, this is a great alternative tribute!

5 comments about I'm Your Fan.
- "Chelsea hotel" by Lloyd Cole may very well be the worst cover in history. What madness would provoke someone to turn this great song into an upbeat softrock abortion? I love the drumming especially, wow, it makes me want to drive screwdrivers into my ears. And how it falls off after the chorus, So dramatic! -- like the buildup of a cheap soap opera before a commercial for douches. Total garbage. There are few greater crimes than taking something great and pointlessly remaking it into something awful. Stop me before I listen to that awesome harmonic solo again!
- Forget about who wrote the songs, forget about trying to make comparisons, forget about whether or not the performances were worthy of a tribute. Simply take it as music. Leonard Cohen wrote great songs that here shows they were also great POP songs. So if you're into great music, especially pop songs, and can listen to music without biases or prejudices then you must pick up this disc. The first track "First We Take Manhattan" clearly exemplifies this. While a R.E.M. fan, this song is one of my favorites by them. Mike Mills as co-vocalist with lead singer Michael Stipes makes this an incredible track. Ian McCulloch has an incredible voice and this shows on "Hey That's No Way....". "I Can't Forget" sounds like any other great Pixies track. There are many other stand out tracks like That Petrol Emotion's "Stories of the Street," "Don't Go Home...," "Chelsea Hotel," "Hallelujah," and my favorite: Dead Famous People's "True Leaves No Traces," which transforms Cohen's beautiful lyrics into just a gorgeous pop song. Enjoy!
- After spending the last few years wandering other musical landscapes, I rediscovered Leonard Cohen this year (years after being a mega LC geek in school) and especially wanted to seek this album out again.
Compared to Famous Blue Raincoat (much shorter but much, much more luminous), I'm Your Fan is middling. What's up with the two covers of Tower of Song? Why is the cover of Suzanne so freaking boring? But then there are the beautiful plusses -- A Singer Must Die, the funky cover of Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On (who wouldn't want to hear THAT at a wedding?) and the oft-mentioned version of Hallelujah. I really like the French version of Avalanche (I didn't get the original for many years after this and was very surprised as my hand translated version was very different). Bottom line: if you want 1 LC tribute CD, get Jennifer Warnes's. If you want 2, get this one too.
- I bought this CD when it first came out in the 90's, as part of my R.E.M comprehensive collection. Since that time, this has stayed constantly near or in my CD player. Each interpretation of his songs highlights the beauty of the lyric he composed.
I would be hard pressed to find a favorite track. I am a die hard R.E.M fan, but I don't think theirs is the best (near the top, maybe). But I would have to agree with most about The Pixies rendition of "I Can't Forget".
- i got this as a gift, and since i enjoy leonard cohen music, i expected to enjoy this too, it's wasn't too dissapointed, but most of the interpetations to his songs are either trying to sounds just like leonard cohen or just too strange or unfit to the songs in my eyes.
if anyone's looking to a good introduction to leonard cohen, i suggest "the best of" or just spending your money on any other leonard cohen cd, in this case i think, the sorce's still much superiour to the reflection, yes, the nick cave interpetation is great, but it doesn't justify getting the whole cd.

