  1. Another fun and quality album by Toby Mac.
As a teenager I enjoyed DC Talk, but am so glad that Toby Mac went solo. I have enjoyed all of his albums, as well as many of his concerts. I have a hard time listening to kiddie music, so I love it that my 3-year old would rather listen to Toby Mac than her music. :)

  2. First off he throws down a song unlike any Christian artist. I am new to the Tobymac music this year and can tell you I love it. His sound/genre seems to change depending on the song.

If 311/limpbizkit/blackeyedpeas/Rancid etc were Christian artists and you rolled them up into one. This is what you get. I would like to see him release more music like this album and Diverse City.

His remixed cds are also very good, which is rare in the remix world of bad cds.

  3. I love every single song on this CD especially the last..."I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY SOUL". Doesn't get much better than this.

  4. I am a big fan now and recommend it to everyone.
This cd sounds pretty good in our audio system. Love the lyrics all the way around! We actually love alot of bass sounds and some of these songs had it but the majority of them didnt! Its still great anyway :)

  5. I love this album. It is incredibly catchy, groovy, and just an excellent showing of musicianship. Toby Mac is an awesome songwriter and the lyrics, are an amazing profession of his faith.

  1. This album is replite with Godly lyrics and awesome beats. In this album Trip encourages his audience to focus not on him or his music, but to let his ministry point them to God whom should be our main focus in all things. Each new album released by Reach Records and CMR continues to amaze me with each artist's ability to skillfully present the Word with true lyrical talent that keeps your head nodding. Trip Lee's latest album is no exception. If you ain't got it. Get it!

  2. I love this cd as well my little brother who I bought it for. This cd is playing non stop. The students at the youth ministry where I serve are excited about 20/20. Not only do they have a awesome alternative to secular hip hop, the are learning sound Christian doctorine!!!!

  3. All i can say is that those who do not have this album because they do not value "christian rap" are all loosing a great thing. This is a classic and the best album i have heard in 2008 for the instant. It seems Trip has take a huge step to become one of the best rapper in the world and know what he is all for Jesus. This is a good use of a talent.

  4. Trip Lee has blessed the Body of Christ and the world with such a prolific and anointed project. This project declares the truth of the Gospel and has the music to grab this generation. I highly recommend this project to everyone especially if you love Hip Hop. This project must be a part of your collection.

Trip Lee has a heart to proclaim the truth. If you love Da T.R.U.T.H., you will definitely love this project. You will not be disappoint with what God has given this young man.

    PD

  5. Ok so I'm going to go against the grain about my review of this cd. Apparently my take on the album is contrary to everyone else's, but that's ok. This cd lyrically is a 5/5. This cd's overall flow, beats, and how they fit with the artist (Trip Lee) is a 2/5. I believe if he combined his beats and style from the first album with the lyrics from this one it'd be a 5/5. Everyone loves Trip and his unique style-that works well, but it wears on you quickly on this cd. Trip is at his best when he's rapping on upbeat beats. It's always hard to rate Christian cd's by artists who are doctrinally sound because people get offended, but lyrics aside this cd leaves some things to be desired.

    Songs 1-5 are HOT!
Songs 6-10 are NOT! Again I'm not referring to his message or lyrical content, but the overall sound. I literally found myself dozing on a few of these songs. This overall album was slow.
Songs 10 and 11 are good, but song 12 w/Cam and Lecrae is the best song on the cd.

I love the message in Eyes Open w/J.R., but J.R.'s sound was distracting. I do like this song ok though. Intimacy w/Diamone singing the hook is a good song. So overall the cd isn't a horrible one, but I'd say it's average and that's because I know Trip Lee is extremely talented and has way more potential overall than demonstrated on this album.

A suggestion for his next release is more cameo's by other artists. It helps keeps the cd from getting redundant.

  1. Let me first state that Delirious is my favorite band (with David Crowder Band coming in a close second). So I had very LARGE expectations with this album and I can proudly say that this is my favorite album of 2008 so far (even better than Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and Leeland's "The Opposite Way"). Delirious brings their signature sounds with Kingdom of Comfort (great guitar sounds, passionate vocals, and thumping bass and rhythm). And in my opinion, this is their BEST album to date. The D-Boys bring songs that are both catchy, thought-provoking, and action oriented. It is an album where the music and the lyrics are at the top of their game.

