  1. We bought the cd for the song Homeschool Girl and my five daughters and I have so much enjoyed the whole cd! They are ALL homeschool girls!!!!

  2. B.O.B.'s (Bunch of Believer's) first effort is great fun and great music. If you like Christian Ska, you should love this album. Since I first purchased it I find myself playing it again and again. Especially fun and catchy are "Mission Trip to Mexico", "Pastor Dancing", and the title track. On the other hand, their cover of the NewsBoy's classic "I'm Not Ashamed" and, especially, the statement of faith "What I Believe" are moving and memorable. I have committed "What I Believe" to memory and its infectious heavy guitar chords combined with it's meaningful message speak to me. All in all a great debut.

  1. This is definitely the very best of the Newsboys cds. I grew up listening to this cd. The lyrics (Steve Taylor, you rock!) are challenging and funny. The music is great, varied, and interesting- not just sounding like a variation on the same theme. The album art- alright, you get the message. Some of the best Christian music around- BUY THIS CD if you like Christian rock.

Has anyone else noticed that in the original case, if you take out the cd and pop out the plastic piece that holds the cd in place, there is a little picture of Peter Furler dressed up like an alien? With the plastic in place, all you can see is his eye...

  2. Hello, This album is a good CD. I like the music. The songs are good too. Especially the Take me to your leader.

  3. This is the album The Newsboys have not been able to top but should try to,although "Thrive" was a little close, but not close enough. The Newsboys sound like a full band here all the way through the disc, not leaving behind one bit of filler."Lost the Plot"is my personal favorite, the message is so "in your face""Reality","Breakfast",the title song, are all superb, to say the least. This album along with d.c.Talk's "Jesusfreak" are essential to any serious cd collection,really.............Enjoy!

  4. I think this is the best album made by the Newsboys. This was made while Stve Taylor was still writing lyrics for them. And if you know Steve Taylor's style it generally has some sarcasm which makes you think a little while you listen to the great sound of the music. Breakfast is a real classic song which shows off the talent of both Steve and Peter. If you like the way the Newsboys sound then you will like this album.

  5. I love this CD so,so much! Now,for my own little comments on each song:
God is not a secret 7/10 This song kinda sets the mood for the CD,not one of my favorites but,it's OK.
Take me to your leader 9/10 This one really draws you into the album, rock on!!
Breathe 6/10 This one has the best guitar in it,but the cymbals get on my nerves after a while.
    Reality 8/10 Nicely done percussion!
Breakfast 11/10 I think you get the point!
Let it go 9/10 This one calms things down a bit, very nice acoustics!
Cup o' tea 10/10 This song probaly is the hardest song on the CD.
It's all who you know 7/10 Nice guitar riffs!
miracle child 8/10 Starts off slow, but kinda get's a beat.
Lost the plot 6/10 Probaly my least favorite,it's just too long!
Breathe (benediction)9/10 A very sweet melody,I love the way Phil sings on this one!
Overall,a very awesome sounding album.I highly recommend this!

5 comments about My Utmost for His Highest: Quiet Prayers.

  1. I've had this CD for so long, I think I first purchased it as a cassette. My mom, sister and grandparents all have this CD has well. I think we're all on our 2nd or 3rd CD of this since we play it so much.

When my Grandmother was dying at home, we played this CD. It filled the house with so much peace. It was a comfort during a very stressful, painful time.

Most recently my Grandfather passed away and when we came back to his house from the hospital, we were all sitting around the living room, kind of numb, and we played this CD again. (It was still in the CD player from back when my Grandma died) We let the tears come and we allowed the music to minister to us.

Just this Thanksgiving we played it during Thanksgiving dinner - how relaxing it was to listen to this CD again! It was perfect for a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving to God.

I highly recommend this CD. It has blessed my family and me beyond measure.

  2. This is one the most cherished CDs I own. No matter if I'm angry, anxious, scared, whatever my state of mind...when I pop this CD in the player, I am drawn into the presence of God. I haven't run across another CD that is so full of authentic and sacred music. There is no track on this CD that fails to move me to a place where God and I are alone. Wonderful purchase.

  3. I have been looking for a Christian prayful mediatative soothing CD to help my nerves through these troubling times and found this CD to be my answer. His voice pitch, musical ability, choice of songs, etc., can provide medicine for the soul that no anti-depressant, psychologist, alcohol, drug, or new-age mumbo jumbo can provide. There is truly powerful comfort in this CD's presentation. If I have trouble sleeping, this CD resolves the issue. I hope others can find the same strength that I have found through his prayerful music.

  4. This recording always relaxes me. I can put it on and find that my mind wanders with it...thinking about God and coming back to the present then drifting back to God again. The music has a soothing presence that draws my spirit to the Lord. Also, I have never grown sick of listening to this collection. The songs tend to blend together, and then the next thing I know the music is over and I am sad to see the songs end.