5 comments about Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits.
- This album is laden with great talent, solid production and most of all fun, fun, fun! The songs are not just silly, they rock! Curious?
Like many other people I have had this album since it was released and have never gotten tired of it. This project could have so easily been soulless and stupid, but the bands featured really give it all they've got!
Here's a quick review of each track:
-The Tra-La-La Song: A high energy, alternative jam.
-Speed Racer: A high point for the album, Sponge really shreds on this song and gives it a lot of dimension with motor/guitar sounds.
-Sugar, Sugar: Very trippy, slower version of the song, with cute vocals.
-Scooby-Doo: An OK song, but not great...a little too long.
-Josie and the Pussycats: Trade off vocals and harmonies make this great.
-The Bugaloos: Hilarious to hear this somber, raspy voice singing a poppy mid-tempo rocker.
-Underdog: They really make this song their own, dirthy southern twang and falsetto background vocals create a truly unique song.
-Gigantor: Droning, fuzzed out surf rock with a great breakdown mid song.
-Spider-Man: A Classic, 'Nuff Said!
-Johnny Quest/Stop The Pigeon: Very cool, the Reverend's voice is perfect.
-...Sun Shine In: Sweet and Mellow.
-Eeep Opp Ork Ah-Ah: The Femmes work their magic, like only they can.
-Fat Albert: A funky, alternative jam.
-Popeye: The only low-point on the album, just lame and pointless.
-Friends/Sigmund: Very cool medley that maintains a laid back vibe while cranking up the energy, just makes you feel good.
-Goolie Get-Together: Great breakdown in the middle "Shout!"
-Honk Kong Phooey: The centerpiece of the album, pure Sublime style goodness, the song moves from Reggae to Punk to madness by the end!
-H.R. Pufnstuf: Very 90's folk pop-rock with amazing harmonies.
-Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy: Captures the insane spirit of Ren & Stimpy and shows it for what it was the punk rock of animation!
Just a great album, not for the kids as one reviewer mentioned. This is definitely a rock album that just happens to feature cartton theme songs.
- I had this CD in college and listened to it a lot. It was a great trip down memory lane, plus a lot of the interpretations were just great songs.
I gave away my copy of the CD at some point. Then, one day I was listening to a kids' CD I had gotten for my son and heard one of the songs from this CD on it. I bought another copy of this from Amazon and played it for my son - he LOVED it. He loves to dance and there are some very danceable songs on here (in particular the Violent Femmes cover of "Eep Ork Op Ah-ah" or whatever it is :) and he really enjoyed listening to this, as did I.
So - if you are a former early-90s grunge fan who now is old and has kids :) dig out a copy of this and put it on the CD player (if you still have one, they seem to be going the way of the 8-tracks we listened to as kids). Your kid will love this! And you won't want to tear your hair out because you're stuck listening to lame kids' music.
- I bought this CD the day it came out when I was in college and it's still one of my 5 favorite records 12 years later. The negative review I see here is from people with young kids; I can understand that. Watching the tripe that passes for cartoons these days would make the classics a lot harder to understand.
I actually like the Speed Racer cover on this album; I think my favorite track is the Friends/Sigmund medley though. There's definitely not enough material out there about the Krofft brothers and the weird effects they had on us all. I grew up near the tail end of all that, but it was still a big deal.
Ideally, I think this record should make us write to Fox and the other purveyors of the ADD-riddled offal I see on Saturday mornings and demand some better stuff for our kids. The DVD sets are getting pretty expensive!! :)
- frente and w:ax make this album worth a look. still not convinced? who hasn't wondered what a "spider man" cover by the ramones would sound like?
- Hail to a passed era: when cartoons were an excellent balance of nonsense and violence. When bands didn't sound like everybody else. When Saturday mornings were well spent in front of the TV. This CD is great fun and total nonsense. It can make us twenty- and thirty- somethings feel like kids again...well, grown-up kids. There's something so wonderful about hearing our favourite TV themes when we were kids being sung by our favourite bands when we were in high school. Sumblime, The Ramones, Violent Femmes, Butthole Surfers...this album couldn't have a more perfect collection of artists. And nothing beats Wax's "Happy Happy Joy Joy". This CD is great for those parties when everyone comes over in silly pajamas, fuzzy slippers, and big hair. Make sure you have a good supply of hairbrushes to sing in to.