My favorite songs are: God is Smiling, Love Will Find A Way, We Give You Praise, Kingdom Of Comfort, Wonder, and How Sweet The Name...although I could probably add Break The Silence and Give What You Got to that list, too. And that shows you how many great songs are on this one disc.

I just saw Delirious live the other night (in Virginia) and they were amazing. It was almost two hours worth of song after song after song that was amazing. What a bunch of talented individuals who had a smile on their face the whole night. And it says a lot that when it was over, I could think of at least a dozen songs that they DID NOT play that I wished they had. That's how great they are. Buy this CD IMMEDIATELY and you will not be disappointed. These guys are still putting out quality music that gets better and better each disc (whereas some groups seem to be on the decline).

  2. This is wonderful!! Great, inspired lyrics and really good music...such a good follow up to their last release :)

  4. I have not heard much music from Delirious? until this year really. Alot of it is because I don't have a radio in my house or my car nor do I have TV programing such as cable or satelite. However, I wanted to give my mother a gift to take her to a Joyce Meyer Conference and Delirious was the band that brought the presence of God through the worship at the Winston Salem, NC Joyce Meyer conference 2008. I fell in love with their heart for God's heart! They really truely are after God's own heart and they are so very humble. I loved how they did not make it all about them but all about God. They sung many of the songs from their new album at the conference and I fell in love with their songs but one that really tocuhed me was "We Give You Praise". I absolutely love their songs and I will be a FAN for LIFE! I am purcahsing this New CD and I will be purchasing their other CD's previous to this one! Praise the Lord we have people that LOVE GOD for WHO HE IS and is willing to SEEK HIM and HIS DESIRES FOR THE KINGDOM!

  5. I have been a fan of Delirious? for about 6 to 7 years. Each album is different in sound, message, and intensity. Kingdom of Comfort is probably the most "in your face" album to date. The D-Boys have been doing some traveling and it is no doubt that this last period between albums has caused them to ask themselves the hard questions.
The message of this album deals western complacency in the face of global hunger, poverty and sorrow. Each song addresses not the only the need to act but the need to make sure that we do in Jesus name. The song "How sweet the name" may be the most incredible song that I have ever heard Delirious? perform, and that is saying a lot since I love every song they do.
The musical composition is very different than the last two studio albums. There is definitely some hard rock in this album. There is also a lot of reflective and intense songs that make you think and challenge your walk with God.
Delirious? has remained a band that is predominantly unsung, and it is a shame. The cotton candy bands that tell people "Your nice. God's nice, so be nice." have served to dull people's senses to the truth. A number of these bands always focus on singing about their experiences and the gospel as it is in relation to themselves. D-Boys do more than that. They don't want to numb you and feed the fires of indifference. They want to stir you up to take the gospel to the world. They make it very clear in this album that it is not about us, but it is about the hurting and helpless.
All in all a great album that will be on my playlist for a very long time to come.

  1. i keep this album blastin all the time! and what i love about lecrae is that he does a good job of keepin the focus on Christ and salvation.... def a great album for Christians and non-Christians alike.

  2. I highly recommend this album. Lecrae spits some serious words on top of some killer beats. The 116 crew is definitely holding it down.....all for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. The words are deep.....real deep. Don't think twice......buy it!

  3. This album was awesome. Lacrae steps out in boldness through Jesus Christ. It's good fruit for the spirit.

  4. My son wanted this one. It is not my choice in music....but then I am not 21. I will say this though...the guy CAN sing....the last song on the CD proved that. So, after hearing what I do not consider "real" music, it was a pleasent suprise. I will admit the message is fairly clear.

  5. I bought this CD for my husband who is a crazy about secular rap to see how he reacts to this Christian Rap well I downloaded it on my computer and this CD is amazing. I see why everyone has a good review for Lecrae because he is truly talented and using his talent to glorify God. Every song has a positve message about what Christ has done for us. I believe this CD and Flame's Our Fallen World will reach out to alot of unsaved and people who struggle to live a saved life if they truly want to live for God. THIS CD IS A MUST BUY! Buy one for yourself a family member or friend pass the Word of God through Christian Rap around.