I would definitely recommend this as a welcome addition to anyone's devotional music collection. But if you do get this recording, don't expect to be overwhelmed by the songs on the first listening. They are gentle songs that grow on you after some quiet reflection and time.

  5. This is the best CD for praying and having a quiet time. This helps me keep focusing on His words, and to maintain close retionship with Him.

  1. 5 stars, definately...although "Commonwealth" would also deserve 5 stars. Now thinking about it, I'm not so sure which I'd rate the best.

The thing I love about Plankeye is the honesty. This album (as well as the previously mentioned "Commonwealth") was released at a time in my life where music was the only comfort to me. Whenever I hear a song from these albums, especially songs like "Fall Down", "One or the Other" or Commonwealth's "Who Loves You More?", it takes me to a place of rememberance. Sure, times weren't so good then...but it's a comfort to reflect back and to think of how I made it through, God and His creation, music.

  2. This is an album I hated at first, but I thouroughly enjoy it now. Every Plankeye album sounds different, and this one has a radio pop-rock feel, somewhat like Thrid Eye Blind. Of course, with this being the great Plankeye, these songs contain a lot more depth than most radio garbage. "Fall Down" is absolutely beautiful, and paints a perfect picture of the struggle against oneself. Some of the more punk sounding cuts are good too. Most of these songs took a lot of getting used to though, and I still can't stand a couple of them. Over all, a good pop rock album with lots of depth for the genre.

  3. This CD, in my opinion is Plankeye's greatest project. When I heard the song "Fall Down", I was absolutely hooked on this CD! I love the first song and the last song, but Fall Down and Playground are my favorite songs. I learned to like the second one. I don't feel like writing much more becasue I have been writing reviews all day and I just want to make this point; PLANKEYE IS AWESOME IN THIS ALBUM!

  4. The final release from the group as a Scott Stiletta-led foursome, "One and Only" takes the raw power pop of "Commonwealth" and polishes it to a shimmer. With not one weak track present, the songs that are intended to rock do so, and the songs intended to move do likewise. The album opens with a bouncy modern rock number, "Someday", and extends that mood into the album climax "Compromise". A more reflective mood comes through in the anthem-like ballad "One or the Other", and the more upbeat doxology "Sterling". The concentrated groove of "Maybe Tomorrow" and the crisp outburst "Playground" show some slight musical modification, without wandering from standard modern rock territory. Lyrically, the record is subtler than previous outings, presenting situations of a life that strives to know the Lord, though often without mentioning Him specifically. Still, an excellent CD to complete the four album collection from these guys.

4 comments about Killing Time.

  1. Alot of people confuse this band with the american christian punk band of the same name. When infact they are an obscure 90's shoegaze band. Think Elastica meets lush. Sadly their only album, these guys remain in the shadow of their peers. If your into Dream pop/shoegaze I would totally pick this up. You can't beat the price.

  2. For all of you Christian punkers who feel disappointment that this band, the original Bleach, isn't what you're looking for, think again! This album is real punk, and much more. From the pounding & unwaivering drums, the searing sonic guitars, and the forceful and melodic vocals, few albums from the early 90's keep up the pace, the complexity, the heavenly noise, and the overwhelming driving beat of this album. Perhaps one of the decade's most criminally overlooked albums, Killing Time might convert you to the way rock & roll evolved into damned fine indie pop/punk bliss.

  3. Okay, when I bought this disk, I thought I was buying an album from the Christain punk band known as Bleach, this is not them however. The music is like 70's pot induced music, and it does not have a lyric sheet, even though it's quite clear that the female lead singer blasts the 'f' word ALOT. A big dissapointment even though I only paid 85 cents for it.

  4. The year 1992 was a historic one for anyone interested in British popular music. The greatest album of the 90's, "Spooky" by Lush, somehow managed to disappoint fans and critics alike. Some implied that the sound quality was too polished and not abrasive enough. Bleach's only album, "Killing Time" (1992), would appear to avoid those "shortcomings" while still sounding like a sister band of Lush. Salli Carson's singing style was breathtakingly similar to that of Miki Berenyi's-think "Blackout", with the sudden shift between a high angelic voice and a lower, Elastica-style, in-your-face snarl. While many girl-bands have been compared to 1996-era Lush, Bleach is the only one comparable to pre-1996 Lush. And now to some individual songs: "Paint My Face" is the most Lush-like song ever recorded, with soaring angelic vocals and stratospheric, dreamy guitars from guitar hero Neil Singleton. "Push" is an fast, overwhelming rush of Ned's Atomic Dustbin-style guitars and rhythm sung in Carson's aggressive, lower voice-notice how she shifts speeds in mid-sentence. This is a very intense album that's both dreamy and aggressive and worthy of the glory of Lush. The talent is obvious and it's a shame the band disappeared without getting a chance to be heard-they could easily have been as popular as Elastica or the Cranberries.
