  1. I won't say anything about the music, as with queensryche, you know that it's quallity you get. I just want to tell what you DON'T get, namely a booklet with lyrics for each album, no pictures or sleevenotes, and the discs themselves aren't in hard cases.
Also the box, a "sweet" little thing the size of 3 cd hardcovers side by side and the "artwork" on the whole package sucks. Really, just buy the individual discs!

  2. It took a while for it to happen, but when it did, I got it immdiately. All of the Queensryche albums on CD, Remastered, expanded and in one package, is their anything else a fan could ask for. The only thing about buing the box set, you loose out on all of the expanded packaging and coverart that the seperate CD cases have, but I you gain the promisland CD-rom game, an interesting release that you may have owned when it first came out (about $30 orignally), then re-release with the greatest hits, and now in the box set. Still, fun to mess around with. I think the set speaks for itself, It got all the the classic queensryche albums, is there anything more? It would be silly to get anything else. So use this as a base set to build your collection from, and add on with Q2K, tribe, Livecrime, live evolution, art of live, and the newest release Mindcrime 2.

  3. This contains the core of queensryche music. I only rated it 4 because the game that comes with it is boring ( not a fan of Myst type games) Overall this is a must have collection.

  4. I have to say that for ANY BEGINNERS who want to know what Queensryche is all about they will obviously get it all here. Furthermore, if you are a novice to this music, you probably could care less about the packaging. However, for the seasoned veteran of the band who already knows the music...go for the individual remastered discs. They have more aesthetic value. You can live without the box itself.

  5. The Queensryche Revolution Box set is a hard release to rate with stars. This is nothing but a revenue sucking machine for the bands former label EMI. It is safe to say that the band had nothing to do with the concept of this project. The set is overpriced with EMI knowing that only the hard core fans will want this. There was no love in the design. The CD sleeves are simple shell reproductions of the studio CD releases and the box is awkward and rounded out with the Promised Land CD Rom game that I am sure they are desperate to unload because I paid next to nothing for a copy through the mail years ago.

Having said all of that the music is amazing, and isn't that what it is really about? Do you want to rock out or sit and stare at a box? The early remastered discs sound ten times better and the bonus tracks are a dream of a find... the whole set is almost worth it just for the Tokyo tracks that close the remastered EP. The best thing about this release is that it closes the door on bootleggers. The bonus material is stellar. I was close to just buying the remastered EP, Warning, Rage, and Mindcrime but I bit the bullet and am glad that I did. Die hards will love this. 5 stars for the music but overall 4 stars because you have to judge it as a boxset release and there are no added photos, booklets, liner notes, offers, stickers, or lyrics etc. The Bonus tracks are the real deal...

  1. I received this item as expected. My only concern was that it did not have the booklet in it that contained pictures and history. I was extremely disappointed, but did not return it, because I wanted the set. This is the first item that has not come as offered.

  2. This is a four CD overview of the Everly Brothers career. It starts with a recording from the Everly Family radio show in 1951 and ends with a song from 1990. The brothers are arguably the most important duo in the history of rock and roll, and were if fact among the initial inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were extremely successful between 1957 and 1962. After that, they only occasionally had a hit song, although they were still putting out some good records. Anyway, this is a good collection of many of their best songs, from their hit years and their non-hit years, which should appeal to their fans.

  3. I would have appreciated more Cadence and early Warner Bros cuts on this 4 disc set...the later songs tho fine in their recasting into the sixties sound, then later into progressive country reveal the ongoing talent of the Everly's but dominate too much of the selections here...How could you leave off "Change of Heart" from A Date with the Everlys????

  4. I have seen the Everly's 8-9 times in concert and have most of there cd's so this set was a welcome addition. Buying this years ago before all the warner cd releases my only complaint about this set would have been some of the song selections, for instance "nice guys" one of there worst attempts, I would have chosen some better cuts then some of the 1963 era ones on disc 2.
    Overall though, Awesome

  5. Although the Everly Brothers collection spanned a larger timeline than most people suspect, I've always wished that one day there could be a collection that supercedes the obvious 'hits' compilations that get regurgitated over and over again. This is the ticket.

