  1. What can I say? I really hate that the Raiderz didn't bang back with sommore albums cause Prepare 4 Tha Spillage is a TRUE HOLY HIP HOP CLASSIC...no jokes. From start to finish, the production, the flows, the meltin' of the metaphors and the sound theology is comparable to that of Cross Movement when they dropped their 1st 2 joints. It's almost 10 years laterm and the Spillage is still bangin' in the speakers, mayne. Jah Love...One Lord, One Faith...OUT.

  3. Yo this Cd was hype if you a TRUE fan of hip hop and you want to hear a CD all about the GOD that saved you get this joint it's hott

  4. The bible says that anything that has breath should praise the Lord. This is what I think of when I hear Prepare for the Spillage. When I listened to secular Hip-Hop or Rap I thought that groups like Wu-tang, Mobb Deep, or Nas, were among the best but after listening to Raiderz of the Lost, Knowdaverbs, etc. I realize who the best is. Continue to let the Lord use you for his glory in spite of. God Bless.

  5. one word inparational phat hot bad(but in a good way) just a nice job on a christian cd "The Story" gave me chills the first time i listened too it if you ain't heard it hear it soon

  1. Alot of good clean rap songs on here. Grits is a good christian rap.
Alot of good rap song here on this very cd. Like it very much.

  2. I really didn't enjoy this CD. It praises Jesus well, but as far as it's appeal to the 18-21 hip hop crowd, this really strikes me as boring. I feel like I'm being lectured by old folk rather than feeling the music.

  3. I was truly surprised when I listened to this CD. I had left the world of secular rap music and decided that I was not going to even try to listen to anyone rap about Jesus. That was until I heard this CD. It has definetly changed my opinion about listening to rap music. I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys rap music.

  4. All things being equal (beats, flow, Christian content) I thought there was only about 4 really great songs on Dichotomy B. I felt that this cd was a step down from Dichotomy A in that with Dichotomy A I skipt maybe 2 songs. On Dichotomy B I rarely listen to it and have put those 4 songs on my personal Grits greatest hits cd. Although Grits had 2 albums prior to Grammatical Revolution, I think they came into their own on Grammatical Revolution which was close to perfect, dropped some with Art of Translation, came back to great heights rivaling Grammatical Revolution with Dichotomy A and continued their spiratic placement with a step down with Dichotomy B. That being said I still love these guys. I love Bonafide's and Coffee's contrasting rap styles and I think they really compliment each other. These guys arent afraid to take chances, hit or miss, which if you have heard their last 4 albums you know how different the styles are but held together fast by their rap game and ultimatly their love for Christ.

  5. This is a very enjoyable album to listen to as you're going through your day. They have good music and great lyrics. I am now officially a fan of Grits.

  1. this was a great CD by far. I do not listen to a lot of rap but I bought this CD for my husband and we both love it. I also took it and gave to friends at church and they love it too!!

  2. This CD not only was to help on those long trips with Youth in my vehicle, but I really enjoy it too. This cd is filled with the Holy Spirit. The Youth in my church are looking to purchase this very cd for themselves.

  3. Yeah, it's a good CD but it's not really my taste. I guess it's street-gospel-hip-hop... so it's not really my style but if you're into any one of the groups ull like the variety (the music seems to be the same all around.)

  4. I really enjoy the variety of artists on this CD. My favorite songs are "Raw & Uncut" "You & Me" "Holy Ghost Party" and "Praise Him" I'll definetly have to check out the 2nd Holy Hip Hop cd.

  5. "Holy Hip Hop: Taking the Gospel to the Streets" is a definite must for any Christian rap fan, either a veteran fan of the genre or a beginning rookie listener. This compilation has some flavor from other types of music (R&B, reggae and definitely rap). Produced by Christopher "Play" Martin (for those of you that don't know-a former member of Kid 'n Play from back in the 1980's) and veteran supervising producer, David "Damonsta" Lynch, the hits are blazing off the meter! Featuring music from up and newcomers ShonLock ("Boogie Bounce"), Shei Atkins ("Praise Him"), Ziklag (the bass-filled "Raw & Uncut"), R. Jones ("I Pray"), FTF ("Fireproof"), R-Swift ("Night Sweats") and Infinity featuring Linkz (the reggae-pumped "Holy Ghost Party"), plus with music from established Christian artists like Dynamic Twins ("This Is Me"), Canton Jones (the soothing ole-to-the-Lord jam, "You and Me"), Izreal ("I Pray") and Mr. Del (the down South bumper, "Shake 'Em off"), this CD is a definite one for the clubs, Christian or otherwise. Mariaha Markel's spoken word, "Dedication to Holy Hip Hop", narrations by Andre Williams and the hidden bonus track, Eastwood's West Coast fueled, "L.A.", helps to round out the disc on a positive note. If you're a beginning fan or a veteran listener of Christian rap and hip-hop, then Holy Hip Hop: Taking the Gospel to the Streets is for you! Go out and buy that! You won't be disappointed! Praise the Lord!