  1. This is somewhat of a continuation of Emmanuel Jal's mission of spreading peace and love that began with his compilation with Sadir on Ceasefire. Most of the songs pertain to trying to effect peace in Sudan and other African countries. This time the album is mostly in English which gives it a different sound and feel from Ceasefire.
I like Jal, but he needs to work on his delivery when using the english language. I understand that he is sharing a message of peace and sharing his story and that of other Sudanese lost boys, but for it to be effective he has to be an effective performance. Jal seems effect great responses from live crowds, but its not the same on wax.

5 comments about Group 1 Crew.

  1. I just heard this group for the very first maybe 3 weeks ago while watching INSP and I was Amazon looking up a copy of their cd by the time the video went off the tv!!! I am hooked now. Great cd!

  2. I first heard the group Group 1 Crew featured on the hit TV show One Tree Hill! Their song Forgive Me was featured on this hit show and oh my goodness as I listened to the words and the chours about Palms 23. I was like oh my goodness whatever this song is called and whoever this group is I have to find them!! So I went on the the CW website and found the One Tree Hill part of the site and I remember finding that song and when I did I was so happy!! I downloaded the song and when I finally got to listen to it up close and personal I was like WOW!! This song has hip-hop and R&B beats with a positive message that will reach young people like it did myself.

A few weeks later I was looking up information on the WinterJam 2008 concert that was coming to my area I wanted to see who was going to be performing etc... As I was looking at the list of performers not only was the group Skillet going to be there but, so was Group 1 Crew!! I was so excited and knew I wanted to go not only to see Skillet but, Group 1 Crew as well!!

January 12, 2008 came and I was so bummed out because I didn't think that my Mom & I would be able to go and if it was not for my sister we probably would not have been able to attend. We get to the civic center and while we are waiting for the show to start I was looking at the booklet that was being given to people as they were coming in the door and my Mom showed me the page where Group 1 Crew was featured and I started reading a little bit about them. Now here is the part where I have to be honest I was not sure while waiting for the show to start if I was really going to become a fan of their music or just really really like the song Forgive Me that was featured on One Tree Hill. When Group 1 Crew was announced and I started listening to Blanca Pablo and Manwell I was just amazed at how well that these 3 totally different voices sounded so beautiful together!! The energy and the compassion they have for what they are singing about will get you up out of your seat, bed, couch wherever you are and you will want to sing and dance!!

Now because I had already loved their song Forgive Me before I had seen them live I knew I wanted to give their music a chance and so my Mom bought me a T-shirt CD combo pack and I got home that night just floating on cloud 9 not only because I had fallen in love with this group's music but, also because I got to meet them and get their autographs!!!!

There is one more thing I absolutely love about them not only is there music awesome and beautiful but, there are no stars in this group it is about everyone in the group and everyone's contributions and what each member brings to the group it's not just about one person it is about the group as a whole and that is where their name Group 1 Crew comes in at.

So, all I'm trying to say is if you are looking for a group who's music has R&B & Hip-hop beats with a message of true love and hope and when you're feeling down and out and feel that no one on this planet loves you and all around has a great mesage about our Heavenly Father's love for all of His children and you are looking for encouragement and peace then look no further as Group 1 Crew if you buy their album I promise you, you will not be disappointed!!!

  3. "No Plan B", "Let It Roll", "Clay Ya Hands" are the highlights of the album, they are a nice alternative to the [bleep] that is being put out these days in the world of rap and hip-hop. The group needs to focus on this type of song, because that's their strong suit. The rest of the album is just OK.

  4. Oh man, when I stumbled on this group, I was thrilled! As everyone else has said, their style is very unique and just really accessible for all types of music lovers! I can't believe this is Christian music - so refreshing! Great message, great music - they have tremendous amounts of talent and can't wait for more from them!

They really do remind me of the Black Eyed Peas, but I would go out on a limb and say this is BETTER... And I do like the Black Eyed Peas!

    THANK YOU GROUP 1 CREW!!!

  5. My son bought this CD, but I love the music even if it is new school! God bless Group 1!

  1. This CD is nothing short of simply freakin amazing! I love it and I'm happy I bought. Tracks like Joyful Noise and Hold On are crazy, but every track on the cd is good. Worth the money!