"Heartaches & Harmonies" is fully comprehensive; it chronologically lists the songs from 1951 to 1990, and thankfully includes much of the duo's latter output, most of which is on par with anything they did in the classic 50's period.

Any re-recording/remastering that's been done has been polished to a tee (thank you Rhino records! Kings of the box set!), and they've done a great job of condensing the Everly's considerable discography.

No self-respecting fan of rock and roll should be without this box set; it's been lovingly crafted using the brothers as springboards to their own material, offering tidbits of information as to how the songs were inspired (and even a little bit of trivia).

  1. This astonishing collection sounds great but I do have a gripe or two. For one, where's "Li'l Liza Jane" and for another, I would have loved to have heard a live version of Hank's Jambalaya 'cause Fats rips the song up live.
The omission of "Liza" is especially glaring since it was recorded for Imperial...

Imperfect as it is, this collection will keep you rockin' and rollin' with the Fat Man and insofar box sets go - this is a fine collection.

  2. you know, i love simplicity. i love fats domino's music because, to me, he had that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" style. i love that type of stuff when it is good...............and this is beyond that and then some. i STRONGLY recommend this box set. it is actually worth all the hard-earned bucks that you will be spending.

  3. 16 RIAA certified million sellers( at time of their release) and 9 #1 hits on Billboards R&B charts-nothing else needs to be said. How dare a radio dj say this man never had a #1 hit when he hit that spot 9 times on BB's R&B chart. This is the essential Fats Domino collection- for the roots of Rock and Roll are contained within.

  4. Fats Domino is one of the most important figures in the history of pop music, creating a large body of work with Imperial Records that remains some of the most ground-breaking, entertaining music ever recorded. A pioneer and master of New Orleans rhythm & blues and early rock n' roll, this box set is a great introduction to his work.

This box set replaces the 1991 box set, "They Call Me The Fat Man," and in some ways, it's superior, in others, it isn't. The packaging is certainly poorer: a sturdy, neat box with jewel cases is replaced by a digipak wallet, and the nice photo on the front is now a cartoonish, tracing of the same photo with a cartoonish logo (this would've been more appropriate on a Happy Meal). What makes this set better is the sound and track selection. All but 18 tracks from the 1991 box set are duplicated, and the 18 'replacements' are a little better overall, emphasizing rhythm & blues over pop. Furthermore, the sound is much better and completely remastered. The 1991 box set was very poor. Despite using good sources, poor remixing and processing (in some cases, it seems like they were going for a fake stereo effect where they were unable to do any remixing) sabotaged a lot of tracks. That's not the case for this box set.

There is a cheaper alternative in the recent 20-track best of, which is more suitable for casual fans and those on a stricter budget. For committed fans, the 8 CD Bear Family box set is the best (and better sound despite the age of the set), being both complete and expensive. There's also a few Ace CD's from the UK that collect all the singles up to the late 50's (therefore missing the latter day hits), also in better sound but without the sped-up sound that was applied after the mixing stage (the original records had this sped-up sound, but Fats doesn't seem to favor it). Depending on how much music you want and how much money you've got, any of these are great introductions to a living legend.

5 comments about Here Come the Nice: The Immediate Anthology 3 CD Set.

  1. This is a compilation of the three albums the Nice put out during their time together. There were 2 posthumous releases after they broke up (The Five Bridges and Elegy), but The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack, Ars Longa Vita Brevis, and "Nice" were the three main releases, and this is what comprises this anthology. Any fan of prog rock (especially ELP) has got to give these a listen.

The first one, The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack, sounds, at times, like a pyschedelic artifact, with distorted guitar and echoing vocals. In other words, very pyschedlic effects that everyone was doing at the time. But then, there's Emerson's organ/keyboard work, which gave this band (and ELP) their unique sound. There seemed to be a bit of a battle here for dominance between the guitarist David O'List and Emerson, which Emerson won handily. The album also has the first rendition of Rondo, a favorite piece of the Nice that Emerson took with him when he joined ELP. The version here, while good, seems a bit tentative. The shorter version on the "Nice" album is actually tighter and better. This is my least favorite of the three albums, as Emerson is still finding his voice.