5 comments about Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s, Vol. 14.
- good, decent cd.only bought it for the song "one night in bangkok" by murray head.love that song, but hard to find on a compilation cd.
- I grew up in the 70's and 80's. I was nostalgic so I purchased this CD. It's okay.
- This series is incredible! Vol 14 is one of my favorites.
I don't think you'll find Rubber Rodeo's "Anywhere with you" anywhere else - this is an amazing, under-rated song. Two other great rarities are Never Never by the Assembly and Every Word Means No by Let's Active.
Other don't-miss songs are Tenderness, One Night in Bangkok (Chess is touring around in summer 2007 - can you believe it?), Voices Carry, and Can't Get Enough of You Baby.
If you love the 80s & are on a limited budget (I only wish I could have the whole set!), this one and Vol 1 are the ones to get.
- Finally, one can have the original version of "One Night In Bangkok" on Volume 14 of this series. Murray Head wasn't smart enough to include it on his own greatest hits CD, so it's good that someone got it right. In addition, some other worthy offerings on this CD include "Close (to the edit) by Art Of Noise, Der Komimissar (After The Fire), "Imagination" by Belouis Some, and "Sunglasses At Night" by Corey Heart.
"True Men Don't Kill Coyotes" is an interesting inclusion as we get to hear the Red Hot Chili Peppers in their underground days. This is worth having if you're an 80's fan. Go get yourself a copy.
- A great mix of hard to find music.

- I only bought this CD for The Rave-Ups Positively Lost Me. Thank you for including this super rare, out of print song!
- The heart felt songs of the 80's are well captured in the Just Can't Get Enough series, they did a very good job of finding some of the more obscure songs of the 80's but unfortunately they spread them out to force you to buy the set. Yet still as far as the collection is concerned this is one of the best because of Peter Godwin's Images of Heaven. Play the song for yourself and you'll see why.
- If you grew up in the Eighties most of these songs will be familiar to you. Some of these are quite good ( Only You, Oblivious, Come Back and Stay ) and hold up nicely after repeated listening. Some do not, unfortunately. And for the record, the version of Our Lips Are Sealed here ( by the Fun Boy Three ) is NOT the original, as stated by the reviewer above. It was recorded after the Go-Gos did it ( although the lead singer of FBT - Terry Hall - co-wrote the song with Jane Weidlin of the Go-Go's). Overall, a fun nostalgia trip.

5 comments about Swing This,Baby.
- Man, what's with all the 4 and 3 star reviews, cats? When you're looking for good RETRO SWING, you have to wade through a lot of mediocre albums. This is one of the best RETRO SWING samplers you can find. Perfect for a swing party because every cut just smokes. THIS IS FIVE STARS, TRUST ME.
Buy it used from an Amazon Seller.
What happened to most of these guys? BRING BACK RETRO SWING!! This craze died out way too soon.
- The first Swing This Baby compilation of the best neo-swing bands. The best are Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Royal Crown Revue, Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra, Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra, Steve Lucky And The Rhumba Bums and of course The Brian Setzer Orchestra. What is good on this compilation is that not only hits are featured here but selections are great. I can not decide which song is the best.
So play it loud and dance the night away.
- A great CD that will make you wish for a momentary time-warp to go back to the days when "swing was king." Not every song is 5 star, which is why I rated it as an overall 4- but the majority of the songs are fantastic
- When I first listened to this CD, I noticed that there were a lot of different styles of jazz, and that for one thing is what makes the album so good. No matter what mood you're in, you'll always be in the mood for Swing This, Baby! I just want to say that I love the song "Black and White" by "Bellevue Cadillac"! It gives the album a 40's kind-of feel to it and you should also listen to "We still Talk The Way That Lovers Do". That is another great track! Overall, its a great CD!
- This album is awesome! Every song is very well-written and highly energetic. I love especially "Ding Dong Daddy of the D-Cat line", THAT is a sweet song to swing to. I think the reason why I love this c.d. so much is that there is a variety of songs on it, which doesn't limit the various ways to dance to it. Like Track 1 is EXCELLENT to do a fast charleston etc..In all this album is SWEET and if you want music to bust your butt to, this is it, the music does not ALLOW you to just listen to it, you have to move!