  2. The best preachers making music today are in rap or hip hop, and among them, FLAME is top-notch. Biblical quotes and allusions saturate his lyrics, and he also references some of today's best theologians. Above all, FLAME's music pulses with a passion for the Gospel.

I insistently recommend this CD to any who love hip hop, or those who might be willing to expand their musical tastes to behold the power of its lyrics, as I did.

  3. I had bought his first one"Our World Fallen" and he truly brought a message everyone needed to hear but when I saw that he was going to do another one to this,I got excited and had to listen to this.I have to say this is the best Christian Rap cd I have heard since Cross Movement did their last album.Flame made me just sit there with my mouth open with awesome Lyrics, fantastic beats and a message that the world could use right now.If you have never heard of Flame, you had to have been hiding under a rock, you must get this,no matter what the price is!He will bless your soul!

  4. This cd is Flame's best yet and easily one of CMR's Top 5 of all time. From start to finish it's fire with huge standouts being: Hold On, Go Buck, See More Him, I Been Redeemed, It's All Gone Pass, and the best song of 2008...JOYFUL NOISE! This song alone warrants you purchasing the entire album. Did I mention that the lyrics were fire and doctrinally sound as usual? Praise God for how HE's using Flame to minister. This cd is hot!

  5. Look I'm new to this christian hip hop world by on the realz "Wow!"
Flames set the standard pretty up high on this one. For my first Christian Hip hop ablum this is tight work! It's been nearly a month and it's all I play!

5 comments about The Password: Access Granted.

  1. First, I'm not a hater. I'm new to Canton Jones and love his music. This cd has a problem with the guest rappers on songs, not Canton himself. First track 'Doin it Big': One rapper states "...got their panties up in a bunch" - not the worse thing you can say, but do you really want your kids or should you really repeat that line ever? No. Second track 'General' (Not gigolo - as the other reviewer stated): One rapper states "I keep guns, guns, lots of guns, I tote heat..." Now, the song is about demon killing, BUT this rapper never states what those guns are referring to. Most people can assume he means scriptures, but why assume? Take it at face value, again do you really want your kids or you to repeat that. Now what makes me take this rapper as meaning real guns, he later states "When you open up the trunk and smell like skunk..." now, i don't know what he's talking about. Cause in the secular world 'skunk' is a reference to weed, but maybe I'm getting too picky. Up to this point I still would have given this album 3 stars. Third Track 'Warrior': I am shocked and very sad that no one stated this before, but the guess rapper near the end of this song actually swears using the f-word. Using the f-word, and this is classified christian AUTOMATIC 1 star! If you can't put this on and feel it would be safe for your kids or yourself. 1 star. I think because it's the rappers, no one may have really listened to what they were saying but, unless you have editing software, skip this cd...buy his Kingdom Business, which is clean and great! I'm just saying what I wish someone would have told me before I got this cd, but I actually have editing software.

  2. Canton Jones is a great artist. His CD's have something for everyone. They are an inspiration to the spirit.

  3. I love this cd yall, had it for a minute and it still gets rocked on a regular basis. im a die hard cross movement fan but had to venture out of the fam to pick this one up... so nice to see Christians putting out decent, current, and relevant music for today

  4. I love it all. It is great way to ride, work out, and sit and meditate and still be fed with the word and good values.

  5. I love this album. I mainly bought it because of the song "Password (Live)" because it's like a hip-hop-praise & worship song. I wish I didn't buy this album so late, but it was worth the buy. The only song I'm not crazy about is "Doin it Big". I love the music, but it has too much rapper's vanity in it for me. If I wanted to hear that I would've bought a secular rapper's album. What I want to hear is a rapper boast about God. So I unfortunately skip this track. It's unfortunate because I really like the track but the lyrics is not edifying for me. Other than that, it's a cool album. I will more than likely be buying his new album Kingdom Business in September. I just hope it's not loaded with rapper's vanity.

  1. This album is awesome! They made music that really spoke to me and how I really am. DC Talk is just a fun group that make good music worshipping God and you cant beat that.

  2. I'm gay*

Now that I have your attention, lemme stop for a second and talk about this great album. This album belongs to the dreaded genre known as Christian rock. But it's still a shining beacon in a sea of nothingness, and it's guiding you to the world of Christianity in the eyes of Talt, Smith, and McKeehan, with a little help from their friends.