The 2nd album, Ars Longa Vita Brevis, is better. It has a great, famous cover of America, a song that the Nice played often and made them infamous when they burned an American flag on stage at the Royal Albert Hall when playing this tune. ELP put this one in their repetoire, and played it in concert quite often. The cover of Karelia Suite by Sibelius is awesome, one of the signature tunes of the Nice. And this album has their first side long suite (a staple of ELP), the title track. It's very good. O'List appears briefly on this track. He quit the band midway through this album because he couldn't compete with Keith Emerson's keyboards. After O'List's departure, Emerson really dominated the band, leading to....

Their final official studio album, just titled "Nice". This is the best of the three, with one side studio (the first four tracks), and one side live (2 tracks). The live tracks are the best, with the Nice's best rendition of Rondo (called Rondo '69 here). It's tight and intense. It's just as good as ELP versions of the songs. The album also has an epic cover of Dylan's She Belongs to Me. The Nice completely deconstruct the song, and turn it into a monster prog rock jam. The studio tracks are pretty good, too. Azrael Revisited and For Example are the best (with some horns on For Example), and there's a studio version of Hang On To a Dream. I personally like the extra long version on Elegy (which ran 12 1/2 minutes), but this one is pretty damn good.

Overall, the Nice were a good band, though not a great one. Emerson easily outshone his band members. Lee Jackson, the bassist, lyricist, and singer, was average at best. He really couldn't sing too well (especially compared to Greg Lake), and his lyrics and bass playing is workmanlike. Brian Davison is a good drummer (and a better musician than Lee Jackson), but no Carl Palmer. And many of the songs are not especially well constructed (especially the studio tracks on the first two albums). But if you really dig prog rock, there is enough here to make it a worthwhile listen.

  2. As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.

As a fanatical collector of Emerson, Lake, & Palmer material I can tell you first hand how the Nice should have gotten more accolades and into more record collections. When people discuss the birth of progressive rock they may talk about the Soft Machine or the brilliant second album by the Moody Blues ("Days Of Future Passed"). Factual history shows the Nice were formed and rehearsing music the same time the Moody Blues entered the studio for "Days Of Future Passed" (May 1967).

The Nice did sell their share of vinyl but it should have been in greater quantities. Even though many would discover the music after the fact as ELP's stellar albums and stage shows had the masses take note of the bands previous musical activities. Sometimes the only representation was a greatest hits package. While it gave an introduction to what the Nice were capable of, you need to fully digest the original recordings.

"Here Come the Nice: The Immediate Anthology", enables you to experience the first three releases- "The Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack", "Ars Longa Vita Brevis", and "The Nice." As an added bonus you'll get to feast on previously unreleased live recordings, demos, alternates, etc. On the first record the band had four pieces, Keith Emerson, Lee Jackson on bass and vocals, Brian Davison on drums, and Davy O'List on guitar and vocals. Davy and Keith didn't always see eye to eye and the band would soon become a trio.

During the festivities you most likely will recognize the definitive versions of "Rondo" and "America" but there is a plethora of additional genius. "Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack" is mesmerizing in capturing a bit of psychedelia, pop, and progressive in a short time span, "Cry of Eugene" is spellbinding in the way it attacks the mind with ferocious sounds, "Brandenburger" gives an insight to Keith Emerson's magic touch on any piano or keyboard, Tim Hardin's "Hang On To A Dream" is hauntingly arranged, and "Diary Of An Empty Day" fits into the neighborhood of "Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack."

These are only a handful of the standouts. Be prepared to explore something nice, very nice.

Enjoy the music and be well,
    Craig Fenton
Author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent"

  3. It was great to revisit some of the classic recordings. Everything else just seemed like overkill. How many different versions of America does any one listener really need? Apparently, judging by this set, there's always one more that they can pull out. Thank god for the skip track button on my steering wheel.

  4. The rarities included in this box set overcome the one or two shortcomings.

    PROS:
    1. The Sampler for the Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack LP is an extremely rare radio promo for the great 1967 first album.

    2. America : I) America/II) Second Amendment [Live Newcastle '68] is a rare live track that contains Davy O'List who is obviously on something here as he barely gets through the beggining of the number and is out of sync with the rest of the band, no wonder he was fired soon after this live recording.