  1. THIS IS A GREAT SPECIAL EDITION YOU GET THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSERY EDITION OF THEIR THIRD STUDIO RECORD FREE AT LAST AND YOU GET THE NEVER BEFORE RELEASED MOVIE WHEN I WAS WATCHING IT I THOUGHT IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE IT WAS NEVER RELEASED.YOU ALSO GET THE VIDEOS TO THE HARDWAY AND JESUS IS JUST ALRIGHT. ON THE CD YOU GET SOME AUDIO COMMENTARY TRACKS AND A NEWLY RECORDED VERSION OF THE HARDWAY WHICH IS MORE UP BEAT I HIGHLY ADVISE YOU TO BUY THIS

  2. I remember back in 1993 me and my younger brother would spend time after school at the Christian Family Center where my dad worked at. DC Talk came back to my town because there manager is from here and so the band always starts a new tour at the CFC. The band came and rehearsed here and met me and my brother hanging around. They were the best guys you could concive of. They hung out with us, ate lunch with us and even let us watch rehearsals and come back stage afterwards. I should mention that my brother has special needs and a learning disability. This contributed even more to how floored I was when Kevin Max Smith himself gave my whole family 4 of his personal tickets to the very first Free At Last concert ever, for free.I was only 9 and my brother 7. It was the best, most all time uplifting concert of my life and made me a fan forever. Before the show they played the music video for The Hardway which they shot at the prison in Jackson MI.(20 minutes from my house)I was in owe and bought my first CD that night at the concert. DC Talk Free At Last, the original and still best of them all truly.Boy i'd give anything to see The Hardway video again!

  4. I first heard dctalk's Consume Me on a friend's cd. I thought how different they sounded. But what got me into them was the song, Jesus Freak. I now have this, and Supernatural, & my brother has Intermission:Greatest Hits. So, naturally when I heard this came out, I HAD to get it. The music is terrific, w/ funny add ins. + the Movie is really good. I love seeing how Toby,Mike, and Kevin project their faith thru concerts and their every day lives. The only downside is that it occured to me that there is a whole other generation out thier who has been touched by dcTAlk. Since, I was a toddler during the FAL days, I'm glad this was released, so another generation could enjoy thier music.

P.S. The movie extras (deleted scenes etc.) are great too!

  5. I remember when I first heard Free At Last back in 1993. Up till then, I had never really been into music, nothing really ever interested me. And then one day I heard "Jesus is still alright", and I was intrigued. Not only was Free At Last different musically from most everything I'd heard before (the combination of hip-hop and rock with pop sensibilities was, and is, to this day, rarely acheived as well as on F.A.L. And then I heard even better songs like Say The Words, Time Is, and The Hardway, and suddenly my love affair with music was in full bloom. The Free At Last Tour was even my first concert!
A decade later, I am myself a striving musician, and though my tastes in music are much different from the stylings of Free At Last today, I still find this record very listenable and relevant. When I first saw the dvd of Free At Last The Movie, I was taken back to that first concert...lost in the beauty of the sound of Say The Words played live...and memories of the emotion of that show came flooding back to me, reminding me why I love music so much.
This dvd also offers some revealing glimpses into the lives of the members of DC Talk. There were even a few of those "wow, I can't believe they didn't edit that out" glimpses into the guys flaws...But that was the point of this movie in the first place I believe. They wanted us to see past the stagelights, hear beyond the production, and see a side of a band that struggles to balance art, humility, and success. I won't go into any more detail. Just BUY THIS DVD.......it may be even more impressive than the original CD.

2 comments about Holy Hip Hop: Taking the Gospel to the Streets, Vol. 2.