Well, before I rant on about the songs, you must give credit to the numerous musicians that led a hand making the infectious music. Not to mention Mark Heimermann, who gets songwriting credits on nearly every song. I think he mostly produced it, but I was a little unimpressed to figure out the three main guys didn't write the songs alone. The thing is, did Mark write it? Fustrating stuff, but I must take of five points for the score. It's my review!

Alright, with everything bad out of the way (that's not much. There's a laundry list for most Christian rock), I got nothing but praise for this album. dc Talk knock down walls on this album, both vocally and musically (at least for christian rock). The editorial reviewer is right, this album is an oddity, and unlike the knocking down walls, the sound itself is one of a kind, in a lot of music. The great thing is how great it actually is. Diversity and breaking of rules means nothing if it sucks. Not the case with Jesus Freak. The music is memorable, dense, catchy, and, it just sounds great. It won't bore you at all.

The vocals, for the most part, are excellent. There's some rapping, soulful singing, and it sounds remarkably their own. Which is great, but they, as a whole, are great singers. Original? Who cares. They sound great together, and that's what counts. While they never played any instruments, they are like a compact, powerful trio, only in vocal form. At least in my opinion.

Finally, the lyrics. Typical lyrics? Nope. There are some great messages on this album, not the typical "I love you god" _____ that so many bands do. Read into them, it tops it. I give more flying _________ about the music.

One cavet though, if you are not a Christian, skip this one. The music may be sensual to you, but it may not affect you, because the music can't move you with the lyrics. Indeed, this was made for Christians (well everybody, but Christians will most likely get something out of this). Atheists will probalely be turned off from it. If you are a Christian, buy it now. Render Amy Grant useless.

    9.5/10

*Not true. Seriously. If I were gay, it would show (not in my music!)

  3. I bought this tape back in the 1990's when it came out. I immediately liked their sound. I have 3 of their CD's now, but this is my favorite. The lead singer has a great voice and their sound is similar to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Good messages as well.

  4. I believe DC Talk to the greatest band to ever walk the earth. Toby Mac is a brilliant producer, and the group as a whole are some of the finest talents you will ever find. Their diversity is profound, as each of their albums conforms to the popular sound of the year it was released, and as such each of their albums is drastically different from the other.

For Jesus Freak, the genre was Grunge/Rock...and this album is UNBELIEVABLY good. Arguably the best they produced. This album is also quite possibly one of the greatest the Christian music industry has ever produced.

  5. 'Jesus Freak' may well be the greatest album in the history of rock music. At the very least, it is the best album in the annals of Christian rock.

It has something for everyone. This collection includes several genres including pop, rock, rap, and grunge. Very few groups could pull off what they do with this album. Most bands are lucky to do one genre well, let alone several.

Among the best songs on this album are the following: So Help Me God, Colored People, Jesus Freak, What If I Stumble, and In the Light. Several others are very good also.

This is an album that never gets old. It is one that is fun to listen to anytime. Highly recommended!

5 comments about The Art of Breaking.

  1. THE BAND: Trevor McNevan (vocals, guitars), Joel Bruyere (bass), Steve Augustine (drums & percussion). Origin - Ontario, Canada.

THE DISC: (2005) 11 songs clocking in at approximately 40 minutes. Included with the disc is a 14-page booklet containing song titles/credits, song lyrics, one band photo, and thank you's. Label - Tooth & Nail Records.