    3. Pathetique Symphony 4th [Live Fairfields Hall '69]- They had already released the Pathetique Symphony movement 3, this is the rarely performed movement 4 with Lee Jacksons eerie narration.

    CONS:
    1. single 4 minute version of the Brandenburger is right after the long version of ARS LONGA Vita Brevis(brandenburger suite) which is a little redundant, they should of placed it on the 3rd rarities disc.

    2. Between Rondo "69" & She Belongs to Me (Live at Fillmore East, New York)there is an awful edit not heard on the original record "everything as nice as mother makes it" Keith originally says "this is a song by Bob Dylan call She Belongs to me" here he says "this is a song by Bo.......then the song starts abruptly,a bad edit of a classic live show from the Fillmore.

On a positive note, IF you get this, Five Bridges and Elegy, you'll have a complete Nice collection.

  5. In this compilation you will find everything you know about the Nice...and more!
Great presentation and better compilation of studio and live recordings.

5 comments about Time Traveller.

  1. This box set is ideal for those who:
    - Love the Moody Blues;
    - do not think all the past material was equally strong;
    - love Justin Hayward;
    - like John Lodge occasionally
    - don't give much for the Pinder/Thomas/Edge tunes;
    - move to a smaller house and feel the need to compress the CD collection.
Also, it's a nice package job (unfortunately not done by Pat Travers, that would have been something) with a colourful booklet included. What more could you want?

  2. I'd had a couple of the original Moody Blues albums as a teenager so I had a good notion that this box set would be enjoyable but I didn't dream that it would be as solid and consistent as it is. You could dub this entire history to your portable mp3 player, or at least the bulk of the set which covers the original albums that made the Moody Blues' reputations.

Up through the last song from "Seventh Sojourn" the entire thing is spotless. The remainder of the set could be consolidated to round out the third disk. The weak part? From disk 3 track 8 up until their revival with "In Your Wildest Dreams" the only keeper for me was "Stepping In A Slide Zone". But from "Wildest Dreams" through the end of the set the band sets new heights with song after song.

Is this the only Moody Blues set a person needs? For my money the classic album "Days of Future Passed" got shortchanged, represented by only the two hit singles. Unlike previous compilations however, both songs are here in their entirety rather than in edited single versions. "Cities", the b-side of "Nights in White Satin", dovetails perfectly with this collection and fills the role of lost gem quite nicely. The spoken introduction to the next album isn't named in the tracklisting but it's incorporated as one track with "Ride My Seesaw".

Album after album, songs are well-chosen, discreetly leaving the occasional number that sounds dated to history, emphasizing the timeless quality of the vast majority of the Moody Blues' music. When presented as a whole these albums seem to have a narrative, building to a climax in "Seventh Sojourn" that the band simply couldn't trump.

If you get the five disk version of this box set you'll find that the concert performances are pleasant but you don't need the Tin Pan Alley nouveau "This is the Moment". Disk five is nice but not essential so if it's out of print I'd strongly recommend the four disk version.

  3. This is one exceptional, yet at times frustrating, boxed set with terrific sound and liner notes. The first two discs cover all except one LP from the "Core Seven" - basically the first seven LPs the Lodge/Hayward era Moodies released. These two discs are simply outstanding and capture almost every worthy track from these LPs. The sequencing is excellent and the tracks still flow as well as they did on the original LPs. One puzzling exception is their first LP, the classic Days of Future Passed, which is only represented by "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon" - there are certainly other worthy tracks on that effort so I can only assume that when they selected the tracks they figured that every Moodies fan will want the entire "Days" CD anyway. Again most of the essential tracks are here with just a few exceptions.

Disc 3 is a bit more problematic: It starts off very well indeed with six of the eight tracks from "Seventh Sojourn" but then we get detoured with no less than six numbers from the Hayward/Lodge venture "The Blue Jays". The tracks aren't bad, some are quite good, but this is supposed to be a Moody Blues set, right? And we're not given any tracks from the solo efforts of Thomas, Edge, or Pinder. Then we get the "Justin-fronts-10cc" track "Blue Guitar" which is also very good but musically sounds more like a 10cc number than anything the Moodies ever produced. Then we're back into Moodies territory with three tracks from uneven "Octave" - two strong tracks "Steppin' in a Slide Zone" and "Driftwood", but I would have so preferred that they dropped "The Day We Meet Again" and replaced it with the beautiful "Had to Fall In Love" or energetic "I'll Be Level".