  1. I like the variety of rappers on this CD. Most songs have great lyrics.

  2. "Holy Hip Hop: Taking the Gospel to the Streets-Vol. 2" is the follow-up to the highly successful "Holy Hip Hop-Vol. 1". Produced by Christopher "Play" Martin (of Kid 'n Play fame) and C.J. Wickman, it tries hard to continue the success of its predecessor. The messages are still there-to give the Lord the ultimate praise, but there's some new acts carrying on the message to all of the Lord's people. The first track by The Preachaholicz, "Club Blazer", helps to get the disc off to a good start, while songs by 2Godio ("World Listen"), Karusso's "Why I Write", Rhymes Elect and LaTisha Spence's "Love Concept", F.I.R.E.'s thumping "Dis My Life" and 2Five's street anthem, "In Da Streetz", helps to round out the sound. Other highlights are Sean Slaughter with "Die Daily", The Spiritual Lyricist and M. "Sonny Smith"'s "No Greater Love", Indascreet's catchy "Miracles" and the bumping hidden "Bonus Track" by King Ray keeps the CD bumping, bumping! Prizm's radical "Watch Ya Back" helps to put the song into perspective about who's side we all should be on and Andre Williams returns with the familiar voice as the MC in between songs. In conclusion, all of the artists on this are new to the Christian hip-hop rap game. Without any of the artists from the first one, it makes this release alright to listen to. Don't just blow off this release because it still praises the Lord nevertheless and the artists gave their all with this. If you have the first one, then pick up this one too. This CD is worth it. Praise the Lord!

  1. I love this group and this new cd is the BEST so far! Some may remember them as Souljahz, but no matter what name they use, they still have the anointing on them. Even with one member missing (their brother), they still make it HOT!!! Get this cd and you won't be disappointed! My favorite song is "Diamonds," and it speaks to young girls on how to be a "diamond!"

If this is your first time hearing of them, check out thier first cd "The Fault is History" under the name "Souljahz." God is all over this cd and at the same time it's a cd that will make the world stop and ask you: "Who's that you're listening to, that's HOT! I havn't heard of them yet!"

Washington Projects has my vote for one of the best cds of 2008!!!

  1. I've had this tape for years, and I still think it's the best old-skool rap album I've ever heard, because the songs are actually well-written, with nice hooks, and some surprisingly original tunes that aren't too repetitive (except for a couple tracks). Great lyrics too. Definitely a lot of late 80's hard rock influence, especially on Vigilante of Rhyme, which has some killer guitar work.

3 comments about Illumination.

  1. sup the chemist is one of the dopest emcees in the holy hip hop industry. back in the day good christian rap music was so hard to find, i always had to order them from a catolog. this ablum illumination is one of my favorite albums he did (eargasmic arrangements is my absolute favorite which you can still order from www.sphereofhiphop.com - could not find any used ones on amazon yet), i agree with the previous reviewer this album is underrated. the only song on this album that is preachy is track 8 (How I Cope). i love the way he rhymes and delivers his messages. this album by no means is weak and i don't care what none of you people say this album is not weak. my favorite tracks that rings in my head is One Time, C-Mode Fizzunk, and Don't Nap. It sucks that all the SFC albums are out of print but since there are some used ones left take advantage and buy them cause once there gone ya never know if they will be available again. God Bless!!

  2. Thoughtful, creative, hip-hop that deserved a wider audience, all the SFC discs are hard-to-find. Others are "Listen Up", "Phase 3", and the awesome "Saved Man in the Jungle".

More than just Christian rap, the albums are just plain great hip-hop!

  3. "Illumination" is one of the most underrated hip-hop albums. Almost every song is highly compelling. The arrangements are creative and fresh as the artistic integrity is high. Most songs have a jazzy feel, either by using old jazz samples or the creation of original music. In fact, most of the music sounds like it was played by actual musicans with real instruments -something which can be rare in the genre's typically processed soundscape. This aspect will appeal to those who enjoy music by performers/groups such as Us3, Guru and the Roots. The disc even has a few jazz meets poetry tracks. Sup the Chemist has a great singing and rapping voice. His vocal style is surprisingly clean with regards to articulation and pronunciation. As with most rap music from the time period, the song themes revolve around urban authenticity. 'The Vibe' and 'Phat' are the two tracks that will run through your mind hours after the stereo has been turned off. I was surprised to eventually find out that this is a 'Christian Rap' album. The primary evidence for this is track eight, which is the only 'preachy' song. If you're like me (and not a Christian), I recommend that you not let religious orientation interfere with your enjoyment of SFC (Soldiers For Christ). While it is a tragedy that this album is currently out-of-print, you could pick up a few used copies for under five bucks at the time of review. Give this unappreciated gem a try!