COMMENTS: The local hard rock radio station was playing "Move" and "Hit The Floor". The songs were catchy and I decided to make the purchase. More times than not, the melodies grab me first, and then I listen to the words. Those new to Thousand Foot Crutch (TFC) might not notice the "Christian Rock" moniker attached to the band. I certainly didn't on my first few listens. But then I noticed the lyrics touched on spirituality, truth, redemption, and that general theme of looking to the sky for answers - but in a low key way - none of the songs come off sermonic. I do not have any of TFC's earlier release(s), but from what I've read, this "Art Of Breaking" is a departure of sorts... less nu-metal/rap/screamo, and more mainstream rock (I'd have to hear more of the earlier material to pass judgment). With that being said, I like this album a ton. If it's a new direction for the band... it works for me. You've heard the sound before - the formula is familiar (Switchfoot, Hoobastank, Breaking Benjamin, Pillar, Stereomud, etc) - but it works because the melodies are hard, crunchy and most importantly catchy. The lyrics have a message, but they're never preachy. "The Art Of Breaking" reached #67 on Billboard's Top 200 albums for 2005 (with the song "Move" reaching mainstream rock's #16). Other singles released are the opener "Absolute", "Stranger", the rocker "Hit The Floor", and the album closer - the uplifting ballad "Breathe You In". Six of the eleven tracks made it to the Top 15 on the Christian Rock chart. TFC and "The Art Of Breaking" also won best rock album, best group, best artist at the 2005 CGMA Covenant (Canadian Gospel Music Awards)... though there's nothing "Gospel" about the album. Maybe in lyric, but certainly not in music - this is a ROCK album. Highlights for me are the harder tracks - "Hurt", "Move", "Hit The Floor" and "Hand Grenade" (though the lyrics are a question mark on this last track). You hear McNevan really cut loose with a ripping guitar solo on "Hand Grenade" - I truly wish there was more of this creativity. The final cut, "Breathe You In", is the lone ballad and it's a great way to close the album. I typically gravitate away from Christian bands (because some are excessively moralizing... and I believe religion is a very personal thing)... but this album doesn't come off that way. Nothing terribly original here from Thousand Foot Crutch, but overall the songs rock and the band definitely has something to say (4 stars).

  2. Wonderful album. If you like music, you have to get it. It's just that good.

  3. I bought this CD a few years ago and I still LOVE it. None of my friends had heard of TFK but once they heard this CD they loved the band too. It's edgy and dynamic and it makes you want to get up and move. Hurt is one of my favorite songs and it ads that slow song element to the mix. All of the songs are catchy and well done. I highly recommend buying this one!

  4. What i was missing waiting to get this cd. I should've bought it earlier wasnt sure about it. But after listening to Art of Breaking i like the way it turned out and yes it has a different feel than TFKs previous efforts. Its not a bad thing by any means though. Each track jumps into after the next still have the sound, singing and lyrics that have given TFK a firm fanbase and will continue to do that with this release. I enjoyed:

    Stranger
    Hurt
    Hit The Floor
    Go
    Move

It has a different flow than what they've done in the past but it still keeps their original feel and gets you amped all the same. The Art of Breaking by TFK is a step above some of the others out there.

  5. Ok. QUALITY. TFK has dished out a very high quality record with a great variety of songs, the guitar and drums and vocals are all crisp and clean, and the music has a very high energy to it. MESSAGE. A little interesting actually. Upon reading the lyrics one would be certain that TFK is pleading for release from themselves on nearly every song.
Absolute is about needing truth because we as a race have nothing left to lose... true, but interestingly put.

Slow Bleed is about returning to Christ after mentally returning to human thinking, definately a good song for someone needing to straighten things out, although it would have been a little more meaningful with a bit more positive thinking. Oh well.

The Art of Breaking tends to sound a bit like a lament. Almost like the band has lost a good friend to poor perspective... although this song can also be interpreted as God crying out to his creation.

Stranger is yet another cry for something more out of life than human ways and thinking (this also could have benefited from another hint of positive spiritual meaning... but once again is a good rock song.)

Hurt. Excellent! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful song. Best song on the album.

Hand Gernade... um, don't get it. Sounds like they wrote it because the name sounded cool, and it really really does, this is a pretty slick sounding rock song.

Move. Now here is a song that has awesome meaning and a really good sound. Basically this song is the modern rock version of REDEEM THE TIME! "Let's make that noise and move!" (P.S. Yet another you have too read into a bit, but it's worth the extra mile.)

Hit The Floor. A bit weird, still sounds cool though.

    Go. Good message, good sound.

Make Me A Believer. Once again, good sound good message.

Breathe You In. Explicity and whole heartedly Christian. Just listen to it.

    OVERALL
TFK has released a great rock album with several songs that pull it above the mainstream. (Although I would love it if their next record had more spiritual meaning and a bit less poetic lamenting. At least it's only downside is it's over poeticism and not it's depressing subject matter. So in the words of Move "let's make that noise!"