Disc 4, after another Hayward track, gets back on track with the rest of the Moodies catalog from "Long Distance Voyager" up through "Keys to the Kingdom" (possibly their weakest LP). "Long Distance Voyager" is considered by many the Moodies first and best LP from the 2nd phase of their career and it is excellent. So why we only get three songs from it is beyond me. Certainly Hayward's "Meanwhile" and Edge's "22,000 Days" would have made nice additions and, again, I would have preferred them over some of the tracks from "Blue Jays". "Other Side of Life", "The Present", "Sur La Mer", and "Keys to the Kingdom" are nicely represented with two or three tracks each from what were uneven albums (although "Want to Be With You" and "Deep" from Sur La Mer are both pretty strong). But since it's only the best tracks from these later efforts it's a consistently strong sampler of the more contemporary catalog.

So three and a half excellent discs of Moodies music which does a fine job at presenting the early catalog in depth and the post 1980 "hits". I do recommend supplementing with:
    1: "Days of Future Passed"
    2: "Long Distance Voyager" and
3: 1999s excellent "Strange Times" which sees a return to an earlier guitar based sound with some excellent compositions from Lodge and Hayward.

  4. For new or casual fans of the MB's (who, like myself, don't own every album they ever recorded), this set is a wonderful introduction to this awesome band. A lot of people not too familiar with the Moodies just assume the group was Justin Hayward (Nights In White Satin) and four more guys. Well, this collection will introduce you to the talents of John Lodge (incredible bassist, driving rock numbers, vocals and songwriting), Graeme Edge (one of rocks most overlooked drummers), Ray Thomas (great baritone voice, songwriter, and superb flutist), and Mike Pinder(sublime singer, piano, organ and king of the Mellotron).

This talented group are truly rock pioneers and THE most underrated band of all time. I would urge anyone who is interested in discovering the Moody Blues to get 'Time Traveller'. You will fall in love with these exquisitely talented men just as I and millions of other fans have.

  5. ive been listening to the moodies since i was born. this helped me to exxperience the different lengths in which their music entailed. it goes from the psychedelic to the eighties. not one song will one want to miss, every song is as good as the next. i love listening to their albums but when i dont want to constantly change cd's i pop in time traveller... i love this compilation!

  1. It's the first 3 albums, as advertised. 3 amazing albums though. Each cd has the red label with track listing design: I think other older Columbia albums were like that. The disks fit into the sides of that tall-shaped box easily enough, but you still get all 3 album jackets/booklets as well, just as if you bought them separately.

  1. I am 58 1/2 years old
My favorite music of all time is 50's doo wop and all the great music of the 60's.Oh and my mom's great music from the war years.
Gosh, come to think of it,I love it all !!

There is nothing that compares to these box sets from the 50's rock.
I suggest you get these sets, they are rare and a couple are already very
expensive. Here they are in no particular order.

Hot Rods & Custom Classics [BOX SET]
Rockin' Bones: 1950s Punk and Rockabilly
Loud, Fast & Out Of Control [BOX SET]
What a great, great set of music these box sets make.

Kids of today hopefully will explore these early rock sets.
They will be impossible to buy in a short time.
I paid an arm and a leg for Loud, Fast & Out Of Control [BOX SET] but what a gem !!!
These sets complement each other so beautifully.

I just sit and stare at them as I play them, remember how we sat and stared
at the album cover as the music played.
God,I sound like I am nutty as a fruit cake..
    Anyway..these sets are gorgeous !!

  2. This is a great set of '50's music, and standing alone it is pretty essential stuff. However, if you have already bought Rhino's Rockin' Bones set, you can pretty much dispose with picking this one up. That set has most of the rarities this one has at far below the larcenous prices some sellers ask.