5 comments about Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s, Vol. 11.
- Folks, I only bought this CD for "Send Me An Angel" by Real Life. That's one of my favorite songs from the 80's. The rest of the CD outside of "99 Luft Balloons" by Nena is passable. Five stars for the Group 'Real Life'!! Three stars for the disc overall.
- I bought this CD because it has the original 1983 version of Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" which I couldn't find anywhere else.
As for the rest of it, this CD is a decent 80's collection. However, I'd suggest starting off any 80's library with the 5 volumes of "Living In Oblivion" and then building up from there.
- Volume 11 of the New Wave Dance Hits series is an excellent collection of great 80's rock mixing some of the biggest new wave hits with other lesser known but still strong tracks. The tracks "99 Luftballons", "True", "Talking In Your Sleep", and "One Thing Leads To Another" were all Top 5 singles in the early 80's. Of these tracks, only "One Thing..." has stood the test of time as it still gets regular airplay on modern rock radio.
As with many of the albums in this series, it's the lesser known tracks that truly stand out. Some of these include the driving "In A Big Country", the moody "Send Me An Angel", the excellent pop of "Black Coffee In Bed", and the hyperactive track "The Fanatic." But the best tracks here, and the reason to pick up this album, are the tracks "Just Got Lucky", quite simply an excellent pop song that should have made JoBoxers huge, and "Emotion", a track by DFX2 which sounds reminiscent of Greg Kihn Band but is more danceable with its killer bass line. Other solid tracks include "Change", "Jukebox (Don't Put Another Dime)", and "Shiny Shiny." The rest of the album is pretty decent too. A great compliation. Highly recommended.
- It automatically gets 5 stars just for including Haysi Fantayzee! It never leaves my carousel, except maybe for a trip on the subway in my discman.
- Another strong collection in Rhino's New Wave Hits series. Great stuff like Jo Boxers' "Just Got Lucky" and the super cool "Fanactic" by Felony. Add some classic cuts from Squeeze, The Fixx and Big Country and it all adds up to a very worthy collection. Overall, great fun stuff from a time when music was catchy, clever and optimistic. If you grew up in the 80's, chances are you'll dig this CD as well as the others in this great series.

3 comments about KCRW: Sounds Eclectic Too.
- This is an amazing collection of live studio music. The variety of songs and artists is wonderful, it will be hard to wear this out with such different styles of music on this cd. This station and KGSR out of Austin, Tx, do some of the best (if not the best) live compilation cd's that I know of. The bare bones version of Coldplay's Yellow is just amazingly soulful....the Dido contribution is a real surprise too, these are just two of the highlights, but the whole thing is so very good...buy, listen, and enjoy.
- Radio station in-house recordings can be hit or miss. The Mountain and others have some really great productions. I wish I had passed on this one. The selections are poor with no production quality.
- This album (the second in the "Sounds Eclectic" series) compiles some of the best works from one of the most eclectic radio shows there is: Morning Becomes Eclectic, which airs from Santa Monica's station KCRW (also catch the streamed version of their programs at KCRW.org). It's hard to pick one of the tracks above others: all in all, the album provides an excellent sample of some of today's best acts. However, I do have some personal favorites:
-The version of "Yellow" performed on piano, by Coldplay's Chris Martin; -REM's beautiful rendition of their hit from their latest album, "I've Been High;" -A plunge into the work of one of Mexico's (and Latin America's) best rock acts, Julieta Venegas, performing "Casa Abandonada;" -"Fever," a track that brings to mind Stillwater's "Fever Dog," an awesome road track; -"Jesus on a Greyhound," one of my favorite discoveries from this album, performed by Shelby Lynne; and -Norah Jones' "Feeling the Same Way," wrapping up the selection made by the show's DJ, Nic Harcourt.Get a copy of this album and you will be able to sample the best of today's musical works.