Whereas Rockin' Bones is more narrowly focused on '50's Rockabilly, this one casts a broader net and revels more in music that the compilers envision the '50's juvenile delinquent set may have listened to. An interesting concept, but most any serious music collector is likely to already posess the rare cuts not on Rockin' Bones.

  3. Excellent compilation of singles (some well known, some not) reflecting the darker side of 50's rock. Comes colorfully packaged with a very informative and witty booklet.

  4. This is an amazing collection if you lived through this era or don't have a clue what all the fuss was about way back when. If this set doesn't make you smile, you're probably half-dead. Even with a few questionable choices and omissions, it'll make you more energized than a visit to Dr. Feelgood himself!!

  5. I may be old fashioned, but this is the music that make me go crazy!! I love it! This is the essential rock n' roll box set. 10 stars.

5 comments about Instant Live: The Odeon - Cleveland, OH, 3/09/04.

  1. To be honest, I'd have to give this whole concert only 4 stars since I don't like some of the songs much at all, but I created a playlist that's about the length of one CD that is all outstanding tunes, so I give the set five stars. First of all, I should say that I've been a Dickey Betts fan since the early 70s, and still go to see him frequently. Secondly, the series of numbers I think are absolutely first rate are Little Martha > Steady Rolling Man > Change My Way of Living > Donna Maria > Having a Good Time > Ramblin' Man > No One To Run With > Seven Turns > Jessica. As far as the band goes, I think all of the guys playing with him are excellent. I think if you get the collection, you'll find at least that the songs I list are great, and you may well find more.

  2. The "Instant Live" albums are spare in packaging and lacking in liner notes, but that's not really the point...if you're checking out live Dickey Betts, you probably know what you're in for.
Betts' vocals sound a bit rusty, but his playing, and that of co-lead guitarist Dan Toler, is top-notch, and the sound is terrific, clear and crisp.

The 18 tracks take up three discs, and while it would have been nice to hear a couple more songs from Betts' solo albums, you really can't complain about what is here. Robert Johnson covers, Allman Brothers classics, and an excellent new song only available on this album ("Girl With The Deep Blue Eyes", complete with some terrific instrumental breaks).
Betts shares lead vocals with keyboardist Michael Kach, whose voice is good if slightly inferior to Gregg Allman's, and one can't help but think that now and then Great Southern sound more like the Allman Brothers Band of old than the current version of ABB. But hey - all the better, right? Now we have two great "Allman Brothers Bands"...

This is one terrific find for guitar lovers (and ABB lovers as well). Perfect for a long drive along the highway, windows down. Or up. Whatever.

  3. The earlier reviewers are either hammering this or lauding this as Dickey's best. I've been seeing Dickey for 30 years both solo and with Allman Brothers and this is neither Dickey's best or his worst.
Dickey's song selection is fine here and a real treat for me was the opening Little Martha. His guitar playing as well as Dan Toler's is up to the usual standard (in other words it's excellent) but what has declined is Dickey's voice. It appears that his voice just isn't what it was in his glory days and that maybe almost 40 years on the road have taken its toll.
Listen to Dickey's voice here and then ABB or solo work from 70s and 80s. Now Dickey Betts at a little less than 100 percent is still very very good and still better than almost everyone else. 4.5 stars.

  4. I really don't see what the other reviewers are saying about Betts being sloppy, drunk or over the hill. He sings the way he has always sang, and maybe this band is not as tight as the ABB, but then who is? Great songs, great and long jams, sharp and melodious guitar solos and great audio quality.

His playing here rivals Clapton's in this year's Cream reunion.
Between the Cream live double cd and Bett's triple live cd, all jamband afficionados can hear how the original masters still can smoke. Where it all began, indeed.

If you like the ABB, southern rock or just great guitar playing, this is a great bargain!

  5. after reading the poor reviews on this disc i held off on buying it for a couple of months. i bought it and can't believe that there are a.b.b. fans not totally enjoying this cd. i have heard dickeys voice better at various live shows but this performance has alot of character. not perfect but some amazing moments on this cd and incredible song list. get it!!

  1. I am very pleased with the service and the item was shipped in very good shape and in a timely manner.

  2. i'M THE FIRST ONE TO REVIEW THE 4TH, BUT CERTAINLY NOT FINAL, RE-PACKAGE OF THE 1990 AEROSMITH BOX SET, SO HERE GOES...
WHAT YOU GET: A FANCY NEW PACKAGE MADE TO LOOK LIKE A HARDBOUND BOOK WITH THE SAME OLD BOOKLET FROM THE ORIGINAL BOX GLUED IN IT. LOUDER SOUND, NOT REMIXED, REMASTERED, OR "SUPER BIT MAPPED" (SBM MEANS NOTHING FOLKS, IT'S A SONY THING THAT THE SUITS MADE UP TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE THERE IS SOME KINDA IMPROVEMENT GOING ON). THE DBS ARE CRANKED UP SO THE DISCS SOUND GOOD ON A CHEAPIE DORM ROOM TYPE STEREO BUT FLAT AND LIFELESS ON A "REAL" STEREO. THE DISCS THEMSELVES HAVE CORNY NEW SILKSCREENS TO FURTHER MAKE THIS SET "DEFINITIVE". THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED THIS SON-OF-A-GUN "pandoras book" it would have made more sense.
I can'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GUTS THOUGH. CLUNKER FREE AEROSMITH. FROM STONERS TO COKE-HEADS AND BACK AGAIN, RAGS TO RICHES TO RAGS, KILLER RIFF, MIGHTY SCREAM, RINSE, REPEAT... SONY CAN'T SCREW IT UP, OH, THEY TRY... SQUASH THE BASS, DE-STEREOIZE HERE, RE-EQ THERE, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S 'SMITH, THE ONLY 'SMITH, THE ROCK N' ROLL 'SMITH (PRE-MTV). IF YOU DON'T GOT IT, GET IT, ANY FORMAT'LL DO, THEY'RE ALL COOL.
AEROSMITH ARE THE ONLY BAND I KNOW OF THAT MAKES 40 YEAR OLDS WANT TO "DO IT" IN THE BACK SEAT OF A CAR, BUZZIN ON MALT LIQUOR .... DOES LIFE GET ANY COOLER?

  1. If you feel like you'll have a love of this artist, it pays to buy this and get it all plus several alternate syd only takes. These I think show off his skill more then the gilmore produced with the backing band

  2. GRAN CANTIDAD DE EMOCIONES TE ENVUELVEN AL ESCUCHAR LOS TRES CD QUE REUNE ESTA CAJA...ASPERA MUSICA QUE TRATA DE MANTENER AL ARTISTA ENCENDIDO..ERRATICOS LATIDOS QUE FORMAN CANCIONES PARA PULSAR UN SENTIDO QUE VES PERDIDO...BELLEZA SENCILLA, AUSTERA, ANTIPATICA, GOZOSA POR MOMENTOS...PODES VER COMO EL ARTISTA VA CAYENDO EN UN CALEIDOSCOPIO DE TONOS GRISES, SALPICADO POR ARCO IRIS DE LLUVIAS SALADAS COMO LAGRIMAS..ES CIERTO, SYD YA SE HABIA IDO.. PERO DEJO ESTE LEGADO DE MUSICA HUMANA, IMPERFECTA Y HERMOSA COMO HUELLA.

  3. this box set is great but it isnt the end of the road for hardcore syd fans. I just got the box set entitled "Have you Got it all Yet?" which is a 7 disc set all about syd!!Track it down if your hardcore

  4. Syd Barrett will be greatly missed. His whimsical songwriting style was unique and greatly influenced many famous musicians like David Bowie. This cd is an essential purchase for those wishing a taste of genius.

  5. Long out of print in the USA, Crazy Diamond with its extra tracks and full color booklet gives an entirely complete look into the solo recordings of rock's most misunderstood man, Syd Barrett. A founding member of the Cambridge-based psychedelic pop group The Pink Floyd, Barrett left the band in 1968 after a series of mental breakdowns which led to his final demise as a recording artist in 1971. This box set compiles the known studio recordings, rehearsals and rough demos Barrett made for albums released on the Harvest label, "Madcap" - 1970, "Barrett" - 1970 and the "lost recordings album - "Opel" released in 1988.
Complete with new artwork and date/track listings - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! WOOF WOOF!!!
